A/N: This is for the 5 drabbles prompt 'the sun was starting to set' for the Dean/Seamus set. Mentions death and war but nothing graphic.
Dean held his boyfriends hand tightly. He was afraid that if he would let go then he would disappear like so many other people had.
They were stood at the top of one of the only towers which remained unbroken and looked over the school grounds.
The sun was just starting to set and the devastation below would soon be blanketed in darkness.
Somehow, both of them had managed to survive the battle last night when many of their friends had fallen.
This was the first time they had spent alone since the news that the Ministry had fallen. It wasn't exactly how either of them thought the reunion would go, but at least they had one.
"I'm glad you're okay," Seamus said.
His face was still swollen and bruised, and his lip was split from the beating he received a few days ago.
"I'm glad you're okay too," Dean said back.
He tried to keep his emotions in check, but now he was able to relax and think about everything they came pouring out.
Tears of both grief and relief streamed down his face.
Seamus gently pulled him into a hug and they stayed like that for a long while. The warmth of another person brought an overwhelming amount of comfort.
Pulling away slightly, Dean said whilst sniffling, "I should be the one to comfort you."
"Don't be silly," Seamus said. "We need to comfort each other. We've both been through some shot this year. You more than me I think."
Dean laughed through his remaining tears and said, "I suppose you're right."
"You know I am."
The evening air was turning cooler and they would need to go in soon.
The day had been as bright and fair as the best summers day, but the night promised to be as cold as the depths of winter. It seemed as if Mother Nature herself was divided on being joyous that the war was over and saddened by the cruelty and death.
It was a feeling that was shared by many people including the reunited lovers.
