"I'm leaving."

"Your what?" Catherine Willows paused with her fork halfway to her mouth, utterly confused.

"I applied for a job as night-shift supervisor in Honolulu and was accepted," Grissom sighed as he saw the look on her face, this was going to be harder than he thought, "I need a change, I'm sick of all the office politics in Vegas."

Catherine put down her fork, brows furrowed, "Gil…wherever you go there will be office politics."

"Maybe, but Vegas is the second-best lab in the country, so the political side of things is somewhat greater." He reasoned in his Grissom-type way, "I wanted to let you know first, I'm telling the rest of the team tomorrow."

Catherine shrugged her shoulder and looked at him in desperation, she knew better than anyone that once Grissom made up his mind, there was no changing it. However, she couldn't think of coming to the lab and not seeing him anymore. Sure, she called him a friend, but he was so much more than that. Not in a romantic way, but in a way that's pretty much impossible to put into words. She sighed, and continued to eat the eggs she had ordered for breakfast. It was pretty obvious to her now why Grissom had invited her out to eat after shift.

The meal continued, quite awkwardly, and before they knew it they were each standing outside their own cars, ready to head home.

"See you at work tomorrow." Grissom called to her before driving off.

Catherine stood for a moment, thinking about how the rest of the team would take this news, "Yeah…see you." She muttered under her breath as she got in her car.
