The whole day had been a wreck. Utena reviewed the morning glumly. She had skipped class and gotten caught. She wasn't even sure why she did that. What had she been thinking? Utena looked down at her tea, frowning. Was it simply the loathing she held for that odious math teacher? No, it had been more of a feeling. As though she had something better to do.
Utena stood restlessly. That feeling was returning. Anthy looked up.
"Miss Utena? Don't you like the tea? Maybe I should have made rosemary…"
"No Anthy, it's okay. I'm just going to take a walk, alright?"
She didn't wait for an answer. She took her infamous school jacket and left the dorm. It was a clear evening and there was a hint of a breeze that carried the scent of spring. She didn't really know where she was going. She was used to that. Letting her feet guide her, she slipped into her jacket.
She found herself at the dueling arena again. Somehow she always ended up there. It was like a bad dream. She couldn't truthfully say that she liked dueling. It seemed like a chore. Also, there was something scary about it. She couldn't help but suspect the strange power that her opponents seemed to be possessed by. And Utena wasn't easily unnerved.
She finally made her way back to her dorm after turning away from the arena. Anthy was waiting with a letter.
"I found this on the table for you, Miss Utena."
Utena took it and thanked her. Scanning the parchment envelope quickly, she tore it open and read the contents. She groaned
Another duel. Of course. That was the only reason she received mail. Her aunt hadn't even written to her in a month.
"Who's this JS?" She asked Anthy.
Anthy read the signature and replied.
"I don't know."
Utena shivered. Then frowned. She never shivered. She removed her jacket and tossed it on the floor, where it was retrieved by Anthy. Anthy smoothed its sleeves and hung it on it's rightful hook. Utena mumbled her thanks and debated writing a reply to 'JS.' But who would she send it to? She sighed. Tomorrow was going to be another long day.
The first chapter's always the shortest… Please read and review!
