*A/N:Just note that the rest of the characters have formed their temporary teams off screen to save time.*
How beautiful the darkened sky looked.
An endless expanse of pitch black.
One could not help but feel calm upon looking at those blank black skies.
Truly it was quite a view.
Unfortunately Keir couldn't quite enjoy the view as he was in the process of soaring through the sky,courtesy of the Chimera he had the pleasure of meeting.
The Goat head had rammed into him and had quite literary send him flying,he took no damage however thanks to his armor but he got sent flying pretty high.
"This complicates thing's."He mutterd as if he wasn't soaring through the sky.
However the reason for his word's were due to the Chimera.
Chimera's are rare subspecies,with a large amount of also get Kymera's which are lesser version of a Chimera but dangerous nonetheless.
But back to the Chimera,Keir couldn't help but curse at the teacher's incompetence.
Chimera's were dangerous and very,very lion could tear through aura as it it were paper,the goat's charge had the force of an artillery shell behind it and the snake possed a deadly poison that could kill a full grown human or faunas as soon as it enters their system.
Not to mention it was absurdly fast for it's size.
A few Huntsmen and Huntresses in training didn't stand a chance,unless they could perhaps outnumber it but he doubted the student's had enough skill for that.
However he could fight it alone,he had already gouged the lion's right eye out and if he was alone he didn't have to worry about holding back.
That plan did sound more plausible.
Keir's thoughts came to a halt as he noticed he was slowing down,once he did gravity took hold of him pretty quickly and he began plummeting to the ground.
Looking downward's he noticed an large open patch hugging against a high cliff.
However that did not get his attention,instead it was the large amount of people he spotted on that empty were dressed brightly and Keir noted the familiarity of some.
Unfortunately he was going to plummet there,so fighting the Chimera alone seemed to be tossed out of the window.
His new objective would now need to be,to ensure no one dies.
He wasn't really doing it out of good will but let's just say he could gain something from this.
*POV-SWITCH EARLIER*
"Still no sign of him."Jaune mutterd,slight worry laced in his tone.
"I'm sure he'll be does seem to be able to handle himself."Ren replied.
"Yeah,Ren's right Keir is a badass knight,nothing's stopping him!"The ever enthusiastic Nora exclaimed.
Although she hadn't seen him in action,one could say Nora had a gift of weeding out the strong one's.
"Yeah,he did seem pretty strong I mean you should've seen him earlier."Ruby spoke remembering how swiftly he took down the Grimm in such fast succession.
She was still quite baffled at how he managed it,he must've possessed a large amount of strength to just casually cleave through them,and he was fast and then there was his weapon's.
Although the sword's weren't anything speacial they had incredible craftsmanship,and they wear beautiful to boot.
But the knight himself seemed a tad full of mystery even though she just met him,he seemed a bit odd.
But taking her thoughts away from that she looked toward's her comrades.
The four of them had regrouped via smoke signal when they failed to spot a river.
Alas the knight had not regrouped with the four,and this was cause for concern.
They had waited but the more they stayed in one place the higher risk of them getting attacked by any prowling Grimm.
Although most Grimm on the island could easily be dispatched,this did not exactly make thing's more Grimm they fought the more they exhausted their aura's and dust,and it was too early into the test to use up all of their dust.
"It is unwise to stay in one place,we should perhaps begin we can make another signal to see if we are able to locate Keir."Ren suggested.
"I guess you're right...so then where should we go?"Jaune asked.
"Hmm,treading around the island blindly is not the smartest move but we have little our scrolls or any map's we will have trouble navigating our way."Ren explained.
All they knew was,was that the island was big and mostly populated by a dense forest and smaller patch of sand.
"Then walking around randomly it is!Come one guy's!"Nora started walking already and the other's soon followed,having little choice.
"Is this really a good idea.I mean walking around without knowing where we're going?"Jaune questioned as his eye's scanned through the forest.
Even with the bright sunlight the forest still seemed creepy and dense,as if something would just jump out and attack was really starting to work on his nerves,who even thought this test would be a good idea?
"It'll be fine!Relax just follow me and we'll make it in no time."Nora stated.
"What do you mean by 'make it'?'"Ruby asked as Nora merely shrugged her shoulders.
"Eh,who knows."
"Oh."
Silence greeted the four as they continued their navigating.
However looking at so many tree's for so long was beginning to get tedious.
And the silence did not exatly help,it made the experience of traversing the forest all the more tedious and nerve racking
However as they continued walking Ruby took note of Ren suddenly coming to a halt.
"Is something wrong?"She asked as the boy turned to her.
"No,but I'm pretty sure I heard the flowing of water nearby."He explained as he strained his ears.
Yes,it was faint but he could make out the sound of flowing water and it was nearby too.
"Really!That's great!"Ruby's outburst quickly got the attention of the other two as they turned around slightly confused.
"I might have heard a river nearby."Ren quickly explained as the other's expressions lit up.
"Really?That's Great!Which way do you hear it from?"Jaune asked.
He was really thirsty,and a river would be his salvation.
Gestruing to his right Ren spoke up again."This way."
"Then let's get going!"Nora exclaimed as she rushed to the direction Ren pointed out,the other three quickly following suit.
She seemed especially excited for this river.
*POV-CHANGE*
"Finnaly a river!"Weiss couldn't help but exclaime as she saw the large river flowing in between two sections of the forest.
The water looked refreshing and just looking at made her happy."Finnaly I can take bath,and wash these clothes."
Someone of her status shouldn't looking like some random filthy urchent.
"Hold on princess,we're going to have to drink that water and I rather not be drinking your bath water."Quinn snapped her out of thoughts of having a bath.
"You can not expect me to remain this dirty for the duration of this test."Weiss replied while gestruing to herself.
There were several dirt smudges on her clothes and a bit on her face and her hair,but Quinn didn't look any better.
However unlike Weiss she didn't exatly seem to mind,she was just thirsty.
"Suck it up.I'm thirsty,once I get my fill then you can take your bath."
"Fine."She said with a huff before her gaze snapped to the other side of the river as she heard slight movement.
Quinn followed her gaze as four other student's emerged from the other side of the river.
Quinn was quick to notice a familiar face amongst the new commers.
"Quinn,surprised to see you here."Luna,spoke upon noticing the other girl.
"Wait,you know that twerp?"Yang asked as she sent a glare at the shorter girl across the river.
"That I do,you seem to have beef with her though."Luna noted.
"Tch,damn right I do."
"This is hardly the time to quarrel."The voice of Blake cut in as she noticed the slight tension.
"I agree,it would be in our best interest to group up with those increase our odd's."Pyhrra suggested.
From the other side of the river Weiss couldn't help but feel happy upon seeing Pyhrra.
She now had an opportunity to team up with 'the' Pyhrra,with that they'd be sure to make the ultimate team.
This test was as good as passed,with Pyhrra on her side.
However she did take notice of the other members present.
The blonde girl was the older sister of that insufferable child.
The black haired one,had the gall to talk in that condescending way back at Beacon.
And the ashen haired one,well she had no idea who that was but she seemed to know Quinn.
Weiss buried her thoughts as she noticed the four made their way to her and Quinn's side.
They merely jumped over the river,it wasn't a difficult task as the river wasn't that wide.
As they approached Weiss noticed the blonde sending Quinn glare's,she seemed mad about something but she hadn't any idea on what it was.
Pyrrha for one smilled as she noticed a familiar face.
Blake seemed to slightly hang back as she watched the group,staying silent.
Luna remained much of the same,a tired look in her eye's as she had her large sniper hefted onto her shoulder.
They all had their diffrent feelings at the momment,the only thing they had in common was that they were all dirty.
"So what's with you Luna,ain't like you to team up with other's."Quinn was the first to speak up as she focused her attention on her friend.
"I'm a sniper,not some survivalist 's no way I would make it if I was on my own."Luna replied with a shrug.
"Then I guess it's a pretty good thing we met,huh."Yang spoke up again while still slightly glaring at the shorter girl.
"Suppose so."Luna mutterd before she turned to Weiss."Hmm,a Scnhee I never expected one to make it so far."
"What's that suppose to mean?"She questioned as she narrowed her eye's at Luna.
"Oh it's nothing."
Weiss slightly scoweld at the girl.
It seemed almost everyone she met was going to make it their mission to irratied her.
"Ahem...I don't believe we met,my name's Pyrrha a pleasure."She spoke up as she approached Quinn.
"Quinn."She merely replied as she examined the girl before her."So you're the famous invincible girl,guess you look strong enough."
"Uhm...thank's?"Pyrrha said not exactly knowing how to respond but she quickly decided to change the subject."So would the two of you like to join our group,our chances might improve if we stick together."
"We would love to!"Weiss responded before Quinn could.
No way she would turn done such an oppertunity to finnaly join forces with one of the best future Huntresses in her generation.
"That's great to hear then I suggest we sta-"Pyrrha started but was quickly cut of by a loud voice.
"Salvaaaaaaaaaaation!"A voice exclaimed.
They all turned to see an orange haired girl run to the river and prepare to jump into it.
She was however stopped by a taller black haired boy who merely sighed at her antics.
The group looked slightly baffled but their attention quickly shifted at two other figures who made it near the river.
Yang's eye's widen as she took note of a familiar red hood.
"Ruby!"Yang quickly took notice of her younger sister who she quickly rushed to and gave a bear hug.
"Umphf!Yang,can't...breath."Ruby said between breaths as she tried to pry herself away from her sister's embrace.
"Man,am I glad to see had me worried to death!"She spoke finnaly releasing her sister.
"I'm not a little kid Yang,besides all this island has is a few Beowolfs and Ursai,nothing I can't handle."Ruby stated a matter factly.
"Still though this island is a pretty shitty place to be holding a test,I mean my hair's all messed up because of this place!"She exclaimed as she gestured to her slightly dirty.
"Uh-huh,nice to see your hair takes more priority than me."Ruby spoke with a shake of her head.
"C'mon,I was only we have more important matters."
"We do?"
"Yes,you finally made some friends,good on you Ruby."Yang praised with a thumbs up.
Ruby merely glanced at the three behind her,Jaune and Ren desperately trying to stop Nora from jumping in the river.
"Yeah,I guess I did make some friends..."She mutterd as she came to the realisation.
She wondered if Keir also counted,they barley spoke but she's sure they could become good friends with time,however Yang did seem not seem to like the knight for some reason.
"Great,it's you."A familiar haughty voice reached her ear's as her eye's landed on the familiar figure of Weiss.
"Weiss...hi...you're looking fine?"Ruby blurted out,she wasn't sure exactly sure what to say to the older girl,they hadn't had the best first meeting,nor did they have the best second meeting,nor Ruby didn't want to make the fourth meeting unpleasant."Sooo, your weapon looks nice."
Yang nearly face palmed at her sister's word's,they couldn't be more just when she thought Ruby broke out of her shell by making some friend's.
The heiress merely huffed as she slightly glared at the girl.
"If you think simply complimenting Myrtenaster will win you my favour then you're dead wrong.I did not forget your incompetence at Beacon."The haughty heiress stated.
Ruby slightly shrunk beneath the glare and Yang prepared to step in but it seemed someone else had it covered.
"Still no time to be quarreling."Blake stated as she send a dull look to the heiress."Pyhrra and the other two already left to our campsite,I suggest we follow."She stated as she merely walked away.
Weiss merely huffed in slight annoyance as her attention went away from Ruby before she followed Blake.
Ruby slightly sighed as she turned to her sister.
"What's this about a campsite?"She asked.
"Oh right,I ran into that Blake girl and Pyrrha with my partner a little while got a pretty good place to set up camp,but all we got was a fire going so don't expect a five star service."Yang explained."C'mon let's get going,you should bring your friends along 'll come back later to get more water."
Ruby nodded as she turned to the three behind her.
"Hey guy's!I found my sister and her group,they said they got a campsite their going too we should follow."She stated as Ren spoke up.
"I suppose it would be in our best interest to find a place to get our bearings before we collect water."He noted as Nora heaved out a sigh.
"But the water is right their!"She whined."C'mon let's just take a sip and dip,then we'll refreshed."
"Nora,that water may look clean but it probably has countless germs in it from the various animal's on this island that drink from this would first need to somehow boil that water before we could even drink it."Ren explained to his friend.
"Man,gathering clean water is gonna be a choire."Jaune said as he heaved out a sigh.
"Less whining,we can think about it later,let's regroup with the other team Ruby met."Ren ordered as they went on their way.
*Time Skip*
"Whoa,this place is pretty spacious."Jaune mutterd as he stared at the large open patch of land that hugged a large cliff.
The patch itself was pretty large,you could fit 10 Deathstalker's in it,it was an ideal place to camp.
"That it is."Ren mutterd in agreement as his eye's scanned the area.
If they stayed near the cliff they could have a good view of the forest infront of them,if they took turns watching out for Grimm that might emerge from the forest they could succeed in this test without moving around too much.
But they still needed to contact Keir knows what happend to the knight.
"It's good to see you again Jaune."A new voice reached their ears as they turned to see Pyrrha approach them.
"Oh,Pyrrha right?"Jaune greeted as the red head smiled before she turned to Ren.
"We haven't been properly introduced yest,I'm Pyrrha Nikos."She said with a smile as she exented her hand in greeting.
Ren shook it as he noted the familiarity of her name,she was quite the famous individual afterall.
"Lie Ren,a pleasure."He said with a nod before releasing her hand."I take it you have gotten acquainted with Nora already."Ren spoke as he briefly glanced at the ginger haired girl annoying the violet haired girl.
"Yeah,she is quite the energetic person."She spoke with a slight laugh."But I'm glad so many student's managed to group up."
"You and me both."Jaune said with a sigh."My life nearly flashed before eye's multiple time's already when I was God I met say you haven't happend to see Keir anywhere,have you?"
It took a momment for Pyrrha to register the name but she soon noted it as the,student with the unusually bulking armor.
"Sorry,I hadn't seen him at all."She said apologetically.
"Eh,it's fine I'm sure he'll drop by sooner or later."Jaune said he stared towards the other group."But it's getting pretty dark so I guess we should get ready to sleep."
"Indeed,staying up too late would not be the best choice."Ren agreed.
"You got that right,we already started a fire so we can rest a while."Pyhrra said as she gestured them to follow.
They approached the rest of the group who sat around a large fire.
All busy with their own activities,Yang was trying to get the dirt out of her hair,Luna was checking her sniper and ammo,similiar to her Ruby checked and cleaned Crescent Rose,Blake read a book,Quinn sat leisurely and stared at the flame,Weiss just kept examining her fingernails as she tried to clear out the dirt beneath them and Nora layed on the ground sprawled out.
Jaune took a seat on the ground next to the Heiress,who sighed in slight annoyance upon noticing the familiar blonde.
"Fantastic,you're here as well."She spoke in a voice laced in sarcasm.
However Jaune ignored it as he started speaking.
"Sooo,pretty good night right?"He started.
"Yes,it was even better when you weren't next to me."She spoke with a scowl.
"Oh,cool,cool."And just like that the conversation died.
It was almost impressive how fast it ended.
Ren watched on as he slightly shook his head.
He hadn't known Jaune for long but he seemed to have interest in strang didn't exatly seem like the best person to start a friendship with.
But he noted how Pyrrha seemed almost intensely focused on the blonde boy,but he decieded not to question it.
Around the fire all was silent.
It was a good and brief momment of silence they all didn't know they needed.
They were mentally exhausted,having to navigate such a large Grimm invested forest had it's toll on one's mind.
So this momment of peace and quite was something definitely needed.
However that momment of silence was broken by Nora's loud voice.
"Man!That's one huge bird!"She exclaimed as she pointed at the sky.
Everyone's heads turned upwards to see what it was only to notice something in the distance plunging at them.
Most of them couldn't see well in the dark save for a few,so most assume it was a Grimm.
Shooting upwards they drew their weapons as the figure drew closer.
Finnaly it got close enough,and they could make out a human silhouette.
One which immediately collided with the ground hard enough to create a small crater and kick up a wall of dust.
Coughing slightly,Ren focused his eye's as he noticed the familiar figure of Keir faced first in the dirt ground.
"Holy Shit!Keir?"Jaune was the first to speak as he spotted the downed knight.
Soon the other's view cleared as they too spotted the knight.
Needless to say they were baffled as well as terrified,someone just collided with the ground with such force.
Looking at motionless knight they couldn't help but feel sick to their stomach's,someone actually died infront of them.
A good thing that the thought hadn't registers completely as the presumed corpse leisurely stood up and scanned the area.
"Hmm, will do nicely."Keir mutterd as he received various stares of utter bafflement.
"H-How the hell are you still alive!?"Yang was the first to speak up.
"Dunno luck I guess."He gave a vague answer as he scanned over everyone present.
He only knew a few people here,and he wasn't exactly sure what the other's fighting style implemented.
How was he suppose to create a strategy to kill the Chimera that's soon to be here?
Using magic was off the table,no reason to expose himself.
Keir fully turned to the group who still looked surprised.
"Nice landing Keir!But I'd give it a 6/10."Nora's voice reached his ears.
"Man,how are you even still alive?"Jaune questioned.
"No time to answer that."He said as he turned his attention to everyone."Listen in a minute or two,a Chimera will be here."
"Chimera?"Weiss quiestioned.
"Yeah,what is a Chiara?"Jaune asked somehow butchering the name to a large extent.
"It's a subspecies I believe."Ren noted as Keir nodded in affirmation.
"Oooh!I know that one,the huge lion with the goat head and snake tail."Nora spoke,sounding surpsingly exited despite the looming threat of the Chimera.
"Wait,if a subspecies is on the island shouldn't we contact the teacher's."Pyrrha interjected.
"We could,but the only way to do that would be to contact them throught the trackers on the we risk failing this test,it be better if we just kill it."Keir explained.
"That's easier said then done."Luna spoke up for the first time."Chimera's are known to tear through professional Huntsmen as if they were just mere you expect a bunch of trainess to beat one?"
"The threat of Chimera's are vastly this one is still young,it can't even breathe fire yet."Keir stated.
"Hold on,these thing's can breathe fire!?"Jaune quiestioned baffled
"Yep!Pretty awesome right?"Nora spoke up again as Jaune looked at her as if she were crazy.
"Hold we're actually going to fight this thing then do you have any knowledge on how we can actually kill it?"Blake spoke up again as focused on Keir."You atleast seem to be a bit knowledgeable on this Chimera."
"Well as you heard from Nora,the Chimera consist of three portions.A lion,goat and snake,however regardless of which link get's attacked the entire body will feel I won't lie to you all this Chimera is extremely fast,you all might end up seriously injured or worse fighting it."The group couldn't help but tense at the bluntness of the statement."But if you want to get going you should do that now,once a Chimera marks a target it won't stop till it kills said target."
Keir scanned over the group,some looked slightly agitated but nonetheless they didn't seem like they were going to run.
"Man I don't really know alot about this Chimera thing,but if we just let it go then it'll probably go after other students right?"Yang asked.
"That's right."Keir answered.
"Then that's enough reason for me to kill this Grimm."She stated with a smile as most of the other's seemed to agree with her.
"Blondies right,besides maybe we get some extra credit for killing this Grimm."Quinn spoke up for the first time with a grin.
Keir nodded once again scanned over all the members present.
Quinn,Luna,Ren,Nora,Jaune,Ruby,Yang,Weiss,Pyhrra,the girl named Blake and then there was him.
He couldn't think of any kind of strategy,he had barely seen any of them in action besides a few.
And not to mention Jaune was a liability here,it did not take a genius to figure out the boy had zero fighting his large aura reserves could come in handy.
Come to think of it everyone was a liability here,it would've been so much easier to just fight this Chimera alone,but now he had to ensure that a few brats didn't die during this test.
Perhaps there was a way to use magic subtlety.
"What rotten luck."He mutterd as he turned to a sound of disturbance.
Multiple trees in the distance were being mowed down as if something was running through them causing them to tumble,something large.
The group noticed this and tensed as they readied their weapons.
Loud thugs reverberated through the forest as the Chimera got closer and closer.
Eventually it burst through the final trees within it's path as in landed on the large clearing.
There it was,a lion conjoined with a goat and snake.
This particular Grimm might have seemed odd,were it not so terrifying.
It's towering figure was enough to intimidate even the bravest of men.
And looking at the group of Huntsmen and Huntresses in training it was easy to see that they were slightly terrified of the beast before,well there were some expectations.
The Chimera however did not care for the trainess,it's attention focused solely on Keir.
The lion head's eye seemed narrow in anger towards the knight,as if it were out for vengeance due to it's missing eye.
Letting out an earth shaking roar it charged at the knight.
The group scatterd about as the lions mouth opened to try and tear Keir to pieces.
Despite the armor Keir manage to leap high above the Chimera as he swiftly avoided the attempt on his life,quiclky landing on the Chimera's large body he unsheathed his blade as he brought in down onto the Chimera's main body impaling it.
It let out a shrill roar as it's body started thrashing about trying to shake off Keir.
However the knight would not fly off so easily.
The snake appendage hissed as it's mouth tried to grab at him,finnaly leaping off the Chimera with his blade he quickly spoke up addressing the group who looked somewhat surprised at the display.
"Heavy hitters focus on the lion,those quick on their feet take care of the snake,those primarily with range focus on the shield anyone who looks like they won't be abel to dodge an attack."Not waiting for them to quiestion his orders he quickly charged the Chimera as he drew it's attention away from the group.
"Great,who made him leader?"Yang whined.
"C'mon Yang there's no time for that let's do our job's!"Ruby scolded her sister who merely sighed as the group charged at the Chimera Grimm.
Dodging another charge from the Goat,Keir prepared to attack the lion head but someone else had it covered.
A large Maul collided with the lion's face,as well as a gauntleted fist that seemed to generated miniature explosions as soon as it made contact with the face.
The lion head staggered as it's whole body looked dazed.
Yang and Nora took stood besides Keir with their weapons ready as they stared down the Chimera.
"I still think you're an ass for that comment back at the club,but I guess it won't hurt to work together just this once."Yang commented as Keir merely glanced at her.
However a conversation would have to wait as the goat took the initiative of the body and prepared to charge at the three,however it was immediately stopped as heavy bullets pierced through it's face,courtesy of Luna and Quinn who provided support from behind.
The goat seemed to soak up the damage but was enable to attack due to it's body being restricted.
The snake appendage did not fair any better.
Having to deal with the unpredictable speed of Ruby,the vast agility of Blake and Ren,the versatility of Pyrrha and Weiss as well as having to deal with an impossible to hit Jaune,proved troublesome to the snake.
Ruby sped around in a zickzack pattern as she constantly striked at the snakes hard scales weakening it ever so and Blake striked with their blades as the snake focused on provided begrudgingly provided support from behind,primarily using dust with her semblance as she made sure to shield those who couldn't defend themselves,primarily the scales of the snake started to crack and weaken as Pyrrha noted an oppertunity.
Gripping her spear,she aimed at the weaken spot and with perfect accuracy she threw the spear.
It soared through the air as it embedded itself into the snakes weaken spot near it's neck.
Seizing the oppertunity Ren put away his weapons as charged at the snake,in an final attampt it tried to bite onto him with it's fangs but he merely leaped aside as the snakes head passed him.
Aiming his hand at the spear still embedded into it's neck he gave a strong palm strike at the end of the spear,causing it to shoot out the other end of the snakes neck.
The snake's body and barely attached head fell motionless,only moving due to the main body of the Chimera.
Back with the lion...
"And you're done!"Yang exclaimed as her punch landed on the lions lower jaw.
There's was enough force behind it to nearly shatter it's jaw.
It barley looked functional anymore,from all the blunt force trauma it recieved it's brains was in scrambles.
The Chimera was nearly finished,with the snake dead,and the goat finnaly dying due to the onslaught of bullets.
The lion was the only appendage left.
Or it *was* the only one left with.
With a grin Nora jumped to the lions eye level as she brought down her maul,it collided with the lion's remaining eye and sunk into it like quick sand.
The sensitive spot could not withstand the force as the maul dug deeper into it's face.
Pulling out her Maul Nora stepped back as she witnessed the Chimera fall over with a heavy thud.
It's body was litterd with injuries as though it were subjecated to torture.
Keir merely smirked behind his helmet in satisfaction,the poison had worked wonders.
You see,upon injuring the Chimera for the first time Keir had implemented a poison within it's body and you guessed it via magic.
The poison weaken the body significantly allowing for this easy kill.
As skilled as this group was,they would've been able to handle a Chimera with it's full strenght.
"You were worried abou this thing?Managing my hair is harder then killing this Grimm."Yang stated rather boldly as she looked at the large Chimera's corpse."But you ain't half bad in a fight tin head."
"You're not bad yourself."Keir merely replied as he ignored the apparent nickname.
Turning his attention to the group who all seemed to be examining the still present Chimera body,it made sense most of them probably hadn't seen one yet and this particular Grimm was quite bizarre.
But he couldn't help but feel that Beacon couldn't be this neglectful.
They should've properly examined this island before sending students on it to survive.
