Number Eight, Fiona

Fiona, Jonas, and Asher. Some Elevens, are all the same, yet completely different. They all are at the Ceremony of Twelves awaiting their assignments.

Fiona, a female eleven, received a new child brother, Bruno. She'd had been waiting for this day for a while. She knew that she'd be receiving a brother since each family unit had a female and male child. That's how it was in family units there was a mother, a father, a male child, and a female child. With Fiona being an Eleven, almost a Twelve, and receiving a new child brother was rare. The Committee of Elders usually didn't have such a large gap between two children in a family unit.

Fiona was number eighteen. Each child, in each age group, received a number. Fiona was number eighteen because she was the eighteenth born that year. She sat next to number nineteen, Jonas, during the Ceremony of Twelves. When she was called up for her assignment, she was assigned to be a caretaker at the House of Old. She enjoyed her volunteer hours she spent there. She also had many qualities need to do this assignment, such as, being gentle, polite, kind, and calm. Then after Fiona thanked for her childhood, number twenty, Pierre, was called up instead of Jonas.

This confused Fiona. She knew that the Chief Elder did not make a mistake and nor did Jonas. So she wondered why had Jonas been skipped.

The Chief Elder apologized to the Community for causing every one anxiety. She then told them that Jonas had not been assigned, but he had been "Selected."

This raised many questions in Fiona's head. Like what had Jonas been selected for? She knew these questions were the same questions that Jonas had.

The Chief Elder told Jonas, as well as the whole Community, that Jonas had been selected to be the next Receiver of Memories. This was a great honor. In fact the greatest honor, or so she was told. She didn't really understand what this assignment was, but she knew not to think differently about it.

After the Ceremony, Fiona observed her assignment folder, which told her to report to the House of Old after school hours. She was excited and nervous at the same time about her assignment. She didn't quiet know why she was nervous about being assigned to work at the House of Old, she had done it so many times before.

She along with all the other new Twelves, were pretty much adults. They'd be starting their assignments soon. But then a new questions rose in Fiona's head: would she still be friends with the other children from group of Elevens. Her Father and Mother had told her that she wouldn't see her old group mates as much, but she'd make new friends with the people that had the same assignment as her, because they'd all share the same like for what they did.

This was a project for school and I decided on putting it on fan fiction
