THE LAY OF LETHIAN

PART I

"TWO FATES ENTWINED..."

Oh, listen to this tale of old!

In times passed by in timeless tide,

In ancient days as it is told

Ere world entranced in evil´s night

There was a maiden fair who´d sing

Amidst the rais of moon and sun.

The daugther of an Elven king

Ere rivers changed their float and run.

In forests old amidst the trees

The flowers blossomed by her feet

In times gone by, ere soundring seas

had come; their currents yet to meet.

Her beauty was of timeless grace,

her hair like shadows in the dark,

her lovely smile, her slender pace

and when she sang the world would hark.

The winds would listen to her word.

No maid has ever been so fair.

And after her noone has heard

Again of one who was like her.

She danced amidst the Elven trees

her father was an Elven lord.

But lo! Just like the soundring seas

Death took her which noone had thought.

Her fate was mingled: Elf and Man.

She wandered far, her spirit fair

has left our realms, left Elf´dom when

she passed away. She was aware.

Alas! Her spirit won´t behold

another life in wisdom´s care.

She´s gone as tell all stories old

Not to return. Oh maiden fair!

Tinúviel, Tinúviel,

your chosen name, your chosen fate.

For this is what the stories tell:

She fell in love and once she laid

her heart into a human´s hands

who stumbled through the forest when

She woke the spring in wintry lands

And freed from snow each hill and den.

He´d travelled far, his weary heart

Was black with sadness, sorrow, fear;

His kinsmen slain, soul torn apart

He wandered and once met her here

amidsts the leaves of Elvendom

enchanted by a mighty spell,

reached Doriath, Lúthien´s home,

but how it happened none can tell.

A son of Men still young but lost.

His heart deserted, full of grief

Cast down his face, too high the cost.

Oh! But all human life is brief!

Still, fate has tidings of its own,

It will not heed the rules of old

and though the Elfking´s scorn had grown

Beren and Luthien´s fate´s foretold.

She gave her hand in his and smiled,

they fell in love in times gone by.

A human and an Elven child..

It came to pass, noone knows why.
