Hayato didn't really understand what had happened, the first time in his apartment, the switch she made was enthralling and he couldn't help but obey her. Since then she had used it to get her way and it always surprised him, smacking her lips always drew his attention and stopped him mid sentence. If he was honest most of what she did, did that but what frustrated him was how much he came to rely on it to calm him down.
On the range he wanted payback but knew her back and wrist were sore. So instead he just corrected her stance to help, and enjoyed pressing himself against and letting his hands leave a trail.
At least I have the same effect on her as she has on me.
When she had her competition, she had told anyone one of her teammates invited him. He only went so he could watch her, so when he saw her coach concerned and looking for her, a bad taste filled his mouth and his gut was telling him something happened. He knew she could protect herself she's been training, but if it wasn't something from the mafia world she may not use her training. He searched everywhere in the building and when he couldn't find her he made his way outside, there he could smell something burning.
He was consumed with thoughts of what might have happened and that he was gonna get to her. He found an old storage building around back on fire and went running not caring what happened to him. He saw the fire take out the door and a brief glimpse of Haru trying to make it out he instead became the support. Haru couldn't see him as she dashed out through the fire, probably tunnel visioned due to the heat. She collapsed shortly after so he let go and ran to her, then grabbed his phone he discarded earlier to call an ambulance and Shamal.
When they got to hospital, he refused to be treated, Shamal showed up and got privileges so he could treat him. Hayato sat there angry and scared he didn't care about the burns to his back, only her.
Eventually Judaime and everyone else showed up, he didn't remember contacting them so he assumed it was Shamal. He stayed in the hospital to make sure the burns didn't get infected the entire time Haru was unconscious and in and out of surgery for her legs. He found out from Shamal that she would be wheelchair bound for quite some time and his heart broke. She loved gymnastics, and was so determined with her training. Now everything would be on hold, then Shamal told him something he knew he didn't want to talk about.
"You like her, possibly love her don't you?" Hayato refused to look at him, he was still sorting things out.
"When did you notice the shift?"
"We were working on a project at my place, we got into an argument and she just switched suddenly. I was at her mercy and she kept doing it, I would just agree to whatever she said, and it helped with my anger. Then the combat training came up and all I could think was 'no not her'. Yet somehow I agreed to train her in explosives, and all that worry and she still got hurt. How can I keep her safe when there are targets on her back I don't know about? On top of that she's gonna be so angry at herself, she won't be able to do what she loves or what she pushed so hard to have. How do I help her with that?" Once he started he just rambled and broke, she was hurt and he could do anything.
"She was dosed in gasoline, I don't know what she did but somehow she managed to reduce the damage to her head and upper body. Her training came in handy because she managed to minimize the damage."
Hayato listened and then became angry. He had been discharged two weeks before she woke up, his wounds had healed beforehand. He still had bandages but they were more there to keep his shirt off them.
When everyone saw her he knew she was upset, probably told the damage but refused to look. She had bandages on her left cheek and temple, as well as her left arm. He remembered what they looked like when she got out and was furious, her hair was short as some of it was burned off and they had to cut it for surgery.
She tried to tell them it was an accident and apparently everyone else believed it too. Did Shamal not report what he knew?
She refused to look at any of them and he just got more mad. Judaime lightly touched his shoulder and mouthed to him 'stay here' he nodded and kept quiet.
"Let's go, Haru needs some space." He watched everyone go to the hall and he sat there waiting for her to explain. He was angry at himself, at her for lying more so at whoever did this.
He noticed a tear go down her face, and reached out to comfort her, wiping away the tear on her good side and placing his hand there. He needed the truth from her, but he wouldn't get it with anger.
"Haru." That got her attention and as soon as she looked at him, the anger and sadness in her eyes, he became calm. He'd be her rock.
"I don't believe it was an accident, how did it happen?" He watched as her wall broke, looking down before leaning into his hand for support. He listened to every word she said and as she became frustrated, he became angry at these girls. The word jealous caught his attention, just as she cut herself off he knew he needed to know what she meant.
"What are they jealous about?" Once he asked, she made an annoyed noise at him, and he felt his anger bubble again.
"Oi answer the question." He just wanted her to answer the question instead he got.
If you don't know then you're blind or stupid."
Stupid she called him stupid or blind. He was neither, ok maybe he was a little blind when it came to her, but stupid no. He was ready to start a screaming match when her finger trailed down his arm lightly like a feather, instantly calming and sending a shiver of pleasure throughout his body, his eyes snapped to her's.
Though her next words were a whisper he heard them loud and clear.
"Go figure it out."
