Clark hadn't come in to work in month now.
That made her job harder. And the fact that she was sent to cover Superman's death hasn't made it any easier. These were the stories that hit home. It was still painful to think of her cousin and the accident last year.
She heard her name shouted over the bustle of the news room and turned- what could Perry possibly want now? Sometimes it sucks to be a reporter, she moodily decided. "There is a situation developing at Luthor Corp."
"Yes, Chief." She saluted; grabbed her note book, coat, purse and left.
"Don't call me Chief!" was the last noise she heard walking out the Daily Planet's door.
She was still upset over Superman's demise, and was shocked at the lame cover up Lex had pulled. She knew it had been him. And she was close to publishing it in an expose. She just needed a little more proof. When Lois Lane got out of her car and looked up at the Luthor Corp building, proof was exactly what she got.
The infamous Kansas senator was standing behind the letters of the building's marquee. He was sitting on the L with his legs dangling over the edge. The bald man's head was tilted to the sky, he was screaming, "You were right. I am wrong! Wrong, wrong, wrong! Come back! They need you!"
Lex lowered his head and began to sob. "More than they ever needed me."
An empty scotch bottle hit the pavement. The bald man was tiptoeing across the letters. Lex stood up, balancing on the U, announcing, "I WILL BE THE NEW SUPER HERO OF METROPOLIS!"
Sirens in the background announced the fire department and their ladder. Lois knew she had to catch Lex while he was drunk, 'Did you kill Superman Lex?"
"Yes!" he screamed jumping into the air, "but have no fear Hair Man is here!"
To the shock and amazement, Lex flew up 100 stories to the roof. He circled the building three times before he plunged. The firemen had their trampoline set up in seconds, but Lex landed a little to the left.
He stood up, and shook it off, and in a calm eerie voice said, "I have killed Superman. He told me I was wrong. I told him the same. Who was right?"
Sighing, with a lopsided smile, he fell to his knees, and then fell completely to the concrete unconscious. In his hand was a pair of broken glasses.
When an EMT arrived three minutes later, Lois was still in shock. Bending over Lex, the young blonde man shook his head, signaling to the other EMTs. Nervously Lois spoke, "Is he dead?"
"well…"
