Chapter 6: Sleeping Beauty Awakens To The Scent Of Booze
(I will be writing in Australian slang and drunken-ese for Chu. I will put the translations for the slang~)
Kuwabara was trying to be rational. Half their team was injured; he lost; one was asleep; and while the masked fighter hadn't fought yet, the little guy only closed one eye when asked if he was up to fight. Kagome laughing wasn't helping but she was quick to shut up when the drunk demon summoned her onto the stage after tormenting Koto.
She noticed that everyone's attention was off her as she climbed on the stage and approached him cautiously--demon was one thing but drunk was quite another. "I'm just the replacement fighter. I can't fight yet if that's what you want to ask..."
"Nah, nah... yer jus' barrackin' fer yer team, eh? Awful sweet of yeh, sheila, bloody oath~! Bu'... 'at's not meh ques'ion..." He chuckled softly then looked around before waving her closer like he wanted to keep their talk private. "Yeh got ye'self a bloke, do ya?" He was sitting cross-legged on the ground, barely having to look up at her standing form.
Kagome looked at him blankly before shaking her head. "A bloke is like a boyfriend? No... I don't have one-- you're not trying to hit on me, are you?" The look of disgust was clear on her face but it didn't seem to bother the drunk man as he laughed boisterously.
"Bonzer~ but I'ma bit old ta be crackin' onta ya, girlie." He laughed some more before turning rather serious and appearing almost sober. "It's jus' I noticed somethin'... ya got somethin' sparkly on yah, a bit o' shine like tha's gotta be exy~ Bit gobsmacked that any bloke'd let you slip by without crackin' a fat in their daks, be a galah either way..."
Kage couldn't understand what this guy was going on about. "I understood none of that. What do you mean, sparkly?"
"I may have a gut full of piss but I c'n... I see the pink right there..." Chu pointed at the area above her left hip and she paled, covering the spot and shaking as painful memories plagued her mind. Her lips trembled as she tried to say something, anything. But before she could manage, a hand touched her shoulder.
"Waking up to the smell of booze... can't help but feel like I'm back home~" Yusuke moved to see her face and gently wiped away her tears as he smirked. "Enough with the waterworks, Kags. I'm up and ready to kick ass and take names. Figured I should start with this lush and then focus on the assholes in the stands."
Kagome took a deep breath to calm herself before telling him to wait for a moment. She jumped off the ring, holding the front of her skirt down, then started digging through her bag again. The stadium was full of confusing comments and Yusuke exchanged a look with Chu before she came back carrying two cans of tea.
"It's not much but you should get something in you, being asleep for almost a day without even a drink...or using the bathroom."
"Yeah, I'll be pissing like a racehorse later, I'm sure..." he laughed as he accepted the can.
She handed the other to Chu. "Figured you could use a drink too. It's not alcohol but I thought it would be rude to give him one and not you. You can have a toast to the final fight of our teams~"
He watched her with his dark eyes before immediately standing up and wrapping his strong arms around her. He picked her up as if she weighed nothing and nuzzled her cheek with a happy grin. "Aww, the sheila got me a prezzy~ How's abou' we go fer a drink after the match? We c'n rage all nigh' and have a great time!"
Koto apparently had had enough. "Fox fire!!" A flash of blue flames shot out--not hot at all but enough to make him drop Kagome out of surprise and fall onto his ass in his drunken stupor. Kagome's eyes shut for the inevitable pain in her tush but all she felt was a strong breeze and warm arms. The wind stopped and she found herself in Hiei's arms--until he dropped her unceremoniously onto the ground.
"Hey!" She carefully got up, rubbing her butt through the fabric of her kimono and skirt. Hiei's eyes glared at her as if he was upset...more so than usual.
"Stay here where we can protect you from yourself, miko. With all the trouble you attract, I am beginning to doubt your claims of surviving the warring states with only 2 humans, a half-demon, and a young kit to help you."
She crossed her arms and pouted. "...and a two-tailed cat demon."
"Alright, everyone!! Let's start the match! Team Rokuyukai's leader, Chu! Will face off against the no longer sleeping team leader, Yusuke!!"
