Eli ate his stale cereal as he watched the old CRT television he had gotten from the thrift store down the street. Last night had been surprisingly calm in Gotham City. According to the latest news story, only four stores and one bank had been robbed. For any other place, that much crime happening in a single night would be considered a tad extreme. But for Gotham, that's just the average Wednesday. Of course, The Batman had been there to stop the men who had tried to rob the bank in the "nice" part of the city where all the rich snobs lived. Meanwhile, the other robberies had left six people dead. Eli ran his fingers through his short blonde hair. He didn't blame Batman for going to the bank. After all, it had more money to be stolen than a few corner store cash registers, and Batman couldn't be everywhere at once. If only Nightwing or the GCPD would do something, but after Commissioner Gordon passed away from lung cancer, the cops became just as useless and corrupt as they were before Batman came along, Nightwing was busy with all the crime in Bludhaven, and nobody had seen Robin in years. Being tired of hearing nothing but bad news every time he turned on the tv, Eli switched it off and finished his breakfast. Getting up, he made his way out of his room in the basement and sauntered over to a room filled with old weights. The workout equipment was the only thing his father had left him and his two brothers when he died. They may have been ancient, but they were still good. After getting a quick workout in, Eli made his way upstairs to the living room. "About time you woke up." said Micha, his older brother. Micha and his husband Lukas were the heads of the household. The two of them had met working as security guards at Arkham Asylum. They weren't paid particularly well, so Eli had to get a part-time job working at the local computer repair place. After all, his younger brother Joel wasn't old enough to work, and putting him through school was expensive. "Work was murder last night." Eli moaned. "My job is to babysit actual murderers, how do you think I feel?" Micha retorted. Eli rolled his eyes as he slipped his shoes on and headed for the door. "Fair enough. I'm gonna head out, my boss needs me to come in early today." "Alright, just be home before 6. Lukas and I are bringing home dinner." Eli hated the thought of eating the cafeteria leftovers from Arkham, eating the same food as guys like Two-Face and Joker made him uncomfortable. "Great, more prison food. Where is Lukas anyway?" "He's just dropping Joel off at school. Apparently, Bruce Wayne is coming to give some kind of presentation." Eli was surprised that a rich guy would ever leave his billion-dollar mansion to talk to kids in the slums. "I'm shocked he'd risk getting his limo scratched so he could come to this part of town." Micha was slightly disappointed that his brother was so negative, but couldn't help a smirk. "Come on, he's a 60-year-old man. Cut him some slack." "Whatever, I just think one guy shouldn't have all that money." Eli began to head for the door. "We both know you're just jealous because he has his name on a skyscraper." Eli gave a little chuckle and headed out as Micha warned him to be safe. Hopping on his old, run-down dirt bike, Eli headed off to work. After a gruelling six-hour shift of cleaning out dead roaches and replacing broken parts in crappy old desktops, Eli finally dragged himself over to his bike and sat down attempting to start it up. It took him five or six attempts, but he finally got it working after giving the bike a swift kick. He wished he could just get some Big Belly Burger and avoid eating the leftovers of the killers and freaks locked up in that creepy mental hospital, but fast food was expensive. That, and the fact that he didn't want to offend Lukas or Micha. Finally getting home, Eli walked his bike over to the shed behind the house and locked it up. Making his way inside, he was blindsided by Joel, who tackled him into a hug. "Hey, buddy! How was school?" Joel jumped up and down as he looked up at his brother. "It was great! We got to meet Bruce Wayne! He's got a limo!" Eli couldn't hold back his smile, Joel just had that effect on people. "Are you ready for dinner?" Joel scowled and stuck out his tongue. "Arkham food is icky!" "Yeah well, so are the Arkham patients." Said Lukas as he walked up behind them. "How was work, Eli?" He asked. "Same as usual." "That bad, huh?" They headed to the dining room and took their seats. The leftover pork and beans tasted like a bowl of mud, but at least it was warm. Just then, the phone mounted to the wall began to ring. Luka moaned, got up, and picked up the phone. "Hello? Yeah, it's us. WHAT?! Yeah, yeah we're on our way." Lukas put the phone away and quickly turned to Micha. "There's been a breakout at Arkham, Two-Face, Firefly, Scarecrow, and Clayface have escaped. We gotta go NOW." Micha shot up from his seat and the two of them immediately headed for the door. "Eli, watch Joel. Alright?" "Ok, be careful." "We will don't worry." replied Luka as they headed out the door, but almost as soon as the door closed, it was blown away along with most of the wall it was attached to.
