A chair hit the roof and broke in tiny pieces, while a big armor was trying to calm down the little blond boy that trew it. It took more than just a tackle to bring the small guy down, but the weight of the sturdy metal was enought to keep him somewhat still.

"Edward, breaking all the hospital furniture won't be of any help" a calm voice said from inside the armor

"Ok, just get off of me Al!" Edward answered from the floor

"Not until you promise you won't attack anyone and nothing else!" Al said

"I promise" said Edward with a faint voice "Now please stand up, you are crushing my lungs"

Al got up apologising, and managed to get Edward to sit down, but not to calm down his anger. They both were frustrated, and both didn't know how to react. The doctor that came out from the surgery room got ambushed by the two alchemists, and for a moment found himself trapped.

"Tell me, how did the surgery came out, TELL ME!" Edward said.

"The patient suffered a great blood lost" said the medic with a deep tone, "luckily the organs were almost intact, but we still don't assure anything"

"You mean that..." Alphonse couldn't end the phrase

"You don't know if Winry will survive" Edward whispered

The red coat touched the floor as Ed's last pice of strenght left him along with his hopes. A tear stained the floor, as his voice screaming 'Why?' stormed the hospital. The crawling silence of the hallway invaded as the scream echoed away, as if death was taking it's time to decide if the wounded girl lives or not.

White blankets covered the bed where the pale girl rested, her blond long tied up on the back of her head, and a cold metal hand grabbing her own. Ed couldn't find tears to give him relief, and his mind wouldn't stop feeling guilty.

"I shouldn't had left you come with us." he said slowly, "This is all my fault"

"No, it's not, Edward."

The door opened wide reveling the lieutenant Ross in her usual uniform, looking at Ed with her motherly eyes.

"There's noone to the blame." she continued

"What? You mean she had to suffer this?" Ed almost yelled

"No" she said calmly "I mean that noone could ever imagine this would happen"

"So then why is she liying there!"

Ross hugged him slowly "Don't get angry... this was her choice after all" she said calmly.

"Her... choice?" Ed dubted as he calmed down "What do you mean?"

"You are still very young, but you aren't a child anymore" her words whispered as her arms let him free, "you should know the answer"

Ed saw her back while she slowly closed the door, as her voice made a last statement that would stay floating in the still air of the room.

"After all, wouldn't you have done the same for her?"
