.:oOo:.
"Are you sure about this, Riley? I can deliver the order if you want," Rowan voiced, already reaching for the stack of three books wrapped in brown paper.
Riley slipped the stack into his messenger bag and out of his twin's reach, securing the strap across his chest. His pale amethyst orbs stared into slightly darker rose and Rowan sighed. If it were not for Rowan's eye color and the fact that she had waist length waves, they could have been identical. Riley's platinum locks were short and layered without a hint of a curl. Another major difference was their height. Riley stood at five feet eleven inches to Rowan's five feet four.
"Fine, but at least take a—,"
"Rowan," Riley started, interrupting his twin sister. "Stop it."
Despite the order, there was no bite to his words. She pursed her lips as she pressed her fists against her hips. Her shoulders slumped as she exhaled loudly.
"Just be careful and take a break if you need to," Rowan huffed.
Riley rolled his eyes, unable to stop the reaction to his sister's over-protectiveness. He was older by fifteen minutes, but ever since his accident she practically smothered him. It took everything he had to keep her from moving into his apartment, only having done so by agreeing to work at the bookstore café with her since he dropped out of medical school. Riley left the bookstore café before Rowan could change her mind, the clicks of his forearm crutches echoing his steady gait. After twenty minutes of walking, Riley entered the building addressed on the book order. Having been to the building multiple times, the blonde stepped over to the receptionist. The brunette looked up with a smile, recognizing him immediately.
"Hello, Mr. Miller. Here to drop off another order for Mr. Stark?" Melanie asked, standing up from her chair to accept the package.
Her desk phone rang before Riley could open his messenger bag to retrieve the order.
"Stark Tower, receptions—. Oh, yes, of course, Mr. Stark. I'll let him know right away," Melanie spoke into the phone, her brown orbs widening in surprise at the call before hanging up. "Mr. Stark would like to see you. Take that elevator and I'll enter the access code for the top floor."
"Did he say why he wants to see me?" Riley asked, just as confused as Melanie seemed to be.
Usually Riley would drop off the order, share small talk with her and then leave. Out of all the times he has come to Stark Tower, a total of twenty times, never has he been further than reception.
"No, just that he wanted you to come up immediately," Melanie stated, typing something on her keyboard that had the elevator doors open. "If you hear a British male's voice, don't be alarmed. It is JARVIS, Mr. Stark's A.I. system."
"Ah…," Riley voiced, still confused of the situation as he stepped into the elevator.
The doors closed silently and he barely felt the shift as the elevator rose, only stopping once it reached the top floor of the building. The doors open and Riley stepped into a spacious living room-esque area.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Miller. Mr. Stark is down in his lab. Please have a seat while I get him for you," JARVIS, the A.I. Melanie had warned him about, stated.
"Okay, thank you," Riley spoke, feeling strange that he was speaking to air.
Choosing to sit on one of the tall stools surrounding a side bar, finding it would be easier to stand up from the stool as opposed to the comforting looking sofa…a low one at that. He leaned his crutches against his legs and removed the book order from his bag as he waited, setting the stack on the bar beside him. It was another minute before the sound of hurried footsteps could be heard and then Anthony Stark entered the room wearing a faded AC/DC t-shirt and a grease stain on his forehead.
-oOo-
"My Seshat, you're here!" Tony exclaimed happily with a grin, closing the distance between them and glancing at the stack of books he ordered.
Riley's brows lifted in surprise.
"I'm not an Egyptian goddess, Mr. Stark, much less the Mistress of the House of Books," Riley droned dully, clearly exasperated with the man's words.
Tony let out an impressed whistle, his grin no less bright as Riley caught onto exactly who Tony was referring the blonde to.
"What did you need to see me for, Mr. Stark?"
"Tony, please," Tony insisted, leaning up against the bar Riley sat at while casually crossing his arms over his chest. "I've been wanting to meet you."
Riley frowned in confusion.
"Why?" He wondered, honestly wanting to know.
"Well," Tony began, scratching the side of his face in thought. "Ever since I placed my first order with your bookstore, you've been including an additional source of material outside of my scope. I'm curious as to why."
Riley nodded, finally understanding, but surprised it took this long for the other man to call him out on it, much less mention it at all.
"Is this you saying that you've read those books I included?" Riley inquired and Tony chuckled.
"Sure, I was curious," Tony answered without pause.
"And did you have any knowledge about the topics within those books?"
"Nope," Tony admitted, popping the 'p' with another grin. "So?"
"Then you learn something new every day…or in your case, every other week," Riley stated with a shrug, grabbing hold of his forearm crutches and moving to stand up. "If that's all you wanted to know, you could have called the store."
"I could have, but then I would not have met you," Tony voiced with a casual innocence that had Riley looking at the brunette. "You ever eat Mediterranean?"
"Can't say that I have," Riley answered, securing his arms through his crutches.
Tony smacked his hands together as if some brilliant idea just hit him.
"There is this wonderful little mom and pop place that serves amazing Mediterranean foods. We should go there some time," Tony suggested, earning a stare of uncertainty from the blonde.
"We should?" Riley asked, completely unnerved by the man standing in front of him.
"Of course. Let's go tonight. I'll pick you up at seven," Tony voiced as he carefully ushered Riley into the elevator that would send the blonde back down to the lobby.
Riley's lips parted, but he was left speechless as Tony waved good-bye and the elevator door shut concluding their brief meeting. He spent the walk back to the bookshop in baffled silence.
.:oOo:.
Riley was unsure of why he did not mention his impromptu meeting with Tony Stark to his sister, much less the last-minute dinner plans the billionaire set up. A majority of Riley believed the man would not show up, only a small part of him moving around his apartment to get ready for a dinner outing that may or may not happen.
So, it came as a slight surprise when a knock sounded against Riley's apartment door and he opened it to be greeted by a bright smile and shining brown eyes. Riley shifted his weight beneath Tony's gaze, the creaking of his leg brace catching the brunette's attention. A frown tugged at Tony's grin and eyes filled with concern were suddenly locked on light amethyst.
"Are you okay? You weren't wearing a leg brace earlier," Tony inquired, moving to the side to allow room for Riley to exit his apartment.
"I'm fine," Riley murmured, not wanting to discuss that particular topic. "If this is an issue—."
"No, of course not. I'll carry you if you want," Tony voiced playfully, wagging his eyebrows.
"You will do no such thing," Riley snapped out quickly, unsure if Tony would actually make an attempt at picking him up.
"Well, my offer remains open," Tony stated, stepping out of the apartment building and over to his car that he had parked at the curve. "Your chariot awaits."
Riley could not refrain from rolling his eyes, despite the corners of his lips twitching upwards at Tony's ridiculous antics. It took no time at all arriving at the restaurant with how fast Tony drove his car, a speed that had Riley's heart settle in his throat and his finger nails threaten to cut through expensive leather. It took great effort for Riley to collect himself inside Tony's car, his entire body shaking. He inhaled deeply and held for a moment before releasing slowly. Tony, who stood by holding the passenger door open, looking apologetic and held out a hand to assist Riley. When Riley slipped a shaky hand in Tony's steady one, Tony knelt down beside the blonde.
"I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking about my driving habits. They have never affected anyone to this extent," Tony voiced apologetically, his eyes reflecting the sincerity of his words. "I promise not to drive like that again with you inside the car with me."
Riley vaguely heard the 'but I'll continue driving like a maniac when you're not' being unsaid, his heartrate still racing.
"I'm not much of a car person," Riley murmured, accepting Tony's assistance in getting out of the car. "Not since my accident."
Tony winced, cautiously wrapping an arm around Riley's shoulders and rubbing the blonde's arm in comfort.
"Again, I apologize. That was dumb of me," Tony admitted and Riley nodded in agreement without remorse, the corners of his lips twitching upwards.
"Yeah, extremely," Riley voiced and Tony caught the amused tone, grinning once more.
"Come on, let me make it up to you with the best Mediterranean food ever," Tony stated and had to hold himself back from helping the blonde out of the car when amethyst orbs narrowed at him when Tony went to do so.
This meal would turn out to be one of many shared between the bookshop owner and the billionaire. The most surprising thing to Riley about these shared moments, other than the fact that he seemed to enjoy Tony Stark's presence, was the lack of media coverage. With every date without reporters, Riley seemed to relax and open up more to Tony about himself…and eventually about his accident.
.:One Month Later:.
"No, no wait—Tony!" Riley voiced with a mix of laughter and exasperation as Tony picked Riley up by the waist and set the him on the edge of Tony's kitchen counter top.
Riley's forearm crutches lay on the floor where they fell, but Riley found himself not able to complain about them as Tony moved to stand between the blonde's legs. Tony placed his hands on the countertop on either side of Riley's hips, caging the blonde in. Tony's usual grin was more of a smile now as he rested his forehead against Riley's, their eyes locked on one another. Tony's hands slowly moved off of the countertop to settled along Riley's hips, his thumps moving in soothing circles.
"If I kiss you, are you going to curse my existence?" Tony teased and Riley chuckled as he draped his arms around Tony's shoulders.
"I may curse you if you don't," Riley stated and Tony angled his head until his mouth covered Riley's in as much of a chaste kiss as the brunette was able.
The innocent touch quickly grew into a smoldering heat as Tony dipped his tongue between parted lips and Riley soon found himself being feasted upon. Tony shifted closer, pressing himself against the inside of Riley's thighs and the blonde sighed as tingles vibrated through his system. Riley tightened his arms around Tony, holding the brunette close as they kissed with a passion that they held for one another. Breaking their kiss for air, Riley gasped as Tony's mouth continued along his jaw and down the expanse of his throat.
"Tony…," Riley breathed a moan as Tony focused on a sensitive spot along Riley's collarbone.
Tony's fingers tightened on Riley's hips, before Tony wrapped his arms completely around Riley's waist with one hand dipping underneath the blonde's shirt. Leaning back up, Tony slanted his mouth over Riley's, catching the other's bottom lip in a brief suck before diving back in for another taste.
"I want you," Tony whispered, both panting even as Tony placed a series of kisses to Riley's kiss-swollen lips.
"I want you too," Riley voiced honestly, but with a little hesitance.
Hearing the hesitation in Riley's voice, Tony leaned back. Running a hand through Riley's blonde locks, Tony caressed the back of Riley's head before resting his hand against the back of Riley's neck. His other hand settled at Riley's waist.
"What's wrong?" Tony asked, concern in his brown eyes.
"I…my legs. Tony, my accident…it left some pretty bad scars," Riley murmured, not wanting to look at the other man, but Tony cupped Riley's face.
"Hey, scars don't bother me, Rye. I have some scars myself, especially after what happened to me overseas," Tony voiced carefully, his own traumatic experience still a little difficult to discuss.
Amethyst orbs caught sight of the blue glow from the center of Tony's chest. Yes, Riley knows about Tony's kidnapping and his identity as Iron Man…as much as the next person who watches the news or listens to the radio. Riley placed a hand over the glowing arc reactor Tony had told him kept him alive. Without another word, Riley kissed Tony.
.:oOo:.
"When do I get to meet this mystery person that has you smiling so much lately?" Rowan asked her twin as she organized a few pasties inside the glass display for customers.
Riley shrugged, his mouth quirking upwards in a smile he was unable to hold back.
"Soon…maybe? I just don't want to rush it, Rowan," Riley told her, sitting behind the counter contemplating on claiming a particularly large cinnamon bun.
Without even looking in his direction, Rowan grabbed the exact bun Riley was eyeing and set it on a plate before sliding it over to her brother.
"Can I at least get a hint of who this person is?" Rowan inquired; her dark rose-colored eyes boring into Riley's.
Riley smiled softly just thinking about Tony and the night they spent together. His body ached, but it was a pleasant ache and not the one that followed him every morning with stiffness in his legs. Sure, the stiffness was still present, but much more ignorable as Riley's thoughts circled around the care Tony treated him with.
"He's not what I expected him to be," Riley finally spoke, swiping a little icing off of the top of the cinnamon bun and licking it off of the tip of his finger. "He's very caring, but doesn't treat me as though I'm glass because of my legs."
Rowan pursed her lips, leaning her hip against the counter in thought.
"Is he a customer?"
Riley glanced up at Rowan and she grinned.
"He is! Tell me more," Rowan crowed, her eyes shining with happiness and interest.
"Rowan," Riley groaned around a bite of his pastry. "Let me keep this one secret for a little bit longer please."
Rowan huffed, but she was smiling.
"Fine, but I want to meet him."
Riley nodded and focused on finishing his breakfast before customers began to arrive.
"Oh, do you mind manning the till for a while? One of our regulars put in a large order for a variety of strudel," Rowan stated, wiping her hands on the front of her apron before grabbing the empty pastry tray.
"Sure," Riley answered nonchalantly, not voicing his sigh of relief that manning the till would keep him sitting down.
No matter how much he enjoyed his time with Tony, last night zap the energy right out of him.
.:Four Months Later:.
"Billionaire Anthony Stark was spotted today in Chicago's Harry Winston Jewelry store. A source tells us that Mr. Stark was looking at engagement rings. Is the infamous playboy finally settling down? Who is this person who caught Mr. Stark's attention so strongly? Stay tuned for more—."
Riley clicked off his phone, his mouth pulled down in a frown. There was no way Tony was searching for rings, especially in Chicago. Of that, Riley was sure. The broadcast showed that it aired at five o'clock and the topic of interest was currently in a deep sleep right beside Riley, the brunette having shown up at his apartment at seven o'clock for dinner that was no doubt cold in the kitchen by now. Setting his phone on his bedside table, Riley lay back in order to get comfortable. Tony moved then, his arm going across Riley's waist and pulling the blonde up against him. Riley smiled as Tony exhaled deeply, the brunette still asleep. Resting his hand over Tony's, Riley closed his eyes.
Ching! Ching! Ching!
Amethyst orbs blinked open at the sound of his doorbell ringing. Glancing at Tony and noting he was still asleep, Riley carefully moved out of Tony's arms and climbed out of bed. It took a moment to slip on a pair of sweat pants, the room still dark with how late…or early it was. Securing one of his forearm crutches, Riley quietly left the bedroom to see who was ringing his doorbell at this time. It took one peek through the peephole for Riley to start cursing in his mind.
"Pete, are you sure this is the place Stark disappeared to?" A reporter asked their cameraman.
Said cameraman nodded.
"I saw him with my own eyes, Drew. The man was in a good mood too," Pete stated just above a whisper.
Ching! Ching! Ching!
Drew pressed the doorbell again and Riley did not know whether he wanted to yank open his door and let the two men have a verbal lashing or ignore them and go back to bed. He heard a tired groan coming from the bedroom before Tony stumbled out in only a pair of boxer briefs, the brunette rubbing his sleep-matted eyes.
"Who is it, Rye?" Tony asked hoarsely, brushing a hand down Riley's back as he moved past the blonde to see for himself.
"Hello? Is anyone home?"
Obviously, the reporter on the other side of the door heard Tony speaking, foregoing the doorbell and instead knocking lightly while calling out. Tony withheld a groan, pressing his forehead against the door in annoyance. Riley placed a hand on Tony's shoulder, motioning for him to move out of the way. Brows furrowed; Tony moved until he stood in a spot that would hide him when Riley opened the door. Keeping the chain on the lock, Riley cracked the door open with a glare.
"Are you dying?" Riley questioned the reporter who blinked in confusion.
"Uh…no, I—."
"Is there a fire within the building?" Riley asked, interrupting the reporter once more.
"No, but—."
"So, there is no emergency?" Riley stated rhetorically. "Then why, on God's green earth, are you waking me up at four o'clock in the morning?"
Tony swallowed his urge to chuckle, biting the inside of his cheek to keep any noise from escaping as he watched on. The reporter blinked, startled at the hostile gaze aimed at him.
"Well, I would like to ask you a few questions about—."
"Go away or I'm calling the cops for harassment," Riley grumbled, too tired to put any heat into the words, before shutting the door in the reporter's face and latching the lock on the door.
"Come on, Drew, I obviously made a mistake," Pete whispered and Drew quietly agreed, the two quickly leaving the apartment building.
Before Riley could move away from the door, Tony's arms were wrapping around him from behind and pressing his hard length against him. Riley gasped as Tony nipped along the expanse of his throat while carefully leading them backwards. Reaching the sofa, Tony turned them around until Riley's front was bent over the top of the sofa.
"To-Tony," Riley stuttered, hands grappling at the sofa cushions.
"Shh, I've got you," Tony murmured softly, his fingers slipping beneath the waistband of Riley's sweatpants and tugging them down.
Riley's eyes widened, having never been in this position with his partner. Before his accident, he was too busy with med-school and exams to be involved with someone, and after his accident…there was only ever Tony. Riley cried out as Tony slowly entered him, his entrance still loose from their earlier coupling. Riley trembled, his legs shaking. The only thing keeping him up was the sofa back and Tony who was thrusting his hips without hurry, his movements caressing and gentle.
"Seeing that fire within your eyes…I barely refrained from taking you against the front door," Tony groaned, one hand running up and down Riley's thigh in a soothing manner while his other hand gripped the blonde's hip.
Riley moaned, his head swimming from the sensations Tony ignited within him. Resting his head against his forearm, Riley reached behind him with his other and covered Tony's hand on his hip. Tony leaned forward and pressed a series of kisses along Riley's back, the motion deepening his thrust and hitting the bundle a nerves inside the blonde. The mewl that escaped Riley had Tony's thrusts speed up. Riley's fingernails dug into the sofa cushion, the friction of his erection against the sofa becoming too much for the blonde to handle along with Tony's relentless strikes inside him.
"Tony. To-Tony. I can't…I ca—argh!" Riley sobbed with his release, his walls clamping tightly around Tony and had the brunette moaning with his own release.
Riley's body shook as Tony's thrusts slowed down, not stopping completely until the overstimulating sensations began to get too much for the blonde; Riley crying out Tony's name again, his voice muffled against the sofa. Feeling his sweatpants being removed completely from his legs, Riley found himself unable to move. Tony wrapped his arms around the blonde, straightening Riley up and tightening his grip when Riley's legs went slack beneath his weight. Without hesitation, Tony scooped Riley up and made the short distance to the bedroom where he carefully laid the blonde down before positioning himself on top. Tony kissed Riley, who parted his lips and looped trembling arms around Tony's shoulders.
"Insatiable man," Riley joked breathlessly as he felt Tony's member beginning to harden again as it was pressed against his thigh.
Tony chuckled, nuzzling the side of Riley's throat and giving the tender flesh a playful suck that would no doubt leave a mark.
"I don't think…," Riley trailed off, his eyes meeting Tony's in the shadowed bedroom.
Tony cupped the side of Riley's face, his smile soft.
"It's okay. We don't have to," Tony stated, sliding off of Riley only to bring the blonde into his arms to rest his head against Tony's chest. "Despite what my body does, I don't think I have the energy for another round."
Riley huffed in amusement, pressing a kiss to the scared flesh beside Tony's arc reactor. He felt Tony tense up at the action, before the brunette relaxed again and Tony's arms tightened around him. Tony pressed a kiss to the crown of Riley's head, taking a calming inhale.
.:oOo:.
"Okay, promise me that you won't freak out," Riley said to his grinning twin, Rowan practically bouncing in her seat as she waited for her brother's partner to show up.
"Freak out? Why would I? I've been dying for the past five months trying to figure out who your mystery man is and you're finally introducing us," Rowan exclaimed happily, rubbing her hands together while glancing towards the bookstore entrance.
Riley had decided to introduce Rowan and Tony to one another in the bookstore after hours. The dinging of the bell sounded at the top of the entrance and Rowan gapped at the sight of who just entered. Her rose-hued eyes flickered from Tony to Riley, the two men sharing secretive smiles and Rowan swallowed the lump in her throat.
"Riley…that's Tony Stark," Rowan whispered as Tony made his way over to them, Riley remaining seated at Tony's silent behest.
"Rowan, I want you to meet my partner Tony. Tony, this is my twin sister Rowan," Riley introduced them, ignoring his sister's previous statement.
Tony held out his hand to Rowan with a greeting on his lips. Rowan stood up, accepting Tony's handshake. Her giddy expression had dropped at the realization that her twin, her precious little brother, was involved with an infamous playboy. She gave the hand in hers a tight squeeze until she spotted the twitch at the corner of Tony's eye.
"You better treat my brother like the prince he is or they'll never find your remains," Rowan hissed to Riley's stunned mortification.
"Rowan!" Riley started, but Tony's words caught him up.
"I'd remove my arc reactor before I intentionally hurt Riley," Tony voiced seriously, not wavering under Rowan's hard stare.
Seconds passed before Rowan was smiling again.
"Have a seat, Tony. I have a lot of things to ask you," Rowan said and commenced with her interrogation without hesitation while Riley hid his flushed cheeks behind his hands.
He peeked through his fingers at the feel of a foot nudging his and Riley spotted Tony's grin aimed at him. Smiling back, Riley sat through his twin's embarrassing questions.
.:A Few Months Later:.
"Pepper, have you seen my favorite shirt?" Tony called out from inside his closet, shuffling items around as he searched for the well-worn ACDC shirt that was more rag than clothing these days.
A sound of amusement caught Tony's attention and he glanced over his shoulder to see his assistant standing at the entrance of his closet with her tablet in hand.
"JARVIS, could you bring up the kitchen feed please?" Pepper asked and the camera for the kitchen immediately appeared on her tablet.
"Of course, Ms. Potts," JARVIS, Tony's A.I. stated, having already done so.
She proceeded to turn her tablet around to face Tony and he grinned dopily at the sight of Riley flipping pancakes on the stove while bacon drained on some paper towels. The blonde's forearm crutches were gone, Riley having been able to get rid of them a few weeks prior with threats from his doctor to take it easy. Aside from the very domestic view, Tony's eyes were on the shirt Riley was currently wearing.
"It looks better on him anyway," Tony murmured, pleased at the sight.
He blinked when Pepper cut the feed and pouted, before quickly perking back up. Why watch a tablet when he his source of happiness was downstairs in the kitchen at that very moment? Snatching a Metallica t-shirt off of the shelf, Tony pulled it over his head as he quickly left the closet with Pepper following in a relaxed manner.
"Good morning, gorgeous!" Tony spoke as he descended the stairs.
Riley shook his head, but called out a greeting of his own as he turned off the stove and began setting plates for three. Pepper knew not to argue, taking her designated seat at the breakfast table. Tony grabbed a pitcher of juice out of the ridge before making a cup of coffee.
"So, I was thinking," Tony began, taking a bite of his blueberry pancake and sighing as the flavor exploded over his tastebuds. "We should get married."
Riley's fork slipped from his grasp, his amethyst orbs wide. Not hearing anything coming from Pepper, Riley looked at the redhead to see her trying to hid a smile behind her glass of juice. He looked back at Tony.
"What?"
"Married. Us. Joined together in matrimony," Tony stated, leaning to the side and reaching into the pocket of his jeans.
Tony pulled out a small black leather box, setting it on the table before sliding it over to Riley. Riley stared at the box, his heart thumping in his chest. Calloused fingers took hold of the lid and popped it over as Riley had not moved an inch. Harry Winston was written on the inside of the lid in elegant script and Riley thought back to that news broadcast about Tony being in Chicago…how Riley tossed the idea away, because how would Tony have been in Chicago and back all before their dinner date? Riley could have groaned. Of course, Tony had a private plane, but Riley never would have guess.
"Rye?" Tony asked, a touch of nervousness in his voice.
"You want us to get married?" Riley asked quietly, his eyes on the exceptionally designed meteorite ring.
"Yes, but only if you want," Tony answered, sliding his hand over Riley's. "I don't want to rush you into anything, so you can say no."
Riley finally looked up into Tony's eyes. There was a wariness there, as if Tony was afraid that he would scare the blonde away.
"We just started living together," Riley stated in disbelief.
"I know and I love it. I love you," Tony explained.
Riley turned his hand over in Tony's and laced their fingers together.
"I love you too, Tony," Riley breathed. "I want to marry you too."
Tony exhaled shakily, having been holding his breath. He was suddenly grinning again and Tony fumbled for the ring while keeping Riley's left hand clasped in his. Locking eyes with Riley, Tony slipped the ring onto Riley's finger.
"I hope you know this is forever. There's no getting rid of me now," Tony said with a chuckle, leaving his seat to kneel down before Riley.
Riley cupped the side of Tony's face.
"Get rid of you? I would never," Riley whispered, leaning down and meeting Tony halfway in a kiss.
A click and a flash followed, gaining both of their attention on a smiling Pepper who was holding up her phone.
"Just a little something to remind us of this moment…also, I promised Rowan a picture," Pepper explained and Riley rolled his eyes.
Tony chuckled, before pulling Riley back in for another kiss.
