Author Note: I meant to post this chapter a lot faster than what I have done. I orginally planned to post this on Labor day. We decided to write this chapter following 9/11/01. Today is a very a hard day for Americans.

Chapter 6

Steve remembered the day were everything came down for the nation that he loved. He remember waking up that morning to a phone call.

- Flashback -

Steve woke up early that morning before Lexi. He had gotten out of bed and headed to the bathroom when he heard his phone vibrate. He was happy that they left their phones out of the bedroom which he knew would not wake up his girlfriend. He walked over to where his phone was at.

"Hello?" Steve answered the phone.

"Commander, you are needed to report to the base in two hours. The twin towers have been attack and we need to deploy the SEALS to help out." the man on the phone said.

"Okay, I am going to get ready to go." Steve responded before hanging up the phone. He walked back to the bedroom to find his girlfriend sitting on the bed.

"Hey, we need to talk." Steve said to his girlfriend before sitting next to her.

"Hey, what is going on?" Lexi responded to her boyfriend.

"I just got a call. There was an attack in Washington and they want to deploy the SEALS team." Steve responded to his girlfriend.

"Do you know how long you will be gone?" Lexi responded to her boyfriend.

"no but I will keep you updated. I don't want you getting on a plane until I am back. I need to know that you are safe." Steve responded to her.

"I understand. Do we know anything else?" She said to him before standing up from the bed.

"Nothing yet but I am sure that it's all over the news." Steve said to her before he got up himself.

They headed to living room and turned on the TV. They switched the channel to the news to find out what is going on.

"Oh my goodness, Steve. They destroyed both towers and also the penetagon. Are we sure that it's even safe for you to go?" She asked worried.

"Yeah I am sure that it's fine. We are awaiting orders from President Bush." Steve said to her. "Listen, I need to get pack and go."

"Okay." She said before he left the room. "Oh my God, there is another plane crash. Steve!"

"What?" He said running out of the room with his bag.

"There was another plane crash." She responded to him.

"Where did they hit?" Steve asked her.

"Nothing. They crashed into an empty field." She responded to him.

"I need to go." Steve said to her before giving her a small kiss and a hug.

Lexi watched as he left the apartment. She watched him get into his truck and drive away. She really hoped that he would be okay.

Steve got to the base in record time. It only took about fifeteen minutes. He knew that this would be a hard thing for everyone to hear. He walked over to Catherine.

"Hey, did you heard about what happen?" Catherine asked him.

"There was an attack in Washington today. We are just waiting for the President to announce that we are going to war." Steve responded to his friend.

"Hopefully it's soon. The sooner we find out what is going on, the sooner we get back to the new normal." She responded to him.

"Yeah. We need to find out who did this to hunt them down." Steve responded to her with a smile.

"Let's go." She responded to him as they went into the comand center. They were debrief on everything that they knew. Right as they boarded the plane, Steve pulled out his phone.

"Hold on a second. I need to call Lexi really quick." Steve said to Catherine real fast before walking over some place that there was not any one by him.

"Hello?" Lexi answered the phone.

"Hey, it's me. I am going to be out of the country for the next couple of weeks. I will keep you updated as much as I can." Steve responded to her.

"Okay, just promise me that you will be safe." She said to him.

"I promise that I will be safe. Check in with my dad." Steve responded to his girlfriend.

"I will." She responded to him.

"Hey, I have to go. I love you." Steve said to her with a small smile.

"I love -." She started to say before the line went down. Lexi went back to watching the news. She hoped that everyone would be okay that is going over there to help out.

Three months went by and Lexi did not hear a word from him. It made hard for her to deal with the whole thing not hearding if he was okay. Lexi was getting ready for work when she heard something from the living room. She reached over and grabbed the gun that Steve left in the bathroom. She opened the door and pointed the gun towards the living room.

"Who is there?" She said to the introduer. She walked towards the living room and turned the corner to find a full grown bread Steve. "Steve, you are back?"

"Yeah but can you do me a favor and put the gun down?" Steve responded to her with a question.

"Yeah, I am sorry." She responded to him with a smile. "I am just glad that you are back home."

"Lexi, I am going to have to go away for a little bit longer but I took a small break so I can do something for us." Steve revealed to her with a small smile.

"What is that?" She asked him.

"You will find out later." He promised her.
