As the sun began to set over the area, Kate felt she would go see her mother and spend a little bit of time with her before turning in for the night. As the golden Alpha reached her mother's den, she picked up the scent of another male inside. Kate, being very cautious, got down on her stomach and crawled into the den, careful not to make a sound.
Once inside, she was met with a shocking sight.
There in front of her was King, kissing her mother.
After a few more minutes Eve was the one to break the kiss, giggling as King tried to kiss her again.
"Stop, King," she said. "Do you want my daughter and son-in-law to find out about us?"
"You still haven't told them about us?" King asked as he sat down. Eve shook her head, causing a sorrowful expression to form on King's face.
"They need to know that we are in love," he told her.
My mom and King are in love?! Kate thought, eyes wide from whats he had just heard.
Was her mother cheating on her father?
Now, any other wolf who caught their mother with another male would have gone in and driven them away, but not Kate. She was smart. She was going to learn all she could about this revelation.
"Yes, I know we need to tell them, but how am I going to be able to tell them that Winston is dying?" Eve asked King, worried that there would be a huge falling out among the family.
"What will your daughter and son-in-law think?"
"Terra and Sam will understand, so will your family," King said, then kissed Eve with a burning passion. When he pulled out of the kiss, King then added.
"Because, I think Anna and Runt are going to be getting together real soon."
A small smile grew on a Eve's face. It was a clear to her that her youngest grandpup was growing up faster then one could have guessed. Eve thought back to the time when Runt came to ask her about girls since Kate was out hunting. He had seemed so shy, so embarrassed to ask her these questions, but Eve had answered them.
"Eve, we need to tell them tonight," King said bringing Eve back to the present.
Eve looked up at King. She nodded.
"Yes, we will tell them tonight."
And to seal the deal, she pulled King into one more kiss, but Kate had seen and heard enough.
"You should have told us this before we left, mom!" Kate growled storming into the den.
"Kate! What are you doing here?" Eve gasped pulling away from King.
"I came to see you, but instead I find out that you have been messing around with King while dad is dying."
"Kate, listen to me," King said trying to calm Kate down. "We wanted to tell you, but-"
"Quite!" Kate shouted at King. Turning to Eve, Kate looked at her mother.
"Tell me the truth about dad and why you couldn't even wait for him to pass before trying to hook up with King."
Eve felt her heart breaking at seeing how upset and angry Kate was with her. And she couldn't blame her for this attitude, after all, Winston was a very special wolf. He had been there since the birth of Kate, helped train Kate during her time in Alpha school, and when Kate and Humphrey confessed their love for each other, Winston went so far as to abolish pack law.
It was time for Eve to come out of her shell and be honest with her daughter.
Meanwhile, Runt was out walking with Anna. The two teens were enjoying each others company. As they walked, Runt looked over at Anna. To him, she was the most beautiful girl he had ever met. Anna was kind like his Aunt Lilly, brave like her mother Terra, and had a real nice body like his mom Kate. As he admired Anna, the young Omega ended up tripping over a rock.
"Yikes!" Runt exclaimed as he fell over onto his back.
"Need a little help Runt?" Anna asked him with a giggle. Runt shook his head and got back up.
"No, I'm fine, Anna ," he said. Just then something caught his eye, a black figure of a wolf with red eyes floated by.
"Anna, did you see that?" Runt asked, only to see Anna shaking in complete fear.
"Anna?" Runt whispered. "Are you alright?"
Anna stood there, her wide eyes filling with tears.
"It can't be him, my grandfather killed him!"
"Him? Who's him?" Runt asked, but he really didn't want to know.
Finally, Anna said,
"Cain. The Dark Wolf who tried to take mom as his bride. Threatened to kill me, my father, grandfather, and my friends."
"Cain was that bad?"
"Hell yeah I was, Runt," Cain boasted with pride as he appeared before the two Omega teens. Looking at Anna, his red eyes glowed bright.
"You don't know how long I have waited for revenge. I guess I'll start with you two," he growled.
Anna and Runt felt their bodies become stiff as they were paralyzed by the Cain's power. With a dark smile, Cain once again took the form of a mortal wolf and walked behind Anna. Runt watched helplessly as Cain began to move his snout under her tail and sniff at her virgin entrance.
"You smell just like your mother," Cain smiled and proceeded to give her a quick lick. Seeing Anna shudder at his touch made the Dark Wolf enjoy the moment even more. Cain knew she could feel everything he did to her, but she couldn't move. Her body was under his control. When Cain was done with her, he set his sights on Runt.
Runt was then shocked to see Hench show up. Both Cain and Hench smiled as they walked up to him. Anna watched as Hench took Runt and began biting and clawing at his sides. As he did that, Cain used his power to break Runts back legs. The sound of his bones breaking made this torture even worse. After that, Hench walked up to Anna and smacked her across the face. The torture went on for a few more minutes, before Cain stopped it. His red eyes were fixed on the wounded Omega, before he turned toward Anna and smiled.
"I think you two should stay a little longer… Let's say, until midnight tomorrow night." And with that, the Dark Wolf transformed into a spitting image of Humphrey.
Back in the pack, Terra and Sam were getting ready to turn in for the night when Humphrey walked in.
"Humphrey, what brings you here tonight?" Samuel asked.
"Just wanted to let you know that Anna wanted to spend the night with Kate and I," he said giving Sam a friendly, but at the same time, offsetting smile.
Terra, catching onto to this, looked at Humphrey and already knew in her heart that this Humphrey was a fake. The beautiful Alpha could see three things that was off about him.
First: he was staring at her as if he wanted her.
Second: this Humphrey walked like an alpha.
And third: it was what he said to her before leaving.
"In the dark of the night you will never forget me, Princess." Humphrey smiled as he left.
Terra could only think of one wolf who had said that so many times in her dreams...
Cain!
He had somehow found a way to return to the land of the living and now he had taken her daughter. Rushing out of the den, Terra saw that the fake Humphrey was gone and she was about to tell Sam when she suddenly felt really tired. Terra fought to stay awake, but it was no good. In a matter of seconds, Terra fell into a deep sleep right there on the spot.
Cain then went over the den that Humphrey had been given. He took on the form of Sam, went in, and used the same trick he had used on Samuel.
Humphrey fell for it.
Now that Cain had set his new plan into action, he needed to wait until the next day to reveal himself to the rest of the pack. Soon… soon he would have his revenge. King and Sam would rush to the aid of Anna and Runt, which would be the first step of his trap, then he would destroy the males, but leave the females alive to have some real fun with.
Things were playing out perfectly, but Cain forgot about the other four teens that had traveled with Samuel's group. Fleet, Stinky, Claudette and Magrill.
Meanwhile, Sam watched his mate drift off to sleep, but he couldn't help but feel he should inform Kate about what Humphrey had just told him, as he knew his friend had a reputation of telling one party about a new development and forgetting to tell the other. Rising quietly to his feet, Sam placed a tender kiss on Terra's head before leaving the den, unaware that dark forces currently in motion.
Once Cain returned to his group, his visage of Sam having dissipated to his natural form, He turned to the two teenage wolves in his custody. Upon taking in their small trembling forms, Cain smiled wickedly as he watched Anna attempting to sooth Runt's pain as tears fell from his eyes, the agony of his broken hind legs causing him great discomfort.
"Oh," he cooed mockingly, "isn't this precious."
Upon hearing this, the other evil wolves in attendance began to laugh, which did little to quell Anna's anger.
"You won't get away with this," she seethed, tears of rage streaming from her eyes. Cain merely looked looked at the young female, her lithe, but athletic build being very appetizing to him.
"Oh," he began as he hungrily licked his lips, causing Anna's eyes to go wide in fear, "I think I will. And when I have killed your father and grandfather, along with Rex and those filthy omegas, I will make you, your mother, and Eve my personal sluts, and you three, as well as all the other females will be made to breed a new army under my control."
"You are sick," Runt growled out, despite the pain. Cain merely took a mock expression of sheepishness.
"Why yes I am, Thank you for noticing."
With that said, Cain's expression returned to one of sadistic pleasure as he turned to Hench.
"Take these two mutts away. I have a feeling our friends will be coming very soon to 'rescue' them." Returning the evil smile, Hench happily obliged as Cain disappeared. Before long, the evil Alpha's began to move their prisoners for what was certain to be the end of their enemies, unaware that they had been under observation by four very wide eyed young Alpha's.
"We have to tell the others," Fleet whispered to his sister, Claudette and Stinky, who all quickly nodded in agreement as they bolted toward the dens.
Kate sat motionless, her face void of any expression as her mother finished explaining to her what was happening between the latter and King. To say Kate was stunned would be an understatement. To think, she had only found out minutes before that her father was dying, now her mother was telling her that Winston might have set her and King up to be together. Truth be told, the young Alpha was speechless, which, of course, caused a tearful Eve to feel very unsettled.
"Kate," Eve pleaded in whisper, "sweetie, I know it is a lot to take in, but please say something." After a few more moments, Kate continued to remain silent.
"Kate," King interjected, "please understand I am not trying to cause..."
"You will need to tell Lilly," Kate quickly interrupted in a serious tone, causing Eve's eyes to go wide, but also twinkle with hope.
"Of course, of course dear," she responded eagerly.
"And I will need to hear from dad himself that what's going on between you and King was what he intended," Kate continued.
"Absolutely," Eve once again agreed, only for her smile to falter with what Kate said next.
"But..."
Eve would been lying if she said she hadn't expected that, but she knew her stubborn daughter would make some kind of condition.
"But?" the golden-furred Alpha inquired. Looking down to her paws, Kate let out a long sigh. After a few seconds, Kate returned her gaze to Eve, who, along with King, was surprised to to see tears in her eldest daughter's eyes.
"But,...promise me that y-you'll..." At that point Kate took in a shaky breath as she tried, and failed, to hold back her tears.
"...that you'll never forget dad."
"Oh sweetie," Eve sobbed as she pulled Kate into a tight embrace, the latter now weeping into her mother's chest. "I could never forget your father."
"And I wouldn't want her too, Kate," King added in as a stray tear escaped his eye.
What happened next shocked King greatly, but brought great warmth to his and Eve's hearts. Kate, having pulled herself from her mother's embrace, enveloped King in one of her own. At first shocked by the unexpected move from his lover's daughter, King gently returned the hug.
"Thank you King," Kate muttered softly as fresh tears fell, feeling her mother join the embrace which lasted for a few minutes until the trio pulled apart. At that moment, Humphrey and Sam walked into the den, the two having just bumped into each other outside, totally oblivious to what had transpired in the den.
"Hey babe?" he called, alerting his mate to his presence. Kate, having only a few seconds to recompose herself before walking to her mate.
"Yes Humphrey, what is it?"
"Oh, I just wanted to let you know that Sam told me that Runt was going to be staying with him and his family tonight, if that's okay?" Humphrey inquired with a smile, earning a giggle and nod from Kate, but a look of confusing from Sam.
"That doesn't sound quite right," Sam said skeptically, causing Humphrey to take on a confused expression of his own, "because I was coming to tell Kate that you said Anna was going to be staying with you and your lot tonight."
"W-well, that doesn't make sense," responded a clearly bewildered Humphrey, "you told me yourself..."
"And you told me yourself," Sam interrupted just as bewildered. At that moment, a new voice filled the den.
"No, my brother told you himself."
Looking to the source of the voice, Sam and King's eyes widened as they took in the form of the white wolf before them.
"Able," King rasped out.
"How is this possible?" Sam asked, resulting in a somber smile from the ghostly wolf.
"Haven't you heard of spirits with unfinished business?"
"What do you mean?" Humphrey asked, he and his mate clearly confused as to who this strange wolf was, who soon turned his attention to Eve.
"Tell them." With a nod, Eve started to speak.
"This is the main reason Winston sent me with you," she began.
"Winston said that Able here came to him in a dream, that a wolf from King's past would be seeking revenge against him and his family, and his allies."
"And I have come to tell you that it has begun."
"What has?" Sam inquired, being on edge from a growing panic attack.
"They will explain," Able said before vanishing, leaving the wary wolves in the den.
"WHO?!" King called, hoping to get an answer from Able, only to receive it in the form of Runt's siblings and their partners.
"MOM, DAD, SAMUEL!" Stinky called as he, Claudette, Fleet, and Magril bolted into the den.
"Son, what is it?" Humphrey asked the clearly panicked young wolves.
"It's Runt and Anna!" Stinky began, almost completely out of breath.
"What about them?" Sam quickly butted in upon the mentioning of his daughter, his panic rising by the second.
"They have them," Claudette continued for her brother.
"It's Hench!"
Upon hearing this, Sam was quickly on high alert.
"Where did they take them?" he urgently asked.
"T-toward the n-northern b-borders," Magril added in. Quickly turning to King and Eve, Sam began to issue orders.
"Eve, King, go to Rex, tell him what's happened and that we will need as many Alphas as possible!"
"Right!" King responded with a curt nod before he and Eve bolted out of the den. Turning to the young wolves that had relayed the devastating news, Sam continued.
"You four, keep tabs of Hench, we don't want to lose them!"
"Yes sir!" Fleet responded as the four left as well, leaving Sam alone with his friend and the latter's mate.
"You definitely would make a good leader," Humphrey joked as he nudged his friend, who somehow managed to a crack a smile.
"Too much responsibility," Sam joked before his serious expression returned.
"I need to find Terra, tell her what's happened," Sam continued.
"Best you go with the youngsters," he recommended with a knowing look, which Humphrey and Kate quickly caught before leaving to catch up with their eldest children, Sam leaving the den just seconds later. Within minutes, Sam arrived at his families temporary den to find Terra asleep inside. Running up to her, Sam urgently nudged her head with his nose, earning of groan from the female.
"Terra!" he whispered urgently, "Terra wake up!" Slowly but surely, Terra began to come out of her deep sleep. Upon seeing that his wife was awake, Sam began to explain the situation.
"Terra, it's Hench, he's kidnapped Anna and Runt and is taking them north!" Upon hearing this, Terra was instantly wide awake.
"It's Cain's doing!" She blurted out as she rose to her feet, confusing her mate.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"When Humphrey came to see us," Terra began to explain, "it wasn't him, it was Cain, I know it was. I was going to tell you but he must have done something to me because I fell asleep before I could warn you!" At that moment, Sam began to connect the dots.
"He must have done the same to Humphrey but as me," he said, "because Humphrey said I had gone to talk to him."
"Then there isn't a moment to lose," Terra theorized, earning a nod from her mate who started out the den.
"Right, come on," Sam shouted "King and Rex should be done organizing everyone!"
And of course, Sam was right.
Upon reaching the center of the valley, the two wolves eyes widened as a mass contingent of Alphas were preparing to march to battle. With that in mind, Terra tenderly placed a paw on her stomach, unnoticed by Sam. After a few moments, Terra knew she could not partake in the battle, but needed to give some kind of excuse without revealing her condition to her mate.
"I should stay here," she said, earning a shocked look from her mate, "just in case they send a contingent of their own. Remember, Hench was once a Rogue, so he no doubt has remembered my father's tactics."
After a few moments, Terra gave a silent sigh of relief as her mate seemed to accept this excuse.
"Alright," Sam said with a smile, leaning in to capture his mate's lips in a deep in passionate kiss, unsure if it would be the last one they would share.
"I know you've got this...even if Hench IS dumber than a pile of rocks."
This earned a chuckle from Terra, who gave a sad smile as Sam left to join the others, leaving her with the pack Omegas, including Elise and Matthew, and a pawful of other Alpha's who had stayed behind, silently praying that her mate and father would succeed in their mission.
