Newborn

Angel curled his lip in disgust as his scythe ripped through a pair of ghouls. The majority of them were surrounding the police girl up ahead, but Angel had intercepted about a quarter of them. It wasn't really necessary, since he was technically supposed to be backup, but he always got bored on missions. His superior was fond of hogging all the fun.

A ghoul leapt at him from behind and he spun his scythe down and around, splitting it up the middle without looking. He extended his left hand, catching the shaft of his scythe in front of himself before twisting his hands and spinning, decapitating the last of the ghouls. As he finished, he let the blade of his scythe stab into the ground. The entire thing was crimson, and the back of the shaft opposite the blade had a small, diamond-shaped blade on it about six inches long and three wide, the top end of the shaft, by the blade, was pointed, and the base of the shaft was decorated with a skull. The entirety of the shaft was twisted metal, like several metal rods all twisted together, and yet, the entire thing was formed from his blood. He reabsorbed the blood through a slit in his right wrist just as a gunshot rang out in the distance, his superior's firing having paused a few seconds ago just as he finished the ghouls. He sighed, shaking his head and walking through the trees to a small clearing, only to stop as he saw his superior standing with his left hand driven completely through their target's heart, and the police girl they were trying to save lying on the ground with a hole drilled completely through her right breast.

"You missed the target, Alucard," Angel said flatly.

"Now son, that's not true at all," Alucard said. "I shot him through her, that's all."

Angel huffed, shaking his head, then looked back at the police girl. "What a waste of a perfectly fuckable chick."

"She's a virgin," Alucard said.

"Is that right?" Angel asked, raising an eyebrow. "You gonna turn her?"

"I figured I'd let you decide," Alucard said.

Angel walked over and knelt beside the girl, her eyes slowly dragging over to look at him. Tears were running out of her eyes, and she raised a hand toward him, only for her strength to fail. He caught her hand, staring into her glazed-over eyes. She was fading fast. He could see his reflection almost perfectly in her eyes. His snow-white hair, his crimson irises, his pale skin.

"Do you want me to turn you?" he asked.

She stared at him, struggling to speak. All she managed was a choked gargle and a slight squeeze of his hand.

"Better hurry," Alucard said.

"I've got her," Angel said, leaning down. He paused just shy of her neck, looking up at Alucard again. "Sure you don't want her? I don't want to spoil your beautiful night."

"You haven't eaten today," Alucard said. "You could use a snack."

Angel nodded and bit into her neck, draining her of what little blood remained before forcing his own into her, transforming her. Once she had stabilized and the hole in her chest had healed, Angel picked her up, glancing at Alucard.

"She's not going to be as strong as if you had turned her yourself," Angel said.

"Oh, I'm sure she'll turn out just fine," Alucard said. "You may be two generations below me, but you certainly took to your powers much more than any other vampire I've ever met."

"And yet, I'm only just getting used to using my powers while you're basically immortal even with most of your powers sealed," Angel said.

Alucard shrugged. "It'll be fine. She wouldn't have been as strong as me anyway, and whether or not she's strong at all is all about whether or not she decides to consume blood."

"True," Angel nodded, just as they stepped out of the trees and found their boss, Sir Integra Hellsing waiting for them with her butler Walter, a man who Angel would never, ever cross.

"Who is this?" Integra asked.

"Newborn," Angel said. "She'll be coming with me."

Integra raised an eyebrow before nodding. "Alright. Let's get going, then."

Angel and Alucard nodded, walking over to the helicopter waiting for them.

Angel watched as the police girl tossed and turned. She wasn't having a very good dream, which was understandable, given all that had happened before she was turned. Finally, she sat bolt upright, gasping for breath. She yanked her pajama shirt up to check for a bullet hole before sighing upon seeing it was healed.

"How do you feel?" Angel asked.

The police girl jumped badly, spinning to him and yanking her shirt back down. "Who are you!?"

"My name's Angel," he said calmly. "Do you remember what was happening before you went to sleep? Before you were shot?"

The girl nodded.

"Those creatures you were fighting were ghouls, under the command of a vampire, the priest," Angel said, the girl's eyes widening. "A ghoul is the result of a vampire trying to transform someone who doesn't fit the criteria to become a vampire."

"Criteria?" the police girl asked. "And what accent is that? Are you American?"

"I am," Angel nodded. "And the criteria to become a vampire is that you have to be a virgin of the opposite gender as the vampire."

"HUH!?" she shrieked, blushing bright red and wrapping her arms around herself.

"You're too loud, police girl," Integra said, walking into the room with Walter. "I don't care if you are a vampire. You're still English, have some manners."

"I haven't seen a lot of those manners since I came here," Angel said. "I keep being made fun of for my hair."

"I told you to dye it," Integra said.

"Too much work," Angel said, waving a hand at her dismissively.

"Sorry, but where am I?" the police girl asked.

"This is our headquarters," Integra said. "We are called the Hellsing organization. We are the monsters that protect England from the other monsters."

"So you're telling me...you're saying that I'm-"

"Given your condition, you'll be working for us from now on," Integra said, as Walther walked forward and held out a yellow uniform for the police girl. "We've received word of a string of Vampire attacks. Go and kill the vampire, police girl."

The girl stared at the uniform for a moment before sighing and nodding, accepting it. Everyone left the room so that she could change in privacy. Once she had joined them in the hallway, Angel motioned for her to follow him. As they walked, she glanced at him several times, taking in his hair, his eyes, the calm, almost cold expression on his face, his black trench coat over loose black jeans, a black sweatshirt, and black utility boots. Finally, he glanced at her. She blushed and looked away instantly.

"You don't need to be nervous," Angel said. "I'll answer any questions you have. But first, what's your name?"

"Seras," the girl said. "Seras Victoria." She frowned at the floor in thought for a moment. "You said that only virgins can be turned?"

"That's right," Angel nodded. "And only by a vampire of the opposite gender."

She nodded. "Why turn me?"

"You wanted me to," Angel said. "You chose this."

"But why even offer it?" Seras asked.

Angel shrugged. "I had no true reason. You were dying, and I figured I'd offer you an alternative."

Seras nodded. "And...how exactly am I supposed to kill a vampire? I don't have any guns, not that they're that effective anyway."

"You'll be given a gun for the mission," Angel said. "And the bullets are going to be blessed silver, so they'll be effective."

Seras's eyes widened slightly before she nodded. "That's what that other one said. Your partner."

Angel snorted, shaking his head. "Alucard's not my partner. He's my superior. He's the most powerful vampire alive, and is responsible for me having been turned."

"What do you mean?" Seras frowned.

"I had an incurable disease, which is why my hair's white," Angel said. "My sister was desperate enough that she tracked down Alucard and demanded he turn her into a vampire, so that she could turn me. So he did."

"Is your sister here, too?" Seras asked.

"No," Angel said, going silent.

Seras opened her mouth, but closed it again, also falling silent. After another minute, they reached the garage where Alucard was waiting beside the armored truck they'd be taking. In his right hand was a long, custom made machine gun that Integra had had made for Seras. He passed it to her before climbing in, Seras and Angel joining him.

"Did you explain the job to her?" Alucard asked.

Angel narrowed his eyes at him. "Not yet. But we have a long drive."

Alucard nodded, and as they left the garage, they began to explain how the job worked, mostly how to kill vampires. Remove the head, or stab them in the heart.

"It has to be blessed silver," Angel said. "Or another vampire. That's why my weapons work." He held out his hand, a slit opening in his wrist, the blood flowing to his hand and forming into a dagger before condensing to as solid as steel. "I form weapons from my own blood, so they are also able to kill vampires."

Seras nodded. "Will I have that ability?" Seras asked.

"Most likely," Alucard said. "You will also most likely possess the ability to control solid shadows. As you are descended from my own bloodline, you will have the potential to wield my powers."

Seras frowned. "Your bloodline?"

"Vampire bloodline," Angel clarified. "In order to make a vampire, you have to drain someone, then offer your own, remember?"

She nodded. She continued to ask them questions about the job and about vampires for the rest of the several hour drive before she and Angel climbed to the roof of a building across the street from where their targets were. Alucard went to the house they were in, ringing the doorbell before firing through the door. He kicked it, shattering it, and walked inside, many, many more gunshots ringing out before it finally ended. All the while, the female vampire from the couple they were assigned to kill fled down the road.

"Police girl's turn," Alucard said through the telepathic connection he had with Angel, as a result of their special circumstances.

"Yes, sir!" Seras said, Angel raising an eyebrow.

"You heard him?" Angel asked.

"Yes," Seras nodded.

"Interesting," Alucard mused. "What are you waiting for? Do it!"

"Sir, she's already five, no, six hundred meters away," Seras reported.

"That won't matter," Angel said. "Close your eyes for a moment and shoulder the rifle."

Seras did as instructed and Angel placed his fingertips against her forehead. "Imagine a third eye on your forehead. It has the ability to see at night and to focus hundreds of times further than your own. You won't even need your scope. Now, open your eyes, trust your new sight, and fire."

Seras opened her eyes, hesitating for a moment before focusing. Her irises turned red, and she squeezed the trigger. The gunshot rang out, the kick that would have shattered her shoulder as a human barely budging her, and six hundred fifty meters away, the target's chest exploded. Seras sat rigid for a moment, seeming frozen, before lowering her gun.

"It's all too fast," Seras breathed. "What on earth am I becoming?"

"You're becoming a vampire," Angel said, standing and offering her his hand. "Excellent shooting."

Her eyes widened for a moment before she smiled, accepting his hand. "Thank you, Master."

"Not yet," Alucard said inside Angel's head, Angel blocking it from transferring to Seras, too. "This is only the beginning. And there's a long road ahead of her."

"It'll be fine," Angel thought, projecting his thoughts along their connection.

"Are we done, Master?" Seras asked.

"For now, yes," Angel nodded. "Come on. Let's head to the truck."

Seras nodded and Angel picked her up before dropping to the ground. He set her back on her feet and they walked to the truck, Alucard joining them partway there. Once they were in, they began back toward headquarters.
