A/N: I don't know how this story will go. Ahahaha I'll try my best to make this story worthy of your time to read. Please give me some time to update and post new chapters since I'm also busy with life. I'll try my best to update as soon as possible. I already have some chapters done so I might upload new chapters by bulk. For now, here's chapter 2. Enjoy reading.
CHAPTER 2
I was weak. I couldn't save anyone. But this time, I'll do everything to protect you.
[Venti's POV]
Despite the warm and relaxing afternoon breeze, Venti's nap got cut off again.
'Who are you? Why do you need to protect me?' That was the question he asked himself every time he dreamt of the unknown warrior. His dreams were unclear. Like there was something preventing him from seeing the details clearly. He misses that person, but how can he miss someone whose face he can't remember. He feels empty inside, and there's nothing he can do about it. He sat, looking at his peaceful surroundings. Heaven is a great place, he thought.
In Heaven's realms, there are a lot of Gods/Archons. Each Archon has their own powers, visions and roles. And each has their own faction.
Venti belongs to the Anemo faction - the beings that received the blessings from the Wind (Anemo) God. This faction is divided into 2: the West Wing and East Wing. The West is responsible for protecting the Anemo faction's territory, mainly composed of warriors. While the East Wing, mainly composed of guardians, is responsible for bringing good luck to the people on earth. They can protect a person from bad luck and can keep them away from harm.
Dvalin, current head of the Anemo faction, was the one taking care of Venti, and Venti is a member of the East Wing.
Venti wonders why Dvalin was not considered as the Wind God since Dvalin is the one leading the said faction. Dvalin told him that he is just a dragon from the West Wing, not an Archon; and he is just temporarily managing the position while the Anemo God is away.
Whenever Venti asks Dvalin who is the Anemo Archon and why this God is not present, Dvalin will simply answer him with "The Anemo God is my dearest friend. The one who saved me when I was corrupted. He taught me about life and freedom, and how to trust and care for humans. He is not here right now, but one day, he will surely come back."
If Venti asks more questions as to where the Anemo Archon is, Dvalin will change the subject and would give him more tasks to do. So he doesn't ask more questions anymore about the Deity. He likes to know more about this missing God and visit the Anemo faction's library, but he was banned from the library after going there drunk one time.
He wonders if there is also information about the Anemo God in the other faction's library; but Dvalin reprimands him from roaming, especially to other territories. He would insist why, but Dvalin would sometimes look at him with worried expression. Venti would feel nervous with how Dvalin looks at him, and he would give up instead because he doesn't want the dragon to worry too much. He knew that Dvalin was keeping something from him. Yet he still gives consideration on how the Dragon would feel. So he only stays within the Anemo faction borders. He believes that whatever Dvalin is doing is for his sake.
As a guardian from the East Wing, one has the responsibility to bring good luck to people on earth or to protect someone from harm. The rankings of the guardians depend on how many people they brought good luck with, or how heavy the situation the guardian saved the person from. Venti has not brought good luck to someone yet, and has never saved anyone before; so he is considered as a newbie guardian. He doesn't travel to Earth yet, and loves to enjoy his freedom in Heaven's realm - playing lyre or flute, or singing songs in exchange for an apple.
Dvalin saw Venti staring into nothingness. "Venti." The dragon called him out, returning him back to reality.
"Hello Dvalin, would you like me to play you a tune?" Venti invited, pulling out a lyre and started to play a gentle sound. "How is everything?" He asked, seeing the Dragon's bad mood.
"Not good. There was an incident on Earth, where a young man was covered with negative energy and bad luck. The other guardians already tried to push away the bad luck and negative energy, but failed. This person's life will be in danger if we don't resolve this soon." Dvalin sat and relaxed beside the Bard, listening to the peaceful and gentle sound coming from the lyre.
"Would you like me to try it out?" Venti offered confidently. He wants to help Dvalin and of course as a guardian from the East Wing, it is natural to give good luck to a person on Earth. Dreaming about the West Wing warrior makes him want to do something to get his mind out of it.
"Isn't this heavy for a newbie?" Dvalin asked. He is not mocking the teal-eyed man; his tone and voice shows concern. The dragon knows Venti has skills and is competent, more than how he looks. He knows how powerful Venti is, but Venti does not know about his power. And the dragon does not want Venti to go somewhere else.
"Don't you trust me?" Venti smiled, reassuring Dvalin about his offer.
"That's because you are lazy. You're not earning much points that up until now, you are still considered as a newbie." Dvalin answered. As much as possible, he wanted Venti to be forever laid-back and carefree. The dragon does not mind Venti being a newbie guardian forever. That way, Dvalin can protect him. "But that's fine, you can just stay here in Heaven's realm and compose poems and music instead. You don't need to earn points to be a high-ranking guardian. Just stay here." Dvalin said.
There was a brief silence. Venti senses that Dvalin is trying to stop him from doing anything again. It is always like this. There is something, or someone that Dvalin is afraid of.
"I'd like to try." Venti protested once more. He knew that Dvalin deeply cares about him. He really appreciates it, but sometimes he thinks that Dvalin prevents him from regaining his memories.
"No." Dvalin firmly answered. Venti opened his mouth to say something but held back. He stopped playing the lyre, letting the wind be the only sound heard. He likes to convince the dragon further but the question is how. Yes, he enjoys poems and music, and he knows that sometimes he is lazy; however, he is not irresponsible. He hopes that he could also help others, whether they are from earth or from heaven; whether they are from the Anemo faction, or from another faction. He desires to know how far the wind could take him. He also feels that this is a one-time opportunity that could lead him back to his memories.
"Pushing away an earthling's bad luck will be a piece of cake for this Windborne bard, won't it?" Someone answered, breaking the awkward atmosphere between them. The two of them turned to see who spoke.
"Ei!" Venti greeted her with a smile. A beautiful lady in lavender kimono walks toward them. There is an aura of a strong-willed leader embracing this heavenly being.
Ei, the Electro God, whose faction is responsible for time and eternity.
"I'm just here to check if Yae went here. I overheard your conversation. Dvalin, it is best for him to go to Earth and do this mission." Ei recommended, convincing the Dragon to allow Venti handle the dilemma. She gave Dvalin a meaningful look. Venti did notice it but said nothing about it. He knew that even if he ask Dvalin or Ei, they won't be giving him the answers he is seeking.
"I got it. Fine then." Dvalin yielded. Somehow, he foresaw that he wouldn't be able to make Venti stay forever and do nothing. The time has probably come. Besides, Ei is higher than Dvalin. She is a God after all. Disobeying her would be rude.
"Yahoo!" Venti cheered. Hearing that he got permission made him happy. He looks forward to this new adventure. "Gotta prepare now so I can travel to Earth soon." He said, sounded pleased and excited to see earth and the humans. He is already thinking of ways on how to bring good luck to the person he will be meeting. It's better to travel to earth soon before Dvalin changes his mind.
Ei watches as Venti leaves to prepare his things on the mission. Still the same as ever, she thought. She hopes that everything will be fine this time.
"What brought you here?" Dvalin asked as soon as Venti was out of sight.
Ei's expression turns serious. Dvalin expected that Ei has some news, seeing her visit the Anemo faction herself. He hoped that it is good news but from the looks of it, it will be something he doesn't want to hear.
"There have been traces of Tsaritsa in the Heaven's realms. If she found out that Barbatos is here and is in a weakened state, she will surely take action and kill him. It is best to send him to Earth for now." Ei explained. She doesn't want to be involved in this matter, but the Anemo faction helped them once so it's time to repay the favor. Besides, she was also already involved with Barbatos because of his wish related to eternity.
"But this case is not an ordinary one. Somehow, the person's bad luck and negative energy is way too much."
"Don't worry, there's a God taking a long vacation on Earth. He may be able to help Barbat-I mean, Venti with it. For now, let's keep looking for Tsaritsa's whereabouts."
[Time skip]
Travelling from one location to another location is easy with the teleport waypoints. Heavenly beings can travel from one territory to another using the teleport waypoint. The same goes for travelling to Earth. Katheryne, the receptionist and teleport waypoint handler greeted Venti with a smile. "Ad Astra Abyssosque~" were the last phrases he heard before teleporting. He heard that phrase hundreds of times. If he could skip it, he would. It is the first time he will be using the waypoint, but his body seems to remember using the teleport waypoint several times. He dismissed the feeling and diverted his mind into something else. He probably used the waypoint before he lost his memories, but he couldn't remember.
It only took a minute and Venti was already in front of the door of his assignment. A small green-painted apartment. He floats in the air for a while, observing the area.
As soon as his foot touched the ground, he heard a glass breaking sound inside the house.
"Not again." Someone grunted.
From the outside, Venti could already tell how vast the negative energy is. How unlucky. This will be a lot of work, he thought.
He grabs the doorknob, twisting it and expecting that the door is locked. He heard a clank sound and realized that the door lock was broken. Lucky!
But there is no time to waste. He'll fix this later. It is more important to see how the earth human is doing. He entered the house and was faced with a gorgeous looking guy.
The person was lacking a little bit in height, but his handsome face and cool aura makes up for it. Venti can still visualize this guy pinning him against the wall. Where did that thought come from? He shook his head. Maybe the earth's air is starting to affect his brain.
He watched as the guy sat on the chair, and Venti heard the snapping sound of wood. Venti's instinct kicks in and quickly grabs the guy's wrist. Pale and too thin. Is this guy even eating? He should start researching for recipes in case he needs to cook for this earthling. Good thing he was able to prevent this guy from falling to the ground. He hates the idea of this person breaking a bone.
'Hn' Venti heard. Is he saying something? Amber brown meets teal. How calming, he thought.
"Ehe. You have a lot of negative energy surrounding you, aren't yah?" He said, pulling the handsome guy close to him. The guy looked up to him and Venti smiled, trying to give comfort to the amber brown-eyed guy. The guy smelled like the combination of Cecilia flower and snow. It made him feel nostalgic. If he could only embrace this guy and bury his face on the nook of this guy's neck, it would be pure bliss. Is this the normal thinking for a guardian who travels to earth for the first time?
"Thank you. But who are you and how did you get in?" The guy mumbled. Venti remembered about the broken door lock.
"*clears throat* Have you ever heard of The greatest Bard in the universe?" Venti said. Silly bard. What were you saying? Of course this earthling wouldn't know. He wants to open up some topics. He actually doesn't know how to say that the guy's door lock is broken. Is that considered a crime on earth?
He waited for the brown-eyed guy to respond, but there was only silence in the kitchen. Venti remembers that he did not take any lessons on how to converse with humans from Earth. There was an awkward silence.
"Venti." he said. Sighing dejectedly. "And to answer your question, your door lock is broken so I was able to come in. Oh but I can also enter through your window if you want." he added honestly. Better not to say any more details about the broken lock. He might be accused of breaking in. He doesn't want to be kicked out on his first day of his job.
"Venti?" the guy repeated. The way the guy says his name surprised him. Why does it sound like music in his ears? Can he record it?
"Yes! Venti at your service! I'll be your good luck charm starting today!" Venti exclaimed happily, shaking the guy's hand. He already looks forward to staying and caring for this human.
"Hn. Xiao." The guy replied in a low voice. Venti smiled gently. Xiao's hands were cold which made him worried. Deep inside, he wanted to take care of this earthling and to assure him that everything will be alright. There was this warm feeling on his chest; like he had known Xiao for a very long time.
And that's how his journey started to regain his lost memories.
to be continued...
A/N: And there you have it! Based on Genshin Impact's story, there was an incident 500 years ago which left Tsaritsa deeply embittered and changed. Whatever happened back then, it was Barbatos who drew her ire. So I decided that Tsaritsa will have something to do with Venti and Xiao in this story and will make her the villain. I might make Tsaritsa a little bit OOC here. Please forgive me for using her as the villain.
