(A/N: I don't own this wonderful franchise and the beautiful vault track of, "The Very First Night" from Red album Taylor's version. Only this fic of mine on this site. For the sake of this fic and since this is an AU anyway, Emma doesn't have any romantic feelings towards Draken and was simply one of his college friends along with Mikey and the others. This is the third part of my short collection series called, "Fire in my Heart." Hoping that you enjoy this one shot Doramitsu of mine as much as I did. Lastly, I found out that one of my fics, "Bye Bye Baby" has been posted by another person on a different account without my knowledge and consent. This is the second time that this has happened to me and if warning will not suffice then you leave me with no choice but to report you. Kindly refrain from posting our fanfictions on another account and site without the author's knowledge as aside from it's a copyright infringement, it is simply disrespectful to us, the authors, who spent an amount of time writing and editing their own fanfictions in a certain fandom).
The Very First Night
By: Aztec999
I wish I could fly
I'd pick you up and we'd go back in time
I'd write this in the sky
I miss you like it was the very first night
The party was in full swing when Mitsuya arrived at the venue of the class reunion of their alma mater. Boisterous crowd and glittering lights almost overwhelmed his senses, but he still walked gracefully around, scanning the crowd.
His previous short, ivory locks had grown after several years of graduating from the university and beginning his lucrative career in the field of fashion as a well-known designer.
"Taka-chan! Over here!" A familiar voice called over him and he turned around and spotted Hakkai, waving excitedly at him with a bright smile on his face. His blue locks glistened under the shimmering lights of the mirrorball. From being an awkward and lanky individual during their school years, he'd grown into a pleasant looking man with a lean frame that made him land as a cover model in several magazines and brands of clothing line. A beautiful late bloomer as they say.
"Hey!" Mitsuya waved back smilingly and sauntered towards their direction. Even if Hakkai is taller than him by several inches, he still treated him like his younger brother sometimes just like with Yuzuha who was unsurprisingly with him since the two siblings were mostly inseparable.
"You're looking good I see." Yuzuha's calm voice caught their attention as she gave him a once over and a thumbs up afterward.
"He's a fashion designer Yuzu. Of course, he'd always looks good." Hakkai piped up.
Mtisuya was about to answer back when a boisterous laughter can be heard from the other side of the bar and he glanced at it, his eyes widening briefly upon seeing him.
Of course, it's a reunion party what did he expect?
It was Draken together with Mikey, Baji and Emma conversing and laughing together at the side of the bar.
And Mitsuya could feel his heart speeding up once again upon seeing his breathtaking form.
And so it goes, every weekend, the same party
I never go alone and I don't seem broken-hearted
My friends all say they know everything I'm going through
I drive down different roads but they all lead back to you
"Why am I not surprised about this? I mean this is Mikey we're talking about. He's a reckless idiot when he was young." Draken rolled his eyes playfully which earned a guffaw from Baji and a snicker from Emma.
"Oi Kenchin. You're getting out of hand now. Wanna take it outside?" Mikey glared back without any heat to his words and smirked at him.
"Shut up you shrimp. Big wor—." Draken stopped midsentence when Emma tried to catch his attention and pointed to someone.
"I think someone is happy to see you." She held a teasing glint on her eyes.
Draken followed the direction to where she was pointing at and he caught his breath upon seeing Mitsuya again in the flesh. With a lovely mullet. And in a three-piece dashing suit that fitted well for him and brought out the color of his eyes.
Regardless, if he changed his hairstyle and stance, one thing remained the same: his captivating lavender orbs that doesn't fail to mesmerize and spellbind him every time when he looked at him.
'Cause they don't know about the night in the hotel
They weren't ridin' in the car when we both fell
Didn't read the note on the Polaroid picture
They don't know how much I miss you
Draken was now sporting a black hair but with the same hairstyle. Regardless of what hair color he possessed, it didn't diminish the fact that he could still make his heart skip a beat.
Mauve irises clashed with his obsidian eyes that sent an electrifying current between the two of them.
Not wanting to make a fool of himself by just gaping at him, Mitsuya gave a friendly smile and wave to which Emma returned casually while Mikey and Baji grinned at him.
Draken continued to stare at him until he was elbowed by Mikey with amusement dancing on his eyes. Stifling the blush that threatened to engulfed his face, he waved back at Mitsuya and sent him a simple yet meaningful smile that conveyed a lot to him.
It's like they have a secret communication that only the two of them can understand.
Just like before.
I wish I could fly
I'd pick you up and we'd go back in time
I'd write this in the sky
I miss you like it was the very first night
"Hey." Mitsuya sauntered towards them with his usual signature light yet captivating smile on his face and his gaze lingered on Draken for far too long before it settled towards the whole of them.
"Fuck. You lookin' big shot now Mitsuya. You look like one of those guys from the GQ mags that you put your designer clothes on." Baji whistled appreciatively and offered him his usual cocky grin that showed his notorious fangs.
"It's a class reunion from our alma mater after all. Can't show up sloppy." Mtisuya replied jokingly as he took the available seat on the opposite side of Draken.
"Well, you still looked good regardless of what you wear anyway." Draken commented casually which earned varying reactions from the rest of them: Emma sporting a knowing smile, Mikey a lopsided grin from his face, Baji with that all knowing expression on his face and finally Mitsuya who looked briefly surprised yet pleased and shy upon hearing his words.
Draken belatedly realized his mistake and blunder and opted to drink his shot of tequila instead.
"Oh. Mikey, I remembered that we gotta meet with Hina and Takemichi at the entrance soon once they get here right?" Emma suddenly announced.
"We do?" Mikey looking clueless as ever.
Thankfully, Baji seemed to get her idea and rolled with it.
"Yep. What kind of memory do you have Mikey? You gettin' senile like some old man."
"Oi. Shut up you—."
"Okay! C'mon now guys. We don't need them to be waiting for us." Emma shot Draken and Mitsuya an apologetic smile. "Sorry we'll be leaving you two here for the meantime. We must meet Hina and Takemichi at the entrance. But we'll be back soon!" She added before she quickly pulled Mikey and Baji away who was still bickering behind her.
The pair couldn't even get a word on or even respond as they quickly left them.
"Hello." Mitsuya started simply as if they're seeing each other for the first time ever since Emma and the others left them behind to give them their privacy.
"Hi." Draken returned the gesture with a simple smile painted on his lips. Even though Mitsuya was more accommodating and easygoing between the two of them he guessed that one of the few things that they have in common was that they're both terse in words, preferring to communicate with their actions and silent gestures that only the two of them can understand.
And so it was, we never saw it comin'
Not tryin' to fall in love, but we did like children runnin'
Back then we didn't know we were built to fall apart
We broke the status quo, then we broke each other's hearts
(4 years earlier…)
"I can't believe you fucking did that Taka!" Draken exclaimed laughingly as they walked beside each other at the bridge one night going back to their dorms after attending one of the birthday parties of their classmate in his studio complex.
"Well, he can't get the hint no matter how much I declined politely!" Mitsuya rolled his eyes playfully as he elbowed him.
"So just flat out rejecting the guy did the trick?" Draken wiggled his eyebrows dramatically.
"Yep. Good thing he took it like a champ and handled it as a good sport." Mitsuya snorted as he tried to walk casually even though he was getting tipsy from the several shots of scotch that he'd taken earlier after their game of dares that night.
"Fuck. I almost feel sorry for the guy. Almost." Draken snickered, his words slightly slurred from the mild inebriation that he felt from the effects of alcohol in his system. "But if he can't get the damn hint, I guess there's no other way of telling him but outright. Literally."
"You bet—." Mitsuya stopped midsentence when he accidentally slipped from the pavement and prepared himself for the inevitable fall by closing his eyes only that it didn't.
He felt a pair of robust and sinewy arms enclosing around his lean frame that sent a warmth yet electrifying sensation around his veins that made him open his eyes slowly.
Lavender orbs clashed against his deep, onyx irises.
Mitsuya suddenly found himself being entranced by Draken's ethereal face and intense gaze that bored right through his soul.
No words passed between the two as their bodies moved on its own and closed the distance between the two of them.
And sealing it with a fluttering yet memorable first kiss that leave them breathless and captivated that night.
But don't forget about the night out in L.A.
Danced in the kitchen, chased me down through the hallway
No one knows about the words that we whispered
No one knows how much I miss you
"You submitted that term paper in Calculus that was due earlier?" Draken asked Mitsuya as they walked down the hallways of the university.
"Yeah. Good thing I make it on time though." Mitsuya grinned at him.
"Damn. Why can't we be classmates in Calculus?" Draken bemoaned. "Our own term paper was still due on Wednesday, but I haven't finish it yet." He added sourly.
"Well, I can stop by on your dorm later this day to help you." Mitsuya offered.
"You'll do that? Thought you still have your daily internship at the Dale's boutique after class." Draken replied.
"Nah. Store will be closing today since the owner will be hosting some personal family event. So, I'm free and I'm all yours after class." Mitsuya replied with a playful wink and a joking grin on his face.
Draken knew that he shouldn't look that much deeper in his words, but it sent a wonderful yet dizzying sensation inside his heart that made it beat erratically inside his chest.
"You're damn right. And you better make the help worthwhile." Draken played along and grinned back at him.
They both didn't talk about the electrifying kiss that they shared with each other under the bridge that night since they both thought that it was made in the heat of the moment and in a burst of euphoric sensations under the influence of some alcohol.
How wrong they were.
I wish I could fly
I'd pick you up and we'd go back in time
I'd write this in the sky
I miss you like it was the very first night
Papers were strewn across the desk. Ballpens, smudges of ink and books were scattered haphazardly on the ground.
Mitsuya kissed him reverently as Draken sought an entrance inside his mouth to which he gladly provided at. The long, silky blond locks fell and framed his face gently making the rough exterior of his face softer and captivating.
And Mitsuya couldn't wished for anything other than this breathtaking sight in front of him.
They both didn't know how they ended up in a situation like this when he was focused on helping on Draken on finishing his term paper earlier.
But they both know the invisible pull that they have with one another.
Like a magnet that kept attracting on another when they're near with each other.
Because ever since their first kiss on that night their friendship was never the same. No matter how much they both tried to deny it within themselves.
Mitsuya moaned sweetly inside his mouth as Draken's tongue licked at the sweet crevices and deepest interiors of his mouth. He was unconsciously grinding beneath him when he felt the other's hand palmed him though his pants, feeling his raging hard on.
That made his clouded mind suddenly cleared and his heated body felt cold as if he was doused harshly by a bucket of water.
What the hell was happening?
What were they even doing?
Draken was his best friend yet they're crossing the line beyond that.
He gently pushed him away. "We should finish your term paper. It's due soon right?" Mitsuya stated in a calm voice yet he looked down at the ground, his face flushed and heart beating wildly inside his chest.
A beat of silence passed before Draken finally answered in his usual calm and nonchalant voice.
"Yeah. We should. Sorry about the distraction earlier."
Mitsuya could only nod quietly, not trusting his voice to speak without having it cracking like a shard of shattered glass on the ground.
Take me away, take me away
Take me away to you, to you
Take me away, take me away
Take me away to you, to you
"I got accepted into the House of Versace in Milan as one of their fashion assistants there. They wanted to recruit me after graduation. Our head said that he will arrange the papers for my sponsorship and flight tickets…" Mitsuya trailed off as he carefully watched Draken's face which was casual yet neutral at the same time.
Draken swallowed thickly and forced a smile on his lips.
"That's great Taka. I mean, it's one of your dreams when were still kids right? Good luck on your career out there." Draken wanted to say so many things but in the end, he could only settle for congratulating him since who was he anyway for standing on his way towards his dreams?
"Thanks Ken." Mitsuya strived for some casualness even though he could feel the bile rising from his throat.
I remember the night at the hotel
I was ridin' in the car when we both fell
I'm the one on the phone as you whisper
"Do you know how much I miss you?"
Draken was cleaning one of the motorbikes in the shop when he heard the phone ringing that made him stopped on what he was doing and stood up, striding towards the direction of the phone and answered it.
"Hello?"
Deafening silence only greeted his ears for the next few seconds. That made his brows furrowed and slightly annoyed.
"Hello? Hello? Go bother pranking some—."
"Hi Ken."
The simple words yet the familiar voice that always set his heart in blaze and mind giddy in happiness.
"Taka?"
A soft chuckle resonated at the other end of the line. "Yeah, it's me Ken… Sorry for not being able to get in touch with you these past few months since my work is quite hectic and demanding here in Milan."
"Nah that's fine. I'm glad you called anyway. So, how's Italy by the way?" Draken tried not to sound too much excited at hearing his voice once again.
"Well, it's an interesting place to say the least. I mean they have beautiful landmarks here and great pastas aside from good set of clothing lines."
"Hmm…how about with the other people? You found someone interesting out there?" Draken inwardly cursed himself for slipping up but unable to take back his words without looking like a fool.
"No. I mean no one caught my eye here since it was already taken by someone else a long time ago."
Draken gripped the phone tightly into his hand.
"I've missed you so much Ken." Mitsuya whispered at the other end of the line.
Draken's breath got caught in his throat, his heart constricting erratically inside his chest.
"Me too Taka."
I wish that we could go back in time
And I'd say to you
I miss you like it was the very first night
(Back to the present)
"So how have you been?" Mitsuya began as he swirled the glass of champagne into his right hand.
"Same old, same old. Our motorbike business got expanded and we have now two branches in Hokkaido and Nihonbashi." Draken answered casually as he took a drink of brandy from his own glass.
"That's good." Mitsuya also took a shot of his champagne in one go, fire spreading through his throat and a tingling sensation left his body.
"How 'bout you? As per Baji's words earlier you really look like a big shot now. Must be hard to chase away the swarm of people asking for an autograph." Draken replied jokingly to which it earned a soft laughter from the other male.
"Nah. I'm not that too famous to have that kind of treatment yet anyway."
"Always too humble Taka. You never change."
"Yeah. And so does my heart beating for you." Mitsuya replied directly as he stared right through his eyes.
Draken was briefly surprised at his sudden confession but he couldn't tear his gaze away that seemed to always spellbind him.
"Fuck. You still have a way with words Taka." Draken laughed lightly to hide the growing nervousness and shyness within him.
"Only for you Ken. Now what do you say we get out of here for a while to get some fresh air?" Mitsuya stood up and offered him his hand and his captivating smile.
Years may have passed and yet Draken was still weak when it came to him. He accepted his hand and stood up.
It was a silent gesture that he was willing to let their yearning hearts connect with one another once again.
I wish I could fly
I'd pick you up and we'd go back in time
I'd write this in the sky
I miss you like it was the very first night
"You remembered that night Ken? When we're stupid teenagers back then talking about some trivial matters on this bridge and laughing like some idiots?" Mitsuya recalled fondly as he stared at the starry skies above while leaning on the slope of the bridge.
"Yeah. How can I forget that night? Pretty damn memorable." Draken replied wistfully.
"Ken I'm sorry for being a fucking coward back then."
This was the second time that Mitsuya has surprised him. Was the environment in Europe made him this bolder and blunter?
"What…?"
Mitsuya took a deep breath before finally facing him with a stormy expression on his face. "I fucking missed you so much. Every single day that I spent without you by my side Ken is just goddamn torture especially when I didn't say so many things to you that would've probably save us the years of misery reminiscing on what ifs in our lives. I just don't want to ruin the beautiful friendship that we have so I tried pushed my feelings away. To held back the truth that I'm so, so in love with you." His voice cracked at the end.
Draken tried to absorb his words, his mind processing the revelation right in front of him.
Then he laughed.
He laughed.
Until he could feel his eyes glistened with the incoming tears that threatened to fall at any second.
"Ken…? What's so funny…?" Mitsuya seemed taken aback by his reaction.
"Fuck I just realized that we're both goddamn idiots. You're not the only one who should say sorry but me too since I'm also holding back on these feelings. I just fucking thought that maybe you don't want it…the kiss…the make outs…so I don't want to ruin what we have and simply settling for the peaceful friendship that we have. But damn Taka. I fucking wanted to stop you that day. Or maybe not and just freaking confess that I love you but I'm a goddamn pussy when it comes to you, so I just let you go without you even knowing what my feelings are. But now, I don't want to add another year of miserable reminiscing on what ifs in our lives since I'll gladly admit that I'm in love with you too. I love you so much that it tears me apart without you having by my side or just knowing that maybe you're already happy with someone else and I have to fucking accept that bitter of what if reality."
Mitsuya listened attentively to every word that slipped past his lips. His heart bursting inside his chest as he finally ran to his side and cupped both of his cheeks, claiming his lips in a passionate kiss that's worth a century waiting for each other.
Draken reciprocated his kiss enthusiastically, his arms winding up on his waist to pull him closer and removed the remaining gap between the two of them.
"That's really a just what if reality because it's never gonna happen Ken since you've taken my heart a long time ago and I'll gladly wait for you for a lifetime since I know you and you're love for me is worth the wait." He murmured against his lips.
This time they sealed their love with a promising kiss that meant to be forever in each other's arms for as long as they're alive and breathing.
take me away
(Take) take me away to you, to you
(Take) take me away, (take) take me away
(Take) take me away to you, to you
(A/N: Mitsuya is my best boy in TR and Doramitsu is one of my top tier ships in this fandom, yet I don't have a fanfic of him yet in my collection? The audacity. I need to fix that. Doramitsu is one of the healthiest, sanest and beautiful ships in this franchise so I have contributed something here to commemorate the loveliness of this duo. Also, the Twin Dragons of Toman panel of the manga is one of my favorites since before Draken have Mikey and Mitsuya got Hakkai there was once the lovely friendship between Draken and Mitsuya. And I lived for that. Also, this is me coping with the tragedy and angst of the final arc of the manga. Ken Wakui camps on AO3 and getting some ideas on how to hurt the fandom with these deaths and pain. Reviews are amusing. So, let me hear them from you).
