Beloved, Beloved, Beloved
A/n: Hey, guys…I've been in love with this movie since the day it made me cry when I saw it in the theater. And I've wanted to write a story, or something, for it for so long…but had never been able to complete one. Now I have. This flows in a strange way, just to foreworn you…not really like anything I've written before, style wise. I'm just happy I finally wrote something for the movie. I'm working on another one, as well. So, maybe I'll post that one soon.
Oh, and please, tell me what you think! It would be most appreciated.
One more thing: instead of saying Dear Wife-Dear Mother on Winnie's headstone, we're going to pretend it said Beloved Wife-Beloved Mother, okay? Okay.
Disclaimer: I own nothing Tuck Everlasting whatsoever.
Jesse Tuck fell to his knees in front of Winnie's head stone. He ran his weathered hand over the words inscribed in the gray marble, and closed his eyes. Those five words told the whole story of Winnie's life while he'd been gone. Jackson, Beloved Wife, Beloved Mother...
And also told him that he was a year too late in returning to her. If only he had come last year...he would have been able to say good-bye. Tell her how sorry he was that he'd taken so long. She would have known that he hadn't lied, that he'd really come back for her...
Now she never would.
Jackson, Beloved Wife, Beloved Mother...
All these years, Jesse had wondered what had become of his first love. Had she stayed in Treegap to wait for him, or figured it to be too dangerous, and moved on? And if so, then how would he ever find her? There hadn't been a minute where he had doubted that she had drunk from the spring. Maybe there should have been.
Winnie may be dead now, but he had an answer to what had become of her, finally, after all these years, thanks to those few words...
Jackson, Beloved Wife, Beloved Mother...
She had taken another man's name, married him, had children with him, and lived a long, happy life...and she had been loved. That helped ease the guilt. She hadn't been alone. She had been loved. All he had wished for Winnie was happiness, even though he may have been selfish in assuming it would be with him, and only him...
Jackson...
She had built a life with this man, instead of him. It was his own fault.
Beloved wife...
He had loved her, just like Jesse had. She deserved that.
Beloved mother...
They had had children together. She had been a good mother. There was still a part of Winnie left on this Earth. She would never really be gone.
1899-1999...
She had been here a long time, in Treegap. It had taken him all those years to come back to her, but she had been here, waiting for him, all those years. A part of her had always waited for him, he could feel it...
Wife, mother...
She had created a life for herself, lived. Lived for herself and for him, in a way he never could...and she'd been happy. She'd never stopped being the radiant and smiling Winnie he had fallen in love with. He looked up toward the heavens. That's all he needed to know to finally let her go...
Beloved, beloved, beloved...
Winnie would always remain beloved.
A/n: Sooo, how badly did it suck? I may re-do it some time, and hopefully it'll be better.
