Chapter Three

Matt, Risa, Evie, and Brian were sitting on the couch in the lounge. The twin sisters were shaking their heads in disbelief.

"I don't believe this." Said Evie

"Jamie said that a witness saw me take the necklace!" said Risa

Matt nodded,

"But she's not convinced, that's why she called me and hasn't called the police." He said

"I didn't take that necklace, Matt," said Risa

"Oh, I know that." Said Matt with a wave of his hand, "The question is, who did?"

"Are there any suspects, besides Risa." Asked Brian

"Not that Jamie said that they were looking into." Replied Matt

"Then let's come up with some," said Risa, "If I'm going to clear my name we've got to start somewhere."

"Yeah," said Matt, "Okay what about Vera and Vanessa they were both there last night. And they both had reason to want to get back at Evie after she got Vanessa suspended. Maybe they did it through you Risa."

"That could be," said Evie nodding her head, "And if you can't clear your name by the end of the week you won't be about to compete in the county show jumping tournament with us."

"Effectively killing two birds with one stone." Nodded Risa

"Oh, and we can't forget that it could be any of the people that were back stage last night." Added Matt.

"Okay," said Evie, "Here's what I think we should do. Matt you and I will go back down to the arena and talk to some of the people in Jamie's entourage, Risa you and Brian see what you can find out from Vanessa and Vera."

"Right," said Brian

The group stood up and split up.

Matt and Evie hitched a ride into town with Red and headed for the Arena as soon as he dropped them off.

When they got to the arena, the first thing they noticed was that the guard and at the VIP entrance was gone. When they got inside, they found out why. Two uniformed officers and plain clothesman, that Matt guessed was a detective, were in the process of interviewing people."

Matt walked over to Jamie and pulled her aside.

"I thought you weren't going to call the police yet?!" he hissed in a half-whisper

"I didn't call the police," Replied Jamie, "Someone in my entourage went behind my back and called them."

"Do you know who?" asked Evie

Jamie shook her head.

Suddenly someone shouted,

"That's her!"

Jamie Matt and Evie looked up to see Justin, Jamie's boyfriend, pointing at Evie.

"She's come back to the scene of her crime!"

"So, he's the eyewitness." Said Evie.

"Hold it!" said Matt holding up his hands. When the cops started toward them, "This isn't your suspect, this is her twin sister!"

"Twin sister?" said the Detective, "As In identical twin?"

Evie nodded

The detective turned to Justin.

"If The girl you said you saw has a twin who looks identical to her how can you be sure who you saw?" he asked, "or that it was even either one of them, did you see the girl's face?"

"Well, not exactly," admitted Justin, "I just caught a glimpse of her coming out of Jamie's dressing room to go catch up with the others."

"My sister only went back to the dressing room to find her own necklace that had fallen off due to a bad clasp!" Explained Evie

"Or she made up that story so she could go back and steal Jamie's favorite necklace." Retorted Justin.

"My sister is neither a liar nor a thief!" Evie snapped back.

"You said yourself that you only caught a glimpse of the culprit coming out of Jamie's dressing room and let's face it, Evie and her sister don't exactly have an uncommon hair color," said Matt

"They're right," said the Detective, "Your description is sketchy at best, it's not enough to say for sure who it was."

Justin sat down on the couch.

"I know what I saw," he grumbled

Matt turned to Jamie.

"You didn't tell me that Justin was the eyewitness." He said

"You're not going to start this again." Said Jamie putting her hands on her hips and sounding a little annoyed. "You and Justin have never gotten along!"

"I don't want to fight with you, Jamie." Said Matt holding up his hands in surrender, "So no, I won't start this again."

"Come on, Matt," said Evie, "Let's go, this is not the time to interview anybody around here. Let's go see if Risa and Brian had any luck."
