Author Note: Welcome to the third chapter of this story. We will be sharing our Father's Day story as soon as this story is finished. I have set a goal for myself to have this chapter done by July 5th. We will also be sharing our Fourth of July story as soon as this story is finish as well. I have decided to set up a word count goal for this story which is 25,000 words in 20 chapters.
Chapter 3
Danny walked into the house after a long day at work. He really hoped that Steve was coming back soon because he did not know how much more he could take. The Governor was breathing down his neck about Steve's being gone yet again. There was another matter that he had also been checking on Lexi. He knew that Steve probarly feeling guitly about leaving during her pregnancy. He heard his phone ring.
"It's about time you called me." Danny said after looking at the caller id.
"Sorry, we have been working on the mission for my mom. It's almost done. I should be home within the next two weeks." Steve revealed to his friend with a smile.
"Good, you can take care of the Governor and your wife." Danny revealed to his friend.
"So let me guess that the Governor has been driving you nuts for the past couple of days." Steve responded to his friend. "I am sorry about Lexi if she is the one doing it."
"Just a bit." Danny responded to his friend. "But it has not been Lexi. She has not been so bad. It's mostly the Governor."
"I know. I should be back soon and hopefully that will help with the Governor." Steve responded to his friend.
"Yeah let's hope so." Danny responded to his friend.
Steve and Danny were able to talk for a few minutes before Steve went to bed. Danny hoped that Steve had called Lexi before he called him.
A few days later, Lexi walked into headquarters to find Danny sitting in his office. Danny looked up right as she walked into his office.
"Hey, did you hear from Steve?" Danny asked his friend with a smile.
"Yeah, I talk to him for a little bit a few days ago and then this morning. He is coming home today." Lexi responded to her friend with a smile.
"I am glad that he is coming home to be with you and then also deal with the Governor." Danny responded to his friend.
"Yeah." Lexi responded to him. "Wait what is going on?"
"The Governor wants to know when he will be back." Danny revealed to his friend with a smile.
Lexi stayed at headquarters for a few hours before heading home to a surprise. She was surprised right when she pulled into the driveway to find Steve's truck parked there. She got out of her car and walked to the front door. Steve had seen his wife pulled into the driveway and headed outside to greet her.
"Hey." Steve said to her with a smile before giving her a small kiss. "I miss you both so much."
"We missed you too. I am so happy that you are home again." Lexi responded to her husband before giving him a small hug.
"Listen, I have to tell you something." Steve revealed to her.
"What is it?" Lexi asked her husband.
"I managed to bring my mom back with me. She is going to stay with us for a few days if that is okay with you." Steve revealed to her.
"Yes that is more than fine. As long as she remembers that you and Cath are only friends and that you aren't getting back together with her." She responded to him.
"Babe, she knows that we are married and have a baby on the way. There is no chance that I am going to give up that." Steve responded to his wife.
"Okay." She responded to him. "Let's go inside."
Lexi and Steve went inside when Doris came out of the kitchen. Doris walked over to Lexi and gave her a hug.
"I can't believe that my little boy is going to have a baby." Doris said to her.
"Yeah, we are having a baby in the next few months. We are so excited for the baby to be here." She revealed to her mother-in-law. "Thank you for sharing your excitment with having a grandbaby on the way."
The next morning, Steve got up and smiled knowing hat he was at home. He really wished that he could spend time with Lexi and his mom today but he had to go back into work. He had to face the team and the Governor no matter what. He got out of bed and headed for his run. By the time that he got back from his run, Lexi was outside waiting for him.
"How come you didn't wake me up this morning?" Lexi asked her husband with a smile as she handed him the water bottle.
"Because you needed your sleep." Steve responded to her with a smile.
"Aw you are too sweet." Lexi responded to her husband as she watched him give her a small kiss on her forehead. "Are you nervous about going back into work today."
"Just a bit." Steve responded to her with a smile but I know that I need to do it." Steve responded to her as they walked inside. "I am probably in trouble for leaving again with the Governor but he needs to understand that I did it for my family. I had to go save my mom for both Mary and Joan."
"Hey, I understand why you did it and you don't have to explain it to me." She said as she reached for his hand.
"I know but I have to go and get ready for today." Steve said to her before giving her one last kiss before heading upstairs.
Lexi walked into the kitchen to find that her mother-in-law was awake. She walked over to get a glass for water.
"Is Steve okay?" Doris asked her daughter-in-law.
"Yeah he is fine." She responded to her.
"Look, I know that you are not happy that he brought me here but I feel that we need to have a little bit of chat." Doris responded to her daughter-in-law before Steve came walking into the room.
"Alright, I will see you guys later." Steve responded to his mom and wife. "I love you."
"Love you too." Lexi said to her husband before giving him a kiss. "Please be safe."
"I will." Steve responded to her with a smile. "Bye mom."
"Bye." Doris said to her son with a smile.
Doris waited for her son to leave the house before going to the talk that she was looking forward to protect Steve and Catherine's future.
"What did you want to talk about?" Lexi asked her mother-in-law.
"I want you leave my son and move on with your life. You should raise my grandchild with someone that truly loves you and doesn't want to be with Catherine." Doris said to her.
"Did Steve say that he wanted to be with her because I know for a fact that my husband doesn't want to be with her. He wants to be with me and this baby. You need to be out of my house by the end of the night." Lexi responded to her.
"Good thing that this is my and my son's house so you can't kick me out." Doris responded to her.
"Well it's not your house. John left it to my husband and Mary. Steve promised me that you would not try to talk about Catherine. He said that you promised him and then lie to him." She said before pulling out the phone to call her husband.
"Who are you calling?" Doris asked before reaching for the phone.
"You don't get to reach for my phone." She said as she pushed back. Doris ended up pushing her back causing her to hit the table right around her stomach. Doris watched as she cry out in pain.
"Lexi, hold on. I am going to get you help." Doris responded to her daughter-in-law before calling 911.
About ten minutes later, the paramedics showed up to take Lexi to the hospital. Doris ended up driving her own car to the hospital. She could not believe that she just put her own grandchild at risk in order to get Steve back with Catherine. She was deep in thought when Steve and Danny arrived.
"Mom!" Steve said as they came running up to her. "What happen to Lexi?"
"She fell down and hit her stomach on the table." Doris responded to him. "I was in the kitchen when I heard her fall down."
"Okay, I am going to check on my wife." Steve responded leaving Danny and Doris there together. Danny did not believe a word that Doris was saying because he knew that she wanted her son with Catherine.
Steve walked over to his wife's room to find her sleeping with fetal heart monitors attached to her stomach. Steve sat next to his wife and waited for her to wake.
"Honey, I am so sorry that this happen. I should have stayed home with you girls. I don't know what happen but trust me when you wake up, I will find out." Steve said to Lexi as she was sleeping. "I just need you to wake up and tell me what happen."
Steve sat there for a few minutes when both Doris and Danny came walking into the room.
"Steve, is she going to be okay? Is the baby going to be okay?" Doris asked her son.
"From what the door said that she will be okay. We just don't know about my baby right now." Steve responded to her.
"This would never happen if you would be with Catherine." Doris said to her son.
"Mom, just stop. If I wanted to be with her then I would be with. Why don't you tell me what really happened because I will find out when she wakes up and tells me what happen. I don't believe that she just fell on her own. I think that you said something that made her upset and she fought back so you pushed my wife. You put my wife and baby here. Danny arrest her and then get her out of my sight." Steve said to her and then Danny.
Lexi woke up about an hour later to find Steve still sitting there. She reached for her head and rubbed it.
"Steve, where am I?" She said to her husband.
"Lexi, thank God that you are awake. You are in the hospital. Can you tell me what happen?" Steve asked her.
"I don't know what happen." Lexi said to her husband.
"Are you sure?" Steve question his wife.
"Yeah." She responded to him. "Did someone hurt me?"
"I don't know. I am going to check the cameras when we get home." Steve responded to his wife. "We are going to be okay."
"Okay." She responded to her husband with a smile.
Lexi ended up being at the hospital for about a week. Meanwhile, Danny and Doris were in the interview room.
"Danny, I did not push her. She fell." Doris said to him.
"You are lying and the minute that Lexi wakes up, we are going to find out what happened to her. So why don't you tell me what really happen?" Danny responded to her.
"I have told you and Steve what happen. It was an accident on her part. She fell." Doris said to him again as Danny got up and walked out of the room.
