You were suspended. You weren't mad or anything - punching someone was a serious problem.

Later, you found out that Kokoro's nose had been broken. You chuckled to yourself. Of course, you felt sympathy for her, but this girl had ruined your life in middle school. You almost died several times because of her.

Luckily, Bokuto, Akaashi, Kenma, and even Kuroo kept you company by texting. Kenma had the best memes but he was a dry texter - probably because he was on his Switch so much.

Akaashi was also a dry texter, but the way he texted was like talking to a mother. He'd use perfect punctuation and it'd take forever for him to respond.

Bokuto and Kuroo were completely different. They texted all day, even during class.

Your parents were on a business trip. They kinda forgot about you at this point, but you didn't mind. You had yourself! You were a smart person! You could be independent.

Your phone buzzed.

when is it and where

You wrote the date down in your phone's calendar.

Soon enough, the day came. You hurried out of your house with your phone and wallet in your hands.

You passed Mel's Diner and Cafe, passing streets and looking around. As you made your way to Fukurodani's gym, you checked the weather.

You stared down at the weather prediction.

Thunderstorms.

While you enjoyed the rain very much, you did not like thunder.

You thought of yourself as a bad bitch - and you were. After all, you were strong, smart, and confident. But thunderstorms were one of your greatest fears. And you didn't want to let anyone see you scared. Or see you cry.

You trotted into the gym and looked around. Bokuto was stretching and you had to admit - he looked amazing in his jersey. It hugged his body, flaunting his chest and biceps. Your eyes drifted down. "Cake." You whispered.

You took a big breath and shouted. "BOKUTOOOOOO!"

He turned his head and ran towards you. "You came!" He exclaimed. You smiled and held your arms out for him to hug you. He embraced you and squeezed you tight, burying his face in your hair.

AHHH SHARKS WHAT THE FUCK

He pulled away and kept his hands on your shoulders. "Are you ready to see me be the best ace ever?!" He asked, trying to get you as pumped up as he was. You hopped up a bit and nodded excitedly.

"Yeah!" You shouted. "Wipe the floor with them!"

"Bokuto-san," Akaashi called.

"You'd better cheer extra loud for me. I wanna hear you, Ame-san!" He called as he jogged back to his team. You silently promised to scream and shout as loud as you could for Bokuto to give the other team hell.

"Thanks for coming, Y/n," Akaashi said. You smiled and nodded.

You found a seat in the bleachers and watched intensely, putting all of your focus on Bokuto and Akaashi.

It had been an hour since the game started. Your throat hurt from shouting and cheering.

Bokuto was tired. He was sweating profusely and breathing heavily. The entire team was.

"HEEEEEEY!" You shouted. The ace looked at you.

"I'LL MAKE US MATCHING FLOWER BRACELETS IF YOU KEEP GOING, BO! I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS!"

Everyone else looked at you quizzically, but Bokuto just pumped his fists up in the air and yelled "HEY HEY HEEEEEEY!"

You grinned at his enthusiasm. He repeated his phrase and some of the team said it, too. Then, they all shouted in unison, "HEY HEY HEEEEEY!!"

For the first time, you looked at the other team. Karasuno, was it? Ah, yes. You'd played against the girl's team before. They were very strong and their ace was enthusiastic - it was inspiring.

That number 10... Your eyes rested on his small body. That ginger hair. Number 10 jumped.

"Hinata!" You exclaimed. He didn't hear you, but you realized exactly who he was. You were almost brought to tears. Your old friend was there! Where you were! The one friend you had in middle school was here!

The game ended quickly. Fukurodani won! You ran down the bleachers and waited in the hallway outside of the locker room.

The locker room door opened and Bokuto walked out triumphantly. "BO!" You ran to him and hugged him. You didn't even care if he was sweating; you wanted to congratulate your friend.

"AME-SAN!" He picked you up and hugged you, swinging you around. "Thanks for cheering for me!"

That feeling that you had in the first hug came back. You held onto him tight; this time, you knew that you didn't want to let go.

He smelled like the beach again. He must've reapplied some deodorant after the game. Sure, he still smelled like a sweaty teenage boy, but you could smell the beach. You smiled as you realized - Bokuto was like a beach to you - a paradise. His sunny bright smile made your day. His emotions were like waves; crashing into you at the least expected moment and changing your life. He seemed to be changing everything around you.

But you liked it.

You wanted the soft, sandy skin on his hands to hold yours.

What the heck am I thinking?! No, I don't wanna hold hands with him! that's weird

well I mean, I kind of do.

AS FRIENDS

yeah, just friends.

maybe best friends?

That's probably what this is. I just want him to be my best friend!

When he finally pulled away, you laughed and scratched the back of your head. "Yeah, I guess I had to uh, show some sportsmanship for my competition."

"Aww, don't lie, you were rooting for me!" He grinned. "I saw how hopeful your eyes were!"

You pushed him playfully. "Shut up, you couldn't even see my eyes from where you were!"

"Just admit it, you probably liked watching my awesome moves!"

"No way-"

BAM! CLAP!

You jumped and screeched a bit. Bokuto gasped at your reaction. "Ame-san?" He called.

You stared at him with wide eyes. "Uh... yeah..?"

"You're scared of thunder?" He questioned.

"No! Of course not!" You shouted.

"Yes, you are! Aww, my little Ame-san is scared of thunder!"

You blushed at the name. My little Ame-san? MY? Does he even realize what he's doing?!

"No! I'm not scared of thunder! And I'm not yours!" You insisted.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone." You saw a flash of lightning and flinched when the crash of thunder sounded.

"Ame-san!" He called. You looked at him, trying to hide your fear.

"You can walk home with me. Akaashi is coming too. We'll protect you, I promise!" He exclaimed.

You hated to admit it, but you melted at his words. He made your knees weak and it made you feel strange.

What in the world is happening with me??? I hate it. I hate how I feel right now! Why are my hands getting sweaty?!

Okay, calm down. Bokuto is my friend. I'm probably just freaking out because I'm scared of the thunder.

NO! I'm not scared of the thunder. I'm just a bit startled.

You nodded and Bokuto looked around. "Did you bring a jacket?" He asked. You shook your head, saying no.

He reached in his gym bag and pulled out his Fukurodani Volleyball jacket. You, being the main character of this shojo-like scene thought he was giving you his jacket. You were wrong. Well, half wrong.

He put his jacket on and pulled you close to him, then leaned down so that he was at your height. His jacket was squeezed around you, so your shoulders and arms were touching.

Bokuto started walking, and you were practically forced to walk with him. The two of you looked ridiculous sharing one jacket, but you were warm. "So, Akaashi is going to be at my house late because he has to get some stuff for a sleepover." He tried to make small talk to distract you from the storm above.

"Okay..."

Bokuto didn't like seeing you like this. He liked competing with you and joking with you. But now, when your small, shaking figure was squeezed against him, he realized that he needed to cheer you up. No - he needed to protect you.

BAM!

"Ah!" You squeezed your eyes shut. A tear fell from them and Bokuto stopped walking.

"NO!" He shouted, looking up at the sky. "STOP SCARING HER, OR ELSE YOU'LL HAVE TO DEAL WITH ME!"

You slowly opened your eyes and listened to Bokuto screaming at the sky.

"What are you doing..?" You asked.

"I told you that I'd protect you, didn't I? So stay close, Ame-san."

You giggled a bit and wrapped your arms around him. Every time lightning struck and thunder followed, Bokuto would scream back at the sky, telling it to quiet down.

Eventually, you made it to his house. A small, heavy woman you assumed was his mother opened the door.

"Kotaro, how was the ga- Who's this?" She asked.
