LIGHT & DARK

After dancing a little more, Yuki looked at Hikari.

"Hikari?" asked Yuki.

"Yeah?" asked Hikari.

"Please don't think me rude, but I'd like to check back with my friends real quick." said Yuki. "I'll be right back. I promise."

"I'll hold you to it." Hikari said with a smile.

Yuki walked over to her friends and noticed Sarena crying, Misaki hugging and comforting her.

"Is she-" Yuki began.

Yuki's other friend, the border collie, motioned for her to follow her, so she did, being led to the restroom.

"What happened to Mrs. Gazelle?" asked Yuki.

"Some guy murdered her." said her friend. "He sent some sound clip admitting he did it with her phone. Then sent a very graphic picture of her body. It looked like she'd also been raped."
Yuki sighed.

"We should really take Sarena home." she said.

"Yeah." said the border collie. "Listen, if Misaki still thinks you should enjoy yourself, please be careful."

"Alright." said Yuki.

After further talk with Misaki, Yuki joined Hikari again.

"If I were to investigate you, would I be alarmed?" asked Yuki.

"Very unlikely." said Hikari. "One of my philosophies is that the truth always comes out, either by your own admittance, or by someone else discovering it over time. Therefore, I only find worth in speaking the truth, and truth be told, you would find things like traffic violations... I try not to drive while under the influence anymore... Even if sometimes, I may still fail."

Yuki giggled.

"Well... if you'd like... we could rent a room and... talk about it..." she said.

"Oh, so you DO like me that much..." Hikari teased. "I was starting to wonder with all these mixed signals."

"Then we better go while the signal's still green." said Yuki.

Hikari chuckled.

"Alright." he said. "Let's get out of here."

As they walked out the door, Melon walked over to them.

"Well, well..." he said. "Aren't you two just a cute couple? Where ya going? Off to make hybrid children? Quite selfish, if I must have an opinion. I should end you right here and now..." he said and pulled a pistol on Yuki. He then heard a bunch of guns from the shadows. Several animals walk out of the shadows, guns all aimed at Melon.

"Times have changed, old man." said Hikari. "You'd do well to be careful."

Melon put his pistol down.

"Guess fate likes the three of us today, huh?" he asked and put his pistol away.

"We'll see." said Hikari.

Melon walked away, whistling as Hikari turned to the others.

"Watch him closely." he said. "I want a report on my desk by tomorrow morning."

"Yessir." said an alligator in a black suit and bowed.

"Good evening, gentlemen." said Hikari and bowed. The others bowed as well. They hear a car speeding off as they approach Hikari's car, a black Mercedes-Benz. Hikari opened the door for Yuki.

"Right this way." said Hikari.

"I feel like I misjudged you, Mr. Graywolf." said Yuki and got in.

"I'm not offended." said Hikari and got in. "Tokyo hasn't exactly been known for selfless organizations." he said and started the car.

"Who was that guy?" asked Yuki as they drove off.

"Not sure." said Hikari. "But he seemed quite dangerous. Gonna have my men look into his background to make sure."

"What are you going to do if you find bad things in his past?" asked Yuki.

Hikari looked at Yuki for a brief moment, before turning his attention back to the road.

"You're going to kill him, aren't you?" asked Yuki.

Hikari sighed, before speaking.

"Assuming, of course, I do end up finding something..." began Hikari. "If you knew someone did something so horrible, there was no chance in Hell they could ever be redeemed, what would you do?"

"I suppose..." Yuki began. "I would consider doing the same."

"All in the name of peace." said Hikari.

"I apologize for the... interrogation." said Yuki. "Everything you're doing seems to be for good. I really don't have the right."

"It's normal." said Hikari. "I'd imagine there'd be something wrong with you if you weren't scared right now."

Yuki put her hand on Hikari's leg.

"So... would a hotel do?" asked Hikari.

"Yes." said Yuki and smiled.

"Yes, ma'am." said Hikari with a smile as he turned up the radio, which played Adult Education by Hall & Oates.

Meanwhile, at Golden Manor. Melon's Dodge pulled up near the front door, then he got out and looked at the door with a smile.

"Golden Manor." Melon thought. "Home of Zatara & Ven Golden, a golden retriever couple... until I killed them, that is. That day still turns me on... Indeed...
