This is a story that is loosely based off the fanfiction The Heart of an Imprint that was never completed. I love Paul/Bella pairings as well as Jasper/Bella pairing there is one pairing that I think would be good and that is the return of Ephraim Black. I hope you enjoy.
No one's POV
Bella Swan had always known that she was not normal. However, she had thought that she had found her place within the Supernatural world. She was wrong. She was abandoned and betray by two of its species. With the help of one Peter Whitlock, a person she had never met. She left Forks, Washington in the dead of night after her graduation from Port Angeles Community College for business management.
He helped her find a school that would allow her time to pursue a dream. She was always good in biology and chemistry. She created the idea while in school as dreams forgotten began to resurface. She wanted to create a diner that could service everyone including the Supernatural. She specifically studied hematology and metabolism for this purpose. She used Peter as a test subject, though she had never met the man personally, yet. He would leave venom for her to study. She studied the venom and how it acted with blood and food under a microscope.
She tried many different combinations. She thought she found a way for venom to dissolve food. It was with a combination of human and animal blood. She would have Peter test it out over the next two years. She discovered that the blood had to be frozen for at least three months and blended with alcohol and could only mix with only a few types of food mostly being baked goods, mixed alcoholic drinks and smoothies and certain meats but no fresh vegetables unless very finely chopped and baked or broiled.
Peter helped her get the permits to maintain and get the blood. Her first diner opened a year before she finished school with a bachelor's degree in hematology. It was two years after she left Forks. It was a success. It was not till it was open for six months before she got the first order off the hidden menu. She was gifted with a large tip.
Peter helped her to find someone to run her first diner. A year after opening her first diner, she opened her second one near a reservation in the eastern PA after her graduation. To her surprise; they too had shifters. She tried her new ideas about food. She was able to create a meal and diet plan specifically for shifters.
By the end of the second year of opening her first diner, she had numerous requests from the supernatural community for diners. She called Peter after feeling overwhelmed. It was the first time she had met Peter and learned that he was Jasper's brother. He helped her to incorporate her business and find people to help with the sudden mass expansion. Within the next two years, she went to having only two diners to having over 50 diners.
It was another two years before she saw Peter again though they spoke frequently. She had taken up resident and personal involvement with her diner in Arizona just outside the largest tribal community in Arizona. She had learned many things. One that not all guardians were shapeshifters, but some were vampires. It had been believed that the Hopi and some Pueblo tribes died of starvation and disappeared. It was not true; they had become vampires. It was one of them and a sister of a shifter that does most of the managing of this diner while she focused on her biggest project. "Morning Sug."
"Morning Peter."
"I love what you've done to yourself." He looked over her shiny brown hair with natural red highlights. However, it was the dark skinny jeans and leather jacket that surprised him.
"Thanks. What brings you around after two years?" She asked as she removed her jacket and began to take stock.
"The Volturi have heard about your diners and special menus." He stated as he leaned against the counter.
"So, do I need to start planning my death?" She stated as she began making notes.
"I dunno. I am not getting any other information. I just know that members of the Volturi will be here today." He stated as he moved his hand through his hair which meant he was nervous. She walked into the kitchen and began to start prepping several things.
"Do you know how many?" She asked without stopping.
"No. Why are you so calm?" Peter leaned against her freezer.
He watched as she moved closer to him and placed a hand on his arm. "What will be will be? We always knew that I would eventually come to their attention. I am not afraid of them, or what they may do." She turned and began prepping.
"I promised Jasper to watch out for you and keep you safe." Peter sighed.
"You and Charlotte have done a wonderful job and will continue to do so. So, relax. Now go take seat. I have much to prepare and inform my staff about today when they arrive soon." She smiled as Peter sighed.
Peter watched throughout the day. It was nightfall an hour before closing when he tensed as two large black SUVs parked. He moved to the counter to be closer to Bella as he watched the three kings, and immediate guards step out of the vehicles. He watched as the nine of them came and took up two booths. He watched as Bella smiled and purposefully walked over to the table. He had to keep from groaning.
"It is an honor to serve the Volturi, this evening. What can I get for you this evening?" She smiled at them as she spoke softly.
"You know who we are." Caius the blonde king stated with a frown.
"I recognize Marcus, Aro and you, Caius; however, I do not know you or your guards." She continued to smile.
"Are you not afraid?" The large guard asked.
"No, why should I be? I have known of the supernatural world since, I was 17. I have met many since then." She continued to smile. "I have other customers. I will return shortly for your order." She moved back behind the counter and grabbed a tray to deliver to another table.
She walked back over to the table. "Are you ready to order?"
She heard Marcus gasp. She turned to him as he reached across Alec and took her wrist. "You were bitten."
"Yes, in the spring before I turned 18." She flinched and used her shield to free her wrist. "So, what can I get for you?" Each gave their order.
Peter stiffened again as the leader of the Hopi vampire coven, and the alpha of the Maricopa pack walked in and took a seat not far from the Volturi. Bella walked up to their table and gave each a hug. "It is so good to see you Blackfoot and Bloodbear. Would you like your usual order?"
"Yes, Bella. When are you gonna to agree to marry me?" Blackfoot smiled.
"When you can become a wolf." She smiled back as she submitted the order. She walked over to Peter and hugged him. "Relax, brother." She slid him a Bloody Mary.
"They continue to watch you. I do not like it." Peter stated near her ear.
"I know. It will be okay."
She quickly served the food to Volturi when it came up and then delivered the food to her friends. She waited till it was closing time. All her customers had left except for the Volturi and her friends. She locked the door and put up the close sign. She took a deep breath and faced the Volturi.
"What would you like to know?" She leaned against the counter near Peter with her arms over her chest.
"How did you learn about vampires?" Marcus asked in a gentle tone.
She began her sad tale. A tale that only Peter knew about second hand from his brother. He wrapped his arm around her and pulled her to his chest to provide comfort. He kept his arms wrapped around her waist, and his head on her shoulder as she continued her tale. It was something that the Volturi noticed. Everyone was saddened and angered by her tale. "You know our laws." Aro stated with a gleam.
"I do." She sighed. She felt Peter hold her tighter.
"So, you know what must happen." Aro gleamed again. It sent a foreboding shiver down Bella's spine.
"I would not be too hasty." Blackfoot stated as he moved in front of Bella. "It has been seen and heard by many Guardian tribes including my own that this one is the mate of an Alpha Guardian. Therefore, your laws are not broken." Bella gasped at hearing this information and began thinking about a red wolf.
"How do we know for sure that you are not lying?" Aro stated.
"Her diners are called Wolf's Den. She is destined for a wolf whose times has not come." Blackfoot stated.
"Regardless of her destiny, I cannot allow you to change or kill this innocent girl." Bloodbear stated as he moved to stand next to Blackfoot. "She has been through more than enough. She has yet to reveal anyone's secret."
"Her diners leave our secret open. They are managed individually." Caius stated.
"If you go to each diner; then you will find that the managers and chefs and staff are members of the supernatural. So, no secrets are being revealed to those that do not already know." Peter stated.
"Please, there is no need for this. I am no one special. Did I know this day would come? Yes. Do I want to be changed? No. However, I am not worth starting a war." Bella sighed.
"That is where you are wrong, Bella. You are incredibly special. You have the heart of an Alpha mother. You hold people accountable by their actions and intent. You hold no grudges or prejudices." Mia Blackfoot stepped out of the kitchen.
Bella laughed. "That is where you are wrong. I do hold grudges and dark desires of revenge."
"You have good reason for those grudges. I know that you would never act on those desires. Those desires are natural for all that you have survived." Darrin Swiftfoot stated as he came out of the kitchen.
To everyone's shock, it was the young blonde of the guard that moved and spoke next. "I thought no one could ever understand what me and my twin went through when our village turned against us and tried to burn us at the stake. It took us centuries to get to where you got in a few short years. You are strong. You deserve to see where your life may lead." She turned to her leaders but focused on Marcus. "I ask that you spare her life for now. I know the Volturi cannot seem weak; however, the Guardians have spoken for her. As we all know, we cannot risk a war with them."
It was then that Peter smiled as information came to him. "How about a compromise?"
"What would you suggest, Captain Whitlock?" Caius asked.
"Give her 6 years. If she has not found, her mate; then I WILL change her." Peter stated. "She has been part of the Whitlock coven, since the Cullens abandoned her on her 18th birthday. She will always be part of the Whitlock coven regardless of her human status. If she must be changed; then it will be Whitlock venom that changes, her. If you want to argue with that; then you can take it up with my coven leader, the God of War, himself." Peter spoke in a way that allowed no room arguments.
"I believe that is agreeable." Marcus stated. Then he smiled for the first time in over 500 years. "I only have one issue."
Bella sighed. "What might that be?"
"I cannot enjoy this food upon my return Italy. I have missed eating." Marcus smiled.
Bella laughed. "I can see if there was a means to overnight the food or just send you the recipes to have someone make them there. I would have to look at International patents and copyrights."
"Or you could Sug open a diner in Volterra. I have already looked into global expansions." Peter kissed her cheek.
"Hmm. I like it. How would it work, you know I only keep 45% of the profits for myself?" She was looking at Peter.
The Volturi were shocked. "Where does the other 55% go?" Demetri asked with curiosity.
"Well, 10% goes to Swan's Blood Bank foundation, 20% goes to Swan's Tribal Foundation and the rest goes to Swan's Quileute Foundation." Peter stated.
"What are the blood banks for?" Alec asked.
"It breaks down this way 60% goes to local hospitals or flown to areas of recent natural disasters. 30% is distributed to vampires from various locations and the rest are stored and distributed to Wolf's Den diners. The distribution facilities are managed and worked surprisingly by Fairies." Peter stated.
Bella started to yawn. "This has truly been wonderful. However, I must get some rest."
"Just one more question, what made you want to distribute blood to vampires?" Alec asked with curiosity.
"Simple. Jasper Whitlock. All this was designed for two reasons. Jasper was abused and made to think less of himself. He is an empath, so his control is strong but around several other vampires is much harder to control with just animal blood. I wanted to find a way to make it easier for him. The other reason is Guardians have extremely high metabolisms and go through a lot of food. I wanted to see if there was a way for them to eat less food without feeling starved or hungry. It was never designed to take away anyone's nature. I know not all vampires are bad. I know that not all are comfortable killing humans. I also figured it would be an easier way to aide with newborns and help ease their transitions to walking among humans. I am currently working to find a way to create a cream that could hopefully allow vampires to walk in the sun without sparkling. I am only in the beginning stages of research. I need to find why the venom causes the skin to sparkle first." Bella shrugged as if it was not a big deal. Everyone one was looking at her as if she was a had closed her eyes and leaned further into Peter. "I know the secret is important to keep; however, there are some humans that have excellent observation skills."
She turned to Swiftfoot. "You can lockup, correct?" He nodded. "Drive me home Peter. I am too tired to drive."
"That is one special human." Marcus stated softly as Peter closed the door behind him and Bella.
Unknown POV
I do not know why everything was clearing. I knew it must be important. I watched with my brothers as trouble and strife tore through the tribe. We watched as division began in the largest pack of our history. I was confused as my brothers to learn that the division was over a girl not part of the tribe. It confused and anger some of us.
However, we watched. We saw the battle with the red head. We saw as she healed and cared for the pack. We watched her heart get broken by the pack. We watched as her world was destroyed. We watched as a pack member told lies. We watched the beating and distrust that she was given by a father that never loved her and only abused her like her mother.
We watched as she received information from an unknown source. We watched as she moved through life. We watched as she worked with vampires. We watched as she created the diner. We watched as she discovered and worked with other guardians. We watched the visit with the Vampire kings. We were shocked and learned of her generous heart for our people.
We watched over 10 years of hers and the tribe lives. Hers was expanding and increasing while the tribe truly began to suffer. We could feel it in the air. Something big was about to happen and something life changing. We watched the girl receive a call. "Hey, sug."
"Hey Petey."
"It is time. It is time to go home. Your people are going to need you."
"Everything is not ready."
"No, but it is does not need to be. They will need only what your heart and soul can provide. You know this."
"I still have so much anger. They will not be welcoming."
"Not all will be. The construction is almost complete. It is time. The paperwork and grants should arrive just after you."
"I do not think that I can face them."
"You can, Sug. You were never in the wrong. They were. I must go. Love ya."
"Send Jasper, my love and thanks."
"Who knows you might be seeing him, soon?"
We watched, but I noticed a certain brother was touched deeply moved by this girl. I should not have been surprised. I mean he was the one that created a treaty with a coven of vampires. I could only wait to see what the Great Spirits had in store.
Seth's POV
He walked into Sam's house. "Hey, has anyone noticed the construction work going on just outside of the rez?"
"I am not sure what it is. I have heard rumors that our elder craftsmen received quite a bit of money for some work they did. They could be linked." Paul stated.
"Is baby alpha going to show?" Jared asked.
"No. This is just a meeting for us which I will order to keep this meeting silent." Sam stated. He looked directly at each of us: Paul, Jared, Embry, Brady, and Colin. Sam turned and looked at his wife. "Bella has returned."
I was not the only one to gasps. Everyone in the room did. "Are you sure? How did you find out, because not even her father knows?" I asked.
"I saw her in the airport in Seattle when I was dropping my cousin off to return home." Sam stated.
"That does not mean that she has returned to Forks." Jared stated.
"True. However, this morning, I watched from the forest as two moving vans were being unloaded to a newly renovated house. I listened as she directed the movers." Sam stated.
"Why would she return after 10 years of nothing? She left us." Paul stated with a slight growl.
"I always thought there was more to her leaving. I knew she cared about us. It is not a coincidence that she left soon after Jacob imprinted on Jessica Stanley." Emily stated. She smiled to her husband. "When can we go see her?"
"I would give her time to settle and see if she comes to us." Sam stated.
Everyone began talking. I could not help the joy at the thought that I would soon have my sister back. I listened as Sam gave the order to not reveal anything about this meeting. I left to return to my own place to think. As I entered my apartment, I could not help feeling something was about to happen.
Two weeks later,
Emily's POV
I walked into the store owned by the Ateara's for some groceries. I was walking down an aisle when a cart hit me from behind. I turned. There was a stranger. I had never seen her on the rez. I could tell that she was Native American. She had long black hair and wearing jeans and a sweater that appeared to be Native designed. "I am so sorry. I was not paying attention. I was running down a mental list of things to get."
"It is no problem. I have done the same a time or two." Emily smiled liking the woman already. "I am Emily Uley. Are you new to the rez?"
"My name is Mia Blackfoot. Yes, I just moved to the area; however, I do not live on the rez. I live just outside of the rez. I am part of the Maricopa tribe in Arizona just outside of Phoenix." I watched as the woman held out her hand.
We continued down the aisle together. "I had a friend that was from Phoenix. She left the area 10 years ago without a goodbye." I stated. "Did you move by yourself?"
"No. I came with my brother, but he is only staying for another month. Then it will only be me and three other friends that are remaining." I listened as the woman spoke. "So, what do you do? Do you have job?"
"No, I do not work. I spend most of my time cooking and taking of care of my children when they are out of school. There are not many jobs around here and none on the rez." I frowned.
"Would you like to work?" I watched as Mia moved to checkout.
"I would not mind, but as I stated nothing around here. I am not really qualified for anything." I stated.
I watched as the woman waited for me to checkout. She walked outside with me. She stopped at a nice looking 4x4 Chevy Blazer. "Come to this address tomorrow. I would ask that you keep it to yourself till after you come. I think you are someone I can work with, but I cannot promise anything. I am not sure when we will open."
I was hesitant. "I do not keep things from my husband."
"I can understand it. It is just for tonight and the morning. I am sure that you will not be disappointed." She smiled at me.
I bit my lip. "Could I bring someone with me? She is a dear friend, and the wife of a close friend to my husband."
I watched the woman frown. "What is her name? What can she do?"
"She does have a high school diploma. She does not cook very well, but she is very energetic and outgoing. Her name is Kim Cameron."
"If she can keep it quiet; then I see no harm. I cannot promise anything." The woman smiled.
"I will see you around 9 in the morning." I stated. "It was a pleasure meeting you." I watched her nod her agreement and finished loading her groceries. I quickly moved to the truck and loaded it. I knew my Sam and Jared were at work. I called Kim and asked her to meet me at the house.
I drove the five minutes to the house and began to unload the bags. I was just getting the last of them when I heard Kim pull up behind the truck. "Is everything okay? You sounded excited."
"If I tell you something; then can you promise not to tell Jared till tomorrow." I said as I placed the last two bags on the table.
"You know I do not keep secrets."
"I know. Neither do I. I just have a good feeling about this. I just want to make sure I am correct." I stated as I started to put the groceries away.
"What happened?"
I proceed to tell her all about me meeting Mia and what she said. "I cannot help but get a feeling it is about that new construction and the return of Bella. Please, say you will come with me."
"I will; however, I will tell Jared only if he specifically asks about it. I will not lie to him." I watched her frown.
She kept me company as I began to cook. I packaged a dish for her to take home. I helped the kids with their homework and got them all washed for dinner. Of course, my Sam arrived as I finished putting the food on the table. I kept the conversation lite.
The next morning, I tried to keep my excitement down to not arouse suspicion. I dropped my kids off at school. I quickly changed into nice blouse and slacks. I picked up Kim, who was dressed similarly. I followed the directions on the paper. We pulled around a large, covered building. I parked next to the Chevy Blazer that I noticed Mia drove.
"I am not sure about this." Kim stated.
"Everything will be okay. I have a good feeling." I watched a door open just past the covering. I nudged Kim to look as I saw Mia step partially outside.
I got out of the truck. "Mia, I would like to introduce my friend, Kim Cameron."
I watched as Mia smiled. "It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Mia Blackfoot. Follow me." I held on to Kim as we moved through what appeared to be a long hallway. The moment I walked through the swinging door, I gasped. "Welcome to Wolf's Den. This the 75th diner that is about to open. However, it is the largest of the chain, and will be the home office."
I could not help myself. I walked to a portion of the wall with a lone black wolf that reminded me of my Sam. I noticed that Kim did the same to one that resembled Jared's wolf. I noticed that I could see each of the 10 wolves represented on this portion of the wall just smaller than their actual size. I looked around the diner and at the tables. I could see wolves in different eras. I could not help but wonder how they knew.
I could not help but look at the details. I could see the work of our craftsmen. "How long has the chain been around?" Kim asked.
"I am not sure, but I believe the first diner opened about 9 years ago." Mia stated.
"You would be correct, Mia. I opened it March 21, 2008 just outside of New York City." A voice that I never thought I would hear again spoke.
I slowly turned around as did Kim. "Bella?" I spoke softly. She wore no makeup; however, she never needed any. She was still pale; however, it was a shiny healthy pale. Her hair was just past her shoulders. She was still small just not unhealthy small. She was in dark skinny jeans with a similar Native American designed sweater.
"It is nice to see you again, Emily and Kim." She gave a hesitant smile but made no move to bridge the gap. "I was glad that Mia was able to locate and reach out to you. I am just not sure I am ready to see the pack or anyone else."
I frowned with her speaking about the pack in front of Mia. "I can see your concern. Mia knows about the pack." I truly was angry. She knew she was not supposed to talk about the pack. She held up her hand before I could speak. "I assure you it will be okay. Let me introduce her brother Cyan Blackfoot."
I grabbed Kim's hand as a 6ft coyote walked into the diner from the back. "Cyan is Mia's brother and Alpha of his pack. I was quite shocked to learn that Quileute's were not the only tribe out there with Spirit Warriors. I was more shocked to learn that not all Guardians, as they are known, are shapeshifter. Some became vampires."
Both Kim and I gasped. "You remember in American History where it teaches that most of the Hopi and Pueblo tribes just disappeared." They only nodded. "They did not disappear but became vampires to protect their people from plagues and murdering settlers. Let me introduce a good friend, Darrin Swiftfoot. As you can see, I have only shared the knowledge within the Supernatural community."
"How can you work alongside a vampire?" Kim asked Cyan as he walked back into the room.
"Simple. He is a good guy. Guardians were created to protect the tribe from only those that wish to harm them. I can assure it was not the Cullens that started the new pack but the state of the tribe." Cyan stated.
"Why did you come back?" Kim asked as I turned my focus back to Bella.
"It was always my intention to return. This is where my heart is. I just could not remain then." Bella spoke with sadness.
"Why did you leave without a goodbye?" I spoke softly.
"I left a letter for the pack. I assumed you had to receive it. I was told that I was not allowed on Quileute land anymore. I am sorry you did not get the letter. You would have to ask Charlie or Jacob about it." Bella stated through gritted teeth.
"What happened?" Kim stated.
"It is not something I am ready to speak about, and when I do it will be to the pack as well. So, I need a waitress and sous chef. Would you be interested?" Bella asked.
"We would have to talk to Sam or Jared. They will not like us working with a vampire." I stated.
"So, they still hold tight to their prejudices. Since my diners cater to all races including vampires; then they will need to get over it." Bella shrugged.
"If you could let me know by March 21; then I would appreciate it. It is when I am doing my grand opening." I watched as she slid a piece of paper towards me. "This is my number. I do not want anyone showing up here or at my home unannounced. I must leave. I have someone in Seattle that I need to meet. It was nice seeing you again."
I watched Bella leave with Cyan and Darrin through another swinging door. I watched as Mia motioned us to follow through the same door we came through. "It will be a long while before she will trust anyone from here. I can assure that if anyone hurts her even emotionally; then they will have to face at least 20 different tribes of Guardians and that does not include several nomadic vampires or the Volturi. She loves La Push and the Quileute people though I do not see why since you all have only hurt her including the people of Forks. You two seem like decent people. I know that Bella has spoken fondly of you two over the last 5 years that I have known her. She is a loving and selfless person. I hope you make the correct choice. I hope you have a good day." I watched as she started to close the door but stopped. "I would suggest you go home shower and wash your clothes before your men come home. Don't forget to air out the house. I would suggest a cleaning frenzy."
I watched as she closed the door. I had so much running through my mind. One look at Kim spoke the same for her. We closed the door to the truck. "She never forgot us." I spoke as I turned the key.
"I do not understand. Billy nor Sam would not have told her that she was no longer allowed on the rez. Why did we not get the letter? Why would they keep it from us?" Kim stated as I headed back to La Push.
"I dunno. I always felt that something was not right. How about a private dinner with our men tonight? We can feed the kids early or see if Jared's parents are willing to watch them." I stated.
Kim quickly called Jared's parents. "They said that they will get them from school and keep them overnight. I sent a message to Jared saying we are having dinner at your house. I think I still have clothes at your house that fits. This way we only need to clean one house and truck."
"I agree. I should probably make extra food." I stated as I pulled up to my house.
We rushed through my house and quickly in the bathrooms to get showered. I began to open the windows and began to start cleaning as Kim put our clothes in the washing. She sprayed air freshener through house and began to clean the living room.
We were just about to start setting the table when our men showed. We pointed for them to get washed up before dinner. Jared was the first one to finish. "Where are the kids?" He leaned in and kissed his wife.
"They are all with your parents." I heard Kim speak as I began to place the food on the table.
Sam sat down with a frown when he noticed his and Jared's favorite food. "What did you do?"
"What do you mean?" I leaned to kiss him as I took my seat.
I watched as Sam smiled. "You, two, either did something or want something. It is the only time you make our favorites unless it is a birthday or anniversary."
Kim nodded as she poured the drinks. "I guess you could say it is both. I just ask that you listen completely and not interrupt us."
Kim took her seat as their men nodded. "I went to the store to get some groceries, yesterday." The men nodded. "I was looking at something when someone accidently hit me with their cart. I looked up and it was a woman I had never seen before on the rez. Her name was Mia Blackfoot, and she had just moved here from Arizona with a few friends. She asked if I was interested in working. I said that I wouldn't mind, however, there were no jobs available on the rez or in Forks. She gave me an address and told me to come this morning by myself and not tell anyone."
I could see the men getting angry. "Please, let me finish. I asked if I could bring Kim. She agreed, but we had to not say anything till after the meeting. I called Kim, and she agreed."
I could see the men getting angry. "I had good a feeling about the meeting. I could not help but remember that Bella moved from Arizona to Forks. I could not help but remembering what Seth said about the construction just outside of the rez. I just knew that it had something to do with Bella. I was right."
I nodded to Kim. "The address was a large, covered building just outside the rez. Mia met us outside. She led us through a hallway, when we stepped through a set of swinging doors, we were stunned. She said 'Welcome to Wolf's Den.' The walls, floors, tables, and counter were pictures of wolves in various eras including the current pack just in smaller forms. I would recognize them anywhere." I watched as Kim took a sip of her tea.
"She said it would be the 75th diner but the largest and would serve as home base for all the other diners. I had asked when the first one opened. Mia said she thought it was 9 years ago but did not sound too sure. Then another female voice that I would never forget spoke. 'You would be correct, Mia. I opened it March 21, 2008 just outside of New York City.' It was Bella."
I took over for Kim, so she could eat some more. "She stated that she was glad that Mia could locate us because she was not ready to see the pack. She said that Mia knew about the pack. Her brother comes in from the back as a 6ft coyote. It seems that there are several other tribes like ours. She even stated that not all tribe Guardians were shifters, but some were vampires. She reminded us about history lessons about the disappearance of the Hopi and Pueblo tribes. They did not disappear. The Spirits made them vampires. Her chef is a Hopi vampire named Darrin Swiftfoot. Mia's brother is Cyan Blackfoot who is a Lieutenant in the Phoenix Police Department and alpha of his pack. She said that her diner caters to all races even all the Supernatural."
I took a sip of my tea and pushed my plate to the side. I kept my focus on Sam for this next part. "Kim asked why she left without saying goodbye. She stated that she left a letter for the pack. I told her we did not get any letter. She said that we would have to speak to Jacob or her dad. She left the letter, because she was told that she was no longer allowed on Quileute land. She asked if I wanted to work for her as sous chef, and Kim as a waitress. We told her that we must speak with you and Jared. She slid her phone number down the counter. She asked that we let her know before March 21 when she has the grand opening."
"Only the elders and I have the authority to refuse to allow someone on Quileute land." Sam growled. I was surprised that it was the first thing that he would question.
"Could someone of the Elders bloodline do it?" Kim asked.
"Jacob." I gasped. "She did leave shortly after he imprinted."
"I will need to meet with her." Sam stated. I handed over her number. I watched Sam step outside with Jared.
Sam POV
I knew something was up when Jared stated they were eating at my house. I could never imagine I would learn what I did. I was struggling to believe that Jacob would do such a thing. It was unthinkable. He would have to know that the pack would not back his decision nor submit to him if he ever decided to take over the Alpha position. Unless he counted on the fact that Bella would not return; and therefore, the pack would never know. I just knew that I would have to call her.
I dialed the number and placed it on speakerphone. "Hello, Sam." I heard Bella's voice speak. I could not believe how good it was to hear her voice.
"How did you know it was me?" I stated.
"I figured you would call tonight or tomorrow depending on when Emily spoke to you."
"I would like to meet with you alongside Jared and Paul. It would have to take place before I agree to allow my imprint to work with a vampire." Sam stated.
"I am currently in Seattle. How about Saturday at 10am? I believe Emily still has the address. Will any of you be phased?"
"Is there enough space to fit a six-foot wolf?" Sam asked.
"Of course. It could probable fit five of your wolves." I could hear the smile in Bella's voice. "You think I would build a diner near the La Push without considering it."
I could see Jared grinning. "One of us will be phased then."
I heard her sigh. "If you are still doing patrols; then I would ask that whoever you have patrolling is someone you can trust and not Jacob."
"I can agree to that." I looked at Jared who nodded.
"I will see you, Saturday. Have a good night?" She hung up before I had a chance to say anything else.
I turned to Jared with a frown. "What do you think?"
"I think that she is angry and hurt. I would expect to see a large coyote for the first time. I would not be surprised to see the vampire there as well. I do wonder why she asked if one of would be phased." Jared looked up at the sky.
"She knows about the pack mind. I guess she was determining how much she would tell us. I will have you and Paul run patrol tomorrow night. I will have Brady and Colin run patrol Saturday morning."
I walked into the house. I told Emily about the meeting. However, she was not to speak to any of the other imprints about the meeting or seeing Bella. After Jared and Kim left, I took my wife upstairs for a long uninterrupted night.
The rest of the week seemed drag. I was not sure if that was a good thing. I waited outside Saturday morning for Paul and Jared. "How should we do this?" Jared stated.
"I would suggest we drive there make sure it is not visible by anyone and let me phase. I will make sure that it is only Brady and Colin phased." Paul stated.
"Will you be able to maintain control?" Sam asked.
"If I am already phased; then it should not be that hard." Paul shrugged.
"Alright let's get going." Sam stated as he moved to get in his truck. He followed the direction that Emily received. It literally was just outside of the rez borders. I drove down the long drive. I noticed that there was only a single Chevy Blazer in the parking lot near the back of the large, covered building.
I could see that there was no one around. "It is 9. Brady and Colin should be the only one phased now." I watch Paul move behind the truck as the large backdoor opened. I noticed that Paul nodded his head. I looked towards the backdoor. I saw a beautiful woman standing there. "I am Mia Blackfoot. You can follow me.
I watched as Jared held the door to make sure it would not shut on Paul. I noticed that Paul had no issues walking through it or the wide hallway. I heard Jared follow us after he closed the door. I moved through the swinging doors and was stunned. Emily was short on the details. I heard Paul stop as well. I noticed the wall that Emily was talking about. I moved towards it without thinking.
I placed my hands over my wolf. I saw my whole pack. I was deeply moved. "It is good to see you, Sam." I heard a voice that I would never have thought to hear again. It was then that I turned. There was Bella sitting in a booth next to Mia.
She looked healthier and more mature. You could hardly tell that she would be turning 30 in several months. I noticed a vampire standing behind her. However, he did not smell disgusting like other vampires. It was then that I notice that there was a large coyote sitting next to Mia but blocking the only means to the get to the vampire without leaping over Bella. It was strategic planning on their part.
"You are looking very lovely, Bella. I see that the time away has agreed with you." I smiled.
"Please, sit. I slid into the opposite side of the booth, so that I was directly across from Bella. Jared slid next to me. "I am sure Mia introduced herself. The coyote is Cyan Blackfoot. The man behind me is one of my chefs Darrin Swiftfoot."
I watched as she introduced me, Jared, and Paul. "Why does he not smell like other vampires?" I asked quickly.
"It could be that they were not bit but changed by their Spirits. I only know of three tribes that have vampires as Guardians. I have met two other tribes that are wolves. There are surprisingly several that shift into panthers, tigers, coyotes or bears. That is not the reason for this meeting. What would you like to know?" I watched her lean back. I noticed that the vampire gave her shoulder an encouraging squeeze.
"What happened?" Jared spoke first.
I watched her sigh and rub her forehead. "What the pack and no one else knew was that I never had a good childhood. My mother hated the fact that she did not have the freedom she wanted. I had to learn to fend and do things for myself by the time I was six. I seldom liked spending the summer with my father; however, till I turned 13 I could not stop it. Charlie hated me. He always made me feel like I was lesser being or slave. If something were not done how he liked it; then he would beat me in a way that would not be visible. He also never liked how close I was to my grandmother or great aunt Molly Ateara."
"I had to get away from Phoenix. Phil's friends were starting to make me uncomfortable though he did try to keep them from the house. It was a matter of two evils. I would be prefer getting slapped around by my father; than possibly raped. Edward was just as controlling and emotionally abusive as my father. It took him leaving and me going through withdrawals from his glamour that I realized that. I should have noticed that Jacob was not that much different from dad or Edward; however, I did not realize till I left."
I watched as Mia topped off her tea and placed two glasses in front on me and Jared. We snickered when she placed two large bowls on the floor. "It was a week after Jacob had imprinted. My father came home from work raging. He called me a whore and many other names as he beat me. He told me how he was informed that I was making sexual passes at Billy, Old Quil and a few members of the pack. I was told that I had a week to be out of his house. It was bad. I could barely make up to my room. I cleaned what I could. I locked my window and doors. I fell asleep crying.
"I woke the next morning barely able to move. I noticed that Charlie was gone. I pulled my suitcase and duffle bag out from under my bed. It was then that I heard someone knocking on the door. I looked out the window and saw a courier van. I was extremely puzzled. I hollered that I was coming, though it took almost five minutes to get down the stairs. I was asked to sign for a large heavy envelope.
"It took almost twice as long for me to go back up the stairs. The package was from a Peter Whitlock, who I learned later is the brother to Jasper Hale or Jasper Whitlock as he goes by now and has returned to his own coven. In the envelope was an unlimited Discover, American Express and Capital One Visa credit cards all in my name. It had a first-class ticket from Seattle to New York City. Also, in it was, the deed to the Cullen property, my new schedule for NYU, new phone, and two sets of keys one to a Chevy Blazer and another to my luxury condo which the deed was already in my name. The letter said to pack only things that I felt I could not replace or did want to leave behind.
"I spent most of the morning going through the house. I was in my closet when I felt a loose floorboard. However, before I could see what was under it. There was a loud pounding on the door. I was already in so much pain. I had started to open the door when Jacob barged through it. He looked so cold and angry. He called me a no-good worthless whore. He stated that the only reason the pack put up with me was because of him and Emily. He stated that no one wanted me around not even his father. He told me that I was never allowed back on Quileute land. If I were to step back on it; then he would kill me. He stormed out of the house.
"I sat on the stairs and just cried. Once I stopped, I went back upstairs. I pulled up the floorboard to find several large envelopes in it. I tossed it into my bookbag along with the envelope from Peter. I did not have worry about my checking account it was with Wells Fargo and Phil helped me set it up when I turned 16. I knew my father could not access it. I placed the cards in my wallet. I wrote a letter addressed to Emily and Sam Uley and printed two copies. I placed them in a plastic bag. I placed one just inside the woods where you all would keep watch. The other I left in the truck which I left in Seattle."
I noticed that Mia held her hand and that the vampire was constantly rubbing her shoulder. She went on to explain what was in the envelope which was her grandmother's official will which left everything to her which included Charlie's house. She went on to explain her communications with Peter and what she has been doing. I can honestly say that we were all in shock. I could tell that she was leaving some things unsaid.
I noticed that she asked Darrin to go make everyone some lunch. I watched as the coyote walked through the double doors but soon came back with slacks on and motioned for Mia to move. I watched as he picked Bella up and placed her in his lap and held her tightly. I could not hear what he was whispering. It was then that I noticed that Paul came back with his shorts.
I noticed how he also stared at his lone portrait on the cliff overlooking Third Beach. I watched him take a seat near us at the counter. The food was delicious and surprisingly filling considering it was less than we normally eat. The vampire was eating food as well which shocked us.
Bella went on to explain what she learned about Native American shifters or Guardians as they were called. Cyan and Darrin expand on areas that she could not and why their tribe received guardians. We could not believe everything we were being told. It made me wonder what all was being kept from us. I felt my phone vibrate. Bella stated that she thought that I would find it interesting. I opened the message. Suddenly, Jacob's voice filled the air. Even I could hear the cold, venomous anger in his voice. We heard everything that he told her including the part about not being allowed on our land on the threat of death.
I heard a sudden growl than the pounding on the counter. I turned to see what the damage was but was shocked to find no damage. I think Paul was even stunned. "Did you really think that I would build a diner near the pack that could not withstand his temperament?" Bella smiled. "It took 6 years to get the right combination. In about another 5 years all my current diners near Guardians will be completely remodeled with similar materials."
"Why did you do all this? If you even thought for a moment that Jacob spoke the truth." Paul stated with a shaky voice.
"La Push and the pack are my heart regardless of what was done or believed. I had always planned on returning sometime between my 35th and 40th birthday. I felt that now was the time." I watched as Bella smiled at him. "I will have to warn you. If Jacob or my father show up here; then I will have them immediately removed from the premise. All my employees have a connection to the supernatural. Darrin's mate will be arriving soon, and she will also be a waitress. I have another Guardian coming as well to work the bar and counter. He is unmated and shifts into an exceptionally large reddish-brown bear. The hallways and doors were designed for him move through when he is a bear. There is little space available to move around him. You all maybe tall. He is tall and very wide. Of course, there are cameras everywhere."
I watched as she slid an envelope towards me. "You will find that it is a restraining order that requires that my father, Jacob Black and Jessica Stanley-Black to keep 25ft away from me and are not allowed at the listed locations or within 25ft of them. There is a reason this building was built 40ft from the main thoroughfare that is the main road from Port Angeles and Fork and just outside the main entrance to La Push. I would ensure that your council receives a copy as soon as possible. You will find two copies: one for the council and one for you. Darrin smelled one of you near my woods."
"That would have been me. I was in the woods the day the moving trucks arrived. I saw you in the airport in Seattle. I wanted to know if you were actually moving back to Forks." I stated.
"That makes sense." She never left Cyan's lap. "I would really like Emily and Kim to come work for me; however, I must let you know that they could end up serving vampires or fairies or other members of the Supernatural as well as regular customers.
"I will consider it." I stated. I knew I would I allow it though I was not comfortable with it.
"The vampires know that they cannot cause trouble in the diners." Cyan stated.
"Not to mention, I or another Guardian are always in the diner during opening till it is cleaned. I seldom leave till I have seen everyone leave the parking lot." Darrin stated.
"If you are from Phoenix; then why did you decide to move here and work at this one." Jared stated.
"We would not allow her to return without protection. Especially after we heard her story when she spoke to the vampire kings. We do not know your pack, or the people here. We trust her safety to no one we do not trust. I am staying till Mark arrives from western New York; then I will return to my mate and pack." Cyan stated.
"We would not hurt her." Paul growled.
"We have no way to know that." Darrin snarled.
"How did she survive meeting the Volturi without dying or being changed?" Jared asked.
"The reasons will be revealed in time, but for now you do not need to know." Cyan stated.
I could not help but sigh. I knew my wife longs to reconnect to her friend. "I will allow Emily to work here. However, if anything happens to her; then I will kill anyone involved."
"I will also let Kim work here. We could sure use the extra income." Jared stated.
"You are leaving your sister in a strange place by herself." Paul stated.
"She is not by herself. We have been told that she will find her mate here. Yes, I am comfortable with her living with Bella, Mark, Darrin and his mate." Cyan stated. "I am still disappointed that Bella will not become my second wife."
Paul laughed. "What was her reasoning for refusing you?"
"I tell him that when he can change into a wolf; then I would marry him." Bella smiled. "Since that will never happen; he has settled on just being a brother to me."
I could only be surprised by her words. I could tell that Jared and Paul were too. "I wished that I would have imprinted on you and not Rachel Black." Paul grumbled.
Bella was stunned. "I thought she was living in Hawaii."
"She returned 8 years ago. I imprinted on her. We remained friends till she suddenly returned 3 years ago after divorcing her husband. We got married just over a year ago." Paul stated.
"She has the heart of an Alpha Mother and Chief's wife, so only an Alpha and Chief can be her mate." Cyan stated.
"Rachel has a marketing degree. She has not worked, since moving back 3 years ago. Would you have something for her?" Paul looked at Bella.
I watched as she bit her lip and frowned. "I will have to seriously consider it. I am not comfortable with having a member of the Black family working for me. I have several foundations as well as the diners. I am about to open my first international diner in Volterra in May of this year. I am still working on my research for my skin cream for vampires to keep them from sparkling in daylight. At the end of this year, I have 3 more diners opening in the Midwest near other Guardian tribes. I am also speaking with Eskimo Guardians about one possibly near them; however, their Guardians have several different special needs that I am working to research as well. I am excited to meet a Polar Bear Guardian and a Reindeer Guardian. I am wondering if I could get the reindeer to wear a light up red nose during holiday season." She giggled on the last part which had us all laughing.
Jared tilted his head to the side. "Just one last thing, you stated that the pack phasing after the Cullens arrival was just a coincidence, and that we would have changed regardless; why is that?" Jared asked.
I listened carefully because I was curious myself. "Guardians are designed to protect in a time of great turmoil and evil." Cyan stated. "I can see how the Cullens would classify, because I would love to tear their ass apart except Jasper, but he is no longer apart of them. Your tribe has been going through and experiencing great turmoil. You all would have to be phased before it happened."
"You are implying that something is going to happen to the tribe that would bring great turmoil." Sam stated.
"I am not implying anything. I am stating it as a fact. It is a certainty. I would have to guess for it to be soon, because this diner was supposed to be the 100th diner not 75th. However, Bella kept feeling that she needed to return. She started to feel that 6 months ago. Which tells me, that she is required to be here and will be much needed." Cyan stated. "For more details, I would suggest you speak with your shaman." Cyan added.
I watched Bella looked at her watch. "I need to get going. I have a video conference with Peter Whitlock in 30 minutes."
We were shown out of the diner. We drove back to my house. We sat around the table. "So, what are you thinking?"
"I think that there is a lot of bullshit going around, because Bella never did any of those things. I must wonder about Jacob's state of mind. I would have to wonder how much Billy and Quil have been poisoned by Jacob and Charlie." Paul stated. "I do know this much. You better alpha order us not reveal anything or harm Jacob. I feel like killing his ass."
"I would like to do the same; however, he is the rightful alpha. I cannot justify harming him for what he did to Bella who is not an imprint. I believe that we need to have a meeting with Billy and Quil and see if they have been poisoned by the same bullshit. Billy used to consider Bella a daughter." I stated.
Everyone left to go to their imprints. I could not help but wonder over everything that I had learned. I watched as Emily returned with the children from shopping. I could feel her overwhelming happiness about being able to work with Bella. Before dinner, I spoke with Billy about speaking with him and Quil alone. He was hesitant to exclude Jacob who was learning to take over the Chief position.
I spent the next few days preparing what I would say to them. I knew that I wanted Jared to be with me. On Wednesday after dinner, we went to the Meeting Hall. "What is wrong, Sam?" Billy asked when we entered.
"What were you told about Bella disappearing?" I asked.
"We were told that she could not be tied to the rez or Forks, and she felt the need to leave." Billy stated. He frowned. "I was upset and disappointed that she would not come say goodbye."
"Before I say anything else, I would like you to listen to something." I stated and pulled out my phone and played the recording. Once it was done, I spoke again. "Bella sent this to me on Saturday. She has returned to Forks and is living in her old house. She owns the building and land that is under construction. She is opening a diner that will service all races including ALL supernatural races."
"I will kill that son of mine. He does not have the authority yet to ban anyone from the land." Billy growled.
I handed over an envelope. "What is this?" Old Quil asked.
"It is a restraining order issued by the State Police against, Charlie Swan, Jacob Black and Jessica Stanley-Black." Jared stated.
I watched Old Quil space out for a few moments. "What else did you learn?"
Jared and I spent the next two hours going over everything that we were told from our meeting that Saturday. "It seems possible. It would explain why I was told to secure our artifacts underground." Old Quil stated. "I have not been told of anything specific or when."
"What should we do?" I just had to ask.
"I would secure anything you feel is not replaceable specifically underground. However, I would just act as normally as possible. I would like to meet with Bella." Old Quil stated while frowning.
"I will speak with her and let you know." I stated. I could tell that he was keeping something to himself. It made me wonder what it could be. We said our goodbyes and went our separate way.
The next several weeks were interesting. Especially as March 21st was getting closer. I knew that Old Quil had met with Bella by himself and again with Billy. I was more worried than anything. I thought there would be a greater issue with Emily working; however, the house was always filled with happiness more so than before.
It was a week before the Grand Opening. The pack was having issues with Leah and Jacob especially after they learned that Bella had returned. It got to the point where Quil V would not even do patrols with them. I could just feel that soon my position as alpha would finally be challenged.
Jared, Paul, and I were on our lunch break when we were told to return home and the rest of the day was canceled. It seemed that the storm coming in was going to get worse. We were okay with that because we were supposed to be meeting Bella at the diner to have her met Rachel. It was also shocked when she asked us to bring all the children, Billy, Old Quil and the rest of the pack and their imprints and their kids except for Leah and Jacob.
I rushed home to find that the kids were released from school early. I was beginning to wonder if it would be safe to attend this large dinner. I had just showered when Old Quil called to say that we would be safe to attend the dinner. I was only a little less worried. He also informed me that Bella would be picking him, Billy, Seth, Brady, Colin and Quil and Claire at the Meeting House. I was also concerned about the closeness between Quil and Jacob, but he assured me that it would be fine. I was also told that Mia and Mark would be picking up me, Jared, Embry, Paul, and our families up from my house.
It was about 5pm when two SUVs pulled up in front of my house. One was dark tinted blue 4x4 Chevy Blazer and the other was the same Blazer that we had seen previously. In the first SUV, we were able to get mine and Jared kids into Mia's vehicle along with Emily, Rachel, and Kim. The rest got in Mark's SUV. The first thing I heard was someone asking if Bella was okay. "I just got a message from her saying that she was leaving the Meeting Hall as we speak."
"How come she did not get us?" Angela asked. I had to grin. Angela besides my wife were always Bella's most extreme supporters.
"Before she left Arizona, she had her SUV customized with a wheelchair ramp and special locks and belt to lock it and the person in place without getting out of the chair. It made more sense for her to pick up Billy and all the single wolves and Claire." Mark smiled. He shocked everyone. "Was your last name Webber by any chance?" He asked with a smile.
"Yes."
"I think the diner near my rez was either the third or fourth. She spent 6 months there. She talked about a girl named Angela Webber, a lot."
I watched as Angela began to cry into Embry's shoulder. "Why did she never reach out to me?"
"I asked her once since I heard she always spent the holidays alone why she never went back for a visit and reached out to those that she missed." I could see the frown appear on her face. "She told me that she was never sure if what she was told was true. She said that they would not be the first family to welcome her under false pretense and abandon her. When she would get the urge to call, her nightmares of her last days would reappear only in the nightmares her father and Jacob were successful in not just killing her physically but completely shattering her heart and soul. She has serious insecurities about her appearance, abilities, and her place in this world. The only people I know that she is secure in belief that they would never leave her are Jasper, Peter, and Charlotte Whitlock. I know she has doubts about the rest of us Guardians and the Volturi, though I do believe Jane and Alec are almost past her defensive walls. She may seem happy, confident, secure in herself, but I will be upfront and say it is a cover she displays for everyone."
I watched as he paused and turned off the rez. "She actually had Mia, Cyan and Darrin fooled till after their third night here when they heard her during a nightmare and woke up screaming. They arrived at the end of January, and they have not stopped. Just do not let on that you know. I should also let you know that if it does not ease off soon, Darrin is going to request that Jasper come to use his powers to make her sleep through the night. It is always worse around the holidays. I have said more than enough for now."
The rest of 6-minute drive was done in silence. We pulled behind Mia who was unloading the kids to ensure that they did not get too wet. It is when I noticed a Silver Blazer with a red wolf on the side. I ensured that I was the last one. I could already hear the children and their excitement. It is what I heard Old Quil say that shocked me, "I was running low on hope for the future of this tribe, but this and you have renewed that shattered hope. I can go to the Spirits knowing that my people will have a future, and it will not all be lost."
'At least I can give hope to others though I keep none for myself.' Bella smiled but everyone went quiet when she responded in Quileute.
"I never knew you spoke Quileute." Seth turned.
"I spent my youth with Billy and Old Quil. Of course, I learned it. How could I not when Old Quil is my great-uncle?" Bella stated as if it was obvious.
"Why did you never tell me we were related?" Quil frowned.
Bella shrugged a little hurt. "It is not my fault you never remembered."
"This is beautiful, Bella. One question?" Old Quil asked walking up to a group of wolves painted on the wall.
"Sure."
"How did you know what my father's wolf looked like?" Old Quil touched the wall.
"These are all done from my memories or dreams I used to have as a little girl." Bella shrugged and walked into the kitchen.
I noticed Billy and Old Quil shared a look. "It is not possible." Billy stated.
"With the Spirits, anything is possible. You should know that by now." Old Quil smiled and kept touching his father's wolf. Everyone kept sharing looks. I knew then that Old Quil knew more than what he was saying.
Billy's POV
I was feeling so many emotions. I was amid our tribal pack history. It was all around me on the walls, counters, tables, and floors. I could still feel the anger towards Jacob. I know that he is not happy with me nor is his wife. Especially, when I told him in front of the council that he would not take his place as Chief of the tribe.
I had always felt a connection to Bella. I had over the years assumed it was because of my friendship with Charlie, which is no more, now. I laid into him when I had learned how he treated Bella. There is much tension on the council. I would not change my decision. If I could kick Sue off the council; then I would.
Bella had made considerations for me that neither my family, pack nor tribe have ever done. When Old Quil and I met at her home. I was surprised to find a completely paved area that I could wheel myself towards the house and when the steps moved to form a ramp I wanted to weep. It was the same when she pulled up to the Meeting Hall and the passenger door automatically opened and a ramp was lowered and raised and slide into place, and I could easily use the custom seat belt.
I had even noticed that Old Quil had a few tears in his eyes. I looked around this beautiful diner. I could not help but notice next to Old Quil there was an odd, shaped table. I wheeled myself closer. It was a table specifically designed for me. "Look Old Quil."
I watched him turn and look. I saw the stray tear slide down his cheek. Table reserved for Billy Black and Old Quil. "Can you still doubt me?" Old Quil smiled. "I bet she still has a few more surprises up her sleeve."
I was about to say something when Bella and Mia came out of the kitchen each carrying two trays. I could only sit and wonder if this was the same girl that was such a klutz. I watched as she served the children hot chocolate with whip cream. I watched as Mia served the adults. I watched as Bella approached me and Old Quil. "These are for you to help warm you up a little."
I watched her begin to walk away. I reached out for her. "I cannot say how happy and thankful for all the considerations you have done for me when my own family has not in all these years."
"I was remodeling the house to get it up to code. It only made sense to make the slight changes. It is nothing special only common sense." I watched her walk back into the kitchen. I could see the questions on the pack face.
"What was that about?" Embry asked.
"When I met up with Bella and Old Quil, it was at her old house that she had remodeled. When we got there was a paved pathway straight to the house that I could wheel myself. When I got closer to the stairs, the stairs moved to form a ramp that I could wheel myself directly into the house." I spoke slightly choked. "I mean this girl thought we used and abandoned her; yet, she had the consideration to make things easy for me including customizing her Blazer, not to mention inside her diner. Especially, when she did not know how she would be received by all of us." I was starting to get choked up.
"I mean after leaving under the assumption that we all did not want her on the reservation. She still went out of her way to do something to not only help vampires but you all. It speaks a great deal about who she is and reflects poorly on all of us." Old Quil stated.
I heard the kitchen door slam open. "Now that is enough Old Quil. I will not have you making the pack feel guilty over something that they should not feel guilty over, since it was not their fault. The pack and tribe have a good heart. However, just like any human we have our own failings. It is a part of being human. It is a part of any species. People are susceptible to listening and believing the loudest and most persistent voice. If you want to make anyone, feel guilty; then save it for Jacob, Jessica, Sue and Charlie." I watched as she got in Old Quil's face waving her wooden spoon. "I will not have you make this pack feel guilty or less than anyone else. Do you understand me?"
I watched Old Quil gulp. "Yes, dear."
"Good now behave, so I can help finish making dinner." Bella smiled and kissed his cheek before going back into the kitchen.
I could not help but laugh especially at Old Quil's face. "For a moment, I thought my Molly had come back from the dead." I could hear that Bella turn the music up in the kitchen.
"Why did she get mad? You only spoke the truth." Brady stated with a frown.
"Bella does not see herself as anyone special. She sees everyone else as above her. It is part of who she is, and how she was raised. She sees each one of you as being special and dear to her. She would not even allow us to criticize you all. You were her family. She takes care of her family and friends." Mark stated from the counter.
"But..." Brady started.
I watched Mark shake his head. "There is no but with Bella only what is. I am quite sure that she could give you at least ten reasons on why you should all not feel guilty or less than her. I am sure could come up with another 10 reasons why you all are better than her. I have seen her do it with other Guardians and vampires. She has and never will see herself the way others do unless it is negative."
"I wished she had told me that she had dreamed about the previous packs." Old Quil stated.
"She does not offer information unless she is asked." Mark stated.
"Do her other diners look like this?" Seth asked.
"No. They are all pretty much the same. This diner is unique. The others have an earthly feel to them. They have various pictures of wolves in nature or at different zoos. Of course, there is the ten-foot red wolf that functions as a sign at the entrance of all the parking lots. I think I have pictures of the one near my reservation." I watched as he showed everyone the pictures.
As they came to me, I gasped. "That is Ephraim's wolf."
I watched as Old Quil gave me another look. "I know what I know."
"What do you know?" I saw Sam glare.
"I know that Jacob will never be Chief or Alpha. I know that your time as Alpha is coming to an end really soon." Old Quil stated without looking back at Sam.
I watched Sam frown. "Jacob is the only one that can claim Alpha." Quil stated.
"The Spirits have already spoken and named who will become Alpha and Chief." Old Quil snapped.
"Who is it then?" Paul asked.
"You will know when it is time." I watched as Old Quil changed the subject.
The rest of the evening was joyful. Even as the storm raged on outside, it did not seem to dampen the atmosphere inside. I and Old Quil watched as Bella moved around the children and kept them entertained. "She will make a wonderful mother, someday." I could not help but smile.
"Yes, she would. It is why it is a crime that she will never get to experience that joy. You better hope no one gets a hold of Charlie because he would be dead. The last beating, he gave her broke her pelvis and shards ripped her uterus, which was not discovered till three years later, when she miscarried. They had to give her a full hysterectomy. She has many nieces, nephews and godchildren scattered across this country. She loves every one of them." Mia stated as she placed dessert in front of us and topped off our drinks as she glanced at Seth.
I was seething on the inside. This girl had been through too much. I also began to feel guilty. I kept my anger and prejudices focused on the vampires and did not pay attention to what was happening with my loved one. I wondered how I could be considered Chief. I was a poor one. I allowed my hatred and disability blind me to everything else for no reason. When this lovely girl had more reasons to hate, be sad and depressed than even I did. Yet, she pulled herself up and never gave up.
Suddenly, two howls ripped through the night. The pack jumped and ran to the back phasing as they moved through the door. I even watched Mark phase into a huge bear. I watched Mia and Bella speak with Darrin and Michia. I watched them leave. I watched as her phone rang. She smiled.
I watched as she and Mia brought out air mattresses and began to set them up for the children. I could only shake my head as they returned with numerous pillows and blankets. She proceeded to start a pillow fight. I watched as she eased her way out of it and walked towards us. "Everything will be okay, eventually. It is mudslides mixed with flooding and rushing water from Third and Second Beach. They will bring everyone back you will see. Darrin and Micha are already setting up tents and bringing over blankets and clothes."
"How did you know?" I had to ask.
"You could say I have cryptic friend that knows shit. He told me that some type of disaster would happen to the area just no specifics or when. So, I prepared for every type of disaster from a raging forest fire, earthquake, blizzard, avalanche, volcanic eruption, tsunamis, flooding and mudslides." She stopped when her phone rang. She held up her hand for us not to move or speak. "That is great Darrin. Now take the mobiles and trailers and go and get as many people as you can. Make sure that my dad, Jacob, and his wife are the furthest from my buildings. Their kids can stay with their Aunt Rachel here or at my house. Make sure the mothers with little children and elderly go to my house or one of the other six houses on the street. Everyone else can use the tents. I just got word that my trailers will be delivered tomorrow. Yes, they are bringing them including the doctor. Yes, the asshole is coming as well. Yes, you can do whatever you want to them. Now go."
I watched her frown. "Now where was I." She stated.
"You were talking about how you planned for anything." I stated.
"Oh yeah, I got the call from my know-it-all friend to make sure everyone I cared about was here tonight. This building was made to stand up to virtually anything. I mean Paul pounded on my counter full force and no dents or cracks. I made large orders that were being stored at one of my distribution centers. They will be delivered tomorrow. The Whitlocks and Cullens are bringing them. At the end of next week, three other Guardian tribes that I am close with will be coming to help." She stopped and looked at a message on the phone. "It also seems that members of the Volturi will be arriving in two days for an unknown amount of time. They are bringing things to help. Jane and Alec were insisting on coming when they were told the Cullens would be here as well. I told you everything would be okay, eventually. Now, I want you two to follow me. You need to rest and worry about everything tomorrow. We will save as many as we can. You two will need to be rested. Your people will be looking and depending on the two of you even more. You need to be strong, confident and assured for them."
I followed her through to the hallway and stopped midway as the wall slid open to an elevator. We walked into the elevator. There was a whole other floor. When the door opened, she motioned down a hallway. I hope you gentlemen are not too old to share. I had this room made for you. There is a surprise in there for you Billy. You will also find some clothes and PJ in the dressers. It also has its own bathroom. Sleep. You will need it for tomorrow."
I watched her go back to the elevator. I turned to look at my old friend. "Did you know?"
"I only knew something was going to happen not what or when. Just like I was told the new chief was chosen not when or who. I was told to secure our artifacts underground as best as possible. However, if the reservation was hit with both massive flooding and mudslides; then we are looking at the destruction of the whole reservation." I watched him sink down on to the bed. "I should have known and urged the council to plan when they said to secure the artifacts."
I wheeled myself over to my friend. "You secured our artifacts that are not replaceable. The pack and Bella's people are working to save our people. As long as, our tribe is safe; then everything else can be rebuilt. We have had to rebuild before. We will do so again."
"Yes, but we do not have the funds to do a complete rebuild of the reservation."
"Aren't you the one to tell me all the time that Spirits know what they are doing? They brought an incredibly special girl back that planned for the immediate disaster. We will survive. Our tribe will survive. Now, let us get some sleep. I do not want another Molly episode. It is quite scary." I spoke with chuckle.
Old Quil laughed. "You are quite right." I looked as he moved around the quite spacious room. I watched his eyes narrow. "What is that?" I watched him go and open the closet further. I could not help but gasp.
"It can't be." I watched as he wheeled it out of the closest. It was a motorized all terrain wheelchair. I could not stop the tears from falling. "How could Charlie not see his greatest treasure?"
"She is ours now." Old Quil stated. He helped me into the new chair. "I am going to change." Old Quil went and grabbed some clothes and opened the bathroom. "Oh shit!" He backed out for me to look. The bathroom and shower were large enough for me to use my chair in it and a custom bathroom that would allow me to shower by myself. "She really thought of everything. I could only imagine what your house will look like if it has to be rebuilt." Old Quil smiled.
"I guess the Spirits saw the larger picture when they brought Molly Swan into your life. Both her and your grandniece have hearts of pure gold. Bella more so with all that she has been through." I spoke through my tears.
I moved out of the bathroom and looked around the room. I noticed a TV. I moved towards it and saw the note. I know you love your sports. Enjoy the sports package. I went to the other dresser and grabbed my clothes to wait my turn. I turned on the TV. I could not help but let the tears fall. I heard several generators being started. I noticed that the rain was coming down and could hear muffled movements below leaving me to believe that these rooms were soundproof.
Old Quil came out with a smile and laid on the other bed. I handed him the remote. I went to change. It took me several minutes but was able to get it done thanks to the customization in the bathroom. I went out and noticed a remote by the pillow. I picked it up and pressed a button and the bed lowered closer to the ground. I could not help but smile. It was not too long before Quil and I were both asleep.
The morning came with a cloudy morning. Old Quil and I got dressed. We went downstairs. It was filled with laughter and smell of delicious food and coffee. I looked around. There were many people in the diner. I went to my table. Mia brought us some coffee and food. "You will want to speak to your son and his wife before he ends up dead."
I could only nod my head. I noticed Sam and the pack. I motioned him over. I could see they were tired and haggard. "How bad?"
"What the mudslide didn't destroy the waters from Third and Second beach did. The store, Meeting Hall, the schools, the medical center all destroyed. I think one or two homes are standing but not livable with trees and debris in them. It is horrible. However, we only lost three people: Old Crow, Old Jim and Blackbear." Sam stated.
"Bella has been tending to those that were hurt. She is no doctor but damn good at emergency first aid. The girl has been on the move none stop. Do you know there is trail that leads to her house? She has been going back and forth all night. The younger kids and the Elderly are at her other houses. Emily and Angela are over there cooking. Darrin, Micha, and Bella have been cooking all night. Did you know they have over 20 generators and placed small heaters in each of the tents? They have rooms upstairs. The pack and I have been taking two-hour shifts in sleeping up there."
"Yes, we were aware. Bella had a room specially customized for me including this chair."
Suddenly Bella appeared, she was smiling but you could see that she beyond tired. "Hey, do you mind sending three boys to the house. Carlisle, Rosalie, Alice, and Esme are five minutes out with two trailers. Once, Carlisle is done seeing to the children and elderly. He will come and check over those here. Peter, Jasper, Emmitt, and Edward will be here in 5 minutes as well with two more trailers. If you could help them, get them unloaded. I would appreciate it."
I watched Sam look her over carefully. "Have you slept yet?"
"I will once things are settled down and unloaded. I need to talk to Peter. Charlie and Jacob are trying to start shit again. I am good. I had some toast and more coffee a little bit ago. I hear them pulling up. I need to go."
I watched Sam motioned for Brady, Seth, and Colin to go the house. I followed them outside. I heard the generators. I watched as two tracker trailers pulling two large trailers each covered the front of the diner. "Jasper! Peter!" I heard Bella shout. I could see the instant change. Her smile was blinding and made her eyes sparkle. I was pissed that I had not ever seen her smile like that.
I watched as each vampire hugged and swung her around. "Is that my Belly-Boo?"
I watched as Bella turned around. "Emmy Bear!" She ran into another vampire as he caught her midstride and swung her around.
I literally watched as she stiffened and watched all the happiness be sucked right out of her. With a few choice words, "Bella, love."
"I have no idea why you are here. You will not speak, touch or be near me in anyway. I will warn you that you are not protected here, and there are many here that would love nothing more than to rip you apart and burn the pieces. I will be the one lighting the fucking match."
I also noticed as well as the pack that Peter and Jasper moved subtly to put Bella between them. "Remember what I told you. You wanted help, so help. You were warned beforehand to keep away from her. Do not look to Carlisle for help. Your whole coven was warned that many were not happy with them." I jumped slightly from a loud roar. Suddenly, an exceptionally large bear appeared behind Bella.
I watched as Bella wrapped her arm around Jasper's. "Can you get them unloaded? I need to speak with Jasper." I watched them disappear into the house.
"You must be Chief Black. I am Peter Whitlock." A vampire with dark blonde hair came up to me.
"I am. I appreciate your help and generosity." I shook his hand.
"I wish I could take all the credit, but this is all Bella. She did the ordering and organization. She is the one that made the calls and got the help coming. Jasper and I only made the final arrangements as her right-hand men and executive manager for her corporations and nonprofit foundations. Did you know she created an anti-venom for Guardians against vampire bites? It works! Of course, the catch is that it must be administered within 30 minutes of being bitten. She is close to developing a cream to keep us from sparkling. I almost wished she were meant to be a vampire."
"Yes, she is truly a treasure."
"Your people better treasure her. I will have no issues annihilating the lot of you. It is already bad enough that you might lose your son especially once her mate arrives which could be anytime now. I know you do not like the Cullens; however, I will admit that Emmitt, Rose, Carlisle, and Esme are not bad. I cannot wait for Edward to get what he deserves. He will make a stupid move while the Volturi are here thinking they will back him, since Bella is a human. There is a reason that they are the ruling class."
I could not help but smirk. "I think that is something that I would love to see."
"I will let you know that as of now. Bella will always have someone near her be it Guardian or Vampire. She is Edward's singer. He can get very possessive and controlling of what he considers his."
I was really concerned now. I began looking around. "Where is she?"
"Upstairs hopefully going to sleep if Jasper as his way. He is an empath. He sensed that she was way beyond her point. I need to ensure everything goes to where she wants it. If not, she will have my head and not make me my Bloody Marys. She can be quite vicious especially with lead bats. Do not worry for your people. They are in incredibly good hands."
I could not help but watch. They were unloading ATVs, cases and cases of water, blankets, and clothes of varying sizes. They brought out various tools and more generators. It was a very overwhelming site. I could only imagine what was being unloaded at her house. "Hello, I am Emmitt." The large dark-haired vampire held out his hand.
"Billy Black" I reached out my hand and shook it.
"I was told to ensure you knew how to work your new toy. I can assure you it is fun." I could not help but look at him with confusion. "Follow me." I rolled behind him. He stopped at a customized ATV. "Bella thought that it would make it easier for you to move around and see the damage for yourself and afterwards to keep and go around reservation once it was rebuilt."
He patiently walked me through how it worked. He attached a control for the ramp to my chair. He showed me how to roll up the windows and retract the roof. He shouted directions as I attempted to drive it. It felt very freeing. "Okay, that is enough for now. I would make sure the windows and roof are up. Round two of the storms will be arriving soon. I need to ensure you are safe inside the diner along with Old Quil."
I turned and saw Old Quil getting lessons on the ATVs as well. I notice that there were only 6 of them. I can imagine the arguments of who will get to use them. I was wondering if there was a way to prevent it as I rolled myself back into the diner. "I was told to make sure you drank all of this. I would not worry. Bella has left strict instructions for the ATVs along with a rotation chart." Peter said as he handed me a cup of hot coffee.
I looked around the diner. I saw no fear. Just hope, love and appreciation. I even heard a child asked if he could ride the large bear. Mark laughed. "Maybe once all the storms are done passing through. For now, you can play with one of the wolves."
I watched as Seth and Colin who were the smallest phase and began to chase them around the diner. I was enjoying watching them that I never saw Jasper appear. "I apologize for not introducing myself earlier. I am Jasper Whitlock."
"It is okay. Where is Bella?"
"Asleep, finally. Darrin is outside her door. If she starts to wake up or have a nightmare; then he will let me know. I am hoping to keep her asleep for the next 12 hours at least. I wished they would have told me her nightmares came back and was only sleeping 3 hours each day. This is the first time she has seen me since she was 18. However, I have been around her quite frequently especially around the holidays to help her sleep. It was bad after the miscarriage with the return of the nightmares. She always knew I had been there. She would leave little notes or treats."
"Good, she needs the sleep. If you need any help; then let me or the pack know. She was constantly on the move last night and drenched through and through. I think she changed her clothes 6 times." Sam stated as he sat next to Jasper. "Will you be able to keep her asleep?"
"I could make sure she stays asleep for 24 hours if need be. However, the worst part of the storm is yet to come. I am hoping to keep her asleep through it all. Carlisle should be over here shortly. He is interested in trying the food for the first time. He has been told that there is human blood in it. I explained about Bella's Blood Banks. It was the first time I ever saw the man speechless. I am also hoping the food will help curb Edward's bloodlust."
"How hard is it to control your own bloodlust with all these vampires?" Sam asked.
"With Bella's food, it is not hard to control at all. Especially, her Bloody Mary, which is predominately human blood." Jasper smiled.
"How does the food affect your eye color?"
"As you can see, they are more of an orange color that is because I live off her food now." Jasper smiled.
"Ah. That would explain why she said that she wanted to create contacts that would last up to 12 hours." Sam stated.
I could already see the planning going through Jasper mind. It was interesting to watch. I can fully understand why my great-grandfather would make a treaty with Vampires. It saddens my heart that I never gave them a chance while they were here.
"Where are you staying?" I had to ask.
"Oh, Bella bought all the houses on her street. Peter, Charlotte, Garrett, Vinny, and I share a house. It is the one on the right of hers. The two on the left side are for the Volturi. The other house the Cullens will be using. The others are for the other Guardians and for now the elderly and children and mothers with infants or toddlers."
"Did much of Forks take any damage?" I had to know.
"The ones closest to the reservations got destroyed. According to Peter, the second wave will destroy Newtons and Thriftway as well as two neighborhoods. Forks diner, City Hall, Police station and schools will also take damage but survive. It is definitely one for the record books." Jasper stated looking thoughtfully.
I watched as he pulled out his phone. "You need to make sure they are all secured. Have someone check on Edward and take him hunting." I watched him close the phone.
"What was that about."
"It is another project of Bella's. Peter is over there to ensure that it will remain intact."
"How much does she have going on besides the diners?" I had to ask. She seems to be doing way too much.
"Well, it is hard to say. The diners pretty much run themselves at this point. Peter and I are incredibly careful on who we select to manage them. She has a few research projects. She has four nonprofit foundations that she oversees. However, she has been focusing on two main projects: the skin cream and something close to her heart that she has been working on and planning for the last 6 years."
"Where did she get all the money?" Sam asked.
"A good portion was her own. It seemed that both of her grandparents left her everything. Peter and I got her a good attorney who went after her parents for keeping it from her plus interest. Charlie does not even see half his paycheck anymore. Her stepfather was furious with Renee who blew through it without spending any on Bella. Phil being a major league baseball player paid Renee's portions plus set up a trust fund for Bella where 30% of each paycheck goes; then he divorced Renee. Renee died I think 4 years ago just after Bella moved to Arizona. Phil died 2 years later and left everything to Bella. Of course, Peter and I started her off with her new place and paid for her schooling and her first Blazer and Harley which she still has. She seldom spends anything on herself. Most of her spending goes towards all her godchildren and nieces and nephews." Jasper stated.
I could tell by the look on Sam's face that Bella barely told us anything. Suddenly, Jasper was gone. Sam moved quickly. I heard a slam against the wall. "Where the hell do you think you are going?" I noticed that Jasper had Edward pinned to the wall.
"I heard there were rooms upstairs that I could change my clothes." Edward stated.
"I don't think so. You want to change go to the house where you were assigned. Upstairs is for pack and employee use only. You are neither. Now go." Jasper snarled. I watched Jasper turn to Sam. "See to it that he is removed from the building. I am needed upstairs. I do not care if he is missing a limb or two."
Sam was phased and growling. Jasper tossed Edward towards the door as he disappeared into the elevator. I looked at the walls and noticed there was no damage. She really did have the pack in mind when she built this diner. I watched Sam grab Edward by his clothes and drug him outside.
I decided to follow him outside and move about my people. It had been a long time since I was able to do this. I could see Carlisle going back over the injured and sick. I noticed that Rosalie was helping him. I took the time to speak to a few of the people. I could hear the hope and aspirations for the young. I knew that Paul and Jacob wanted to study mechanics for different reasons. I knew that Quil and Embry want to learn Electrical Engineering. I knew Sam and Jared wanted to learn architecture. I had no idea what Seth, Brady and Colin wanted to learn.
I could see the damage of the broken dreams. I noticed under it all was still love and hope. I just knew that there would have to be changes. It could not go like this. "How is it going Chief?" I heard Mark come up next to me.
"Realizing the damage of broken dreams that I caused."
"You cannot shoulder the blame, Chief. Yes, errors were made."
"We forced them to remain on the reservation. They were protectors, and it is where they should be. However, I realize now that there is more than one way to protect. If we had allowed them to go to school; then they could have protected the reservation through their education."
"Yes, however, they need to shoulder part of the blame. There are so many online schools. They could have taken them and still received their degrees."
"How do you handle your guardians?" I looked at him.
"Those with the genes are taught from an early age. They are taught what to expect, signs and what would happen. They are taught the reason and purpose. From an early age, they are taught to control their emotions, especially their anger."
"We kept it a secret. The last pack member died in 1936. No one phased till Sam Uley. He caught everyone off guard. Brady and Colin phased for the first time at the age of 13 after their grandmother's death. Seth was 15. Leah was a complete shock. Embry, Jacob and Quil phased within a few months of each other at the age of 16. Sam was 19. Jared and Paul were 18 when they phased. In our history at most there were only ever four wolves. For us to have 10 took us for a loop. We handled it all wrong."
"Things happen for a reason. On my reservation, we have three generations of Guardians. The only time something is a failure is if you keep repeating the same mistake. Out of ashes comes new life and beauty. I can feel the rain in the air. You should think about heading inside soon." Mark patted my shoulder and went to help some boys.
I went and spoke to a few more. I was just inside the door when I felt the chill. "I wish we could have met under better circumstances. I am Carlisle Cullen."
"Chief Billy Black." I shook his cold hand. "I would like to thank you for attending my people."
"I owed it to Bella and Ephraim to do what I can. Your grandfather was a good man. I had many conversations with him. I was just sorry that I could not save him. Do you have a moment? I would like to make sure you are okay." Carlisle spoke from behind as I rolled through the swinging doors.
"I am fine. I was here out of danger thanks to Bella." I stated.
"I understand. However, Bella specially requested that I give both you and Old Quil an examination. I do not really want to disappoint her. I have done enough of that already." Carlisle stated.
"Did she really request it?" I had to know.
I watched Carlisle pull out his phone and played a voice message. "Peter said that you were coming to help. I would really appreciate it if you would also examine Billy Black and Old Quil. I know they are getting old, but I just want to make sure they are okay. Next to you, they are the only father and grandfather I have left."
I could not deny it was Bella. I could hear the love and concern in her voice. I knew I would have to agree to the examination. "I have a room upstairs." I turned and went to the elevator.
I was surprised at how thorough and quick he was. He advised that he must wait for the results but stated that there is a good chance that all my drinking has caused some damage to my liver and possible a heart issue. He advised that I should lay off the alcohol. I was not surprised by the results.
I heard him as he opened the door. "Is she still asleep?"
"Yes, I am keeping her asleep."
"I would like to examine her as well when she wakes."
"That will be up to her Carlisle. I do not have a say in that. I do know that she is slightly dehydrated and exhausted. You can ask when she wakes. I plan to keep her asleep till she has at least 12 hours. I will advise that you keep a closer eye on Edward. I caught him trying to come up here. I will not say it again. He can assist but I will not be held accountable for what will happen to him if he does not." I heard Jasper say before the opening of elevator.
The rest of the day was spent in the diner watching the wolves entertain some of the children that were here and listening to my people talking. It was good to see. It did not seem to faze the people that a storm was raging outside yet again. I was assured that the tents would survive the storm.
It was just after nightfall. When I could not help but smile, "Whose bright idea or authority was it to make me sleep the day away when there was a shit ton of stuff to do!" Bella yelled as she came off the elevator.
I chuckled when the pack and Peter backed away and smiled. "You are on your own Jasper." They stated in unison.
I watched her reach behind the counter. I watched her come out with a lead pole. I watched Jasper backup towards the pack. "You have had little sleep these past months plus was up all night. You were completely exhausted. So, yes I kept you asleep throughout the day."
I watched as she swung and pointed the pole at him. "I have been taking care of myself for the last 10 years. I know that you have helped me sleep periodically during the last decade though I never saw you. I do not need someone to care of me."
"You cannot tell me that you do not feel better and well rested." Jasper had both of his hands up in front of him.
She moved a little closer still pointing the pole. I could see that her face was flushed from anger and annoyance. "That is not the point. I had a lot of things to do. I still had to secure both of my projects from the second half. I got five houses to straighten up for the rest. Two had to be done before tonight. I just got words that they would be here just after 11. I must prep at least 10 gallons of mix before they get here. Now it is 9pm, I must check on my projects, prep two houses and at least 2 gallons of mix and have all their favorites ready and hope they do not arrive early. It does not matter about sleep when you have tripled my load in a short time span. So, thanks!" I watched her throw the pole at the window and stormed out the back door.
We all watched as Bella roared out of the parking lot with squealing tires. Jasper looked at Peter. "Why didn't you tell me they were coming early?"
"I didn't get any warning." Peter shrugged. "I will go after her I know where she is going. Darrin, do you know what their favorites are."
He shook his head. "I can prep the mix for her. She has been cooking their food herself. She wouldn't allow anyone to make it."
"Jasper send Michia, Rosalie and Esme to straighten the houses. I gotta catch up to her." I watched Peter quickly leave.
I could not help but chuckle. "You know what they say about good intentions. Who is coming in tonight?"
"You will see." Jasper took after Peter.
Ephraim's POV
I could not believe what we were able to see. I could feel my wolf awaken. The woman saw what I saw and more. I knew that my wife did not like the idea of me making the treaty. Just as she knew that though I loved her that my wolf did not like her. It was her that filled my son and grandson of this hate towards vampire. It was passed through the tribe.
I had wished that she were alive during my time. I sure would have made her mine. She would have been an excellent wife and pack mother. I could not help but smile that her chosen mascot was my wolf. I often wondered how she knew till she had spoken about her dreams. I knew that the shamans knew this happened and chose her.
I watched as the scene unfolded. Edward had been enraged at the destruction of his old house. He was drug away by different Guardians. I watched as Bella returned to the diner. I heard the voice of our shamans. "It is time."
I turned and looked at the other Spirit Warriors. They stood not far from me. "You and your pack are being returned to the mortal world. They will need your knowledge and wisdom. You and your pack are the only ones with Bella that can save the future of this tribe."
"For how long, will we be there?" I had to ask.
"Till you stop phasing and die once again." Taha Aki spoke.
"You will be the one to train the next chief once you die, again." A shaman spoke.
I felt myself begin to fade from the Spirit World. I looked around to notice that I was in a forest. I felt Levi and Quil II come up beside me. "Let us go claim your mate."
We had approached the driveway to the diner but stayed within the trees. "How could you allow this human to buy our home and destroy it?"
"It needed to be sold. I did not know that she was the one to buy it." Carlisle spoke.
"We do not need any more bloodsuckers in the area." Jacob came from the back. "We do not need a selfish whore, either." He spat.
"You always thought you were special and too good for everyone else. It was always about those damn vampires. We were never good enough for you. You had to destroy your father after all he did for you." Jessica spat.
"You do not know, shit." I watched Bella turn and face the wretched girl. "You need to look in the mirror. You slept with over half of Forks before you graduated high school. My father did not do shit for me except to treat me as a slave and beat me. He and my mother took what was rightfully mine. He did it to himself. Just like he knew why Leah phased. He and Sue took blood and stem cells from Harry and injected them into Seth and Leah. Leah and Seth are my half sister and brother. Sue had an affair with Charlie while still married to Harry. It was something I learned just before I left. I overheard them talking."
"You are lying, bitch." Jacob charged for Bella.
I could not watch anymore. I roared and phased. I along with my brothers landed between Jacob and Bella. I took my paw and swapped him out of midair. I heard a chuckle from behind. "Your mate has arrived."
I turned and looked at the stunned woman. "I have had many dreams about you." I watched her walk up to me. I lowered my head. I felt her hands in my fur. I felt the wolf's joy.
"This is all just so happy. It does not change that she destroyed my home. She threw her purity away and defiled herself." Edward hissed. "She is mine. She has been since we met."
"I think differently." A young voice spoke as she got out of vehicle.
"Ah, ma cara." The blonde man spoke.
"Good. You can tell them to stop keeping me from my mate." Edward turned to the Volturi.
"I see relationships. I see that she is the mate of the wolf towering behind her." Marcus stated. "I would have to ask that you keep your distance."
"How can you take the side of this pathetic human? The only thing she is good for is her sweet-smelling blood."
I could not help but growl. Before I could do anything, the stupid vampire was on the floor in pain. "What would you like us to do with him?" Caius stated.
"He is your problem." I watched Bella shrug.
"Why did you bring him Carlisle?" Marcus asked.
"I was assured that he would be okay. He still loved and missed Bella." Carlisle frowned.
"Just let the vampire have the selfish bitch." Jacob spat.
"I would suggest you watch it pup." Paul stated.
"I do not have to listen you. I am the rightful, alpha." Jacob spat.
I could not take it anymore. I phased. "You are never going to be alpha or chief. I am here in this time of trouble to reclaim my titles and claim my mate." Ephraim towered over Jacob.
"You had your time you leach lover." Jacob spat.
I could only smile. "Would you like to challenge me for the titles, because that is the only way you will get them?"
I watched my great-grandson phase. I phased as I jumped over him. It only took me a couple of moves before I had the wolf pinned beneath my paws. I could hear him refusing to submit. I did the only thing I could do. I killed him.
I phased again. I turned to his wife. "Since, those children are in the chief line, you will give custody to their aunt. You are now banished from Quileute lands. Does anyone else want to challenge me?"
I noticed the rest of the current pack shook their heads. I turned and faced Bella. I walked up to her. "You are more beautiful in person than in the Spirit Worlds. I have been watching you for the last 10 years. You stole my heart with your purity, love and goodness."
"I have dreamed of your wolf, since I was six years old. I do not know you. I think I would like to get to know you." She smiled at me.
Her words brought joy to me and my wolf. "I would like that; however, I can tell you are tired still."
"I still have much to do." Bella sighed.
"We can wait till tomorrow. You need more sleep. You are almost as pale as Caius." Jane assured her.
Bella turned to me. "I guess I can use a few more hours of sleep." I could only grin as Jasper grumbled under his breath.
I turned to Billy and Old Quil. "We will talk tomorrow." I turned to everyone. "I want everyone to sleep tonight. The Vampires will watch over the tribe. Quil and Levi will sleep in wolf form just outside of Bella's room."
I took her by the hand and led her back into the diner. I followed her to her room. I waited as she changed her clothes in the bathroom. I turned her bed down for her. I watched as she climbed into bed. I placed my finger over her lips. I covered her with the blanket. I began to hum an old Quileute lullaby. Once she drifted off to sleep, I phased and curled up next to her bed. It was not long before I felt her hand touch my fur.
It was just before sunrise when I heard my Bella begin to wake. I moved. I watched her stand and stretch. She looked right at me. "That is the best sleep I have had in a while that was not caused by Jasper." I watched as she gathered clothes.
I followed her into the kitchen of the diner. We talked as she began prepping food. I told her about my life, and why I made the treaty. I told her how I loved my wife though she did fill my descendent with hate towards the wolves and vampires. She told me things about herself. I knew she was planning something. She just said that it would be a surprise.
She shooed me out of the kitchen when others came to help her. I walked over and sat across from my grandson. "I wish I could say sorry about your son; however, it was necessary."
"I understand. How is this possible?" He asked.
"When Quil III married Molly Swan, the Spirits where given glimpses of the future. My time was cut short by hate. They decided that I would be allowed to finish what I started. It was Molly's and Quil's stories while she was sleeping on the reservation that triggered her first dream of my pack. However, her life became harsher, and she forgot the stories and the dreams stopped. However, her importance was not truly realized by the Spirit Warriors till after she left Washington."
I leaned back and watched my grandson. "What are we to do now? We do not have the money or means to rebuild."
"I believe that Bella has a plan for that." I smiled. "We have been able to watch her clearly; however, certain times over the past 6 years were cloudy for us expect the shamans, who have remained silent."
I watched as Bella brought food to our table. I watched as she kissed my grandson's cheek. "I do have a plan. It is not fully complete but has been in the making since I started the diners. It will wait till this afternoon. I am speaking with the teachers to see about getting the children back into their lessons this morning."
I watched her move around the diner and spoke to quite a few people. I was amazed before but now I find her breathtaking. I walked alongside my grandson as we spoke to several people. I was amazed by their upbeat attitudes. I could only contribute it to one reason: my Bella.
The storms had finally passed. Peace filled the afternoon. Bella asked the pack and Elders to follow her. She drove back out to the old Cullen place. Everyone stood shock at the transformation. Bella motioned everyone to follow her into the house. Everyone could see the mark of the Quileute craftsmen in the house. She placed several container and folders and placed them on the table.
"I have always wanted to do something to help the nation. I never liked how many suffered. I started to work on an idea. I must admit that Peter helped me a lot." I watched as she slid a folder to me. "In the folder you will find a large, subsided grant. You can see the breakdown towards, education, businesses and rebuilding the reservation."
We watched as she opened the tubes and rolled the papers out for everyone to see. "I would like to welcome everyone to the Red Wolf Bed and Breakfast: A taste of a life forgotten. Once the last papers are signed by the Chief, this building and lands will belong to the Quileute Nation. As you can see, by the plans, there is room for various craftsmanship to be taught for a price, a store to sell the wares, hunting by the means of your people. The money would all go back to the Quileute Nation to help with the rebuilding and securing the future of your people."
I watched at the shock and tearful faces of those around the table. I looked at her. She was shining brightly. "You can see through the planning that the food to be served is all Quileute based. This area has been cleared for farming." She pointed to the map underneath. "You see here that all this land all the way to the Canadian border has been declared part of the Quileute Refuge. No hunting will be allowed unless the Council allows it and under the strict watchful eye of Quileute trackers. The hunters would have to pay for the classes to hunt as your people hunted in the old days; then they would have to pay the trackers to guide them. No firearms would be allowed on the property except by lawmen."
Bella took a moment to look around the room. "The place is not ready. It would take a whole year to finish preparing everything. However, if everyone pitches in to get it finished. I predict that it could be done by June. It would help to start generating money for your people. It would also give them something to focus on and hope for the future."
Bella looked to Billy and Old Quil. "I hope I did not overstep. I would really like to gift it to the Quileute Nation."
I placed my hand over hers. "We would be honored to accept this gift. It is a gift of love. It only shows that you truly belong to the Quileute Nation. For only, a Quileute would go to such detail to preserve their lifestyle and heritage. You do great honor for our people."
I watched as Bella bit her lip. "My businesses demand a lot of from me including traveling. I will always come home because it is where my heart is."
"I know and understand. We will all find a way to make it work." I stated and turned to Sam and the others that were already studying the plans and layout.
I noticed that it was Sam that eyed the unopen cannister. "What is in there?" Sam asked pointing to the cannister.
I watched as my mate blushed. "It is nothing but a series of rough outlines and plans that I envisioned." She stated biting her lower lip.
I watched as Paul snatched the container and rolled out one of the designs. I heard him gasp. "It is the reservation."
I watched as Sam snatched them and rolled them out onto the table. "They are just something I envisioned a combination of the past and present. Technology working with old ways to enhance and preserve."
It was Levi that snatched up one of the smaller drawings. "That's my home before it burned and was rebuilt." He looked over at her. "How did you know?"
"I had many dreams over the years. These are part of the culmination of those dreams. It is your homes and your reservation. You do not need to use them." Bella shrugged doubting herself.
It was Quil II that spoke this time. "How could we not use them? They are so intricately connected to our people and reflect centuries of our heritage that were believed to be lost and left behind. You so clearly display them using modern technology. Do not doubt yourself. Do not doubt that you are a part of our people. For it was, you that brought us from the Spirit World. It was you that implemented the plan to save our people and secure our future."
"I did not do it alone. I had help from your enemies." Bella stated.
"You see past surface. You see into their hearts and soul. You have caused a shift in the supernatural. You have guardians, rulers and enemies working together in your diners, businesses, and foundations. The only enemies we have are those that would like to see the destruction of innocence and our people. Ephraim understood and saw this as he made the treaty. You have the heart of a Chief's wife. You are the heart of our people. Before I leave this world again, I will ensure that it is not forgotten and endured. We will ensure that the future generations understand and follow it." Quil II spoke before kissing both of her cheeks.
Bella wrapped her arms around him and allowed the tears fall. She was soon passed into her mate's arm. Sam quickly started delegating positions and jobs as he rolled up the plans and placed them under his arms. The Volturi arrived offering their help to get the place up and running. The offered to help with reconstructing of the homes up to and including offering additional funding till they could start generating their own income.
It took two years to completely rebuild the reservation. The final celebration saw the official marriage of Ephraim and Bella. It saw the construction of a new treaty. Ephraim and Bella raised Jacob's kids as their own. The nation began to flourish. All the pack children had their turn traveling with Bella and learning of different guardians and other supernatural beings.
The years ran into each other. Children phased. Their children phased. Their children's children phased. It was a warm summer evening after 150 years that Bella sat on her mate's lap and surrounded by his pack mates. "I think it is time now. We have secured the future of the tribe. I think it is time to stop phasing."
Ephraim kissed his wife. "If that is what you want."
"I am ready to grow old. Sam and Jared stopped phasing two years ago. I do not want to outlive my best friends and sisters by too many years. I have lost more than enough people in my life. I am finally ready to move on to my next journey. I am ready to see Paul, Billy, Old Quil and Molly again." Bella said after she kissed him.
75 years later, four people took their last breathes together. The people of Quileute Nation celebrated and mourned for weeks at the death of Bella, Ephraim, Levi and Quil II. Their bodies were honored and burned as the days of old. Their love was shared with every generation as well as, their code and ideals for life.
Bella to her surprise was greeted in the Spirit World and welcomed by Taha Aki, Billy, Quil III, Molly and all the previous Spirit Warriors. She was hugged and kissed by every warrior. She stood before Billy. "I have missed you so much, dad." Bella threw herself at him.
He swung her around. "I have missed you, too. I am so proud of you. I could not have asked for a better a daughter."
She was passed to Old Quil, Molly and Harry. She looked over their shoulders and took off running and launched herself into Paul's arms. "I have deeply missed you so much. These last 80 years without you were only endurable thanks to my mate, Levi and Quil."
Paul laughed. "I have missed you, too, little sister."
They spent the rest of their time watching over the Quileute Nation from the Spirit World. She would occasionally send messages to Peter. Life went on as it was always meant to.
