The land was scorched all around her. In the distance, but still too close, monsters roamed.
There go I, she thought. Who am I? Her identity was slipping away. A boy was huddled beside her. He was someone important, someone precious.
Whoever he was.
The launch facility loomed ahead.
She would have to say goodbye soon. There must have been a way to avoid it. If she just had more time.
Her limbs were getting numb. The pendant was still shielding her, but not for much longer. She'd have to let it go, too.
