"Pass me another marshmallow," a young Twoleg child said, and another Twoleg, this one was older then the other one. "Here, careful not to burn yourself," the older Twoleg gently scolded and the younger Twoleg nodded. "I won't mummy," the young girl promised while smiling brightly up at her mother.
Three Twolegs sat around a camp fire, the flames glowing faintly in the dark. A shiny, red monster rushed passed them and soon after it disappeared from sight, a cat with black and white fur and amber eyes, came out from the tall grass, followed by four other cats.
"This way, follow me." The black-and-white tomcat meowed, turning to the others behind him. "But Tallstar, what if the Twolegs see us?" A black tom with blue eyes spoke up, staring worriedly at the Twolegs who were nearby. "They won't, their night vision is to week." Tallstar replied, staring at the black tom.
"Tallstar? Why have we come here?" A dark gray furred molly spoke up as she carefully set her kit down on the ground. "We've been driven from every place we've tried to settle. Perhaps we can find some peace here." Tallstar replied, and the gray furred molly looked worriedly down at her kit.
"Peace? Here? With fire and Monsters? My son won't be safe. No one's kits will." She said, looking back up at Tallstar with worried eyes. "But we weren't safe at home, we couldn't protect ourselves from ShadowClan. Not even in our own camp." The black tom spoke up, answering the gray furred molly's uncertainty.
"Brokenstar and his warriors may still be hunting us." A small dark tortoiseshell molly spoke up in agreement with the black tom's statement. "Shhh, keep quiet." Tallstar suddenly shushed the others, as they ducked down. One of the Twolegs had turned and was staring out into the trees, the cats all held their breath as they waited.
"Huh?" The Twoleg child said, as she turned and stared out into the trees. "Is everything alright darling?" The older female Twoleg asked. "I thought I heard something." The young Child said, looking out into the dark forest where the trees casted long, dark shadows.
"Eww, Stupid cats! Pesky animals! Err! Get out of here!" One of the other Twolegs yelled, in a strange mix of grunts and growls. The gray furred molly ducked as something was thrown right over her head. "Are you alright, Ashfoot?" Tallstar asked the gray furred molly, who slowly nodded her head in response.
"I-I'm fine. But Tallstar, I fear for our safety here, what will we do? I can't smell any pray. We need food." Ashfoot fearfully replied, looking up at Tallstar with fearful eyes.
Tallstar sighed and patted Ashfoot on the head. "I know you're hungry, but, we're safer here then back in our old territory, or in the Twoleg fields or woods. Look around, even ShadowClan couldn't follow us here, there's no sent of dogs, and these Twolegs can hardly stand." Tallstar gently explained, then after a few moments of silence, he turned to the black tom.
"Deadfoot, take Onewhisker and see if you can find the Clan anything to eat. If there are Twolegs, there must be rats feasting on the scraps." Tallstar meowed to the black tom who nodded. "Yes sir. Onewhisker, let's go." And with that the two cats went to go look for any signs of rats to eat.
"Ugh! Rats? Ugh! Disgusting! That's no better then eating Crow-food." Ashfoot says, with disgust lacing her tone. The tortoiseshell molly spoke up after a few moments of silence.
"Eating rat meat is better then starving to death, isn't it?" The tortoiseshell molly asked, and Ashfoot sighed in defeat. "I suppose so," Ashfoot replied with a resigned sigh and a slight pout in her tone.
"We must find a new place to settle, Ashfoot. I'm set to pop any day now, and you don't see me complaining." The tortoiseshell molly said, giving Ashfoot a pointed look. It was then that Deadfoot and Onewhisker came running into the clearing.
"Tallstar, you were right. There are rat sets everywhere, and I think we found somewhere we can shelter for now." Deadfoot meowed, and Tallstar nodded. "Show us," Tallstar meowed, and Deadfoot lead them to a cave that had water rushing through it.
"Here, the water is fresh. We'll be able to drink it." Deadfoot meowed and Ashfoot spoke up, once she had set the kit in her mouth down on the ground.
"Ugh! Stay in there? We'll have wet paws day and night." She meowed, stiffening at the thought of getting wet paws. "I have already been inside, there's some space away from the stream. At least we'll be safe from Twolegs and Monsters," Deadfoot meowed, and Tallstar nodded in agreement.
"WindClan has traveled for long enough, it's been nearly a moon since ShadowClan drove us from our own territory. The weather is getting colder, and Leafbare will be here soon. We have no choice except to stay," Tallstar meowed, and with those final words, the WindClan cats headed inside of the cave to stay in until Leaf-bare had come and gone.
