Ch 20 Talking Some Sense

"Leo wait!" Donnie cried out, running out the lair door.

"What's goin' on here?" a voice asked. Splinter turned and saw Raph standing there along with Karai, April and Casey.

"Leonardo is gone," Splinter informed the others. "He said something about righting a wrong."

"Shit that idiot is gonna get himself killed," Raph grumbled as he pulled away from Karai and began to head to the lair door. But a stab of pain in his shell made him stop for a second. But that didn't last long and Raph quickly regained his composure and headed towards the door once again.

"Raph where ya goin'?" Casey asked, making his way towards his red masked friend.

"After Leo," came Raph's response as he reached for the door handle.

"That would not be wise Raphael," Splinter said, gently grabbing his second oldest son's arm. "You are still injured."

"Someone's gotta stop Leo from doin' somethin' stupid," Raph declared, pulling his arm away.

"Donatello has gone after Leonardo," Splinter informed Raph.

"I'll go too," Karai offered. "Leo might listen to me." Splinter looked at his daughter and nodded. Without another word Karai exited the lair, hoping she'd be able to talk some sense into her blue masked brother.

"I should go too," Raph declared.

"Raph do you honestly think Leo will listen to you?" April asked. "I mean think about it. If the situation was reversed would you listen to him?" Raph glared at his red headed friend but said nothing as he realized she was right.

"Fine," Raph said, crossing his arms. "I know when I'm beat."

"It'll be fine Raph," April said, putting her arm around her friend. "If anyone can talk some sense into Leo its Donnie."

"Yeah," Raph said softly. "I know. You're right April. I just..." Raph trailed off, not wanting to continue for fear of breaking down. "I'm gonna sit with Mikey," the red masked turtle declared.

"I will go with you my son," Splinter said, going over to assist his son.

"Thank Sensei," Raph said with a smile. With that the father and son went into Mikey's room while April and Casey went to the living room to wait for the others to return.

Meanwhile Donnie had caught up to Leo. "Leo just wait a minute!" the gap toothed turtle cried out, running in front of his oldest brother.

"Donnie move out of my way," Leo said, his voice having a slight edge to it.

"Leo where do you think you're going?" Donnie asked, crossing his arms. A painful tugging went through his shell and he winced.

"Are you ok Donnie?" Leo asked, the concern clear in his voice.

"I'm fine," Donnie said, sounding really irritated. "Actually I take that back. I'm not alright. I'm pretty ticked off right now."

"Why?" Leo asked, although he was pretty sure he already knew the answer to that.

"Because of you Leo!" Donnie cried out, causing Leo to jump slightly. By now Karai had caught up to her brothers. But the dark headed teen decided to stay back and let her brothers fight it out for now. So Karai watched from the shadows as Donnie continued his rant. "You're so Hell bent on getting revenge that you're forgetting why we're in this situation to begin with!"

"Donnie what are you..." Leo began. But he didn't get a chance to continue before Donnie cut him off.

"Mikey almost died Leo!" the genius turtle shouted. "He confronted the Shredder alone and nearly died in the process! And he did that so that you wouldn't get hurt! Mikey nearly died trying to protect you and now you're about to confront the Shredder alone and do the very thing Mikey has been trying so hard to prevent! And I'll be damned if I'm going to let that happen!"

"Donnie..." Leo began, his voice coming out very soft as he realized what his purple masked brother was saying was true. Then he let out a sigh. "You're right Donnie. I...I was about to do just that. I...I don't know what the Hell I was thinking. I...I just hate Shredder so much that it was blinding me. But I know you're right. If I do this then Mikey's sacrifice would have been for nothing. I won't do that to him. Or to any of you either." With that Leo turned and headed back towards to the lair. Donnie began to follow but a sharp pain from his shell quickly made him think twice. "Here Donnie," Leo said, putting his arm around his younger brother. "Let me help you."

"Thanks Leo," Donnie said with a slight smile. With that the two brothers headed back to the lair. Karai quickly ducked behind a wall so her brothers wouldn't see her as they walked past.

"Looks like I wasn't needed after all," Karai thought with a smile as she followed her brothers back to the lair.

A little while later everyone was back at the lair and they were in Mikey's room. April and Casey had gone home to be with their families. Mikey was once again awake and Donnie was checking him out. "Mikey can you squeeze my hand for me?" Donnie asked. Mikey nodded and squeezed Donnie's hand. "Good," Donnie said, as he pulled back the covers. "Can you wiggle your toes?" Mikey once again nodded and wiggled his toes. "Excellent," Donnie said with a smile. "Are you experiencing any pain?" Mikey nodded and indicated the trach. "Yeah I'll see about removing that," Donnie said, pressing a button that turned the machine off. "Let me know if you experience any difficulty breathing Mikey," Donnie said as he unhooked the tubes and removed the trach. Within seconds Mikey cleared his throat and began to cough.

"Drink this my son," Splinter said, helping Mikey sit up as Leo handed Splinter a glass of water.

"Small sips Mikey," Donnie said. Mikey nodded and slowly sipped the water. Once he had his fill Mikey leaned back on the pillows and looked at Leo and opened his mouth to speak "You'll only be able to whisper Mikey," Donnie said. "Your throat still has a lot of healing to do." Mikey once again nodded.

"You...ok Leo?" the orange masked turtle whispered.

"Yeah," Leo said with a smile. "I'm good Mikey. Especially since I know that you're going to be alright."

"Shredder..." Mikey whispered. "Did...he...get...away?"

"Unfortunately yes," Donnie said with a scowl.

"Yeah but don't you worry Mikey we'll get that bastard," Raph said, going over with the help of Karai, and sitting beside Mikey's bed.

"You...ok...Raph?" Mikey whispered, giving his red masked brother a concerned look.

"Yeah," Raph said with a smile. "It's just a cracked shell. It ain't nothin' I can't handle."

"Your...arm," Mikey whispered, pointing to the gauze that was on Raph's arm.

"That's nothin'," Raph said with a shrug.

"Yeah its just from where the needle was when he had to give you his blood," Donnie said.

"Shut up Donnie," Raph growled, not wanting Mikey to know he had given his his blood.

"Why'd...you...have...to...do...that?" Mikey asked. "Was...I...that...bad?"

"Yeah little brother you were," Leo said. "You almost died. In fact you did die a few times. But Donnie was able to bring you back."

"Whoa," Mikey whispered, his blue eyes wide.

"I think," Splinter said. "That we should discuss this later. Michelangelo needs his rest. And the rest of you do as well."

"Yes Master Splinter," the group said together as they stood. After bidding Mikey goodnight they went to their separate rooms.

"Leo...wait," Mikey called out. Leo stopped and looked at Mikey. "Will...you...stay...with...me?" Mikey asked. "Please?"

"Sure Mikey," Leo said with a smile as he climbed into the extra bed that was in the room. "I'll stay."

"Thanks...Leo," Mikey said, his voice barely audible.

"Love you little brother," Leo said as he turned out the light.

"Love...you...to," came Mikey's soft response. With that the two brothers closed their eyes to get some much needed sleep.
