A few days have passed since I've last made touch, so let me catch you up to speed.
For one thing, I've been able to control my psychic powers considerably more, albeit it's still not perfect. Perhaps because I've been an Espeon for a while now? Not entirely sure why that's a thing.
Secondly, myself and Trixie joined a group on Discord full of other elementals. We've since realized we've had it much better than we realized, and Trixie has now heavily considered evolving as well as a result of a conversation she had with someone in there. She says she thinks either Leafeon or Vaporeon would be best for her, although she can't quite make up her mind which one. I promised her I would help her with it, and I intend to keep my word.
Thirdly, I'm actually on my way up to the station and check in on things right now. It's about time I get back to work, maybe even Chad will have caught the guy who tossed those chemicals on me and I can finally find out what exactly it was.
Despite myself having grown twice in size thanks to my forced evolution, I'm still incredibly short compared to what the front desk was designed for. I use Psychic to lift myself up (slowly as to make sure I don't hit myself on anything) onto where I can speak to the person sitting at the front desk, who hadn't seen me come in.
"Hello there, what can I do for you today?" They say as they notice I'm there. Clearly they don't recognize me and didn't see me using telekinesis, but I don't blame them. I decide using telepathy wouldn't be the best idea as of this moment, so I write on the notepad they offered me.
I actually work here. Officer Parker. I came to get back to work after my accident.
"You don't look like him, let me get his superior officer."
They ring in officer Chad, luckily he was in the building and not on patrol. Soon he walks into the main lobby.
"So you claim to be Parker? While I have a hard time believing that, I'll give you a chance to prove it since we've already seen a lot of change in peoples appearance lately."
Figured he'd have doubts, luckily I know exactly how to prove I am who I say I am. I write on the notepad I was offered earlier and show it to him.
You offered me a job as an officer after I saved my now-girlfriend from a collapsing church. Also, I have a surprise for you.
"Well damn, that certainly proves it, I haven't told anyone that. Mind explaining to me why you're a maroon cat now? And what's this surprise?"
This is when I decide to reveal my psychic powers to him.
"Well clearly my surprise is I now have telepathy, and as for how I'm a maroon cat now is a bit of a big thing to explain."
He jumps as I say the first few words. Naturally it startled him half to death.
"Shit! That certainly is a surprise. Let's go to my desk for you to explain this."
He opens the door he came through and gestures for me to go through. Soon after a bit of a headache trying to explain to him how pokemon in the games/show works (using telepathy for ease and convenience) he understands, or at least somewhat. He shares the same initial worry Trixie did, but I explain that part to him too.
"Well now that I understand that it might be a good idea to log all this "evolution" stuff in a database of sorts so others can quickly refer to it in cases like yours"
His proposal catches me off guard initially, but it does make sense.
"That's a good idea, and at that rate we should probably go off of physical build only, because my "color scheme" as it would be appropriately called is actually nonexistent in the games and shows. I guess freak accidents like mine lead to this kinda thing."
"Fair enough kid. Also, I have a little surprise for you too. Remember the guy that spilled that stuff on you? We caught him and he's in interrogation now. Came in just last night, refuses to say a word to us. Think you could crack him?"
I feel a rush of anger and excitement. I can finally confront the man that did this to me.
"Let's do it."
I enter the room alone, Chad in the room over watching from the security cameras. He figured I'll have more of a chance alone, and thought I should finally get into the mentally hard part of the job, trying to get a suspect to confess despite us knowing he's guilty but not having any actual video, audio, or photographic proof.
"Who the fuck are you? And shouldn't they send in a non-elemental for this?" The scientist says rebelliously.
My psychic abilities will definitely come in handy here, he doesn't know I can communicate telepathically, so I can catch him off guard and he might slip something.
"Communication shouldn't be a problem in the least, and you know damn well who I am."
As I suspected, the telepathy startles him, and he quickly shouts some profanities in surprise. Since my surprise tool is now known, I use Psychic to create a small platform out of extremely condensed air and slowly lift myself onto the table, similar as to how I did in the lobby but in a more safe manner in hindsight.
"Shit, you scared me halfway to hell, gimme a warning or something! And what do you mean I know who you-"
He stops mid sentence, clearly he's figured it out. As to what actually gave it away I'm not sure, as my whole body is completely different visually. Perhaps a certain look in my eye?
"You. You're the one I spilled some compound SC-47 on!"
He quickly realizes the hole he just dug for himself, slamming his fist against the table in anger at himself. I smile with a evil and sinister demeanor in response to this.
"Really, for someone as smart as you that was amazing you fell for that. Now then, while I'm here you might as well tell me what this SC-47 is. After all I'm the victim here." I mockingly pout and pretend to let out a soft cry, just out of spite. For a moment he sits in silence.
"Fine. Since I just admitted to spilling SC-47 on you it's only a matter of time before I'm linked to the grander events anyways, so I might as well tell you everything. SC-47 is a synthetic chemical, like polymer. Unlike all other synthetic chemicals however SC-47 is a recreation of biological chemicals occurring in certain elementals, specifically those showing capabilities for powers involving the mind. At the time I spilled it onto you we were still in the testing phase, so I did not know how exactly it would affect you."
"Psychic type elementals" I correct him. As smart as he is to create a complex compound like SC-47 seemingly from scratch he should at least be terminologically correct.
"Fine, whatever. Our hopes in creating SC-47, among other chemicals we had made, was to try to reverse the effects of the Big Event, or at the very least, try and find some clues as to what caused it."
"Then why resort to stealing equipment and other chemicals?"
He sighs deeply. "We tried doing it in a legal manner, but there was too much chaos for any major funding team to accept our requests. Those that even bothered listening to us simply waved us off, thinking there was more pressing matters at hand, or worried the research would lead to immoral predicaments. The elementals you saw on site were willing participants, and we only took samples of blood, DNA, or any other part of the body that might offer clues. The chemicals we stole were testers, to attempt to detect anything that wouldn't previously be there."
Its at this moment I feel like I'm the bad guy. He and his friends we're trying all they could to do some good and put the world back how it was, and we fucked everything up for them. There's no reason for him to lie about any of this stuff he just said from what I can think of either. For a moment there's an awkward pause.
"Listen... I can't guarantee anything but I can try and have yours and your friends sentences reduced since you were cooperative just now. Your motives may have been just but that does not excuse the fact you stole and were squatting the apartment complex"
He gives a soft nod. "I understand. Thank you."
I leave the room and meet Chad in the hallway. I explain to him all that I told him since the recording obviously wouldn't have what I said on there, and I forgot to let him hear it too.
"You did good kid, we had our best interrogators on him and he wouldn't crack, and you made him crack within 10 seconds of you entering the room! Very clever to use your telepathy to catch him off guard to make him slip. Since he's cooperating now I'm sure he'll help us look for the rest of his friends, especially when I tell him I can give him immunity for confessing. Although the charge for assaulting a police officer won't go away easy unless you decide you don't want us to go after that, what do you think?"
All the resentment and anger against him I had for putting me in a coma that I've been harboring is now gone, guilt taking it's place. I tell Chad no.
"I had a feeling you'd say that. Alright, I'll get to work with figuring out this guy's deal with the court and all the paper work that's needed to be filled out, why don't you go on home? It's getting close to dinner time anyways."
I hadn't even realized how much time had passed, and as I double check the clock, I see it's almost 6 PM! Damn, time really flew, Trixie and all them will be wondering where I am soon.
I tell Chad and everyone I was familiar with I pass good bye, getting looks of surprise and happiness about my new form and the fact I'm up and atem again respectively.
As I exit the main entrance I get a chill down my spine and get the feeling like I'm being watched. My gut feelings are hardly ever wrong, so I check every corner of the place where someone could be hiding to where they can see me, yet I find nothing. Strange.
I head back up to the main entrance to do another visual sweep before I leave, when all of a sudden I hear a voice above me.
"LOOK OUT BELLOW, LOCAL INTERNET STAR COMING IN HOT!"
In my surprise I freeze and the person who seemingly jumped from the roof lands on me, and rather hard at that.
"Hey thanks for cushioning my fall, I bet you're a fan huh mate?" they say excitedly.
The "local internet star" clambers off of me and I can actually see who they are. An Espeon like me, but this one's a girl, seemingly the same age as me based on her voice and overall appearance and demeanor, sporting a small purse that fits her perfectly, which was most likely one of those purses that was intentionally designed really small for humans. She has an accent indicating she's from Australia.
"I don't even fucking know who you are, if you're just starting out I'm afraid I was in a coma for an entire week until just a few days ago, and that fucking hurt!"
"Oh, sorry about that! I guess you're right, I am just starting out, but I'm getting real popular real fast! Glad to meet ya, my name is Vanessa, and I'm sure you could tell from my accent I'm an Aussie! Moved here a few months back. What's your name?"
"The name's Will, do me a favor and don't jump onto me like that again will ya? Hell, don't do that to anyone."
"Come on mate, don't be so stiff! Although I guess you will be in the morning either way huh? Haha!" She gives my shoulder a soft tap.
"Yeah yeah whatever. What are you doing on top of the police station anyways?"
"I'm on the lookout for that guy that lifted that church sky high the other day, made the local news and I heard a rumor the guy worked here so I decided for a stake out so I could get an exclusive interview for my TikTok account. Know the guy? I bet he's one hunk of a man! Or at least whatever pokemon he is now."
Vanessa blushes and gets a daydream look to her eyes, I guess my assumption that my little accident making the news was right, I had actually almost forgotten about it.
"Actually, that'd be me."
Vanessa snaps out of her daydream. "WHAAAAAT THAT WAS YOU?!?! HOW'D YOU GET TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT SO QUICK WITH YOUR SKINNY ASS BODY?!?!"
Her yelling is starting to hurt my ears, damn can she yell.
"Jeez calm down you're gonna blow out my eardrums! It's because of the stuff that put me into the coma I was in. Stuff was loaded with chemicals psychic type pokemon produce naturally that allow them to use their powers I guess, the guy who did it to me explained some although I didn't quite understand everything."
"Ooooh interesting!" she whips out a notepad and pen from her purse using psychic, writing everything that I just said down. "Tell me, were you always an Espeon or did the chemical cause you to evolve? Does the chemicals also have something to do with your strange coloring? Are you holding a grudge against who did it to you or are you thankful in hindsight?"
"Actually that's a yes for the first two! The chemical knocked me out for the week long coma before I evolved but I'm certain that's what caused it. As for any grudges I might have I don't have any, the guy was actually trying to research ways that could potentially reverse the effects of the Great Event, if anything I myself was the bad guy." I pause, uncertain what else to say on the matter. "You certainly seem to be familiar with the move Psychic, although I guess you've had a week's head start on me huh?"
"I guess I did! But I haven't been able to lift much more than a small chair, whereas you lifted a whole damn church! Did the chemical do that too?"
"I would imagine so yeah."
"Hey, notes and shit aside, wanna team up? I got the media outlets and you got the power, together we can go to the moon and back!" Vanessa dramatically grabs hold of me and points to the sky.
"I'm not interested in fame at all actually, I was only testing my powers when I lifted that church." I let out a nervous chuckle. There's nothing I can see that tells me not to trust her, but I got a bad feeling about her nonetheless.
"Not interested in fame? Now that's a bunch of bullshit if I've ever heard it! At least consider it?"
"I'll answer any questions you have to help with your story, but I'm not in it for the personal gain. I want to be able to protect my family, girlfriend, and her family too. That's all I really want." I say as I all but forcibly remove myself from her grip.
Vanessa gets a sinister look in her eye, like when a predator spots its prey.
"Girlfriend eh? Tell me, did you two get together after you evolved or before?"
"Alright now that's a bit personal and I don't want that on the internet. I'll give you my phone number and you can ask me any question you want tomorrow so long as it's specifically me unless I ask someone if it's ok if I talk about them."
"Oh fine, you're no fun."
She hands over her notepad and pencil to write my number on, then I make my way home, careful to make sure Vanessa doesn't follow me. Not only is she annoying but that look she got in her eye pretty damn well confirmed my suspicions not to trust her. No one gets a look like that without wanting to exploit something.
"Mom, Dad, Trixie, I'm back home!" I say with my telepathy, so my parents know it's me.
Trixie bolts in from the other room. "Will! Missed you while you were out babe!" She exclaimed before she gives me a kiss.
"Haha, I missed you too Trixie, I managed to be quite productive today on my first day back as well! Remember the guy who put me into that coma?"
Trixie's face instantly goes to a face full of rage and hatred, understandably so. "Yeah I remember, what about him?"
"Well while I was out Chad and everyone else managed to catch him, held him in interrogation right up to when I got there. I was able to figure out two very important things in just a matter of minutes from him! First, the sludge he hit me with was a synthetic chemical recreacted from chemicals naturally produced by psychic types called SC-47, which explains why my powers as an Espeon are so powerful. Second, him and his buddies were actually trying to find a way to reverse the effects of the Big Event, so in a way he was actually a good guy."
Trixie is startled by my last few words. "You seriously think he was a good guy there? But he could've killed you!"
"Okay yeah he wasn't too proud of himself for doing that, he was panicking and made a bad decision. He did apologize in a way."
Trixie hesitates, being careful to choose her words wisely. "Fine, if you believe him that it was a accident and he didn't mean to hurt you then I believe him too."
"Another thing, ran into this real annoying Espeon girl as I was leaving. She said her name was Vanessa. She just about busted my eardrums twice and broke my spine as she landed on me as she jumped onto the roof."
Trixie let's out an excited gasp. "Vanessa?! Are you talking about the local girl who moved in from Australia and is trying to become world famous?!"
"Wait, you know of her? You sound like you like her, can't see why she was kinda annoying to me."
"Of course I know her! You wouldn't since you don't get on the internet besides Discord much anyways, and she started while you were out of it."
"Yeah, I figured that last part out. Funny thing is she was looking for a certain someone who lifted a whole church..."
Trixie shrieks in excitement like a mother fucking banshee, leaving my ears ringing a little and surprised they're not bleeding. "SHE WAS LOOKING FOR YOU?!?! WHAT'D SHE ASK YOU WHAT'D SHE ASK YOU?!?!"
"Calm down will ya? She was asking me how I got so powerful, and asked if I wanted to team up with her to become super famous. Said that I had the power and she had the mEdIa InFlUeNcE, like I give a damn, I got all I could ever want right here!"
I lean in to kiss Trixie on the forehead, but she pushes back on me, practically shouting at me. "YOU BETTER TEAM UP WITH HER, SHE CAN GET YOU TO PLACES WE'VE ONLY DREAMED OF BEFORE!"
This abrupt change in Trixie's mood startles me. "Babe, I'm perfectly happy staying in our town right here. I don't care for traveling the world right now. If you want me to join her I will, but just so we're clear I don't trust her. I gave her my phone number so she could continue her little interview of me tomorrow, I'm sure we could meet in person somewhere and you could come if you wanted."
Trixie's mood is back to the shrieking banshee now. "YES OF COURSE I WANT TO MEET HER AAAAAAAA!!!"
I swear, sometimes I just don't understand girls, how they can change moods back and forth so quickly? Do they not get exhausted by it?
