Author Note: It's time to start working on the second chapter of this story. I know that the original story only had 1,000 words but the rewrite story had almost 3,000 words and counting. The second chapter will pick up after Lexi leaving the headquarters. I know that this chapter is not as long as the first chapter but that is okay.
Chapter 2
Steve walked into the hotel after looking for his mom all day. He did not know where else to look. He dialed Lexi's number to give her an update. It had been almost a month since he had last saw her and about three weeks since he talked to her on the phone.
"Steve, what are you doing?" The man asked him.
"I just need to check on my wife and make sure that she is okay." Steve revealed to him.
"Steve, I am sorry but we can't have contact with anyone that we love until we find your mom." the man said to him.
"You don't understand. My wife left me and I just got her back. I am not risking that again. I am for sure not going to risk that for my mom." Steve said as he walked past him. He walked out on the balcony when he looked over and saw his mother.
"What are you doing here?" Doris asked her son.
"I am here to save you." Steve said to his mother. "While risking my marriage."
"I thought that you and Lexi were strong." She responded to her son.
"We were until I went to go and help Joe. Remember him? He died. I could not talk to my wife and that caused me to lose my wife. I need to get back home very soon." Steve responded to his mother.
"I still do not understand why you are here." She responded to him.
"That makes two of us but they said that you were in danger." Steve responded to his mother.
"Are you sure?" She asked him. "I don't think that I am in danger. I think that I have everything under control. You should just go home." Doris said to her son.
"Believe me when I say that I want more than nothing to go home to my wife and my team. They are my family." Steve responded to his mother knowing that his words could hurt her.
"You are so wrong. Your father, me and your sister are your family along with Lexi. Your team is your friends." Doris responded to him.
"You left us when we were little so as far as I am concerned that you are just the woman that gave birth to me and Mary. We have move on and build our lives around people that love us." Steve responded to her.
"I am still part of your family rather you accept it or not." Doris responded to her son.
"I do accept it, Doris." Steve responded to his mother. "I need to go home and be with my wife and family."
"Okay." Doris responded to his mother.
"But you are coming with me rather you like it or not." Steve ordered his mother.
"I can't just pick up and leave. I have a job to do." Doris responded before leaving the room.
"Doris, you are endanger." The other man came out of the room to talk to her. She figured that he was there.
"Why are you here?" Doris asked him. "Why did you bring my son out here too?"
"I came to save you." The man said to her. "I was not able to save you all those years ago but I am here now."
"Don't you understand that I don't need your saving me? I can do this by myself." Doris responded leaving the area. "Steve, you need to go back home like you said."
"I need you to come back with me. We can finish this together and then head home." Steve responded to his mother.
"Steve, I don't need or want your help. I can do it on my own." Doris responded to her son.
Steve knew that this was not going to end well. He also knew that his mother was stubborn and that meant that she was not going to go without a fight. He was going to keep her safe by a distance. He and the man watched Doris walking out of the room.
"So what is the plan?" The man asked him. He knew that Steve had a plan.
"We are going to have to keep my mom safe from a distance and make sure that she doesn't see us." Steve responded to the man.
"You know that she is going to spot us the minute she looks. She is very good at her job which means that we are going to have to be better." The man responded to him.
"Yeah I know which means that we need to come with a disguise." Steve responded to him. "I really need to check in with my wife and friends. They are going to be worried about me if I don't check in with them."
"Okay." The man responded to him.
The man walked away as Steve pulled his phone out. He knew that he needed to call his wife to check in on Lexi to make sure that she is okay.
Steve smiled when he heard her voice. He knew that he missed his wife and was happy to hear her voice.
"Hey babe. When are you coming home? I miss you being here with me." She asked her husband with a smile.
"Soon hopefully. We found my mom but she is being stubborn and not wanting to leave." Steve responded to her. "I hate this that I am missing out on all the big moments during pregnancy."
"I know and I hate it too. Does your mom know that I am pregnant?" She asked her husband.
"Not yet. I don't want to use the baby to get her to do the right thing." Steve responded to her.
"Babe, If this means getting you home faster than I think that you should do it. She will want your help and knows that she is keeping you away from your wife and unborn child and that's wrong of her." She responded to her husband.
"I don't know that I can do that. I don't want to use my child for something like this." Steve revealed to her.
"I know, babe." She responded to her husband.
"Listen, we are going to get ready to go help my mom. It should not much longer. I will see you soon." Steve responded to her before saying goodbye.
"I love you." She said to her husband with a smile.
"I love you too." He responded to her before hanging up the phone. He sent a message to Danny telling him that he will call him later to check in on the team.
Meanwhile, Steve headed to get ready for tonight and knew that hopefully this was done by the end of the week. He wanted to be home with Lexi and their family. Doris walked into the meeting spot and knew that her son was in town. She knew that she needed to get him out of there as fast as he came into town.
Doris watched as the other members walked into the room followed by an unknown man. It took a while for her to figure out that it was actually Steve.
"Excuse me, can we talk for a moment?" She said to the man.
"Sure." He said as he followed her into the other room.
"What are you doing here?" She asked him.
"What are you talking about?" The man asked her.
"Cut the lies Steven. I know that it's you." She responded to him.
"My name is not Steve." He responded to her.
"Stop lying to me." She responded to him. "I know how my son looks."
"Okay, mom. I am here to help you so I can get back to my life in Hawaii. I need to make sure that you are safe." Steve revealed to his mother.
"Why don't you give up and go home?" She asked him.
"Because you are my mother and I don't want to lose you again." Steve responded to his mother. "Come on, mom. Let me help you with this."
"Steve, I am trying to keep you safe so one day you and Lexi can give me some grandchildren." Doris said to her son.
"Speaking of grandchildren, I need to talk to you about that." Steve responded to his mother. "Lexi is pregnant right now. This is why I need to help you. I needed to get my child's grandmother back before it's too late. Please let me help you."
"Okay, Let's go finish this so we can get you home to your family." Doris responded to him. "By the way, I knew that your wife was pregnant."
"Okay, I don't even want to know what you knew about it." Steve responded to his mom. He did not even want to know how she knew that Lexi was pregnant.
"If you are wondering who told me. It was your sister. I talked to her just about the time that you pop up here." Doris revealed to her son with a smile. "I was surprised that you did not tell me about the baby."
"That is because I did not want to feel that I was using my child as a tool to get you to do what is right." Steve responded to her.
"Steve, you did not use your child as a tool. You did it to help me see that I need your help and that's okay." Doris responded to her son with a smile. "I am proud of you."
Author Note: It is really nice not having a set day that I need to have a new chapter up. I was going to write a father's day story for this storyline but I am going to wait to share it until this story is done. I hope that you follow me on twitter as Carson34ff where I update often.
