Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Seeing through Hate. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto and a few others do.

Kaito was greeted by the door slowly sliding open. He wasn't surprised to see that it was Hanabi. The Hyuga heiress had yet to dress for bed currently, leaving her feet bare and her hair currently unbrushed.

"You can come in." Kaito stated, knowing she'd be doing so already. "Today has been a slow day, I believe. Not a lot to do at the moment and not a lot to focus on." Kaito added as the heiress entered a moment later, sliding the door shut.

"Father did not have much work for the staff today." Hanabi said as she slowly crossed the room. "How have you been? I've heard you've done half of the list for tomorrow." Hanabi added, pausing to let her words sink in.

Kaito nodded, he had sneaked a peek at tomorrow's list of chores they'd have to do. He had taken it upon himself to do some of that work, allowing him and some of the servants to sleep in early. It wasn't like they didn't need it considering how long the days could be and such.

"I did, I figured we could all use some more time to reflect." Kaito said before pausing to look over his shoulder at the woman. "I have a feeling this isn't the reason you're here, however. You're not very good at concealing your emotions." Kaito stated, brushing off his cloak at the moment.

Hanabi hummed and turned to Kaito who looked worn down. There were obvious signs of exhaustion weighing the man down, but he didn't seem to care. That was Kaito for you, he'd gladly give for others without seeming to give a damn about himself. A far cry from the awkwardly playful boy he used to be as a kid. It wasn't like he didn't have his reasons to be like that when it came down to it.

"Why are you throwing yourself into your work like this?" Kaito heard Hanabi question as she paused to sit down next to him. "Your nervous about something. I wish you'd just tell me why; it would help things if I knew what was troubling you." Hanabi added which got Kaito to sigh.

"Because you go back and forth between being mad, I don't care about the future." Kaito stated while he hummed. "And being upset when I care too much. The future of this clan isn't something I can decide, only you can… Right now? I can prove that I'm going to focus on what I can more than anything." Kaito said, running a hand over the desk Infront of him.

Hanabi was silent a moment as Kaito paused to rub at his eyes, curious about what his master and friend had to say. It wasn't like he didn't have his own thoughts, but that wasn't something he could decide. Kaito wasn't master of the Hyuga clan.

Hanabi paused to say something before a slight glint of light came through the window. Kaito blinked as did Hanabi before he noticed what it was. He moved almost in slow motion as the window exploded into glass.

"Hanabi, down!" Kaito yelled, pulling her along with him as both watched the object sail through the air.

A kunai, one that would have impaled Hanabi's skull if it had stayed there. Kaito blinked before both looked at the kunai.

"Lady Hyuga, you should stay…" Kaito started to say before Hanabi tugged her friend down.

"No, they'd be long gone by now." Hanabi said while she paused to look at the kunai that had been thrown at her head. "An assassin within the Hyuga Compound?" Hanabi said before her milky eyes widened.

If they had come for her? There was no doubt that they hadn't gone after her father. Hanabi straightened up and rushed out the door. Kaito followed behind, worried about what would happen to his friend if she went alone after this assassin. Not that she wasn't capable of defending herself.

"Assassin, there's been an attempt on Lady Hyuga!" Kaito yelled, putting the guards at alert.

"FATHER!" Hanabi screeched as she ran along the compound.

"Find the assassin!" The guards screeched as they ran around trying to find the murderer who had snuck into their compound.

Kaito blinked and swatted another kunai from the air. The blade shimmered as Kaito leapt up towards the rooftops at the moment. He was quite curious at the moment who would dare sneak into this place, who was crazy enough to break into the most dangerous compound in the entire city?

Then again? There were thousands of people who'd been ready for a fight here, eager to be the next top of the food chain and stake their claim on the city itself… And going after the family who had married the Hokage? That had been things that needed to be dealt with… And the assassin was just one more.
