Hey everyone! I'm back with a brand new chapter for the fanfic! Sorry if it took a bit longer than anticipated, but it's finally here!
Before I continue, I would like to give my thoughts on the Pokemon presentation that happened a few days ago. Nothing really caught my eye except for the Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl games, and the Arceus game. Both look really good and I'm really excited that we're going back to the roots of the Sinnoh region. I grew up with the original Diamond, and it still holds a special place in my heart because it was actually my first ever Pokemon game. I would love to replay it again to see just how much it's changed. I have hopes for Pokemon Legends Arceus as well. From what I've seen, it looks to be different (in a good way of course) from the traditional Pokemon game. I would love to experience more of that in this supposed prequel to the Pokemon series. However, I just hope it doesn't turn out incomplete like Sword/Shield back when it first came out. Anyway, enough about that. Let's get back to the story.
We go back to the distraction team, where the numbers are dwindling and only a few fighters are left standing. Can the fighters pull through, or will they all fall? Read on to find out! As always, don't forget to fave, follow, and review! Now let's get into this new chapter!
Final Destination Arena Platform, Several Miles above the World of Light
The team that was assigned to distract Galeem from the power plant team was struggling to hold their own against the Lord of Light's overwhelming might.
He put Rosalina out of commission which left Mewtwo to rescue her from plummeting to an abrupt end. This ended up separating the powerful psychic from the rest of the group.
The Lord of Light then unleashed a powerful sun behind him. This overwhelming ball of heat emitted rays of pure energy that seriously knocked Lucario and Falco unconscious.
Sonic saw them and managed to get the two badly wounded fighters to a safer area on the large floating platform.
As for Mario, Samus, and Pikachu, they were still in the fight.
While the beams from the sun Galeem made died down, the Lord of Light managed to single out Samus and Pikachu.
He fired a beam of concentrated energy at the bounty hunter, only for Samus to counter with a blast of her own. The two beams collided and were equal in power. However, Galeem's beam just managed to win. Realizing this, Samus deactivated her arm cannon and got out of the attack's way just in time.
Pikachu saw Galeem's distraction on Samus as an opportunity to unleash his most powerful move. The Volt Tackle.
The mouse Pokemon started to charge his electric sacs into overdrive. "Pikaaaaa…" Soon enough, his entire body was covered in powerful electricity from head to tail. He knew this would be a way to weaken the Lord of Light. He also knew that it would save his friend.
Galeem was closing in on Samus while the bounty hunter was losing her ground. The Lord of Light started to teleport ever closer to her until he was able to hit her with a powerful energy fist. This impact cracked her helmet, and took off some pieces from her front side of her armor.
He decided to use this time to taunt her. "You can't hold out much longer. Give up and I will be merciful in your subjugation."
All Samus needed to say was one simple word of refusal. "Never…"
"Unfortunate…"
Galeem then charged another attack intended to turn Samus into another trophy. However, he was stopped by an incoming projectile that was brimming with electrical power.
This was Pikachu's fully charged Volt Tackle, coupled with his rage, will, and undying faith for Samus. "CHUUUUU!"
With all this power and emotion behind the mouse Pokemon, he was able to get a good hit on Galeem.
Unfortunately, all it did was make him flinch and knock him back a little.
Once the Lord of Light came to his senses, he could see Pikachu on the ground in front of him, recovering from the move he just made.
"That attack you did must have taken a lot out of you, Pikachu." Said Galeem. "Unfortunately, you will not have better luck in the future."
He went over to where Pikachu was, and grabbed him by the tail. "Pika… pi.."
Samus could only look at what Galeem was about to do. "No! Don't! Let him go!"
She tried to move, but was unable to, given the worn down condition of both her body and armor.
With but a touch, Galeem was able to siphon off enough natural power from Pikachu to attain a boost.
The Lord of Light then tossed the mouse Pokemon aside before approaching Samus.
"What… did you… do to him…?" Said the bounty hunter furiously.
As Galeem was approaching, he decided to explain. "That Pikachu had a form of energy that I had a use for. He will recover his electricity over time, but it gave me a temporary increase in power. However, he was nothing but an appetizer compared with the larger meal I will soon have."
Samus realized what this meant and tried to move. "The Great Zapfish… Your power plant will be shut down! You won't win!"
As Galeem was within a few feet, he was about to turn her into a trophy once more, but there was one more defender willing to fight. One that appeared behind the Lord of Light.
"Leave-a her alone." Said a voice behind Galeem.
When he turned around, he saw the source of that voice: None other than Mario.
"So you are the last one standing, Mario." Said Galeem as he shifted his attention away from Samus. "Can't you see that it's hopeless to buy any more time?"
The plumber clenched his fiery fist in a sense of fury.
Galeem decided to continue. "Your friends will fail, and the power from that creature will come to me. It is only a matter of time now."
"Even if I have to hold-a you back for one more minute, that's-a good enough for me." Replied Mario. "As for my friends, I have-a faith."
"An impure thought nonetheless." Said the Lord of Light. "Think about it Mario. If I succeed, you will be a true hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. No longer saving princesses but doing so much more!"
"Here's-a my answer to that!" With that comment, Mario lit both of his hands on fire as he unleashed a barrage of fireballs at Galeem.
The Lord of Light responded by using his four wings as a shield. This served as a good defense, but blinded him from the front. Mario fortunately used this to his advantage to rush Galeem and land a flying kick right on his face,
This kick served to stun him a bit, before Mario unleashed a flurry of punches to his face and chest. The Lord of Light had no choice but to absorb each one.
As Mario was about to deliver another right hook, Galeem saw an opening and caught the fist. He then threw the plumber twenty meters away from him where he started to fire beams of energy at the airborne target from his fingers.
Mario saw what Galeem was about to do and dove back to the ground carefully to avoid getting hit by the beams.
"I don't know how much longer we can hold on!" Said Cappy.
In the heat of the battle, Mario was trying to keep a level head. "Keep-a hanging on Cappy! We just-a need to endure!"
As he landed back onto the floating ground, he used an opening in the beams Galeem kept firing to throw Cappy in an attempt to subdue him.
When the sentient hat landed on the Lord of Light's head, it only served to stun him for a bit before getting shut out.
This defense in his mind knocked Cappy back toward Mario as he returned to his head. "Sorry, Mario. I really thought he could be controlled…"
"It's-a ok Cappy. You did your best…" Said Mario as he was recovering from the earlier attack.
Galeem then fired another beam that Mario managed to avoid just in time. However, this was the wrong move to make. The Lord of Light managed to teleport behind the plumber.
Before he was able to react, Mario found himself receiving pummel after powered up pummel, knocking Cappy unconscious and off the plumber's head in the process.
With the sentient hat down, Mario knew he couldn't beat him. He could, however, buy enough time for the other team to shut down the power plant.
With whatever last energy he had left, he threw an overwhelming amount of fireballs at Galeem. Unfortunately, the Lord of Light managed to stretch his hand out and form a vortex which absorbed every fireball the plumber threw at him.
When Mario stopped firing, Galeem managed to shoot out a wide, but concentrated wave of fire from his chest.
This surprised Mario, who couldn't escape the wave in time. This pushed him back quite a bit, while also leaving serious burn marks on his shirt and overalls.
Without his strength and energy, not to mention Cappy being out, Mario was left at a disadvantage as the last fighter standing. His body was failing him as he struggled to get back up.
"Give up." Said Galeem. "Surrender now, and I shall be merciful in your control."
"You already know-a my answer to that…" Said the plumber as he got on one knee. "You… should-a give up… instead..."
However, before the Lord of Light was about to finish Mario off, an electric white light shone in the air. This caught the attention of every fighter that was down, as well as Galeem himself.
Unfortunately, Galeem knew that victory was just within reach when he saw the light coming straight toward him.
Once everyone on the distraction team saw the approaching stream of pure electric light energy, they all knew what it meant: Their allies had failed.
Mario could only utter one more phrase as his struggling body finally forced him to the ground. "Everyone… I'm-a sorry... I thought-a we could win…"
