Two Ghosts, Two Families

Two fics in one day! Wow!

Part of the dialogue here belongs to my Ask HDAD Gacha Club blog, which is far ahead of my written works, but I'm hoping to catch up soon. For some reason, even though real life has been sucky right now, with my dad having a stroke and being stuck in quarantine after being exposed to my aunt that caught Covid even though she was vaccinated, writing has been a huge form of both comfort and escape for me. And since after just writing my first Hopes, Dreams, And DETERMINATION fic that was about Papyrus x Frisk, but mentioned the events that happened here, I got the urge to write about how Felicity and Benji got welcomed into their new families. I hope you guys enjoy!

...

Little Felicity sat on the couch sadly, watching as her fellow spirits walked by with their families, talking and laughing, Violet with her mother and her sister Mira, and Andrea with her fiance Neil and her parents. She was happy for them, glad they could get to see their families.

But she was all alone.

Her mommy, who she had waited so long for, had wanted so badly to get back to, had left her on the mountain on purpose because she didn't want her any more. Felicity had tried so, so hard to be a good girl, to be a big girl and take care of herself so Mommy would be proud, but nothing she had done had worked. Her mommy had still left her alone.

Officer Emerson and Miss Marianne and D- Mr. Asgore- had told her it wasn't her fault, that her mommy was just a bad person who couldn't take responsibility for a child. They had tried to explain what happened as gently as possible, but Felicity had still been very sad and ran away to cry. Papyrus, a very nice and cool skeleton, had found her, hugged her while she cried, and done cool bone tricks to make her feel better, and it had helped. He had visited her in the ghost village a lot, and there were a lot of people who visited her too, including Mr. Asgore, who would sit with her and Benji and tell her stories or just talk to her and tell her about how all the other monsters were doing like he once had when they were still just souls in a jar.

Mr. Asgore was so nice, so much nicer than her mommy had been, and Miss Toriel was too, but they had their own family.

They wouldn't want her.

Felicity looked down, tears in her eyes, not hearing as the door softly opened and not noticing the soft footsteps of the person who had entered until the couch dipped next to her and a warm furry arm slid around her shoulders. She looked up to see Mr. Asgore, wearing a short sleeve purple shirt and blue jeans instead of the kingly robes and crown he used to wear all the time, looking at her in concern.

"What is wrong, little one? Why are you crying?" he asked worriedly.

Felicity looked down with a soft sob. "I don't have a family any more. Mommy didn't want me, and now she's gone..." She hiccupped. "And I'm all alone."

She then flinched, worried Mr. Asgore would be mad at her for crying like her mommy always had been, but when she looked up into his eyes, they were filled with tears too. He hugged her close and Felicity snuggled up to him, feeling nice and warm in his arms. "Oh Felicity, I'm so sorry you had to go through all this. You did not deserve it." Mr. Asgore whispered. He rubbed her back gently. "But you are not alone any more, and you never will be again. You have all of us. We are all here for you, and you DO have a family." He smiled kindly through his own tears. "Toriel and I would very much like to adopt you, if you would like that too. We all love and care for you very much. We would be honored to have you as part of our family."

Felicity stared up at him in shock, her mouth hanging open. Mr. Asgore and Miss Toriel wanted her? They really wanted her? "R-Really? I can stay with you?" she whispered, hardly daring to believe it.

He smiled at her lovingly, in a way her mother never had. "Of course."

Felicity grinned widely, so happy her soul was glowing. She threw her spectral arms around him, and thanks to the ghost food and the training Napstablook and the other ghost monsters had given her to hold her form, they didn't just go straight through him. "I-I'd like that. I'd like that a lot." she whispered, the tears in her eyes now happy ones as she clung to her new dad.

Asgore held her close and stroked her hair. "Welcome to the family, Felicity."

"D- Mr. Asgore?" Felicity asked shyly.

"Yes, sweetheart?"

Felicity's soul warmed at this, but fidgeted nervously at the enormity of what she was about to ask. "D-Does this mean I can call you Dad?" she asked softly, then looked down, worried she had made him mad.

But when she looked up again, he was smiling widely, as if she had just given him the best gift. He stroked her hair reassuringly. "Of course, little one. I would be more than happy for you to call me Dad, and Toriel would love it if you called her Mom."

Felicity grinned, her eyes shining. "Thanks, Dad."

...

A few days later, another little ghost was waiting for someone special to come in. Little Benji sat quietly, watching as Mettaton was teaching Miss Toriel and Violet's mommy how to make a butterscotch-cinnamon pie that ghosts could eat too. His mommy and daddy were gone now, and he missed them a whole lot, more than anything, and he knew he'd never stop missing them. But everyone was so nice, and he had a whole lot of new friends, and they did everything they could to cheer him up.

The kitchen door suddenly banged open as a certain red haired fish lady strode through. Benji happily leapt to his feet and ran to his most favorite person in the whole wide world, after his mommy and Daddy. "Undyne!"

She laughed and scooped him up. "Hey, short stack!"

Benji snuggled into her arms. He loved Undyne. She was the best and coolest hero ever, and had even tried to save him when he drowned. She had come too late and hadn't succeeded, and it made her sad, but she had tried really hard anyway, and she was super nice. She had even told him he was a hero too when he told her about having come to the Underground to get a magic flower to cure his daddy's cancer.

And ever since the barrier had broken, she had come almost every day, just to see him and play with them. They had played cars, and she had taught him Undyne style cooking(though Mettaton had been really upset when she nearly set the stove on fire), and she had showed him all her cool attacks.

Benji wanted to be just like her.

She grinned and put him on her shoulder, giving him a noogie. "So how's it going?"

"Good! Mettaton's showing Mrs. Park and Mrs. Dreemurr how to bake ghost pies, and we're all going to have them later!" Benji told her happily.

"That's awesome." Undyne replied with her usual smile. "So since Mettaton unfairly banned me from using the stove..."

"It wasn't unfair! You nearly set both Blooky's and my house on fire!" Mettaton protested, overhearing.

"Keyword being "almost." Undyne retorted.

"Well, it wouldn't have been "almost," if Blooky hadn't found the fire extinguisher." Mettaton sighed. "Darling, I love presentation, but fake explosions are far better than real ones. Until you learn to cook safely, you're not cooking in my house. We don't need anyone getting hurt."

Undyne looked down. "...Fair enough. Sorry, Mettaton."

He relaxed at this. "It's quite all right, just be more careful, okay?"

Undyne nodded. "...I will." She looked ashamed and Benji hugged her to make her feel better.

"Now, why not take Benji to play while the pie cools?" Toriel suggested.

"All right." Undyne agreed, though seemed a bit weird around Toriel for some reason. She then looked to Benji, smiling. "So what would you like to do?"

"Can we build the big racetrack again?" Benji asked hopefully.

Undyne grinned. "Heck, yeah! Let's go!"

...

"Wow!" Benji said a half hour later as they put the finishing touches on their biggest and most ambitious race track yet. It went from the top of the stairs to the middle of the living room, with a giant ramp down the stairs, and not one, not two, but three loop de loops and another ramp that led up to one of the easy chairs, which had a paper target taped to it. "Undyne, this is our coolest track ever!"

"I know! The U & B Death Track is gonna be the most awesome, death defying track the invisible racers in our tiny cars will ever face! Ready to test it out?" Undyne asked and Benji nodded eagerly. They raced up the stairs and together, placed their first little Hot Wheel, a bright red race car, on the track. It zipped down the stairs and Undyne and Benji whooped as they thundered down the stairs after it, cheering as it went through all three loops and zipped up the ramp towards the chair.

At that exact second, Toriel stepped in with the finished ghost pie in her hands and Violet, Mrs. Park, Asgore, and Felicity behind her. "Pie's ready!" Toriel said cheerfully, just as the little car hit the chair at full speed, rebounded... and immediately flew at the group and landed right in the pie. Everyone just stood there in shock.

"...Perhaps we shouldn't have used such a bouncy chair as a target." Undyne admitted.

"UNDYNE!" Toriel scolded.

"Uh-oh! Run for it!" Undyne cried out dramatically, scooping up Benji and running out of the house.

Benji giggled in Undyne's arms as she raced into the backyard. "I don't think Miss Toriel was that mad, Undyne."

"I know, but I thought a dramatic exit would be funny." Undyne said with a grin as she set him down on a bench and sat down next to him, both of them looking up at the sparking crystals on the cavern ceiling.

Benji grinned up at his best friend. "Even if our race track messed up, I had a lot of fun today." He then looked down sadly. "I just wish you didn't have to ever leave. I like spending time with you, Undyne."

Undyne put a hand on his shoulder. "Well... what if I don't?" Benji looked up at her both happily and curiously. "I talked to Alphys about it, and we both agree. How about you come live with us?"

Benji's eyes shone. "Really?!"

Undyne grinned. "Really, really. You're a great kid, Benji. I'd love to have you as mine."

Benji hugged her tight. Undyne may not have been his first mommy, but he loved her a lot, and he knew his mommy and daddy would have too. "That would be so awesome! So I can stay with you, Undyne? Forever and ever?"

"Yep! Forever and ever." Undyne told him in a rare gentle voice, hugging him back happily.

Benji grinned up at her. "I love you, Undyne."

She ruffled his hair and gave him another big hug. "I love you too, kid."

He snuggled into her embrace, and in that day, two lonely souls who had been through so much finally found their true home with the people who may not have been related to them by blood, but were still their family through love.

The tale may have ended, but their adventures, they knew, were only beginning.

...

Fun Fact: Undyne and Benji's little Hot Wheel racetrack goof was loosely based on a Foxtrot comic I saw.

I hope this made you guys feel as warm and comforted reading it as I did writing it! Please review and let me know what you think!
