Let it be said from the mountaintops: I AM THE WORST AUTHOR IN THE HISTORY OF AUTHORS!
I have been working on my own things: Homework, sports, writing my own book I hope to publish one day, so like I have said a thousand time before, I have little free time to work on this story.
I love writing it though, and I love reading your comments! You have no idea how much joy I get from reading them. Without those comments, I would have given up on this story at chapter one. So THANK YOU!
I want to let you know that this chapter is shorter then my other ones. It's just one scene, but you find out a lot more about Beatrice and her "talking".
So without farther ado, read on my wonderful readers!
If Beatrice had to think of one word to describe Merlin at that moment, she would have to say: Tired. In a soppy mess, Merlin walked into Gaius's chamber and plopped onto the stool and started to eat his supper.
Gaius, not wanting to leave the moment unruined, suggested, "Do you want some vegetables with that?"
Beatrice hopped onto the table and sat right in front of the tired Merlin, waiting for his reaction. Merlin simply looked up as his mentor and let out an exasperated laugh.
"I know you're still angry with me." He said.
Gaius sat down on the other side of the table. "Your mother asked us to look after you."
Merlin played with his spoon, putting in and out of the soup. "Yes." Was all he said.
"What did your mother say about your gifts?" Gaius asked. Beatrice's tail thudded against the table as she listened to the conversation with interest.
Merlin paused before answering. "Well," He said finally. "That I was special."
Beatrice tried not to coo. Of course she did. Any mother says that about their children. I remember when my kittens were born-
Gaius gave her a look, and she decided it was safer to shut up. He turned back to Merlin. "You are special, the likes of which I've never seen before."
Merlin looked at his soup, then at Beatrice, then back at Gaius. "What do you mean?"
Beatrice decided to answer that, besides she wasn't used to being ignored. Well, magic spells require magic incantations, spells. It would take years to study. What Gaius and I saw you do was elemental, instinctive.
Merlin looked at her in confusion. "Can you talk, or am I imagining it?" Beatrice did her best to shrug.
Both.
"Oh. Well if that's the case: Beatrice, what's the point of magic if it can't be used?"
How am I supposed to know the answer to that? I'm just an ordinary house cat with no magic value whatsoever.
Now Merlin looks really confused. "So you do talk?"
Gaius decided to answer. "Only those who she let's hear her, can hear her. She let me years ago, but apparently you can hear her on your own."
"How?"
"I don't know. You are a question that has never been posed before, Merlin."
Merlin pauses again, thinking of a question. "Did either of you ever study magic?" He asked.
Uther banned all works of magic 20 years ago. Beatrice hissed.
"Why?"
Apparently people used magic for the wrong reasons at that time. Uther thought that it threw the natural order of things into confusion and chaos. So he made it his mission to destroy everything from back then. Even the dragons.
"What? All of them"?"
All but one. I think he wanted it to be a warning or an example or something like that. He locked it in a cave deep beneath the castle. Where no one can find and free it.
On that note, Merlin look even more confused. Beatrice felt sorry for the poor boy.
"Ah, eat up." Said Gaius, starting to eat his own soup. "When you've finished, I need you to take a preparation to Lady Helen. She needs it for her voice."
Beatrice nodded. I can help with that! She exclaimed cheerfully as she hopped down from the table and into Merlin's room, to get some rest.
I want to say again: Thanks for reading and commenting on this story. Hopefully next chapter will be longer and we'll get to see Merlin and Beatrice "talk" more about her past and what she thinks of magic. Perhaps there will even be a flash back. Bum Bum BUUUUUUMM! (I have to do that). Sadly, the next chapter will take a while to write. But I promise that it will be worth the wait.
My next update will be on A Ghost's Legacy. I have an idea on what will happen, I just need to get it on a doc. I promises there will be some Charles-Justice basking.
See you next chapter and don't let the trials of today stop you from doing great!
