I LIED
DISCLAIMER
Supernatural belongs to the WB. References to "Bugs" and "Nightmares". Sam's POV.Written for the challenge of the boys having Max's childhood. However, seeing how I actually kinda like the dude, I'm unable to write a multi-chapter abusive John Winchester, so this is just a one-shot. Yeah, realistically, Dean probably would've noticed, but in "Bugs", Sam did indicate that John was different with each of the boys and Dean had looked at him in confusion.
I lied. I lied to Dean. I told him that we were lucky to have Dad. That if he had drank a little more and we had done a little less hunting, we would've had Max's childhood. The truth was, I had had Max's childhood. Dad would hit me, not bad enough to leave marks, but pretty hard. I commented on it when we went to help Matt White's family out, but he just seemed confused. After that, I didn't mention it again. And then, I met Max. Sitting there, listening to what his father and uncle had done to him. And his stupid stepmother---she hadn't even tried to help him. But I had follow Dean's lead and save her. And he just wanted to kill Max. For what? For getting revenge? For having the childhood I had? At least, the life I had had until I was thirteen, that is. We had gone on a hunt---a werewolf, I think---and it had pinned me down. And I had told it to kill me. That dying would be better than going back to my sorry life. And that's when Dad's abuse had stopped. When he realized that I would rather be killed by a werewolf than to endure what he was doing to me. So he cut back even more on the drinks, took us out on more hunts. As if that could make it all right. As if hunting could make make me forgot the abuse. Dean's the lucky one. He was never hit by Dad. Never shoved up against a wall, never told to shut his mouth or have it shut for him. He idolizes Dad. So I lied. Lied and said that we were lucky to have him. Lucky to go on hunts. And he'll never know. He'll never know that I sometimes fear finding Dad again. Why? Because I lied. I lied to Dean.
THE END
