A Shattered Life

Chapter 57: Different Views

Oscar made his way through the crowd of people accompanied by Ruby, who was carrying a few bags full of food. A sudden shake almost threw the young boy to the floor but he managed to place his hand on the wall preventing his fall. "Wow! The storm is getting worse by the minute." He looked at the window seeing the lightning erupt from the clouds and the snow violently crashing against the train. "I don't think I have seen a storm like this strong before. I hope this thing doesn't derail or something." The young man was somewhat worried.

"Don't be a scaredy-cat." Replied Ruby. "This is nothing you should have seen the one when I fought against Salem back at Beacon. The wind was so strong it took parts of the airship while we were flying." She squeezed herself between two women in order to push through. "Also this is good for us as the Grimm were forced to seek shelter so the rest of the trip should be a breeze at least. We do need to rest and heal, Jaune doesn't have enough Aura for all of us."

"Yeah, I know." Said Oscar as he opened the door for the red girl. "That Solomon guy really pushed us to our breaking point. I mean he was a beast he took all our hits and still moved like it was nothing, if it wasn't for your boyfriend I would be dead right now."

Ruby paused and looked back at the boy. "Do me a favor and please don't mention his name in front of Geo. Solomon was once his mentor and friend so for him this wasn't a victory, just another battle where he lost someone he cared about."

"Oh, I had no idea. I promise I won't say a thing."

Within moments they approached two knights of the Mirage Order who were standing guard at the door. Once they noticed it was the Queen they bowed, then both of them opened the door for her. "My Queen I should warn you that your uncle was found passed out on the floor near his cabin." When she heard that Ruby sighed in frustration. "We thought someone had attacked him but when he woke up he beat two of our knights without reason. They are now in the infirmary my lady."

"I'm sorry my uncle is a complicated man and he has some serious issues." Ruby couldn't believe what she was hearing. "I will talk to him and make sure he apologizes for what he did."

"Thank you, my lady." He bowed.

Then Ruby and Oscar entered the room with their bags in hand. Yang, Blake, and Weiss were in the middle of a conversation when they noticed the others had returned from their trip to the kitchen. "Finally you brought dinner sis, I am starving!" Stated Yang as quickly grabbed one of the bags. They began taking the food out and placing it on the table. "I think this is enough for all of us, someone should go call the others."

"Where are they?" Asked Oscar.

"Ren and Nora are in their room playing games. Jaune is training with the creepy masked man and as for Geo he is with Roary in your room Ruby." Answered Weiss.

"You shouldn't say that Hydrox has helped us a lot." Replied Blake. "And it's because of him that Jaune is becoming stronger."

"And have you forgotten he tried to kill me and Ruby?"

"Listen, that doesn't matter anymore." Ruby placed her hand on Weiss's shoulder. "He is with us now and that's all that matters. What happened before is the past we must focus on what's ahead."

Yang nodded. "She does have a point. Besides, you still butt sore because he beat you during the entrance exam back at Beacon."

Weiss quickly looked at the blonde girl. "Shut up! This has nothing to do with that!"

"Hehehe! Sure." Laughed Yang.

"Whatever!"

While the girls were arguing, Oscar took the opportunity to leave the room and go find the others. He walked through the hallway until he found Ruby's cabin. He knocked first before opening the door, there he found Geo holding his daughter. "I hope I am not bothering but dinner is ready." He approached and then looked at the baby with a smile on his lips. "She really is cute."

"She got the looks from her mother thankfully." Replied Geo as he placed her down in her crib. "I am not hungry at the moment but thanks." He sit on the couch and began rocking Roary's crib gently with his foot.

"Oh okay, I will let Ruby know." Oscar was about to leave but there was something he felt deep inside of him that had to come out. "Back at the battle, I heard you call yourself a 'monster', is that how you see yourself? Because right now I only see a father caring for his child."

"Then you are a fool." Geo looked at him. "I am not like Ruby or her friends they fight to save this world but not change it. Do you think the people will give a damn if we win?"

"I...they have to."

"Maybe some will but the very powerful won't, they like how the world is right now and because of that nothing will change. Without the Grimm keeping the kingdoms in check, they will expand and new wars will erupt all across Remnant." Said Geo with a serious tone. "I believe Ruby can defeat the Dark God but the kingdoms won't care what she has to say. They just want more power to themselves."

"It doesn't matter what kings or generals want. We are doing this to save those who can't protect themselves." Replied Oscar with passion. "But I also can't say that something like that won't happen. And I don't know what we can do if the kingdoms decide to do that."

"I shall burn them!" Geo's eye seemed to be emanating a purple fire. "Only through power and fear, people seem to understand! I will destroy the kingdoms and make sure that my daughter can live in a peaceful world! And if they call me a monster then so be it! I will do anything for my family!"

Oscar stared at him and saw his rage but also his pain. "You know if it comes to that I...I can't let you do that. And Ruby she would never allow that as well."

"You will try puppet if your master allows it."

"I am no one's puppet!" Oscar said angrily. "You are not a monster just a man doing his best to protect those he loves."

Geo then got up. "That's why I am here! I fight for my people and my family!" He approached the young boy. "What about you?! Why the hell are you here?!"

"I...I want to save the world!" Then he felt a sharp pain in his stomach and when he looked down he saw Geo's fist. He took a few steps back while gasping for air. "Ahh...w-why?"

"Save the world?! For what reason?! And don't tell me because it's the right thing to do!"

"I-I...I don't..." Geo delivered another punch but this time it was at his face almost sending him to the floor "Ahhhh!"

"WHY ARE YOU HERE?!"

"I DON'T KNOW!" Yelled Oscar. "I don't know." He sat on the couch realizing what he just said.

Then Roary began to cry due to the noise. Geo sighed and picked up his daughter to try and calm her down. "I didn't mean to disturb you, sweetie." Then he turned to Oscar. "My brother used to tell me that a man without a cause has nothing to fight for, nothing to believe in. But we have to pick our own causes not follow someone else's blindly. Otherwise, you will end up like me, and you don't want to be me." Geo warned him. "Ozpin has a way with words he can convince you that by doing horrible things for the right reasons is justified and in a way, I actually believe that he is right. But don't let him manipulate you as he did to so many others, you have to figure out what you want!"

Oscar pondered for a moment. "The people that Ozpin told you to kill did they deserve it?"

"Some did but many didn't." The boy answered. "In the end, I will pay for my crimes and I will accept my punishment but only after we kill the Dark God."

"Jaune had someone he loved, I think her name was Pyrrha. Ozpin managed to convince to take the Maiden's power for herself but she wasn't able to and got killed by Cinder."

The King instantly looked at Oscar. "Well...Fuck."

"The man is a manipulative bastard but you managed to survive him and change. How did that happen?" He asked.

Geo smiled. "Women have a way to change your views of the world."

"Ha! I had a feeling Ruby was involved."

"I will always remember that night we met at the village." The memories began to play on his mind. "She likes to think I saved her that night but truthfully she was the one that saved me. If it wasn't for her I don't know what I would have become."

"You would sacrifice the kingdoms and your own soul just for her wouldn't you?"

"For her, my daughter, my friends, and my people." Replied Geo with great determination.

Oscar then got up. "I don't know how to feel about that. I mean I would also do anything to save my family but sacrificing thousands of people for them. I-I actually don't know if I could do that."

Both of them stared at each other. "Everyone has a different point of view and I won't force my views on anyone." Geo placed Roary back at her crip since she was calmer. "But, if the worst comes to happen and if you decide to stand in my way I won't hesitate to put you down."

"I know, but it won't stop me." Oscar replied. "I still have many things to figure out but I know for a fact you are not evil. I think I understand what Ruby see's in you, you are just misguided."

"Only time will tell which one is right." Said Geo. "Also, you are far more different than I thought maybe you are not a puppet after all but you still have a long way to go."

Ruby then entered the room and saw both boys, her eyes quickly narrowed, and with a menacing tone, she said. "You guys better be getting along because I don't want to see another fight between you two." She went to check on her daughter. "Let's go sweety you are coming with mommy now we are going to have dinner." Ruby smiled. "You coming Geo?"

"Will everyone be there?"

"Of course." Said Oscar.

"Then no."

Ruby grabbed his hand and pulled him along. "Don't be shy, you could use some new friends like Nora and Jaune." She smiled at him. "Besides, I want to spend some time with you without being in a battle."

Geo blushed for a moment but then replied. "I prefer to face the Dark God right now than to deal with that annoying girl again."

"Don't be like that she is fun and with time you will learn to like her."

"I doubt it."
