Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Seeing through Hate. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto and a few others do.
Kaito was ticked, not at the assassin, not at the situation. At himself, this was HIS fault for letting the assassin get through to Hanabi. He looked around the room which seemed no larger than a local store, several medical ninjas were looking around the room.
"Are you alright?" Kaito questioned as he raised his eyebrow, curious as to how she was. "I'm so stupid, how could an assassin so easily slip into the compound?" Kaito asked as he sat down next to Hanabi.
The girl had several small cuts on her face, more from the shrapnel than any singular kunai. The family doctors and her father sat around her. Kaito heard someone was trying to contact her sister, he didn't know who or what it was.
"Kaito, we were both in the same room," Hanabi said as she did so. "There was not a single reason you could be seen as the problem," Hanabi said to which Kaito put a hand to his temples.
He was furious, Hanabi was aware of how furious Kaito was, he was supposed to protect her. If someone got by him? He'd be blaming himself; it was the most logical conclusion to make.
"You know this is more dangerous than you think," Kaito stated as he looked at her father. "I'm such an idiot. How could they have gotten past us?" Kaito asked, rubbing at his temples.
"Both of you were in the same room when this occurred?" Kaito heard from her father to which he nodded. "Hanabi? Did you see anything about the assassin that could identify himself?" Kaito also heard as he and Hanabi both shared a look with interest as they did so.
"Kaito, what about the kunai you captured from them?" Hanabi questioned to which Kaito nodded, pulling the weapon from his hip. "They had terrible aim, however. Father? Kaito DID protect me before you question him, he was inside the same room when the assassin tried to strike." Hanabi stated to which her father was silent.
Kaito was silent as well, that didn't soothe his mind. Someone working alongside the target could be easily bribed or such, they could be seen as an associate, a target spotter for the assassin.
However? Kaito watched her father's eyes close as he nodded, turning to Kaito.
"Of course, he would never. Kaito's family had served ours for many years." Her father added as Kaito passed the kunai to another sergeant. "If Kaito was within the same room as you? He'd be doing his job. If he wanted to kill you so badly? He'd have struck while you were off guard and alone… Kaito is no coward, he's fought with you enough for me to know that." Her father added as he retrieved the kunai from the servant in question.
Kaito took a seat next to Hanabi, the Hyuga heiress looked at him with a nod as the duo looked around the room. Kaito was quite curious as to WHAT the assassin stood to gain from this, it was clear that there was something that was unraveling before their eyes. Both were smart enough to know the clan had no shortage of enemies…. There was no shortage of villains who would gladly see the entire house burned to the ground, their bloodline extinguished at the end of the day.
"Damn them." Both heard as they turned towards Hanabi's father, their eyebrows raised in interest. "Kaito? Take my daughter to her room. I must speak with the others; this is dire information." Hanabi heard as both turned towards the door.
"At once," Kaito said as he slowly helped Hanabi to her feet and towards the door. "I will be with her if you need anything, my lord," Kaito said as both slowly left the room.
It vexed them both not knowing what her father had uncovered, what was it that was so dangerous to everyone else? A cult who used the eyes for some nefarious purpose? A rival house who wished to see them all dead? He did not know, but that wasn't their concern at the moment.
"It is not your fault when it came down to it," Hanabi added to which she cracked a smile at him. "There were plenty of possibilities for whom could have carried out this attack," Hanabi stated before both shared a look.
Kaito was unsure of what to say. There were plenty of people who wanted the clan dead, that was true, but there was still enough to keep it vague and that would hamper them far more than it had any reason to. She nodded to herself.
Kaito turned and wanted to walk towards the opposite end of the room, trying to gather his thoughts into coherent words. He still came up empty for several minutes.
Hanabi was unsure of what to say either, caught up in her thoughts currently.
