Lorelai POV
"I don't know why you insist on doing this, you could get hurt!"
I ignored Luke in favour of pinning the Christmas decorations in the ceiling. I was balancing on the step ladder, something Luke hated since he could do this without the step ladder.
"You know that I hate anyone else doing the Christmas decorations, you do it all wrong."
"This is our fifth Christmas together, and between the holes in the ceiling and the fact you do it the exact same every year, it's almost impossible for me to get it wrong. And also, you've never let me try."
"I don't do it the exact same every year!" I defended, "The Christmas tree always looks different."
He rolled his eyes, "Every other decoration is the same and you know it."
I stuck my tongue out at him, "You'll still do it wrong."
He huffed, crossing his arms and glaring at me. Luckily, Jess came downstairs before he could say anything else, "Is Rory in her room?"
"Should be," I said, getting down from the step-ladder to move it. He knocked on her door and while I didn't quite hear what she said, I heard Jess' response, "Last time I checked, I was your cousin, not your mother. But we could get a DNA test if you'd like."
I looked at Luke, wanting to giggle quite badly. Apparently, that was it for both of us and we ended up giggling away at that.
A few days later, I returned home from work to find Tristan sat on the front porch. His head was down and it looked like he was crying.
"What's wrong?" I asked, unsure of how to approach this.
He looked up at me, startled. He wiped his cheek before answering, "Me and Rory had a fight."
"You're calling her Rory, it must be serious," I said, and then sighed, "It's due to snow today, so you either need to make up with her fast or go home."
"A girl kissed me. Her name is Summer and she's been trying to get my attention for weeks. I kept saying no, and today, she just walked up to me and kissed me. And I didn't push her away."
"Did you kiss her back?" I asked, and he shrugged.
"I think so... My whole mind went blank and I think I acted on instinct and Rory saw," He sighed, "I love her, Lorelai, and I'd never purposely do anything to hurt her, but I have never felt this way about a girl before and I have no idea how to fix it."
"A good start would be getting in your car so you don't freeze to death," I said softly, "I won't talk to her for you, nor will I play piggy in the middle, but I will try to get her to talk to you. No promises."
He nodded and stood up, walking to his car, "Will you at least tell her that I have no intention of leaving until she comes out to speak to me?"
I rolled my eyes but agreed. I watched as he got into his car and then let myself into the house, "Rory?"
"She's really upset," Luke muttered as he walked towards me, "Jess is working at the diner so I could keep an eye on her until you were home. Is he still out there? Because it's taking all of my self-restraint to not go out there and kill him."
"I made him get in his car since it's going to snow in a few hours, but yes. And he has no intention of leaving until she speaks to him, which means he might sleep out there tonight and there's no way I'm letting that happen," I was rambling, "Do you know what happened?"
"Rory was all jumbled up, so I'm not 100% certain but she said she was at her locker with Tristan when some girl came up to him and, I don't know, kissed him. She said she didn't quite have a problem with that since she just randomly did it, but apparently, he didn't stop it and he kissed her back. And then Rory stormed off and called me to come and get her since Tristan was supposed to drive her home."
"At least they've got the same story," I muttered, and Luke looked confused, "He filled me in when I got to him but I wanted to get her story first before I made a judgement on it."
"And?" He asked, clearly wanting to know.
"I think it may have been an instinct thing; have you ever been kissed out of nowhere and just responded without even thinking about it?" I asked and he nodded, a look of realisation on his face, "Now they just need to communicate."
"Good luck with that. I'm going back to the diner, call me if you need me," He said, kissing my cheek and leaving. I looked out the window as he left, and I had to stifle a chuckle as Tristan sunk down in his seat as Luke walked past.
"Mommy?"
I looked up to see Rory stood there; she had a spoon in her hand and a large tub of ice cream in the other, half eaten. She had changed out of her uniform and into a pair of jeans and her own plaid top for once. Her hair was up in a ponytail and I could tell that she had been crying.
"It's going to snow soon," I told her, "Good things happen when it snows."
She nodded, "Yeah. I know."
She didn't sound convinced, but I let it slide, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"How much do you know?" She asked.
"I got the whole thing out of Tristan before I even got in here; he was crying on the porch steps, with actual tears. And then your father basically gave me the same story, so I have a pretty good idea about what happened. But I don't think it's my place to decide how you should feel," I told her.
"I think I may have overreacted, but..." She paused, "Before me, he had a new girl every day. What if... what if he's been doing that behind my back and one of them forgot it was supposed to be secret?"
I didn't say it, but I knew he didn't have time for that - Rory had him wrapped around her little finger and she didn't even know it.
"Do you think that's what happened?" I asked and she shrugged.
"I don't know... What do you think?" She asked and I inwardly sighed.
"I think you need to talk to him," I said, "If you think he's lying, he probably is. If you think he's telling the truth, believe him. Trust your gut. But you should talk to him."
She nodded, "How long until it snows?"
I walked over to the window, opened it and breathed in the air, "30 minutes."
"I'm going to make him a hot chocolate, he must be freezing," She said, going back into the kitchen, "Do you want one?"
"Always," I told her with a laugh.
Once the hot chocolates were made, she disappeared outside to talk to Tristan and I sat at the window, enjoying the air. And just as the first flakes fell, I spotted them kissing.
Good things happen when it snows.
AN: I think this is a cute chapter, and it's definitely light-hearted compared to most of my other chapters, but I hope you enjoyed it.
