Chapter 19

Spock and L'hai walked through hangar one together. The siblings talked with one another in hushed tones.

"Are you sure that you want the two of us to leave Starfleet?" L'hai questioned, her brow slightly raised as she walked with her brother towards an older man that looked like their father.

"We don't have much of a choice, L'hai." Spock pointed out as they strolled coming to a stop behind their father who was standing with an older Vulcan woman. "Father."

"I am not our father. There are so few Vulcans left, we cannot afford to ignore each other." The elder Spock said, turning to look at the two younger Vulcans.

The woman also turned to face the two of them.

"Then why did you send Kirk aboard, when you alone could have explained the truth?" Spock questioned his brows pinching together.

"Because you needed each other. I could not deprive you of the revelation of all that you could accomplish together. Of a friendship, that would define you both, in ways you cannot yet realize."

"How did you persuade him to keep your secret?"

"He inferred that universe-ending paradoxes would ensue should he break his promise." The older L'hai said looking at the two of them, her lips quirking a little bit.

"You lied."

"Oh, I... I implied." The older Spock said his voice laced over with slight humor.

"A gamble that you wished to take," L'hai said, looking at the two older versions of themselves.

"An act of faith. One I hope that you will repeat in the future at Starfleet. You and your sister."

"In the face of extinction, it is only logical that I resign my Starfleet commission and help rebuild our race." Spock pointed out hoping that the older Spock.

"And yet, you can be in two places at once. You and L'hai can be at two places at once. I urge you to remain in Starfleet. I have already located a suitable planet on which to establish a Vulcan colony. Spock, in this case, do yourself a favor. Put aside logic. Do what feels right. Since my customary farewell would appear oddly self-serving, I shall simply say good luck."

"The older version of our brother is right, L'hai… the two of you must put logic aside. Stay in Starfleet. Spock and I can handle our affairs while you two continue on with Starfleet."

Spock and L'hai looked at one another.

"I think that this choice is the logical choice for us to make, Spock." L'hai said softly, offering her brother a small smile showing emotion for the first time to him.

Spock slowly nodded his head in agreement.

STARTREK

L'hai sat next to her brother as a hearing in the auditorium was held. Her eyes focused on Admiral Pike who was in a wheelchair after dealing with everything that he had been through.

"This assembly is called Captain James Tiberius Kirk. Your inspirational valor and supreme dedication to your comrades is in keeping with the highest traditions of service, and to reflect utmost credit to yourself, your crew, and the Federation, it is my honor to award you with this commendation. By Starfleet Order two-eight four five five, you are hereby directed to report to Admiral Pike, USS Enterprise, for duty as his relief." Barnett said, looking over at the young man who was now walking over to Admiral Pike.

"I relieve you, sir." Jim said firmly knowing that he had proved himself to the former captain of the Enterprise.

"I am relieved." Admiral Pike said with a smile.

"Thank you, sir."

"Congratulations, Captain. Your father would be proud."

"Perhaps brother." L'hai said, looking over at her elder brother. "We were wrong about James T. Kirk."

"Even though he cheated our test." Spock mused as he looked at his sister out of the corner of his eyes.

"Yes, perhaps we can be friends with him and perhaps our friendship with him will grow."

STARTREK

"Engineering thrusters and impulse engines at your command, sir." Sulu said, looking back at Jim.

"Weapons systems and chutes on standby," Chekov said with a smile.

"Dock control reports ready, Captain," Uhura said with a nod of her head as Jim came onto the bridge dressed up in his Captain uniform.

Jim looked over at Leonard who walked onto the deck with him. "Bones, buckle up." He then went to his comm. "Scotty how we doin'?"

"Dilithium chambers at maximum, Captain." Scotty's voice rang over the comm.

Jim sat down in the Captain's chair with a smile on his face. "Mister Sulu, prepare to engage thrusters."

Spock entered the bridge with L'hai following right behind him. "Permission to come aboard, Captain."

Jim turned his attention to the two siblings. "Permission granted."

"As you have yet to select a first officer, respectfully, I would like to submit my candidacy. Should you desire, I can provide character references." Spock said, looking at Jim hoping that he would allow him to be the first officer.

"It would be my honor, Commander. And Commander L'hai you'll be my second officer."

"I would be honored, Captain." L'hai said bowing her head slightly in thanks.

Jim turned his attention to Sulu. "Maneuvering thrusters, Mister Sulu."

"Thrusters on standby," Sulu confirmed holding his hand over the thruster to start them out onto the voyage that they would go on.

"Take us out."

"Aye aye, Captain."

Leonard let out a breath shaking his head. "Five years of this…"

L'hai looked over at Leonard. "Doctor McCoy, I am sure that we will do just fine."

Leonard looked over at the female vulcan. "You sound sure of that."

"It's the logical thing to do. I am sure that we'll be just fine. We have a very wonderful crew and even better medical staff." L'hai said, pointing out that he was a phenomenal doctor.

Leonard cleared his throat as his cheeks flushed. "I should head down to Medbay." He said before leaving the young vulcan woman.

Spock came over to his sister, clearing his throat.

L'hai looked over at her brother. "What?" She questioned rather innocently.

"Do you like him, L'hai?" Spock questioned his brows quirking a little bit.

L'hai cleared her throat. "He's a marvelous doctor, that's all."

"I'm sure it is more than that."

"Spock, don't start pushing your logic onto me." L'hai mused as she locked her brown eyes with his. "It's unbecoming."
