In the remnants of Tokyo-03 a young boy stood, hand by a pay phone, in the silent city. He wasn't much really, a young 14-year-old with a tucked white shirt and black school pants. "We're terribly sorry, but due to the state of emergency all lines have been cut." The monotone voice repeated, leaving the medium-length brown haired boy to blink and sigh.
"No luck, huh?"
Behind him was a boy of around his age wearing a red jacket and grey cargo pants. He has long brown hair that he keeps in a ponytail and dark-blue eyes, but what was striking was that his face is almost identical to Shinji's.
"No… none at all." Shinji replied as he placed the phone back. "And no cell phone signal… and movable vehicles either."
The boy turns around and looks at the sky. Shinji was skeptical of this person. From what he could tell, he has been here longer than he has.
(Flashback)
"H-hi, my name is Shinji… Shinji Ikari."
The boy turns around and smiles. "Nice to meet you Shinji. You can call me Adam."
Shinji's eyes widen at how remarkably similar he looks to him, almost like looking at a mirror. "You... you look just like me."
"So do you..." Adam responded.
The two boys stared at each other for a good minute, waiting for some kind of response.
"S-so what are you doing here?" Shinji asked.
Adam turns his attention to the empty road. "Nothing really, just waiting the same as you."
"Waiting…? Waiting for what?" Shinji asked.
"For a reason to be here." Adam cooly replied.
Shinji looked at him oddly. Just what is he talking about?
After sometime, Shinji decided to try and make a phone call.
(Flashback ends)
Taking out his school bag, Shinji looked at the picture in his other hand. He was apparently supposed to meet her, an older blue haired female in a yellow tank top with the words "Feast your eyes on this~!" while an arrow pointed at her breasts.
"Damn, this woman is daring! Has she not heard of sexual harassment?" Adam exclaimed as he got a good look at the picture.
Shinji gives Adam a blank look before turning to his watch. "No way will I be able to meet her now… we better head to a shelter…"
Sensing something, the boys turn to see a… girl standing alone in the far street. They couldn't make out her face, but they saw her vibrant sky blue hair. Abruptly, a flock of birds flew up at the sudden sound of a far away boom. When the boys glanced at them, then back; the girl was gone.
"The fuck…?" Adam muttered.
Shinji stood confused for a second before the sound and rush of heated air passed them by. Garage shutters rustled and plants flinched at the fast air. Adam and Shinji covered their ears, gasping before turning to the sounds of explosions.
In the distance, the boys saw several JSSDF VTOLs retreating, raining missiles towards a closing target. Shinji gasped at the object for it was no machine, but rather a large living being. It stood tall, humanoid with large bone-like shoulders and a bird-like mask for a face. Under its "head" was a large red sphere surrounded by four small bone-like ribs to, what Shinji believed, held it into the chest. It walked slouched, it's almost leg long arms swinging slightly with each step it took.
"No effect! Target still stands!" A pilot roared in the comms, before screaming as the creature fired a bright beam of light at the VTOL. Its cockpit blows up, sending crashing down… straight towards us!
Adam pulls Shinji away as the ship crashes down just a few meters away from them. The creature, unknowingly named Sachiel, jumped in awe as a white halo appeared above its "head".
"There's a reason!" Adam yelled as he grabbed Shinji and made a break for it.
Shinji screams in fear as the creature's foot cashes into the downed ship, crushing it with ease. He pulled his arm to protect himself from the oncoming flames, but didn't notice the car come up before him. Looking back, Shinji sees a blue Renault Alpine A310 blocking the dying fire. Its door opens, revealing the woman he was meant to meet up in shades and a black dress, "Sorry, I'm late," the woman greeted the boys with a surprisingly friendly tone. "Hurry up and get in you two!"
Sachiel blinked as the VTOLs rained more missiles, somewhat confused as to how the humans believed they could stop the retribution of ADAM and his children. Down below, the two boys rushed inside with Shinji taking the front seat and Adam the backseat. The mysterious female driver gunned it into reverse, pulling her and her young passengers as more explosions ensued. "Hold tight!" She yells out, spinning her Renault around to face away from the attack, rushing towards the outer streets.
"Target is advancing through Tokyo-03, repeat; Target is advancing." A voice rang from the comms of the large command center. The Command Center was huge, a large video screen sat at the front with three massive holograms on the flooring showing the topography of the area. At the back sat a large array of box-like command floors stood at the far wall, with several technicians and JSSDF generals at the top. "The Air Force had no effect on the target!"
"Do whatever you have to, have the 4th Division open fire at that thing!" A japanese general ordered, right beside two other generals.
"Throw everything you have at it! Destroy it at all cost!" The other japanese general followed , slamming his fists onto the table. "Save no expense!"
Outside, missile launching trucks rained hell from above, with support from the 4th Division and high atmosphere air bombers. No luck; the city was absolutely devastated, but the monster stood, unhurt and seemingly taunting the humans to continue their feeble attempts at hurting it.
"Damn it! This thing won't die!" One of the generals growled, breaking his pencil with angered glare at Sachiel.
"The 4th Division Tank Battalion has been completely wiped out…" Another general stated, leaning back into his chair. "Missiles and artillery have no effect on it…"
"Damn it!" The general roared. "It's useless! Nothing will help us stop it!"
"So, it has an A.T. Field after all?" An older man wearing a dark reddish-brown buttonless uniform said.
"Indeed," the man sitting next to him agreed. He wore an outfit similar to his colleague except it was black and he wore white gloves. His fingers intertwined and resting over his mouth as his glasses flash sending a glare off the video feed. "Conventional weapons are useless against the Fourth Angel."
With the three Japanese generals, a long red phone rang to life to which a general picked up. "...Yes?" The general asked. After a pregnant pause, his eyes widened "...WHAT!?"
Outside, something begins to come into view. It was a ship of some kind. The ship was large and long, larger than a skyscraper. It was blue in color. On both sides were artillery guns of sorts, with three barrels mounted on each side, giving it a total of six. Underneath it were two large structures which seem to be the engines, but for some reason the structures vaguely resemble arms with four more engines right above them.
Down below, the mysterious woman and her passengers sat a few miles from the remnants of the city. The woman watched with her binoculars as Sachiel started at the mysterious ship. There, she saw the artillery guns line up, aiming directly at Sachiel; it then fired a particle beam from each barrel which seemed to have no effect.
However, that is far from the truth.
A closer look revealed that the beam somehow had the effect of eroding Sachiel's A.T. Field. Noticing this, Sachiel attacks the ship with its own beam, which ricochets revealing that the ship has a barrier protecting it.
The woman looks away from her binoculars, mouth gaping at the sight. "No way… it's actually holding out against the Angel…"
She uses her binoculars again, when all of a sudden the JSSDF VTOLs quickly fly away from them.
Almost as if…
"No… they plan to use an N2 mine!?" She cried out, pulling her young passengers under her (A: Nice view~). "TAKE COVER!"
It went silent for a moment, before an ear ripping explosion ensued. It engulfed Sachiel's form along with the blue ship, and the aftershock sent the woman's car flying off the road and into the dirt.
"We did it!" One of the generals stood from his seat, laughing in victory as he turned to the two men above him. "Looks like you wouldn't be needed after all, Commander Ikari!"
"Oh?" The older man by the commander's side asked with a grin. "Let's hope so."
"Shockwave incoming!" The video cuts off as the wave sends the feed into static.
Outside, the woman and her passengers stood next to her Renault, flipped on its side. "You two alright?"
"Yeah," Shinji replied, smiling at her. "Just got some dust in my mouth."
"I'll be honest, I would prefer if I didn't have sand in my eyes but beggars can't be choosers. "Adam rubs his eyes to get the dust particles out of them.
"Great, now help me out…" Both the woman and the boys got to the side of the car's roof, flipping it back. "Ready? And… PUSH!"
For a second the Renault seemed stuck, before it finally fell to the ground. The sighs with a smile. "Nice job guys! Couldn't have done it without you!" The boys nodded in response.
"Oh it's no problem, Miss Katsuragi." Shinji replied.
"Please, just call me Misato; being called Ms. Katsuragi makes me feel old." The woman, Misato, answers as she takes off her shades to reveal her brown eyes. She then turns to the other boy. "I don't think I got your name yet."
Adam gives Misato a friendly smile. "My name is Adam, a pleasure and question are those real?" He points at her chest.
It was slight, but for a brief moment Misato's eye twitched at hearing his name only to return to her cheery attitude. "Yup, these are 100% natural!" She exclaims with pride. "Well, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance boys."
"Oh um… thank you." Shinji replied with a smile.
"Can we confirm the creature and ship have been destroyed?" The general asked, watching holographic geographic terrain coming to life. "It should be dead from an explosion like that!"
"Visual restored energy spikes detected in crater epicenter!" The feed came, revealing Sachiel at its burning center and the blue ship still hung high in the air undamaged as well. The generals all stood up, gasped by the destruction of the city; and yet horrified by that monster's survival.
Outside, Sachiel's body slowly healed itself. Whatever burn marks and injuries it sustains slowly vanished as it altered itself; its beak-shaped "mask" was pushed to the side to show a smaller skull-like mask come out, blacks eye sockets flashing red. It turned its gaze towards the blue ship, only for it to simply vanish on the spot.
At the command center, the generals all sighed, slowly taking their seats. "That was our ace in the hole…" One general groaned.
"We have no more resources to use…." The other general, the middle one who was silent for the whole operation, finally spoke.
"Damn monster!" The final general roared, slamming his fist on the table once more.
There! The Renault is still working!" Misato cheered, happy to see her quite literally bandaged car drive smoothly towards the station. "It'd really sucked for it to die, you know since I got 12 payments on the lease and stuff! Besides that, I called ahead for our train so we should make it."
Shinji nodded and continued looking out the window. This has been an extreme turn of events; from being in his comfy room with his relatives to nearly getting crushed by a monster the size of a skyscraper not to mention the appearance of that gigantic ship. Now he was riding with a boy he barely knows and a woman who claims to know his "father."
"Hey, dude…" Shinji turns to look at Adam, "it's okay if you're scared, I mean look at my hands; they are still shaking." He showed Shinji his hands, which are shaking like he said.
"I'm not scared…" Shinji muttered under his breath.
Adam raised a bow. "Really? Almost getting crushed by a giant monster and almost getting burned alive didn't scare you!? I call bullshit, dude! You were shaking like a leaf!"
"Sh-shut up!"
"Alright, alright that's enough you two." Misato said. "So, do you have any questions for me Shinji?"
"Mn, no not really…" Shinji mused.
"You're not very talkative, are you? It's just been me and your friend there that are doing most of the talking. What about you Adam?"
"No… not yet at least." Adam said.
"I'm sorry…"
"Oh, it's nothing to apologize for. But I was wondering if you were going to ask "What was that bing thing!?" or "What the hell's going on here!? Or maybe even "What the hell was that blue ship in the sky!?" Spoilers, I can only answer two of those questions." Misato said.
"Oh well… I don't have a reason to… And I don't think you'd answer any of my questions because you know… secrecy and such." Shinji shrugged.
Shinji looked at her; for an adult like her to say that, it made him feel like she was… childish. "Don't worry about it," Shinji replies, looking forward with glare in his eyes. "I'll be fine."
Misato sighed, she was hoping not to meet Shinji like this, but then again, no one has ever claimed to have met someone while running from a giant monster and an equally large ship. Come to think of it, where did that ship even come from? Ritsuko never said anything about building a ship like that, especially one that can hold out against an Angel and an N2 mine.
Just what the hell is going on?
"Well, just to let you know that creature is called an 'Angel.'" Misato explained. "The 4th Angel, to be precise."
On screen, Sachiel is seen already fully healed and is heading towards Tokyo-03.
Fuyutsuki marbles in awe at the Angel's regeneration. "It processes such an astonishing ability for regeneration."
"And on its own, it stands as a near-perfect being." Gendo comments.
"'Near perfect'...?"
"It only has this ability due to processing the Fruit of Life along with the goal of exterminating us, humans who possess the Fruit of Wisdom." Gendo finished, watching the 4th Angel continue its movement.
"I'm sorry, what?" Adam said.
"I just said, it's an Angel."
"WHAT!?" Adam exclaimed.
"Do you have a problem or something?" Misato groaned.
"Yeah, one. Why the fuck is it called an angel!?" Adam yelled. "Out of all the names you could pick, why call it an angel!? Because that thing looks nothing like an angel!"
"Look it wasn't my idea, okay! You'll want to talk to the commander about choosing the name!" Misato exclaimed.
"Maybe I will." Adam huffed.
Meanwhile, the car reaches a metal door which closes behind them the moment the car passes through. "Secret Agency NERV?" Shinji read outloud, looking at the logo with the phrase "God In His Heaven, All's Right with the World." underneath.
"Yup, a private organization ran by the U.N. directly." Misato explained, hearing Adam whistle in the back. She turns to Shinji as the car descends downwards. "Do you know what your father does here?"
Shinji looked at her for a split second, yet to him it felt like an hour or so. 'How could she not know his work IF she works for him!?' He thought as he gave Misato a serious stare to ask such a question.
Unfortunately, Adam was more extroverted than him. "How could you not know his work if you work for him!?"
Misato lets out a nervous chuckle. "W-well, he is the head of the organization, but outside of that no one know what he does."
Adam leans his back on the seat, "that's very reassuring, Katsuragi."
Gendo Ikari, a 40-year-old man with brown hair and beard, starred up through his glasses to the three Japanese generals. "Commander Ikari, henceforth you are in command of this operation." The oldest general states, looking down at Ikari. "While I'll admit our forces had no effect on this creature, can we be assured your organization can do this?"
Gendo fixes his glasses and smirks. "That's what NERV is for gentlemen." The generals nodded in understanding, before their platform lowered down.
Kozo Fuyutsuki, his Sub-Commander, walks towards him. "And what about the blue ship? That was not part of their predictions."
"Yes, but we may use it to our advantage against them." Gendo said.
"So, I assume we'll be meeting my father then?" Shinji asked slowly, to make positively sure his question was heard by Misato.
"Yeah, I assume he'll be there…" Her answer seemed to only make Shinji angrier.
The train continues its descent in the metal ground. Shinji and Adam stared forward, waiting for something until Misato held passed him something. "Here, read this." She stated, revealing it to be a booklet which read "WELCOME TO NERV; FOR YOUR EYES ONLY." "It'll keep your mind off your father for now…"
Adam, from the backseat, looks at the booklet and turns to Misato. "Say, do you have a second copy for me?"
"No, I only have the one… and you're not even allowed to read it let alone have a copy." Misato said.
Adam pouts and leans back to his seat.
Shinji opens the booklet to see… a simple welcome and what he'd probably be greeted with. Men at work, piping and machine whirling; clear signs of a building under construction. "By the way, Shinji. Did your father send you a card?"
Shinji went through his bag and eventually pulled out an envelope. He opens it and inside was what looks to be an ID card along with a… napkin? with the words "Come." written on it.
"Seriously, he sends you a napkin in the mail with a single word written on it!?" Adam takes the napkin away from his hands and glares at it. "He could have at least written something like "Dear Shinji, I need you to come to Tokyo-03. -Love, Dad." But this is just ridiculous!" Adam ranted.
"Yeah well… that guy isn't the most social person to work for and he gives everyone the creeps." Misato said.
Shinji lets out a hollow chuckle. "Figures he'd only contact me when he wants something."
Misato frowns. "You don't get along with your father huh?"
"No, not after my mother's passing… and..." He stopped himself, looking away. He didn't want to recall that; too many bad memories.
"Huh, me neither… guess we have that in common." Shinji blinked at that. Misato was like him and his father? Before he could ask, they were greeted by a flash of light. The light faded to reveal a sunset… underground!?
"Holy shit!" Adam yelled from behind.
"Whoa, an actual Geo-Front!" Shinji was shocked beyond anything he's ever seen! Large towering apartments and buildings stood at the center roof of the Geo-Front, as if the city was flipped upside-down. Below it was a large lake beside a black pyramid with a tall white rectangular tower by its side.
"Yep, this is our secret base NERV Headquarters." Misato announces, smiling at the two excited boys. "Humanity's last hope; the keystone to rebuilding the Earth."
Author Notes
And that's the first chapter. So, what do you think? I think I did a pretty good job with this chapter. My idea for the MC is make him Shinji's polar opposite and pretty much serve as his brother figure. As for how the updates will work, it'll basically be random as I want to focus on finishing my other works.
