Disclaimer: I do not own Genshin Impact or its characters. I got inspiration from the manhua "Luck Arrives after Being in Relationship".
Author's note (A/N): I was undecided whether I'll add smut here or not but I'll go with something safe for now. I'll probably change my mind later on. Lololol I told myself that this is going to be a one shot but it turned out to be multi-chapter as the story goes on. It's been a long time since I've written a fic. The last time I wrote a fanfic was when I was in high school. Also, please forgive me for any typographical or grammatical errors in the story. English is not my mother tongue. With no further ado, enjoy reading.
CHAPTER 1
Wherever you are, my heart will follow.
[Xiao's POV]
Bright gradient amber brown eyes opened as light slipped through his window. That voice again. That voice which he heard several times in his dreams - a soothing and gentle voice from someone he doesn't know and can't remember. And the sound of the flute in the background that makes his heart settle. He could not remember. He wants to remember but every time he wakes up, his memory of his dreams becomes vague. It feels that there is something lacking in his life. Every day. Every morning. It feels like he forgot something very important and this makes him frustrated.
He grunts, turning sideways and still not getting out of bed. He doesn't care if he'll be late for school. No one will nag him if he fails his class or not. No one was there. His parents died when he was young and it is his grandma Ping who takes care of him (A/N: Oh yeah! Madam Ping of Liyue lololololol). He moved out when he started studying for the university. He doesn't want his grandma to be burdened more by taking care of him. Now he lives alone in a small apartment downtown. His grandma is kind and supports him for everything, and he is really thankful for her. He wishes to return the favor to his grandma one day, but he has no idea how. His grandma always told him "The purpose of our lives is to be happy. And one day, I want you to tell me that you found your happiness." So, his grandma wants him to be happy.
Yet he himself doesn't know how.
He sits up. Hair in a mess and eyes are already tired early in the morning. Knowing that nothing will be done just by spacing out, he goes to the kitchen and starts his daily routine. He felt a little cold. It is the winter season after all. A season he hates no matter what. He pours hot water on the white cup on his table, only to be greeted with a crack. There was a light clunk when his cup's handle broke, and the cup continued to shatter.
"Not again." He frowns.
How many cups have been broken? How many plates, furniture, things got damaged? Accident? No it wasn't. He no longer remembers when or how it started. But at some point of his life, bad luck and accidents followed him. How many unfortunate accidents did he get involved with? He is no longer surprised by the numbers of bruises and scars on his body. He is even already acquainted with the local police, and they are also no longer surprised if he got involved in these types of incidents. He was brought in to be questioned once or twice, and was always proven innocent. So the local police got accustomed to him being unlucky.
This is also the reason why other kids don't want to be with him. Rumors easily spread that he was cursed. He got used to it by now and he prefers to live alone anyway. He never mentioned it to his grandmother so she won't worry. Still, he wants someone to talk to about it.
There's nothing that can be done with the broken cup. Another morning with no coffee. Guess he would settle with just bread for breakfast today. He sat on the wooden chair and leaned his back to rest. There was another light cracking sound and before he knew it, the back of the chair snapped.
He is ready to feel the pain of falling on the cold cement floor. He closes his eyes, thinking if he still has any bandages and painkillers left in the cabinet. But to his surprise, a warm hand grabs his pale wrist and prevents him from falling. He opened his eyes, meeting a pair of Teal eyes that could put the forest and sky into shame. The eyes of this stranger have a soothing feel to it. There is this unexplainable feeling of familiarity.
'Hn' was the only thing Xiao could say, eyes wide. It's not even a word.
"Ehe. You have a lot of negative energy surrounding you, aren't yah?" said by the dark blue-haired guy with cyan colored tips on his braids. Free as a wind - that was Xiao's impression of the stranger in front of him. He is not even sure if this stranger is a girl or a boy.
The stranger pulls him closer, Xiao almost bumping into the stranger's chest. So he was a boy; Xiao thought, quickly observing the other's body built. He looks up to see the stranger's face, noticing how the stranger goofily smiles at him.
"Thank you. But who are you and how did you get in?" Xiao asked in an almost monotonous tone. He was amazed at how calm he is right now. Supposedly, he should be panicking and be on guard. The fact that someone trespasses his apartment is dangerous enough. And here he is, mesmerized by those teal eyes; testing if he would see his own reflection from those eyes.
"*clears throat* Have you ever heard of The greatest Bard in the universe?" an expectant expression was there. Cute. Like a kitten who is asking for food.
Wait. Why did he think it was cute? Besides, this guy is a stranger and could be dangerous.
The teal-eyed guy waited for him. There was only silence in the kitchen. Xiao doesn't know how to respond to the stranger's question. He is slightly anxious that a wrong answer could cost his life. He is not scared. He is not nervous. But it is also normal to be careful around a person who suddenly pops up out of nowhere and asks for…. unexpected questions. Think of how unlucky he would be if he would be killed just because he was asked if he knew the greatest bard in the universe.
"Venti." The guy said. Sighing. Seems like the teal-eyed stranger read his mind. "And to answer your question, your door lock is broken so I was able to come in. Oh but I can also enter through your window if you want."
"Venti?" Xiao repeated. It reminds him of the drink size he always orders at Starbucks. Xiao's eyes still staring at the pair of teal. Ah what wonderful eyes. He wanted to drown himself into it. It's like spring has visited him in this cold winter season.
"Yes! Venti at your service! I'll be your good luck charm starting today!" Venti exclaimed happily, shaking his hand.
"Eh?" Xiao blurted out in confusion. "Hn. Xiao" he introduced, enjoying the warm hand that is holding his hand.
And that's how they met on Earth.
