Makeovers And First Dates

Finally got this Hopes, Dreams, And DETERMINATION sequel finished! Just a bit of fluff as Mettaton is an awesome friend and Papyrus and Frisk are cute together! I hope you guys enjoy!

This is set a few weeks after the epilogue of Hopes, Dreams, And DETERMINATION. While this likely COULD be read alone, you'd probably understand it a lot better if you read the main fic.

...

"So that's all there is to it?" Frisk asked her new math tutor, a mole monster named Charles, as she wrote down the algebra formula he explained to her. "My old algebra teacher made it sound so much more complicated."

"That's all there is to it. It's really quite easy once you get the formula down. It's just like a little puzzle on its own." Charles said with a smile.

Frisk nodded, returning the smile as she finished her last few homework problems. Once done, she handed them to Charles to check over.

"Good job, Frisk. They're all correct, and I know you're going to do well on the test next Tuesday. See? We all told you you could do it." the mole monster told her proudly.

Frisk beamed. For once in her life, school was going great. She remembered when, ashamed, she had told Toriel how poorly she had done in school, about skipping classes due to having to work, about her near constant exhaustion and headaches when she was in school, about the things she stole when things got desperate and the fights she had never started but always ended up finishing when she was bullied by her fellow students for being "weird," "shabby," and a thief. She had told her mother about how she had ended up disappointing her teachers and causing them to dislike her, and how she had so nearly dropped out of school. She had thought Toriel would be upset and angry, or even not want her any more.

But Toriel's tight hug and loving words had reassured Frisk that she did indeed still want and love her, and while Toriel had indeed been upset and angry, to Frisk's shock it hadn't been at her, but her teachers and principal. And the next day, Toriel and Asgore had gone into her school, with Dr. Gaster in tow, and Toriel had torn most of her teachers and her principal a new one when they had called Frisk "troubled," and a 'problem student," saying that Frisk was only "troubled," because of her home life, and that the teachers should have noticed Frisk's malnutrition and exhaustion, and helped her out of her problems rather than dismissing her as a "bad" student. It had gotten to the point where Frisk had gone running in to calm the situation because she genuinely worried Toriel would fireball someone. Asgore and Gaster were less hot tempered and helped to keep Toriel calm, but also backed her up, both citing the condition they had seen Frisk in and her and her sister's low weight and clear signs of neglect.

It had ended with Toriel and Asgore telling the principal and teachers that they were withdrawing Frisk from her old school and taking her to get her education elsewhere or homeschooling her until Toriel's new school opened in September, and that they would do the same for Chara. Frisk's English teacher, who felt terrible for not noticing how horrible her home life truly had been, had suggested an online program that would help get her through the rest of her tenth grade year and apologized to Frisk for not helping her sooner. Frisk had been shocked by the apology and accepted it, also apologizing to him. He had been a strict but good teacher, and she wished she could have been a better student. He had brushed off her apology saying it was unnecessary and that he hoped things got better for her, and that if she needed any help with English she could contact him. Her shop teacher too told her she would miss her as a student and that she could call if she needed any help. The rest of the teachers hadn't really said anything as Frisk left to clean out her locker and leave Ebott High for good.

Things had gone much better when they had gone to Ebott Elementary to meet with Tina's teacher. Miss Brown had hugged both her and Tina when they had gotten there, so happy to see them both all right that she was crying, and had thanked Toriel, Asgore, and Gaster over and over for taking care of them. After talking for a while with Miss Brown and seeing how much she cared about Tina and Frisk, and thanking her for submitting a report even if it hadn't been seen, Asgore and Toriel had of course let Tina continue her first grade year at Ebott City Elementary. Both Asgore and Toriel had really liked Miss Brown, though it was Gaster who seemed especially taken with Tina's pretty, kindhearted teacher, much to Frisk's secret delight. She thought they would be cute together eventually, though wouldn't put any pressure on either of them.

And now Frisk felt like everything was completely in order. Online school was doing her wonders, and with no financial issues putting pressure on her, she was able to concentrate fully on her studies. Her online classes had allowed her to learn at her own pace, and with the tutors her mom and dad had hired for her in the subjects she struggled in, and her new glasses making reading so much more comfortable and easy, her grades were shooting up. She now had full confidence that she would get into eleventh grade, and her high school diploma, which she had once thought would be an impossible dream, she knew would become, with hard work, a sweet reality.

...

"Well, that's it for your tutoring session for today. I'll be back Monday to help you go over your test prep." Charles told her, getting up from his seat.

Frisk nodded with a smile. "Thanks again for all your help."

"It's no problem. Just call if you need anything." he told her and headed out.

Frisk sighed happily and went into the living room, flopping down on the couch next to Chara, who was just finishing up her history homework. "Hey, Chara."

"Hey, Frisk. Tutoring session over?" Chara asked, looking up from her book.

"Yep. Finished all my homework too."

"Cool. I'm just about done too." Chara found what she needed and wrote her last answer down. "There, finished!" She grinned and put the book aside. "Now, let's talk about something less boring. A little birdie told me you and Papyrus are going out tomorrow night."

Frisk blushed. "We are."

"So where's he taking you?"

"He said it's a surprise." Frisk told her. She then sighed, not hearing it when the door slid open. "I still need to figure out what I'm gonna wear. I want to look nice for him. Think I should go with that ruffle shirt Mom bought me and some nice slacks or jeans? Or should I go get a dress? Do you think Mom would take me to get a dress?"

"Did somebody say makeover?!" a very enthusiastic and familiar voice asked and Frisk and Chara jumped. They turned to see Mettaton posing dramatically in the entryway, next to their amused parents.

"Literally no one said the word "makeover." Chara pointed out, rolling her eyes.

"Well, it was most certainly implied." Mettaton told her before turning to Frisk. "So what's going on, darling? Getting ready for something fancy?"

"Yep. A date with Papyrus." Frisk said with a smile, and Mettaton made an overdramatic swooning pose, causing her to laugh. "So how's everything going, Mettaton?"

"Very well, sweetheart! Andrea and the others are stable, and they're going to move into their temporary homes in the ghost village early next week. Doctor Gaster and Alphys said their bodies should be ready as early as next month."

Frisk beamed. "That's awesome! I'm so glad they're doing so well."

"I am too. It'll be great for them to get back to their lives. In fact, considering how often Asgore's visited the kids and that Felicity has accidentally called him Dad several times, I'm pretty sure she's going to end up moving in with you guys."

"She is." Asgore confirmed.

Toriel nodded with a smile. "We were going to tell all of you tonight at dinner, but Mettaton just beat us to it."

Mettaton smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, your majesties. I guess I accidentally foiled your presentations."

"It is fine." Toriel reassured him.

"That would be great!" Frisk said with a grin. "It'll be awesome to have another little sister and Tina adores Felicity." She then got more serious. "How's Benji doing? I know he was devastated after realizing he lost his family." she said very softly.

"He is pretty upset, but he knows we are there for him, and we have a grief counsellor in to talk to him every week." Asgore answered.

"I hope he'll be all right." Frisk said softly. "I'll go over and visit him Sunday."

"I will too, and I'm sure Mom and Dad will take him in. I know we're not the parents he lost, but we'll still be there for him." Chara added.

Mettaton smiled softly. "He knows, trust us. Though actually, just between you and me, darlings, I think someone else is going to adopt him. Undyne's been in to see him almost every day. He adores her and you can tell she loves him too. She's also sort of been asking Gaster about how to raise a little skeleton. I think she just wants to ask Alphys about it first, and considering some of the fanfiction Alphys has accidentally sent me when she's tired, I'm pretty sure Alphys is going to be over the moon about it."

Frisk grinned and so did Chara. "That's great!" Frisk said happily.

Chara nodded. "I somehow never pictured Undyne being a mom, but I'm happy for them."

"Just do not say anything about it yet until Undyne confirms it." Asgore told them.

"We won't." Frisk promised and Chara nodded.

"Good." Asgore said, relieved. "Now, why don't I make everyone a cup of tea while you relax?"

Everyone agreed to this and thanked him, and retired to the living room to sit down. Mettaton turned to Frisk. "Now that that's all settled, tell me more about this date! You were saying something about needing a dress?"

"Yeah...maybe. I kind of don't know where we're going. Papyrus said it was a surprise." Frisk admitted. "I thought it might be nice to dress up a little for him, so I was going to ask Mom if she could take me to get one tomorrow."

"Asgore and I have a meeting tomorrow, sweetheart." Toriel said gently, then mistook Frisk's look of guilt for bothering her for disappointment. "But I might be able to take you tonight after we pick up Tina from school, or..."

"There's no need to worry about it, your Majesty! I can take her for you!" Mettaton declared grandly before turning to Frisk. "I'll take you out and help you find the most fabulous outfit possible for your date!"

"Thanks, but you don't have to..." Frisk started.

"I know, but I WANT to." Mettaton reassured her. "So tomorrow, I'm taking you and your siblings out for the most fabulous shopping day ever!"

"That would be wonderful, Mettaton." Toriel told her. "Thank you so much. Here, I'll give you some money..."

"No, no, the shopping trip's on me! I am a celebrity after all, and the best use for money is spoiling my family and friends." Mettaton told her.

"Are you sure?" Toriel asked.

"Of course, darling." Mettaton told her.

"Mettaton, thank you so much, but you don't need to pay for it. I can take care of it..." Frisk started, but was again cut off as Mettaton waved off her protests.

"Nonsense! This trip is all on me." he said firmly, then sighed. "Plus, I owe you a lot, and I treated you horribly in the Underground. I'd like to make up for it."

Frisk frowned and patted his arm. "You don't need to buy forgiveness. I already forgave you for the fight, remember?"

"I know, and this isn't about me trying to buy your forgiveness. This is about making things right." he told her. "And look, it's not like you didn't earn it. Not only did you help free us, but you also co-starred in five of my highest rated shows, and I didn't even pay you for your hard work and time. So if you'd take fabulous clothes for you and your siblings as a form of currency for at least part of your work..." he cajoled.

"Are you sure?" Frisk asked softly.

"Of course I'm sure, darling!" he told her with a smile.

Frisk finally nodded with a smile. "Then I'd really like that. Thanks, Mettaton."

...

The next morning, Frisk and Tina climbed into Mettaton's limo, Tina chattering away a mile a minute, super excited about getting to ride in a limo. Asriel and Chara had decided to not come, as neither liked shopping and Chara already had a date with Sans, so it was just the three of them.

The mall was huge, far bigger than Frisk expected, with stores as far as the eye could see. For someone who had solely done her clothes shopping in the clearance rack of the neighborhood charity store, it was rather overwhelming.

"Now I actually did have Chara text Papyrus to see what he had planned for the date and what you should wear." Mettaton told her. "And he did indeed tell me, and while he is of course wonderful and said you would look lovely in whatever you wear, I think a dress would be most fitting for tonight. So first, we'll go look for clothes, and then I thought I'd treat us all to a spa day... not to mention you'll both need a hair stylist, especially you, Frisk. Because whoever cut your poor hair last butchered it." He frowned as he looked at Frisk's uneven locks.

Frisk blushed in embarrassment. "Uh, yeah, that was me." Mettaton looked shocked and Frisk blushed even more and looked at her shoes. "I, um, tried my best. Hair styling's not one of my greatest talents, especially when it's my own."

Mettaton snapped out of his surprise and looked apologetic. "It'd be extremely hard for anyone to cut their own hair, darling. But don't fear, you don't need to any more! I know a wonderful stylist who can fix it and give you a hairstyle you're going to love! So what do you say?"

"That's really nice of you, but you don't need to do all that for us..." Frisk started, but Mettaton cut her off.

"Frisk, considering you did five episodes of my show with me, and I'm the only and as such the highest paid celebrity in the Underground, and you're the first guest I've ever had on my show, you've earned every single penny." Mettaton reassured her. "More than enough for a spa day and some clothes. Honestly, it would take a couple of these trips before I pay off what you would have earned working for me. So let me treat you and have fun, all right?" Mettaton asked gently.

Frisk nodded and thanked him and Mettaton happily led her and Tina to a rather fancy looking shop full of the kind of designer clothes the richer kids in her school wore. And she could see why. One look at the prices and her eyes bugged out. Thirty dollars for a shirt?!

Mettaton didn't seem to notice her discomfort at first, happily talking about how nice the clothes were. He began happily picking out clothes for both of them, holding some up to check size and color, and ignoring the price. "Here, Tina, this pink shirt with the starburst pattern would be adorable on you!" He passed the little shirt down to an excited Tina. "And Frisk..." He stopped short when he saw her face. "Darling, what's wrong?"

"Everything's so expensive." Frisk whispered.

"it's not that expensive." Mettaton reassured her. "This store isn't that high end. And remember darling, I'm a celebrity, and I'M the one paying! You don't have to worry about price. Just go wild!"

"But Mettaton, I don't need you to waste all your money on me." Frisk protested. "I can always find a dress at the charity shop and fix it up if I need to."

Mettaton shook his head. "Frisk, sweetheart, you don't need to do that! You deserve a brand new dress that's just for you. I know you're very polite, frugal, and thrifty, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I definitely understand the appeal of making and designing your own outfits, and I've done that a lot as well. Heck, some of my best ones have been from pieces I found at the dump! But you don't have to do it just because you're worried about money any more. It's okay to treat yourself, or let the people who care about you treat you to nice things. Plus, you need to get ready for your date tonight. It will be so much easier on you if you get something nice and new, made to actually fit you. And remember, like I said before, you've more than earned it. So pick out some nice things you like, don't look at the price tag right now, and enjoy yourself, okay?"

Frisk felt a little better at this, though was still very unsure about picking too much or the wrong thing, so did more looking instead of picking out. Mettaton alternated between looking for stuff for her and Tina, and seemed to have a knack for finding clothes that were both fashionable and comfortable, things she could easily see herself wearing. And Tina was utterly thrilled, having a blast trying on new and pretty clothes, pretending she was a fashion model and bringing Tina and Mettaton into the game with her. Slowly Frisk calmed down and began to relax and really enjoy this.

In the end, both girls ended up with several outfits, and Frisk had to have tried on like a dozen dresses before one, a lovely deep purple sundress with soft ruffles and spaghetti straps that flowed gently to her calves, struck her as perfect. It felt like it was made for her, soft and comfortable without itching, restricting her movements, or being far too big on her.

It made her feel like a princess.

Frisk stepped out of the dressing room, walking confidently while wearing the dress. "Frisk, you look so pretty!" Tina told her happily.

Mettaton nodded with a smile. "You look amazing, darling."

Frisk grinned. "I think I found my date dress."

...

Their next stop was a shoe store, Mettaton helping Frisk and Tina pick out new sneakers, dress shoes, and sandals, Frisk choosing a lovely pair of strappy silver sandals to go with her dress at Mettaton's advice.

"So what else would you like with your date outfit? A necklace? Something for your hair?" Mettaton then asked.

"I'd like to get a ribbon." Frisk admitted with a smile, remembering the pink ribbon that she had worn on her first "date" with Papyrus and how much he seemed to like it. Mettaton nodded with a smile, and after checking a few accessory stores, were able to find the perfect one that matched her dress exactly, as well as some for Tina's braids too.

They had lunch at the mall's food court, hit a few more stores, and then went to their final stops of the day, the spa and hair salon, where Tina and Frisk had their hair washed, cut, and styled and their nails done. Tina proudly showed off her new French braid and admired her sparkly pink nails afterwards, while Frisk couldn't stop touching her hair in amazement. With shampoo and conditioner that had actually been made to revitalize her hair, rather than the cheapest stuff she could find that was often watered down to make it last longer, her hair was now soft and silky, cut completely evenly now with the spilt ends trimmed away. It looked beautiful.

For once in her life, she felt beautiful.

Mettaton, of course, bought bottles of the shampoo and conditioner for both of them, and then they went home, Mettaton helping them bring all the bags of stuff he had bought them inside with Toriel and Asgore's help. Frisk and Tina thanked him over and over, so grateful for his kindness.

"Don't worry about it, darlings. You both deserve it." Mettaton told them, smiling. "And Frisk, good luck on your date. You're going to knock the socks off of Papyrus with how fabulous you look."

"Thanks, Mettaton." Frisk said, smiling.

"Happy to help, darling." With that he hugged them both and headed off.

...

Later that afternoon, Frisk stood at the mirror, tying the ribbon into her hair and putting on a coat of lip gloss before smoothing down her dress. Her heart pounded with both excitement and nervousness.

"Frisk, Papyrus is here!" Toriel called from downstairs.

"Coming!" Frisk called back, hurrying to her room, grabbing her bag, and heading down the steps. Papyrus was standing in the doorway, dressed nicely in a suit jacket, white shirt, and black slacks, talking happily to her parents. He looked incredibly handsome, and Frisk's cheeks turned red.

And when he looked over and spotted her, his sockets went huge and a big silly grin appeared on his face, his cheeks turning bright red. "W-WOWIE... FRISK, YOU LOOK INCREDIBLE!"

"T-Thanks." Frisk said shyly. "So do you."

He blushed even more if that was possible. "T-THANKS! THE GREAT PAPYRUS IS ALWAYS PREPARED FOR THE OCCASION! ESPECIALLY IF THE OCCASION IS TAKING THE WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL OUT ON A DATE!" he said proudly. Frisk felt her cheeks getting even hotter at this, and smiled widely.

"You two lovebirds have fun." Toriel said, smiling.

"Just bring her back by ten-thirty." Asgore told Papyrus sternly before smiling to Frisk. "Have a good time, you two."

"I WILL, YOUR MAJESTY! AND THANK YOU!" Papyrus told them, smiling, and offered his arm to Frisk, who happily took it.

"Night, Mom! Night, dad!" Frisk waved as they headed off. She snuggled close to Papyrus as they headed down the street, watching the sun slowly start to lower in the sky, turning everything golden. "So what are we doing, Papyrus?"

"WELL, I...HEARD ABOUT YOUR CONCERT WITH SHYREN, AND THAT YOU WERE A REALLY GOOD DANCER! SO... I THOUGHT I'D TAKE YOU DANCING." Papyrus said shyly before looking nervous. "Is-Is that okay? We can always do something else if you don't actually like dancing."

"Don't worry, Papyrus. I love dancing." Frisk reassured him, smiling. "Especially when it means I'll be dancing with you. Though I'll admit I don't know any couple's dances. Never had anyone to practice them with before." she admitted.

He grinned. "DON'T WORRY, FRISK! THAT MEANS WE CAN LEARN TOGETHER!"

Frisk grinned back, her soul nearly shining with delight. She didn't think it was possible, but now she was even more excited for this date. Dancing and having Papyrus hold her in his arms?

It was the perfect date for Frisk Dreemurr.

...

The place Papyrus had chosen was a small dance club that had just opened up, with disco lights and shiny tiled floors. Much to Frisk's pleasure, Napstablook was the DJ, and they were damn good at it, somehow working the table effortlessly despite their lack of arms. Couples were dancing together happily to the cheerful music that filled the room, and Frisk was even more happy to see Aaron and Shyren among them. Despite being total opposites in personality, they had always been so sweet together, from the concert where Aaron had been the first to show up to support Shyren and how they had been there for each other both after losing their siblings and the both terrifying and saddening experience of the True Lab, where they had come with Frisk to discover the truth about what happened to their siblings. No matter what, they had always been there for each other. Frisk thought they were perfect together.

She decided not to interrupt them though. They all had dates to focus on after all, and Frisk was simply excited to dance with Papyrus.

The first few dances were fast, and Frisk and Papyrus showed off their best moves to one another, Frisk giggling as Papyrus danced as dramatically as possible to entertain her. They laughed, twirled, and had a lot of fun.

And then the first slow song came, and they both tried to figure out how to transform their solo dancing skills into dancing with each other.

"Okay, I think you're supposed to put your right hand on my waist and I put my left on your shoulder." Frisk said nervously and he nodded, gently putting his hand on her waist with a blush as she had to stretch slightly to reach his shoulder, tall as he was.

"And then I think we're supposed to hold hands with our free ones, right?" Papyrus asked. "And then, I think I saw in a movie that we're supposed to do a box step. Like we go left, then back, then right, then up? Or do I have it backwards? Or sideways?"

"I'm not sure, but let's try it. It probably doesn't matter too much as long as we're in sync and don't bump into anybody." She took his free hand in hers, and they (badly) attempted a box step, trying to figure out how to get in sync and accidentally stepping on each other's feet or bumping into each other, laughing nervously. It took a little bit to get right, but soon they were dancing across the floor, loving every minute of having the other in their arms as a beautiful song played on the speakers.

Like a ship without a sea

Like a song without a melody,

I don't know where I'd be or what I'd do,

Because I was made for you.

They gazed into each other's eyes, smiling, simply enjoying their time together, not minding if they or the other made a mistake as they danced. Because even if they weren't perfect...

They still were perfect for each other.

...

"I had a lot of fun, Papyrus." Frisk said with a smile as they exited the dance club a few hours later, holding onto his arm. "That was a great idea to go dancing."

Papyrus smiled widely. "I HAD A GOOD TIME TOO! YOU'RE A GREAT TEACHER, FRISK!"

Frisk chuckled. "I was teaching you? I thought you were teaching me!"

"WELL, WE TAUGHT EACH OTHER." Papyrus amended. "BUT YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE REALLY FUN?"

"What?"

"IF WE TOOK DANCE CLASSES TOGETHER! THAT WAY WE COULD LEARN EVEN MORE DANCES WE COULD DO TOGETHER."

Frisk grinned and hugged him. "I'd like that. I'd like that a lot."

He happily hugged her back, then leaned down shyly, asking for a kiss. She smiled and stood on tiptoe, meeting her lips with his teeth. They kissed softly for a few minutes before slowly pulling away. Papyrus's eyes then widened. "What time is it?"

Frisk checked her phone. "Eight, why?"

"Because we need to get to Part 2 of our date! I don't want you to miss it." Papyrus said frantically. He took Frisk's hand and took off running, and she raced after him.

"Papyrus, where are we going?" she asked, breathing heavily as they raced through town towards the outskirts, forests and rolling hills replacing buildings and houses.

"YOU'LL SEE, MY DEAR FRISK! IT'S JUST UP THIS HILL." Papyrus told her, pointing towards a nearby hill. They climbed it, reaching the top, and Frisk gasped happily at the sight that awaited her.

A picnic blanket had been placed there, with a set of gently glowing candlesticks atop it. While it was a little hard to see in the darkness, a vase of flowers also rested on the blanket, as colorful as the first bouquet he had given her, and a radio was sitting on a rock nearby, playing slow, relaxing music.

"I... might have enlisted Sans and Dad to help set this up while we were at the dance club." Papyrus admitted. He pulled a picnic basket out of his inventory. "I wanted to surprise you."

"It's amazing." Frisk breathed, then stood on tiptoe, wanting to kiss him, but couldn't quite reach. Her face turned bright red. "Um, Papyrus, can you bend over so I can thank you for this wonderful surprise? I'm too short."

Papyrus chuckled and did so, and they kissed happily until there was a crackling sound in the sky behind them. Frisk jumped and turned around, only to see that a distance away, in the next city, fireworks were going off, and they could easily be seen from this hill.

Papyrus grinned and wrapped an arm around her. "I heard there was a fireworks show in the next city, and I was going to take you there, but I don't have my license yet, and I also wanted to take you to the dance club. But when I realized we could probably still see them from here, I thought this might be a great place to watch them and have a romantic picnic together. Um... is that okay?"

Frisk hugged him. "It's more than okay. It's amazing! You, the great Papyrus, are a dating master." she said with a grin.

He blinked. "I AM?" He then shook his head and posed triumphantly. "OF COURSE I AM!"

Frisk nodded happily. "Yes, you are."

They cuddled on the picnic blanket together, tucking hungrily into the various sandwiches and sides Papyrus had packed, and Frisk was delighted to see more of her favorite chocolate covered strawberries.

They ate, talked, and laughed as they watched the fireworks explode in the sky, the sparks in their souls flaring just as much as they spent time together.

It was one of the best days of Frisk's life.

...

Needless to say, they got home only at the last minute that night, and their kisses goodnight on the porch had Toriel end up flicking the lights on and off. They reluctantly said goodbye with the promise of seeing each other tomorrow, and Frisk nearly floated inside, carrying her bouquet with a big silly grin on her face.

Chara looked up from the couch where she was watching a movie with Sans, snuggled into the smaller skeleton's side. "I'd ask if you had a good time, but that'd probably be a stupid question." she said with a chuckle, clearly noticing her lovestruck look.

"TIBIA honest, I think she had a great time." Sans joked.

Frisk just smiled. "It was the best."
