A massive tunnel that fluctuates in multiple colors, chaotic but beautiful. This is the Time Vortex: a dimensional plane where time and space meet, intersecting at an angle determined by non-Euclidean geometry. Slowly a figure appears in the middle of the vortex, revealing it to be the Weltall calmly flying through the vortex.

Inside on the other hand…

Console Room

Adam and Toji are seen with fire extinguishers attempting to put the fire out. After Asuka punched the terminal and Adam tried to stop it, it caught fire and everyone started to panic. Rei, the ever cool-headed one, went and got fire extinguishers and gave it to them. After a while, the fire is finally put out and the boys let out a sigh.

"There!" Toji exclaims and throws his fire extinguisher. "It's finally over!"

"Yeah, finally." Adam puts down his fire extinguisher. "Now to check the actual extent of the damage." He goes up to the terminal and opens a hatch revealing the circuitry and wiring underneath.

Meanwhile, Asuka is being scolded by Hikari. "What were you thinking Shikinami!? You could have put us all in danger!"

"I said I was sorry…" Asuka pouted.

Toji scoffs. "It doesn't matter now because we don't even know where this thing is taking us!"

Rei merely observes the exchange in silence. In situations like this, protocol dictates that she should contact Section-02 but that seems impossible since they are all outside of the space-time continuum.

Kensuke is busy looking through the real-time renditions of the outside, completely mesmerized alongside Shinji. "This is so cool, right Ikari!?"

"U-Umu." Shinji nods.

"Well I'm glad you think this is cool because at least now you wouldn't be bored." Everyone turns to Adam as he closes the hatch.

"What do you mean?" Rei asked.

"Whatever Asuka did somehow manage to knock out the navigation system." Adam states.

"So we can't go home?" Toji asked.

Adam gives Toji a look. "Home should be the least of your worries. The whole thing is shot, we can't turn back even if we wanted to!"

"S-so what's going to happen to us?" Shinji stutters.

"You think we'll end up at the beginning of time or, hell, the end of time!?" Toji exclaims.

"In that case, we'll all be destroyed." Adam revealed.

Toji grabs Asuka and begins to shake her violently. "You just couldn't control your temper, couldn't you!? This is all your fault!"

Asuka pushes Toji back and stands up. "Watch it, stooge! This is also your fault too, you know!"

"How!?"

"If I hadn't been spouting that bullshit earlier I wouldn't have lost my cool! You should have kept your mouth shut like the dog you are!" Asuka yells out.

"Why I oughta-"

"ENOUGH!" Everyone turns to Adam. "It doesn't matter whose fault it is! Right now we need to figure out how we can get out of this mess!"

Everyone stands in silence trying to come up with an answer.

"...what if we made a crash landing?" Rei asked.

Adam raises his arms to make an X. "No way, Rei. There are just too many risks."

"What are those risks?" Shinji asks.

Adam looks at Shinji. "One is, obviously, the crash and the other is we don't know where and when we'll end up."

"Well, do you have any better ideas?" Asuka asks but suddenly the room turns red and alarms come to life. "What the hell is that!?"

Adam rushes to a nearby computer. "We're approaching the point of no return, if we don't do something we'll end up in the void!"

"The void?" Hikari asked.

"A place where time and space don't exist; it's basically hell." Adam explains. He rushes to the front most terminal and fiddles with the controls.

"What are you doing?" Shinji asks.

"I am trying to jumpstart the manual override so that I can move this thing." The panels begin to twist and shift revealing two controllers. "Hang onto something!" He moves the controls to the right and as he does the whole ship moves in response.

"What are you doing!?" Asuka yells as she grabs something to hold onto.

"Following Rei's idea!" The ship moves forward. "Hold onto your butts!"

The Weltall accelerates and goes through a wormhole. The screen cracks as the ship exits the vortex and the first thing everyone sees luscious trees everywhere. "WE'RE GOING DOWN!" The Weltall crashes into the forest, creating a huge cloud of dirt in the process. "Is everyone all right?"

The group groans as they slowly get up. "Never... do… that… again."

Adam gives them a sheepish grin.

Kensuke adjusts his glasses. "Where are we?"

Toji helps Hikari up. "It's not 'where are we' dude, it's 'when are we'."

"Oh right." Kensuke said. "When are we?"

"Well navigation is still trashed so I can't really say." Adam goes through the controls. "We'll just have to rely on our eyes to figure it out." He presses a button and the outside is unveiled in its glory.

And it blinks.

"AAAHHH!" The group yells at the sight of the large eye before it backs off and flies away. Everyone sees large creatures walking around, some of them are looking at the ship curiously.

They all look… prehistoric.

"Those are… dinosaurs!" Toji exclaims.

Adam eyes the landscape analytically. "Those are Triceratops, which means that we must be in the-"

"Cretaceous Period." Rei finished.

Everyone looks at Rei shocked. "You know about the Cretaceous Period."

Rei nods. "I have read books about them during my private time."

"I see. Well, we can't exactly stay here so let's get the ship airborne." Adam pulls the controls and as he does the Weltall rises from the ground. He presses a button and stands up. "I'm heading down to the engine room and grab a repair kit to hopefully fix the nav. Don't do anything stupid." He walks towards the door and leaves.

Everyone just stares blankly in silence as the door closes. "Soooooo… what do we do now?"

"How about we go outside?" Toji suggests before he is smacked in the head. "Ouch!"

"Are you crazy, Suzahara!? You want to go outside with a bunch of dinosaurs running around!? Do you want to be eaten!?" Hikari exclaims.

Kensuke pushes up his glasses. "Actually, Triceratops are herbivores so the chances of them eating us is close to none."

"Besides, who would want to eat your smelly butt?" Asuka mocks.

"Screw you Red Devil, I can be tasty!" Toji retorts.

"That's not really something to be proud of.' Everyone deadpans.

"Anyways I'm gonna go outside and you're not gonna stop me!" Toji runs out of the console room.

"Dammit Suzahara, get back here!" Hiraki quickly runs after him.

Kensuke sighs. "I should have known this would happen."

"What do you mean?" Shinji asked.

"Toji's dream has always been to see real dinosaurs. If I recall, he wanted to be a 'Dinosaur King' or something like that." Kensuke explains.

Asuka huffs. "Really? He is such a kid."

"Well we are kids and besides don't tell me you didn't want to see real life dinosaurs when you were little." Kensuke remarks.

"Of course not. Why would I be interested in some million-year-old fossils?" Asuka said and walked away.

"I'm sorry for her." Shinji bows.

"It's fine Ikari. Let's just make sure Toji doesn't do something he'll regret." Shinji nods and the two boys walk out searching for Toji and Hikari, leaving poor Rei by herself.

Just then Adam appears carrying what looks like a briefcase. "Hey guys, I'm b-" He sees that no one is here except for Rei. "Shit,"

Toji is outside marveling at the passing dinosaurs. "So cool…!"

"SUZAHARA!"

Toji turns to see Hikari marching towards him. "Class Rep!?"

Hikari grabs Toji's arm. "We need to head back to the ship right this instant!" She begins to pull. "Do you want to be stuck here forever!?"

"Let me go!" Toji exclaims and notices a familiar redhead walking towards them. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"You know, I'm asking myself that same question." Asuka states. "Playtime's over, stooge. Let's get back."

"Hey!" The two look to see Shinji and Kensuke running towards them with Kensuke recording everything with his camera. "You guys really need to get back on the ship."

"That's what I said." Asuka grumbles.

"C'mon Toji let's-"

*GRRR*

The hair on the back of their neck stands up at the imminent danger. They slowly turn to see a bipedal creature with a massive head balance by a long, heavy tail. It has large and powerful hind limbs; however, its forelimbs are short but unusually powerful for their size, and they have two clawed digits.

"A-A-A Tyrannosaurus!" Kensuke stutters.

The Tyrannosaurus lets out a gust of wind from its nostrils.

"Nobody moves. If we stand perfectly still, it can't see us." Toji states.

"Is that even actually true?" Asuka asked.

The dinosaur slowly opens its mouth, displaying its white fangs to everyone and begins to approach them.

"No…?"

"▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!" (AN: Think of Jurassic Park for this one)

"AAHHHHH!" The group runs away and the T-Rex gives chase, its hind legs stumping with every step. They head towards the forest and hide among the rocks. The carnivorous dinosaur looks around for a while, trying to locate its prey.

"Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god."

"Shhh! Do you want that thing to hear you, idiot!?" Asuka whispers.

The Tyrannosaurus walks towards their hiding spot, its head just barely reaching their head. The group hold their breath with anticipation as the dinosaur breathes down on them. Its head moves back and then they hear loud footsteps growing weaker and weaker.

"Is it gone?" Toji asks.

Shinji takes the initiative and looks up to see nothing but the trees. "Yeah, it looks like it left."

"Oh thank God." Toji leans back and sighs in relief.

Kensuke stands up. "We should get out of here before that oversized lizard comes back."

The group of five leave their hiding place and walk through the forest, but then they realize something…

"Guys," Shinji began. "Where is the ship?"

Asuka huffs in frustration. "Obviously, it's in the skyyyyy." Her words trail off as she realizes that the Weltall is no longer hanging in the sky. "Oh."

"Oh no." Kensuke said. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! This can't be happening!" He fidgets in fear. "We can't be lost, we can't!"

"Calm down, Kensuke." Toji said.

"Don't fucking tell me to calm down!" Kensuke barked. "We don't know where we are and there's a freaking dinosaur hunting us down!" His voice gains more volume. "You always do this! You never listen to anyone and it has to be either me or Hikari who has to get you out of trouble! I mean do you realize how ridiculous this is!? We're lost in the Cretaceous Period and our only ticket out is gone, and you're still acting like a tough guy!"

"Kensuke-"

"Just stop it, okay? Nobody likes that attitude of yours!" Kensuke told him. "If you want to be helpful, then don't try to annoy everyone you meet." Kensuke marches off and eventually the others follow suit. Hikari looks at Toji before walking away, leaving a stunned Toji alone.

"Shit…" Toji follows them in a steady pace, trying to process his best friend's words.

The group is walking through the forest as a series of large insects fly in the background.

"Damn, Number 2 I didn't know you had it in you." Asuka remarked.

"Me neither, and my name is Kensuke." Kensuke said.

"Are you sure he'll be alright?" Shinji turns to see Toji keeping his distance.

"He'll be fine Third, besides it was time someone gave him a reality check." Asuka said.

Shinji glances at the slump form of the jock, slowly keeping pace with everyone, but then hears something. "Um, guys? Did you hear something?"

"Hear what, Third?" Asuka asked.

"It kind of sounds like-" He stops as the sound gets louder. They all turn to see something closing in on them. It wasn't as tall as a Tyrannosaurus and has no armor to speak of, however what stands out is its three-toed feet. It has what can be considered an early stage of a horny beak.

"What is that!?" Hikari yells.

"That's an Ornithopod! It's considered to be one of the most successful groups of herbivores in the Cretaceous world due to their major evolutionary advantage of being able to chew hard food, they dominated the North American landscape!" Kensuke explains. "But why is this one coming for us!?"

"Who cares, run!" The group dashes away and the dinosaur - an Ornithopod - gives chase. They ran as fast as their legs could take them, not caring where they were heading. Eventually, they see a ray of light and leave the forest but the dinosaur is still on their tail. "It's still after us!?"

"Can this day get any worse!?" Shinji cries out.

As soon as he says that, a massive blur suddenly appears and tackles the Ornithopod, pinning it to the ground. They wrestle but with a single horrifying sound the herbivore's body goes limp and the large creature begins to devour it. It doesn't take the group long to realize it was Tyrannosaurus who was chasing them before, now back and eating its prey.

"You just had to jinx it, didn't you Baka-Shinji!?" Asuka exclaims.

"I-I'm sorry!" Shinji said.

"Will you both be quiet already!? I swear you two act like an old married couple!" Hikari states.

The two EVA pilots blush at the implication. "We're not a couple!"

Their shriek catches the attention of the carnivore, who begins to turn around. Its face is bloodied with pieces of flesh still on it, its bare fangs out in the open. It terrifies the teenagers. "▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!" The Tyrannosaurus charges forward, but something stops it from moving forward. It tries again but is unable to get through the wall.

"You guys seriously couldn't stay in one place for 5 minutes!?"

They all look up to see the Weltall flying above them. In that instant, a cone of light comes down and from within Adam appears looking less than pleased. "I told you guys not to do anything stupid, and what do you do? You go out and explore uncharted territory filled with prehistoric animals that are three times your size!"

The group looks down in shame. "We're-"

"It's my fault."

Everyone turns to Toji. "It was my idea to go outside. I wanted to see the dinosaurs up close and personal, but I gave everyone so much trouble that we were almost eaten by a T-Rex." Toji's shoulders slump further. "I always try to act tough and cool, but I never realized I was giving my friends a hard time because of it." He bows. "I'm sorry."

Everyone stares at the tracksuit-wearing jock until Kensuke approaches him. He wraps his arm around his neck and smirks. "It's fine, dude. I know you didn't mean it and it's not like we're gonna stop being friends with you."

"I might- OW!" Asuka groans as she is elbowed by Shinji.

Hikari walks towards Toji and places her hand on his shoulder. "Toji…" She smiles and causes Toji to blush.

The sound of alarms causes everyone to jump and frantically look up. Adam raises his wristwatch, "Rei, what's wrong?"

"A series of objects are entering the atmosphere and are descending at incredible speeds."

The group turns to the sky and sees red dots falling from the sky. The Tyrannosaurus stumps around and rushes off as well as several other dinosaurs in the area.

"Those are meteors… but that means-"

"We need to get out of here, now!" Adam cries out as the sky turns a fiery red. "Beam us up!" The group is teleported back into the console room as they all take their seats. Shinji, Toji and Kensuke are sitting on the right side while Asuka and Rei are on the left. Hikari is sitting at the front where the pilot controls are stationed and Adam sits on the command console.

They all can see the meteors crashing to the earth, destroying everything surrounding them. The dinosaurs that got caught in its radius were set ablaze or even vaporized while rest ran as fast as they could but to no avail.

It truly was the end of the world.

"Oh my god…" Hikari whispers, mortified by sight.

"Get this tin can out of here so that we don't become extinct along with the dinosaurs!" Asuka yells out.

Rei turns to Asuka. "The navigation system is still non functional. If we jump now there will be no telling where and when we will end up."

"JUST GET THIS THING GOING NOW!" Asuka slams her fist on the terminal and it comes to life. The Weltall launches and passes through the wormhole just as more meteors continue falling from the sky.

It was the end of the age of the dinosaurs.

The Weltall surfs through the tunnel as its crew breathe a sigh of relief. "We got away."

Hikari frowns. "But those dinosaurs…"

"There was nothing we could have done." Adam tells her. "The dinosaurs were meant to go extinct. If we tried to alter it, it would result in disastrous consequences."

"Right." Hikari said but wasn't over it. She then sees something strange outside. "Huh?"

The group all turn their attention to the outside and see something that shouldn't be possible.

Author Notes

Here it is. I thought it would be an interesting start if the group ended up in the prehistoric era and just how they would react at the fact that they've actually travelled through time. It'll be much different from the original that's for sure.

Also, I lost my keys today and it turns out there are holes in my pant pockets. Good thing there was someone home.
