"We'll find each other. We always find each other." She presses a gentle kiss to his cheek, closing her eyes to the sensation. He shifts his head, their lips a breath apart. Then they kiss, sweetly and passionately. He is hers and she is his. She is the one he loves and he is everything to her. A harsh noise reminds them where they are and what is their fate. She clings to him, not wanting to part from the bliss that she has once again found. They are jerked violently from their place on the dirty, concrete floor. They are being led to their execution, and she casts a dark look at their betrayer. They are shoved roughly against the hard surface of the wall, adding fresh bruises to the ones already discoloring their aching bodies.
Then their eyes lock, and all fear, all anxiety leaves them instantly. His eyes hold her future, her safety. She closes hers, knowing that they will never open again on this earth. But he is with her, and he is her strength. He is by her side, facing death with her. She hears bullets piercing their bodies, the burning metal destroying their flesh, but she feels no pain. The only thing that she is aware of is his presence. Then, a light unmatched by anything that she has ever witnessed overcomes her, blinding her, until suddenly she is aware that she can see.
She is overwhelmed by the swirling white veil of cloud that surrounds her. Then she sees herself in front of her. She reaches out, and her other being does the same, a pearly glow illuminating both of them. The other nods slightly, and then vanishes into the fog, and somehow, she knows that the part of her that will always belong to Danny is going to be with him.
The mist parts and she sees the man she had lived for, and now, died with. He bears the same sheen that is emanating from her skin, and a gentle smile graces his features. She runs to him and he encircles his arms around her, holding her tightly. He lifts her and twirls with her in his arms, their childlike laughter expanding in the white void. Their eyes meet again, and then their lips, crushing softly in a pure and adoring gesture. Their love no longer had to be denied or hidden. It filled them, engulfed them, and completed them.
From behind, a soft voice joyfully cries, "Mommy! Daddy!"
She
turns and sees a small toddler with copper brown hair and the bright
emerald eyes of the father she can finally be with. They look at the
little girl, recognizing her as their own, a child that had been
conceived through their devotion to each other, but had perished
before her life was made known to her parents. Her mother kneels and
welcomes her into her arms. "Emily." She whispers, knowing that
would have been her name. She stands, and they are both taken into
his arms, the divine embrace surpassing any earthly sensation. He
places a gentle kiss to each of their foreheads, whispering an
affirmation of his everlasting love for them. They had found each
other.
Fin.
Okay, it might seem morbid that the only way that they could be together was through death, but I prefer to think of if as eternal life with the Creator. Comments please!
