"James?" Lily poked him after he had been staring at her for a solid three minutes with the same slightly wide eyes and dumbstruck open mouth. Oh God, they really couldn't do this now. She glanced at the door nervously as though expecting his entire family to barge the door down.
"Mm?"
"Are you in there?"
"Mmhmm."
"Can you form an actual word?"
"Yes."
Lily didn't know whether to laugh or just let her anxiety smite her on the spot.
"When?" he asked hoarsely.
"You know, I've been thinking about that and I think it was Sirius' birthday," she said and then plowed on before he could say anything. "Remember? We were both stupid drunk and we left and went like four rounds which is ridiculous, I mean, we were drunk drunk. No one should have enough stamina to go four rounds when you're that-"
"Five actually," James murmured, his hand running through his hair. Good or bad sign? She was hopeless to know. His face was, at this moment, as unreadable as the Rosetta Stone. "But I didn't mean that. I meant, when did you find out?"
"Oh, about three minutes before you beeped outside my flat. I vomited and then Marlene was shoving a test at me and turning taps on and I peed on the stupid thing and Mary told me I was pregnant. Two lines," Lily breathed out wearily. "Two lines. Pregnant."
"Two lines," he breathed out and there went his hand through that hair of his again. "That's why you were off today."
"Yeah," she agreed quietly.
She watched him. He was quiet. His hand ran through his hair. Once. Twice. Three times. Then he crossed his arms. His face deigning to betray whatever was going on inside that head of his and it was frustrating. She just wanted to know either way. Was he in or out? He licked his lips. Oh God, this was when the bubble was going to pop. He's going to say he didn't want a baby. He's going to say he didn't want this. He's going to leave her. He's going to accuse her of trapping him or using him for money or-
"If Sirius ever figures out it was his birthday party he'll be insufferable."
"Oh." She blinked owlishly, frozen in place. She hadn't expected that. It was almost … calm.
"Oh," James repeated. "What's 'oh'?"
"I — you're not …" she looked at him. "You seem okay about this."
"Yeah, I mean, you're right about the one-bedder. Totally not going to work now but we'll just keep looking and-"
She shut him up by throwing her arms around him and kissing him. And then she started crying. Figured.
"Lily-?" he said alarmed, cupping her face. "Hey, it's going to be okay. Do you-" his face drew into a deep frown, "do you not want it?"
She cried harder.
"Because I thought you liked kids and you'd want— but if you don't I — we can talk about it."
More tears.
"Lily," James begged desperately. "Talk to me!"
"It's just I wasn't sure — I mean you said all babies look like aliens and why would you want an alien? And I've just been panicking about this all day and I didn't know how you were going to react and I was just panicking like a lot, a lot — and I almost cancelled on today. I told the girls to tell you I had contracted malaria because you know we — we've only been together for three months and this — this is way too fast and definitely not in the plan because, you know, our plan was a one-bedder in Kensington and I didn't know if you would want this because, you know, you travel a lot for work and I can't even speak Greek!" Oh, she was on a total ramble spiral now. "And your parents are so lovely and now we're doing this in the bathroom and this is definitely not the way I imagined telling you and I didn't want you to think I was using you for money or-or trapping you or something and then I took a sip of wine and I just felt like a terrible person, because I forgot! And what kind of mother forgets? And then there's the fact that I'm going to be a mother and that just doesn't seem real like, me and mother in the same sentence I — I mean, your mother is fantastic! She cooks and dotes and - and speaks Greek and cooks and I don't and—
He clamped his hand over her mouth. Jesus, finally! What took him so long to do that?
"There's a lot to unpack there," he sighed and she nodded. "If I lift my hand are you going to keep word vomiting at me?"
She shook her head and he lifted his hand. She glanced down at the floor.
"Lil," he said softly, his hand at her chin, guiding her face up. "Did you really think malaria would keep me away?"
"I guess not," she huffed out a laugh, her shoulders sagging as she stared at him. Trying to gouge what he was feeling and thinking. If he wanted to bail. If this was too much for him.
"We're having a baby."
Her eyes welled again because all she'd thought about all day was how she was pregnant not how they were having a baby. They were having a baby.
"You don't want this," Lily stated.
"When did I ever say that?" he frowned.
"You said babies don't live up to the hype and they look like aliens."
"True but our kid will live up to the hype because it'll be fifty/fifty of the two coolest people I know and this is our little alien," he said more affection filling his voice than Lily could have hoped for. "I wouldn't care if it came out half stag like the kid in Sweet Tooth. I'd love it anyways."
"Yeah but you love stags. What if it came out half spider?"
His thumbs traced her tears away before they could track down her cheeks and he stepped closer to her, resting his lips on her forehead.
"Then we'd teach it how to shoot spiderwebs out of its wrists like Spider-Man."
Lily laughed. "Are you really okay about this? Because we haven't been together that long, I mean you even said it to your mum and this isn't something that can be undone. This is forever and it's a baby and you were right. It's going to cry and poop and spit up and one day it'll be a bitchy teenager who hates us and there's a lot to think about and I just don't-"
"Please don't word vomit at me again," James pleaded and Lily closed her mouth. "I know this wasn't a part of the plan and maybe if we were younger I'd be more worried but, well, we're twenty-five — twenty-six by the time the baby comes as I doubt this is like that pregnancy from Twilight where the kid was born in like a month-"
"Not unless you failed to tell me you're a vampire of the non-sparkling variety."
"Oh, I am of the sparkling kind. I just use really good sunscreen."
Lily choked on a laugh and leaned her head against his chest, saying his name softly.
"We've got time to figure everything out," he promised, his hands running up and down her sides soothingly. "And we're both done with school and have careers so I'm not worried about this baby ruining my life or whatever other horrors you've been imagining in your head all day."
"Mostly your comments that you don't like babies and don't want them."
"I never said I don't want them."
"You said to your mum-"
"Because we haven't talked about kids yet because we've only been dating three months and my mother bringing up children to my girlfriend of three months is ridiculous not to mention mortifying. I mean, was she trying to get you to run for the hills? There's generally an order to these things, you know? Move-in, marriage, then kids. It's a concept my mother struggles to grasp in her eagerness for grandchildren to spoil."
"Okay, but right now, do you want this?"
"Hey, stop that. Stop trying to convince yourself that I'm going to bail on you. I'm not going to bail on you or our kid and honestly it's kind of insulting that you think I would."
She let her shoulders slump at that because he was right. It was insulting.
"Unless," he considered her, "unless this is your way of saying you don't want this?"
"No," she cupped his face, "no, I want this. I'm scared as hell about it but I want this."
"Makes two of us," James leaned his forehead against hers, "and we're in this together. I knew from the second you showed up backstage in Mykonos that you're everything, Lily. You are everything to me and you always will be and I don't need more time with you to know that I want to spend my whole damn life with you. With kids, without. Now or later. I don't care as long as it's us."
She smiled through a sob at that and wrapped her arms tight around him, her head resting in the crook of his neck. He hugged her just as tightly.
"James," Lily whimpered, as he pulled back to cup her face again.
"One last thing…"
Bang. Bang. Bang!
"Oi, you two better not be — you know — in your parents bathroom!" Sirius hissed through the door. "You'd think the two of you could keep it in your pants for a few hours."
"Fuck off, Sirius!" James ordered. His gaze hadn't left hers.
"What are you doing in there? Your parents have already cleared the entire table and dessert is being served and, Lily, do you like Greek coffee?"
"Seriously, mate, fuck off," James said again. "We'll be out in a few. Just tell mum I'm giving Lily a tour or something."
"Yeah, a tour of your dick," they heard him grumble through the door.
"Sirius," James groaned as Lily bit back a laugh, hiding her face in his chest.
"All right, all right."
"Oh, and tell mum no coffee for Lily. She'll have chamomile tea." James looked at Lily. "Pregnant women can't drink coffee, right?"
Lily shrugged hopelessly as they listened to Sirius' footsteps drift away. She had no idea but she thought she'd heard something along those lines somewhere.
"Let's try again," James sighed, pressing his forehead against hers. "The last thing … you will be a fantastic mother. I have no doubt about that. Any child would be so lucky to have you as their mum."
"Oh, James," she sighed. "I love you. I've been such a mess in my head all day about this and then you come in and figure it out and say all those sweet things to me and I just love you. I love you."
"I love you too, Lily. And," he bent down, pressing his hands over her stomach, "I love our little alien." He pressed a kiss to her stomach and she let her hands bury themselves in his hair.
"You're gonna make me start crying again."
He looked up at her with a grin. "No more crying. This is happy. Unexpected but happy."
"Happy," she agreed and then, "do you think our kid will be a heathen like you?"
"Oi!"
"I just need to know if I need to be suspicious of soft drink bottles for the rest of my life."
James considered as he stood again. "Probably. I was pretty mischievous as a kid." A pause. "We should go back out before they send Sirius to fetch us again but there's a lot to talk about, isn't there?"
She smoothed his hair off his forehead. "Yeah," she agreed, "there is but we can talk when we get back." Lily stepped up to the mirror and groaned. "I look like a mess. Is it too late to say 'oodie'?"
James laughed. "I can make up an excuse for us to go if you want."
Lily glanced at him. He really would.
"I'm so sorry, James."
"What are you sorry for?"
"Today was supposed to be about meeting your parents, not all of this and now I'm a mess and they're going to think I'm some crazy woman who cries in bathrooms-"
"Hey, none of that." He came up behind her, slipping his hands around her front, his chin resting on her shoulder. "Besides, think of what a good story this'll be for the little alien one day."
Lily laughed at that because she could see it. Them, with his wonderfully, loud and delightful family, sitting around the dining table with James dramatically telling everyone how he found out she was pregnant. Sirius, with a messy haired toddler on his knee, interrupting with "'course I banged at the door 'cause I thought they were, you know, little did I know it was the start of my godfather journey" because Lily didn't even doubt he would snag the role.
Lily twisted her head to kiss him and then promptly shoved him away as she tried to salvage her face. James helped her, handing her tissues and wetting a towel for her as she attempted to clean away the black smudges around her eyes. Back in the dining room, it was still obvious that something had happened to Lily so they spun some bullshit about soap getting in her eye when she was washing her hands and the adults bought it even if Sirius didn't.
Lily was introduced to loukamedes as more stories were told around the table and Euphemia even brought out a photo album but let James flick through it with Lily. He blushed furiously at a photo of him laying on his tummy with his head propped up on his elbows as two-year-old James smiled at the camera dressed in a pair of purple fairy wings.
"You were such a cute baby," Lily sighed affectionately. "What happened?"
"Something right if I got you to follow me across Europe." He pressed a kiss to her temple as she laughed.
"Hey, I just needed to return your shirt."
"Which you still have."
Lily grinned at that. She'd taken to wearing it around the flat and maybe she'd feel more guilty for stealing his shirt if it weren't for the sly smirk on his face every time he came around and she was wearing it. He was never getting it back.
They flicked to the next page and a photo of twelve year old James and Sirius goaded on the next round of family story time: The Time James and Sirius Dressed As Girls. Lily laughed her way through the story and the accompanying photos of James and Sirius posing up a storm.
When the afternoon dwindled down, James called it and they started to leave though leaving wasn't as simple as it sounded. There were the goodbyes in the living room which lasted fifteen minutes and Euphemia palmed off no less than four tupperware containers of varying sizes each filled with leftovers from lunch and Euphemia made sure to pass on tips on how to reheat them so they tasted like it just came out of the oven. They made progress to the large foyer where there were more goodbyes and about twenty minutes was spent there until they actually got out of the door.
"You two gonna tell me what happened in that bathroom?" Sirius asked as they stood at their car and his motorbike, Lily's arms still laden with the tupperware containers.
"Don't know what you're talking about," James said, winking at Lily.
"Yeah, Sirius, I got soap in my eye," Lily grinned.
"Fine, don't tell me. Not even sure I want to know," he eyed them suspiciously. "I'll see you at home."
"Actually, we're not coming back straight away."
Sirius raised a brow as he swung his leg over his bike. "Something is definitely going on with you two … don't tell me you're having your first fight or something? Because, you know, Micky, there's no refund policy on him. You can't give him back now. I already have plans for his bedroom."
Lily snorted. "Please, you'll be weeping with separation anxiety a week after he's moved out."
"You just don't understand our bond," Sirius sighed dramatically before sticking his helmet on. "I'll see you later then?"
Lily glanced at James who nodded. "Yeah, I'll probably stay at yours tonight. Any chance for your famous bacon and egg rolls in the morning?"
"Only if you're not loud."
With that he kicked off and sped away and James and Lily followed suit. They ended up going through a Macca's drive through for ice cream and then they parked in the carpark and—
"So we should probably get a — what are baby doctors called again?" James asked.
"Obstetrician," Lily offered.
"Right, we should probably get one of those."
"Probably." How did one even find an obstetrician? Lily glanced at James. His face was deep in thought. He'd acted normal in front of his parents and Sirius but now that it was just the two of them … it seemed to be sinking in that they were going to be parents.
"And we should probably start looking into two or three bedroom flats. Or should we maybe be considering something with a backyard?"
"I don't know," Lily shrugged, her own frown crossing her face. "Can we afford a house?"
Silence lulled again until James thought of his next question.
"Should we be thinking about like maternity leave and stuff or is it too early?"
"I, uh, I don't know. I can't even remember what my firm's maternity policy is. Hestia had a baby when I first started there and I think she took six months off but I have no idea how much of that was paid. But I think I'm more worried about your work," Lily admitted.
"It's a lot of travel," James sighed.
"Yeah and, obviously we don't know the exact due date yet but based on my cycles and when I think we uh, made the little alien, I think it'll be due around early-August."
James tapped his finger against his leg. "So maybe Sirius and I skip a season."
"As much as I would love and appreciate that … you can't commit to that without speaking to Sirius."
"Are we … when should we tell everyone?"
"I — well, Marlene and Mary know because they're the ones who forced me to take a test but, um, maybe we should wait until at least our first appointment with a doctor? It's still really early."
"Yeah," James nodded. "I think that's fair."
"But I — you should tell Sirius. He's your brother and it's only fair you have someone to talk to about this."
"Only if you're sure."
They talked about a lot. Finances for the flat since they'd obviously have to buy a bigger one than they originally planned. If the baby would be Potter, Evans, or Evans-Potter. When they should tell their families — an anxiety inducing thought for Lily since Petunia didn't even know Lily had a boyfriend. They talked through what type of leave Lily would want from work once the baby came — James assuring her that he could support financially for as long as she needed for whatever her work wouldn't cover. They discussed childcare options for when Lily was back at work. They discussed their health insurances. They discussed what religion the baby would be since James was Greek Orthodox and Lily was Anglican. James advised that his parents would probably set up a sizeable trust fund for the baby as soon as they found out which Lily said was unnecessary.
"Of course it's unnecessary, but they'll do it anyways. Do you know how long mum's been harassing me for about giving them a grandchild?"
Eventually, they steered away from the more serious conversations and Lily told him the full story that was her mess of a morning. They laughed about what their friends reactions would be. Lily fretted over telling Petunia. They wondered who the baby would look more like — Lily arguing that James' darker genes would smash her ginger genes to kingdom come. They wondered if the baby would be a boy or a girl. They googled what their due date would be — August 5th according to one site.
James expressed that he'd want to do yearly family trips to Greece like his parents did when he was growing up. Lily said family coordinated halloween costumes would be a must every year and warned him she'd probably buy them all matching pyjama sets and Christmas sweaters.
"I'm cheesy like that," she shrugged and he kissed her knuckles with a grin.
"Good thing, I like cheesy."
"James?"
"Hmm?"
"Are we really doing this?"
"Slept together on the first date. Our second date was a trip to Tokyo. Said 'I love you' three weeks in. Two months in, we decided to buy a place together. And now, at three months, we're having a baby. Seems like our thing is fast or not at all." He leaned across the console, eyes burning into hers, and pressed a kiss to her lips. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
"Mm," Lily hummed, "we just have to survive dinner with my sister and her husband first."
The next morning she was woken with a burst of noise. She didn't know what to pay attention to more: the rapid knocking coming from the wall or the phone blaring. Was she late for work? Shit. She stirred and then … no. No, it was a Sunday. She relaxed back against the mattress. Whose bloody phone was it then?
"Fucking hell! It's six thirty in the fucking morning on a Sunday!" came Sirius' pissed off voice through the wall, his fist still knocking against it.
"Hmph," James pulled a pillow over his head, "who's calling you?"
Who was calling h-? Oh. Oh! It was her phone. Her hand slammed against the bedside table, blindly searching until her fingers curled around it. She pulled it to her — ripping the charger out of the wall in the process — and blinked bleary eyed at her screen. 'Petunia' was displayed on the screen and Lily groaned before swiping across.
"'Ello?"
"Hello, Lily," Petunia greeted. "I hope I didn't wake you."
"It's six thirty on a Sunday, Tuney. You woke the whole bloody building," Lily grumbled, rubbing sleep out of her eyes.
"Well, I was just thinking about where we should go for dinner and wanted to run a few past you seeing as I don't know what type of food your new boyfriend likes."
"He's a garbage bin. He'll eat anything that's classified as food." James kicked her leg at that one.
"Yes, well, we're also going to have to book and with only a week's notice I thought the sooner the better."
Petunia might've had a point there.
"Where did you have in mind?"
Lily shuffled out of bed to leave James in peace to continue sleeping, slipped on his uggs and robe before heading into the living room. She grabbed a packet of biscuits — well, cookies but biscuits sounded healthier — and sat at the kitchen bench, munching as she listened to Petunia list various pros and cons of her preferred restaurants.
"… I did like the food at Alpha but last time we went there they seated us next to the kitchens and it was incredibly noisy…"
"…Marcelleria has lovely steaks but their chips aren't the best and they're always so busy — took us almost forty minutes to get our food last time…"
"…what about Andiamo? I've heard great things about their pasta dishes but I'm not sure if it's fancy enough — we are celebrating after all…"
And on and on it went until thirty-three minutes later they had settled on a restaurant called Reign in Soho. Petunia liked the menu and the aesthetic — which was apparently a very important factor when deciding where to eat — and they had a booking available. Lily hung up the phone with an empty biscuit packet in front of her and eyes that still begged for sleep.
She crawled back into bed and James immediately wrapped himself around her. She revelled in his warmth, pressing her face into his neck and she could still smell the faint scent of his cologne. She closed her eyes.
"You need more biscuits."
"Everything okay with your sister?" he mumbled.
"Yes except she is insane. She talked my ear off about restaurants for over half an hour."
"Sleep'll make it better."
"Mmhmm," she agreed, her eyes already closed.
When they opened again at a reasonable time of nine thirty it was to the smell of bacon and eggs wafting in from the kitchen.
"God, I love Sirius," she declared, her eyes still closed.
"As the father of your child, not exactly what I want to hear in the morning, love."
"Oh."
"There's that world again," he murmured, drawing his thumb across her forehead. She poked an eye open to see him staring at her intently. The right side of his face had a red pillow mark on it and his hair was as unruly as ever, sticking up in odd spots but he'd already put his glasses on. She scrunched her face up at him before opening her eyes.
"I guess I forgot just now," she whispered, her hand moving to run over her tummy where a whole, tiny little human was growing inside of her. It still sounded strange. Pregnant. She was pregnant. Definitely didn't sound right. His hand joined hers, his fingers overlapping her own and Lily smiled softly. This was the first time they held their baby together.
"And?"
"And…" Lily thought about it for a moment, "this morning's Lily is taking it a lot better than yesterday's Lily."
James smiled and leaned down to press a kiss to her lips.
"No doubt thanks to me being the most supportive and loving boyfriend."
"Or the fact that I haven't thrown up," Lily sighed happily. She ran her hand into his hair. "What's on the agenda for today?"
James shrugged. "Should we look into doctors today? I just, we should get you checked out and make sure everything is okay and find out when our little alien is arriving and, you know, see if the throwing up is normal and if you can actually drink coffee and-"
"And ask if I can get pregnant twice if we continue to have sex?" Lily mocked him with a snigger and James buried his face into her neck.
"Yeah, okay, laugh at the concerned boyfriend."
"Awe, it's sweet really but, honey, I'm vomiting because I'm pregnant and it is normal. It's even got a name and everything: morning sickness. And the coffee thing has got to be Google-able."
James propped his head up to look at her. "You're going to trust Google with the health of my child?"
"Our," she corrected immediately.
"Ok, so you're going to trust Google with the health of our child?"
"Don't look at me like that, I'll get at least three reputable sources before I make any hard and fast decisions."
"Five," James bartered.
"You are such a mother hen," Lily sighed affectionately, her fingers playing with his hair. "I could always ask Petunia if she's allowed to drink coffee. I'm sure she'll have taken very detailed notes from whatever doctor appointments she's already had."
"I may never get you back."
"Back to Google it is."
"Oi, Potter, get the missus! Breakfast is ready!"
"Must he always interrupt us?" Lily sighed.
"It's in his nature. At least this time there's food."
She held onto him as he tried to move and he stilled under her touch.
"I, just," Lily didn't even know what she wanted to say so instead she sat up and crawled onto his lap, cupping his face.
"What is it?" he whispered, hands running soothingly up her sides and back.
"I know I was a bit of a mess yesterday," she said softly, "and you said really, really sweet things to me and I just, I want you to know that I love you and if I had to have an oops baby with anyone I'm glad it's with you because spontaneous has always worked for us and you …" she smiled, "you're my favourite person — only don't tell the girls that — and I have no doubt you're going to be the best dad and I love you."
"I think you already said that last one," he grinned.
"Because it's true." She leaned her forehead on his. "I think I've loved you ever since that first night and when you came to Paris … I saw this. Me getting to keep you. You getting to keep me. Forever and ever."
"Forever and ever," James kissed her deeply, his grip tightening on her hips. "I love you, Lils, so, so much."
She wrapped her arms around him and they sat on the bed, holding each other for a moment before Lily mumbled, "we should probably go out before he bursts in here."
James didn't need telling twice. They'd already pushed their luck so they rugged up — Lily back in James' robe and uggs and James in an old hoodie and socks. Sirius already had plates out with their food on it and Lily groaned in happiness.
"We gotta bring you on as our Sunday breakfast cook when we move out," Lily groaned, wondering how she would live without his egg and bacon rolls once she no longer had easy access to it.
"Pretty shit cook," James quipped, "this is literally the only thing he can cook decently."
"Oi, I can cook toast."
"You don't cook toast, you toast toast therefore not cooking."
"Look, once you've mastered bacon and eggs what's the point of learning anything else? It works for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's an all rounder."
"You're going to starve when I move out," James sighed with a shake of his head before he bit into the bacon and egg roll. "But Lily may have a point in hiring you on as our breakfast cook."
"You gotta tell us what you do to make it taste this good," Lily begged for the hundredth time.
"That is Sirius Black level classified. But, Mickey, tell us, on a scale of one to ten how much did the family spook you?" Sirius grinned.
"Not at all. Your family is wonderful."
"You're just too polite to say they're loud and nosy and dramatic," James accused.
"You just listed all the things I love about you."
"Mate, I think you just got roasted," Sirius cackled and James nudged Lily's arm as she shot a food filled grin at him.
"No, but seriously, I love your parents and your uncles and your godmother. They were all fantastic. Though, I think the next meeting will go better if you start teaching me some Greek."
"Seriously?" James raised a brow. "You'd really want to learn?"
"Absolutely! I've always wanted to learn a different language and this is the perfect opportunity because I have a real life Duolingo owl in the shape of my boyfriend and his degenerate best mate."
"Three minutes ago you wanted to hire me as your cook and now I'm a degenerate," he huffed.
"You know I only love you for these bacon and egg rolls," Lily quipped.
"Hurt, Evans, absolutely hurt."
"What's 'I don't care' in Greek?"
James laughed and supplied, "den me noiazei."
Lily attempted to copy what James said but-
"I don't know if I can sit through her butchering Greek," Sirius stated.
"Skase," James said.
"What's that?"
"'Shut up'," James supplied and Lily laughed and repeated it.
"Oh, sure, she gets that one," Sirius rolled his eyes as his phone started ringing. He excused himself as he went to answer it and Lily swivelled to face James.
"I think we should tell him."
"Now?" he spluttered, his eyebrows flying to his hair line.
"Yes. I mean, why not?"
"I — I just thought we should at least wait until we've seen a doctor. Plus there's no guarantee he'd keep mum about this to my parents and if my parents find out, the whole family will know by sundown."
"It's really not a big deal if they tell your uncles and nouna," Lily tried.
"Oh, you don't understand," James shook his head. "My uncles and nouna are just the start of it. From my uncles it'll get to my yiayia — grandmother — in Greece and she'll tell my mum's sister, Thia Nektaria who'll tell her kids, my cousins who live in London too now and then from there my second cousins will probably find out and that's not even getting into family friends because Lilika will tell her kids who'll pass it on to others and my mum would likely put out a company wide notice that she's going to be a grandmother."
"For an only child you have a lot of family," Lily stated.
"Well, what's your family like?"
"Petunia. Grandad from my mum's side lives in Ireland and that's about it. Both my parents were only child's."
"That's," James struggled for a moment, "huh."
"Bloody hell, that was Kerrie on the phone," Sirius drummed his hands against the counter. "Guess what?"
"What?" James asked.
"We got it!"
"Got what?"
"Fuck's sake, do you even listen when I talk?" Sirius huffed. "Tomorrowland. We got the spot!"
James stood. "What? Are you serious?"
"Would I joke about that? Of course I'm serious! We're playing at Tomorrowland!"
"You got a set at Tomorrowland!" Lily grinned, laughing. "Holy shit! I'm definitely coming to that one! Oh, god, I gotta text Marls and Mary, they'll kill me if we don't all organise to go! Would Remus and Pete come too? We should start a group chat! There's no way we can miss you guys playing at Tomorrowland!"
"That's — Tomorrowland," James ran a hand through his hair, a grin already spreading across his face. Lily already had her chat open with Mary and Marlene. "Holy shit! That's huge!"
"Fuck yeah it is! Kerrie wants to bring forward the release for the next single by a month to get us some hype just before the festival. She's going to work on getting Dua and her team on board."
"When is it?" Lily asked. "The girls are asking."
"We're booked for the second run which is July 29th to the 31st," Sirius told them and Lily's stomach dropped. "We're playing on the second day. Fuck, I'm buzzing. This is amazing!"
"End of July," James frowned, looking at Lily. She'd be ready to pop. There's no way she'd be able to fly to Belgium and go to a festival to see him. Not to mention how close it would be cutting it to the actual due date — which they still didn't know yet but according to an online due date calculator Lily would be due around August 5th.
Sirius didn't seem to notice the dip in their expressions and enthusiasm. "All right, I'm gonna go for my run and then I'm going to call Kerrie back and see if we can get some studio time for rehearsals. Fuck, I'm so pumped right now!"
