The red liquid is released from Unit-01's tank, slowly revealing its humanoid-like body. Like the head, its body possesses purple with neon green armor plating, and a very humanoid physique. It has a large backpack-like armor piece, metal forearm covering the back of the kneecaps, and metal shoe-like feet. The front of Unit-01's neck is yelled; as if lit inside for the pilot to see through.
"Third Cooling Cycle is Complete!"
"Flywheel rotation shutdown."
"Connectors are unlocking… now!"
"Auxiliary power is stable!"
"Shutdown Signal Plug extraction complete."
"Roger, inserting an Entry Plug now."
Behind Unit-01's head, the back armor opened to reveal a circular slot at the nape of the neck. A mechanical arm slowly descends to allow a wire cylinder-like plug to enter the slot. It spins inward and locks itself firmly into the EVA's torso.
"Spinal conductive network has been unlocked; we're now prepared for the connection."
Inside the plug, Adam can feel it shutter as it is inserted into the EVA. His seat consists mostly of two handheld devices with at least three visible triggers. These handles can be detached at one end to become similar to joysticks. On his head are what Ritsuko called "A-10 Connectors", a thin, hairband-shaped wire linking two small pods. The wire section is nestled beneath the hair and is obscured from view, making it appear as if the headset is composed of two separate devices clipped on top of the head.
To be honest, he should be scared or maybe even doubting himself given the situation. Instead, he is overjoyed to pilot like he was told he was getting a bike for Christmas; not really considering that he might die if he loses.
"Bah, details!" Adam said, "lets enjoy the moment while it lasts."
"Prime sync is established with EVA and pilot. Psychological corruption values now within acceptable range."
"Maintaining range between plus-02 and minus-05."
"Locking the interior way."
Outside the Entry Plug, Unit-01 neck armor closes back onto the frame, covering the Entry Plug and allowing the head to return to an upright position. Unit-01's dull yellow eyes "open", as if awakening from a long slumber.
"First contact is complete!"
"Flooding Entry Plug."
As soon as they say that, Adam looks down to see an orange-like liquid quickly rising above his legs and the controls.
"What the hell!?" It was all Adam could say before he took a deep breath as the liquid went over his head.
"Relax, Adam." Ritsuko's voice came from the Entry Plug's communication system. "The liquid, or LCL, is oxygenized, you should have no trouble breathing it."
'She better not be lying.' Adam let out all of the air in his lungs, then let in the LCL. He chokes for a moment as the liquid goes into his lungs. "Tastes like blood…!"
"Oh grow up, you're a man aren't you?" Misato called out.
"Oh I'm sorry, are you in the giant robot?" Adam asked calmly.
"Well… no, but-"
"Then shut the fuck up! You don't get to say what I can or can't complain about!" Adam sharply replies, earning Misato's annoyance and Ritsuko's snickering. The Entry Plug's circular walls flash a multitude of colors before finally showing the outside of the EVA, and how high Adam is. It is like seeing through a glass window, except he is actually seeing through the eyes of a giant.
Outside, Unit-01's shoulder and back restraints move away, along with the front platform before its face; allowing it to be pulled back towards a largely open wall. Above the EVA, several metal doors open to reveal a rather long railway that leads to Tokyo-03's city center.
Central Dogma
Shinji stands beside Misato and Ritsuko as he stares at a trio of computer technicians.
"A-10 Nerve Connections are steady!"
"LCL ionization normal, and the Linguistic Norm for the Cognitive Interface has been completely set for Japanese."
"Communication lines are open."
"Points on the lists are up to 1405, all clear."
"Hmm!? Maya are you sure this is correct?" Ritsuko asked.
The female technician beside her, Maya Ibuki, nods. "Yes, senpai. I've triple checked and readings come back the same."
"But his synchronization rate is at 100%!" Ritsuko exclaimed, shocked that a complete outsider is able to sync with the EVA to such a degree.
"Is that good?" Shinji asked.
Misato looks at him with a smile. "It's more than good, Shinji. It means we have a future."
"Harmonics are at steady levels. Everything's all set, senpai." Maya reported to both her and Colonel Katsuragi.
"Unit-01 has now arrived at Launch Terminal Hub K-12, the launch tube is all clear!" The technician in the middle, Makoto Hyuga reported.
Misato turns to the Commander and Sub-Commander above them. "Sirs, we're all set; do you wish to deploy?"
"Yes." Gendo states, without hesitation nor fear. "Our only hope for a better future is to defeat the Angels with the EVAs. We must push forward."
Misato nodded, not waiting as Sub-Commander Fuyutsuki asked his colleague. "Are you absolutely sure, Ikari?" He asked, though he didn't need to look to notice Gendo smirking under his gloved hands.
"EVA Unit-01, LAUNCH!" The EVA is sent though the railway at high speeds, making Adam shutter in the Entry Plug. The EVA shone at all the light it passed, and Adam couldn't help but have a huge smile on his face.
It's showtime.
On the surface, Sachiel wanders silently and calmly. At this point, there is nothing to fight or destroy; it must find a way underground to get to the first Angel. By some impeccable timing, Sachiel turns to the corner of a building much larger than itself and notices an open space.
The ground gate opened, and out came EVA Unit-01. Silence fills the deathly calm air; both giants staring at each other. If it had a mouth, Sachiel would be smiling; finally an opportunity has risen.
Now all that is left is to get rid of the obstacle in the way.
"Adam, can you hear me?" Misato's voice through the Entry Plug internal comm systems.
"Yeah, I'm here. Gotta be honest, the Angel's a lot uglier in person." Adam stated.
"Alright then, release the final safety locks!" The locks on the EVA's pylons are released and the cage withdraws back underground, letting Unit-01 slouch somewhat forward. "EVA Unit-01, lift off!"
"Alright, Adam; try concentrating on walking first." Ritsuko explained through the comms, somewhat attempting to ease Adam's anxiety, though it seems to have the opposite effect.
'Walking?' The EVA's foot moves as it takes a step forward.
Adam smirks. "So this thing responds based on my thoughts, huh? Then let's go full throttle!"
Unit-01 body lowers a bit, before dashing straight at the Angel. Sachiel tries to counter by lifting both of its arms in an attempt to pin the EVA. However, the purple mech leaps upward and lands behind the Angel. Sachiel doesn't have time to react as a purple fist makes contact with its face-like mask, sending it crashing to a nearby building.
"Wow, that was amazing!" Shinji exclaims.
Both Misato and Ritsuko look at the screen as if in trance, unable to comprehend what just happened. "He's actually holding his own against the Angel…"
"..." Gendo simply stares as Unit-01 picks up a fallen building and slams it at the Angel.
"This wasn't part of the plan…" Fuyutsuki muttered.
Suddenly, a long appendage grabs Unit-01's head. The Third Angel rises from the ground and stares at Adam right in the eye with that emotionless, dead stare.
"Goddammit, get off me!" Adam barked. Unit-01's arms shoots up and grabs the Angel's arm in an attempt to crush it. However, Sachiel fires an energy beam from its claw as it tries to pierce its head.
Adam gasps in pain and screams; it feels as if he is the one that's getting hurt. "Fuck!" Adam feels his head getting bombarded by waves of pain as the Third Angel continues firing the energy beam. The energy cracks the hull and metal of Unit-01, finally tearing through its left eye and sending it across the city.
Unit-01 crashes into a building, its head dipped downwards. The still functioning right eye shuts off as "blood" flows out of the left eye.
"Cranial damage, severity is unknown!"
"Operational integrity is compromised!"
"What's the status!?" Misato demanded.
"Synchro graph is reversing! Pulse is entering a reflux!" Maya yelled.
"Cut all circuits, and block the flow!" Ritsuko ordered, watching the screen Maya sat in front of.
"We can't! The signal is being rejected; we can't get through!"
"W-what about Adam!?" Shinji asked.
"Pilot status!?" Misato asks Makoto.
"No response from the monitoring system, condition is unknown!" Makoto cries out.
"Unit-01 has gone silent!"
Shinji's hands balled into fists. He couldn't do anything, he let Adam take his place and now he's probably dead! Why does he so… worthless!?
'It should have been me…!' Shinji thought. 'I should have gone to fight, not him!'
Misato grits her teeth, there's no other choice. "Abort the operation! Our top priority is rescuing the pilot!" Misato ordered, looking to Ritsuko and Maya. "Eject the Entry Plug!"
Maya goes through her keyboard typing the override commands, however, something appears on her screen. "What the!?"
What's wrong?" Ritsuko leans closer to Maya to get a closer look at her screen.
"The MAGI is picking up some kind of spatial disturbance in front of Unit-01." Maya reported.
"A spatial disturbance!?" Ritsuko looks up at the large screen, where everyone could see the space rippling in front of the EVA.
Two massive arms come out of the distortion and grab the Third Angel by its arms before using its strength to easily rip them off their sockets. Sachiel screams in pain and, enraged, fires a light beam at the interloper only for it to look unfazed as the beam simply disappears through the distortion. This is impossible, no tool made by Lilim hands is capable of withstanding the light unless-!
Before anything can be done, an energy beam shoots from the distortion and directly into the red orb on its solar plexus. The Angel's body breaks down completely into a blood-like substance before detonating into a cross-shaped explosion, destroying everything in the area.
NERV HQ shakes from the explosion above, revealing it to have formed a large bright cross of energy with a rainbow behind its shimmering form. Misato and the others watch in shock, bewildered by a mysterious entity that beated the Angel in no time flat.
Shinji blinks out of his trance and grabs Misato's jacket. "W-where's Adam!?"
Misato blinks once before turning to the bridge bunnies. "What… what's Unit-01's status?"
The central screen switches to reveal the stilled form of Unit-01, still in the state it was left in by the Angel.
"Right, begin salvage operations! The pilot's safety is our first priority!" Misato ordered. With that everyone in Central Dogma scrambles to get things in order. Shinji prays that Adam has survived.
No one notices the frown on Gendo's face. "This isn't part of the scenario…"
Fuyutsuki looks at his superior/colleague before turning his attention to the central screen. If Unit-01 didn't go berserker like it was supposed to, what does this mean for them?
"If it's a boy, Shinji. If it's a girl, Rei."
"You can't do this, there's a reason why this research was forbidden 100 years ago!"
"I will create a new world; one where everyone can be truly equal."
"Shinji… Rei…"
"My child… you are…"
Adam gasps for air, eyes shooting open. He groans in pain, feeling a numb sensation all over his body, mostly around his left eye. Forcing himself up, he finds himself in a hospital bed in a hospital gown, in an empty room beside a row of large windows to his left. He takes a deep breath and brings his hand to his head.
"Those memories… I thought I had forgotten about that day…" Adam mumbled. A sigh escapes his lips before lying back down. 'An unfamiliar ceiling… so strange.'
