Berlin, 12:49 AM
Efram: Everyone set?
Karl: Ready
Eren: I'm ready
Hermann: Let's send it
Efram: Alright, time to pay Satan a visit
As Efram unlocks the door, the survivors continue their journey to the cathedral. Along the way, they come across a pile of dead Soviets on the ground inside the building
Boris: Chyort, guess they never made the full retreat
Hermann: Not sure if they're the same Ivans back there but either way, tough luck for them
Efram: Everyone, on your feet, I can see the cathedral from here
Jean, meanwhile, finds a PPSH-41 on the ground, alongside a dead Soviet. Wanting to try new things out, he swapped out his MP40 for the Russian SMG
Jean: This might work out
As Jean grabs more ammunition from the dead body, Hermann comes back
Hermann: Oi, Efram saved you once, and I'm not saving you twice
Jean: Relax, I just wanted to try a new gun
Hermann: Hurry up!
The survivors find themselves on the streets but up ahead is the unholy structure itself: The Memorial Cathedral
Karl: That's the place?
Efram: Jawohl, at its glory
Mina: That is huge
Marco: That thing's bigger than the church back at the Walls
Eren: So, we just get inside there?
Karl: Yes, then we find out what started all of this mess. By "we", I mean Efram, since he's the occult guy here
Efram: Yes, whatever, now let's get moving while we have the opportunity
A scream of gore immediately echoed the streets
Hermann: Well, now we're fucked to shit
Meanwhile, a green mist spewed atop of one of the buildings. It looks like a German sniper but a bit "different", the most notable appearance it possesses is some sort of gas mask and glowing eyes with a greenish hue, but the thing takes his Kar98k and starts shooting at the survivors, causing them to panic and hide
Eren: I got it!
Before Eren could line up the proper shot, the undead sniper quickly launched upwards into the dark sky with a green trail of smoke following beside it, until it landed into another spot. The kid could not believe what just happened and his eyes were full of shock
Eren: Wh- How?
Efram: Flying zombies, just what God intended
Karl: Just lay low
The supernatural sharpshooter continues to stalk the survivors even more, jumping through several buildings in a taunting manner, laughing while its targets cower in fear. Karl had enough, so when he leaped out of cover, he aims at the undead sniper, who also aims at Karl. A shot fired, and silence followed. A loud thud was heard as the undead sniper fell splat into the ground, with a chunk of its head missing
Boris: So, flying sniper zombies a thing now?
Karl: I suppose
Efram: We're not even inside the cathedral and now we're already witnessing new things come into play
Hermann: Whatever's inside that damn church, it better be worth our time
OST: Zombie Army Trilogy OST – City of Ashes 2
More hell breaks loose as the city's corrupted population pops out of the ruined buildings through the windows and doorways. A variety of civilian, Wehrmacht, and Soviet zombies litter the streets and surround the survivors
Karl: Looks like we'll have to shoot our way in
Marco: Always has been
The survivors quickly fight back at the zombies, Karl nailing every headshot he could muster and Efram shooting the zombies that are trying to flank them from behind. Amidst the chaos, Jean is struggling to use the PPSH he picked up earlier
Jean: Does this? No, wh- how? Hey! Can anyone help me out here?
Despite Jean's plead for assistance, no one seemed to bother. On the other hand, Boris shoulder tackles a zombie into the ground and pummeling its face with the Russian's boot until it turned into a bloody and meaty mush. When Jean finally loaded the magazine on his SMG, he quickly rushed into battle and spotted three zombies in front. He aimed his gun but unlike his previous gun, the recoil was too much, the fast fire rate of the PPSH caused the cadet to lose control and blind fire everywhere. This caused Boris to drop to the ground to avoid the rounds but a zombie pinned him down. With one hand held firmly into the zombie's neck and pushing its teeth away from his face, Boris desperately reaching for his gun but the zombie's appetite was slowly overwhelming the tough Russian. When fate was about to eliminate Boris, Jean ran and landed a punt kick on the zombie's temple and this enabled Boris to reach for his gun and fire a short burst of rounds on the zombie and killing it. Despite saving his life at the process, Boris is still unimpressed as evidenced by when Jean tries to reach for Boris' hand, the Russians refused and picked himself up the ground instead
Jean: Hey, I saved your life back there
The survivors eradicate the last few zombies and regroup
Karl: Everything clear?
Eren: We're good
Efram: Still in
Karl: Check your ammo, these guys will be back for more
After checking their inventory of ammo, the survivors hurriedly proceed to the cathedral. Meanwhile, Jean is still bothered by the fact that Boris was ungrateful for his actions earlier
Jean: *whispers* Hey, keep in mind that if I haven't reacted in time, you wouldn't be here right now
Boris: Uh-huh
Jean: *whispers* Fine, if that's how you're going to act to me and the others, don't expect me playing as your guardian angel again
Boris: Okay
Jean: Oh, you-
When Jean was about to swing at Boris, the Russian immediately has his Tokarev pointed at the cadet's abdomen
Boris: Anymore words, da?
Jean's eyes were filled with both anguish and fear as Boris pushes his pistol even deeper into Jean's stomach
Hermann: The kid's right, Boris. You should've thanked him for saving your life back there
Boris: Oh, you're on his side now
Hermann: You've already tried to kill Marco, and now you're after Jean as well?
Much to the Russian's chagrin, he let go off of Jean
Jean: Thanks
Hermann: No need, he's always that stubborn, pretty much all of the Russians I've fought against
A loud scream and the cathedral's doors suddenly bust open, and the living dead come out, including the cathedral's priests, whose prayers for God did not save them from this madness
Efram: Oh scheisse
Karl: Hermann, you still got any grenades there?
Hermann: With pleasure, mein kommandant
Hermann pulls out one of his stick grenades and steps up front. He pulls its string downwards, wait for three seconds, and threw it at the zombie crowd. Three more seconds and it finally exploded and leaving all of the zombies into one huge bloody mess, with dismembered limbs flying all over
Hermann: Exciting
After the mess, the survivors finally get inside the cathedral, as they shut the main doors behind them. They are shocked to see the interior of the cathedral, from walls with visible cracks to holes in the roof to old crates of supplies abandoned by the German troops. This structure was immensely huge despite the horrifying decorations applied to it by the outbreak
Marco: This place is huge
Mina: I know it's big but, I have no idea it was going to be this gigantic
Jean: By the way, there's a dead body in one of the church seats and a rat is chewing on its fingers
Mina and Marco looked at Jean with an awkward face
Jean: Uhh, just letting you know
While the survivors are searching around the cathedral for clues regarding the retched apocalypse, Eren comes across one of the Wehrmacht crates left behind. Tempted, he opens one of the crates by using his Kar98k as a makeshift crowbar to pry open the wooden lid and inside are two STG-44s and eight full magazines. Eren picks up one of the rifles and slowly examines it by just looking at it, pulling the bolt, and trying to practice proper aim with it
Karl: Sturmgewehr, not a bad choice
Eren: Well, umm. I wanted to choose something else rather than the old rifle you gave me
Karl: You know how to use that?
Eren: I mean, I've seen the guy with the hat and coat use this thing
Karl: Oh, Hermann? You wanna take lessons from him or what?
Eren; I'll probably just copy how he does it
Karl: Alright, I'll have to warn you that the recoil can be a bit "punchy". Considering what happened to your friend back there when he used Boris' gun
Eren: I'll keep that in mind
Karl: You'll learn eventually, so good luck with your new gun
Karl pats Eren's shoulder before moving on. Meanwhile, Efram approaches the cathedral's altar and finds a dead SS General laid down on the altar itself, with a knife stuck deep in its heart and an occult book in its right hand
Marco: What happened here?
Efram: Some sort of ritual, I suppose, and not a pretty one
Marco: Does that have to do with what's happening down here?
Efram: Well, I've heard rumors that the Fuhrer wanted to use occult rituals and spells as some sort of last-ditch effort to fend off the Allies away from Berlin. So, to answer your question, yes. This "thing" here is only half of it though
Marco notices the book the corpse is holding
Marco: There's a book the corpse is holding, should I grab it?
Efram: I don't know, I mean. The person's dead, so might as well take it while we can
Marco: The corpse looks human to me, so I think this ritual thing just happened earlier, don't you think?
Efram: Who knows, either way, let's see what this poor bastard tried to pull off
Efram went closer to the altar and grabs the occult book, while dastardly trying to get the corpse's lifeless arm away from him
Efram: Let's see what we have here
Efram opens the book and starts reading the text. Though some of the book's contents remain unidentified, all is known is the fact most of the texts are written in Latin language
Efram: Most of this are in Latin, I can translate most of this, but I can't put a finger on what's with these texts
Marco: Does it help us?
Efram; Hang on, give me a second to process this
Efram continues to analyze the book even more but simply could not understand what was written, he has simply no idea how to construct this altogether
Marco: So, what's supposed to be in there?
Efram: I, uh-
Efram finally gives up and admits he didn't understand a thing in the book
Efram: That was shit, completely shit
Marco: I thought you were the guy that was supposed to handle this
Efram: Yes, it's just, it's full of Latin gibberish and things, also poorly written
Marco: But you could understand those type of things, right
Efram: It's just-
While the two are having an argument over the incomprehensive book, the corpse suddenly starts twitching and, slowly, uses his hands to reach for the stuck knife. It gets a firm grip on the knife's handle and starts pulling it out, while letting out a faint groan, which the two immediately noticed
Marco: What the hell?
Efram: Scheisse
Before Efram could reach for his Webley, the living corpse has completely pulled the knife off of its chest, which caused an explosion of occult energy, and its blast sending Marco and Efram into a pile of pews. The corpse starts levitating off the altar and has transformed into something more sinister, as glowing occult magic surrounds it and its body left into nothing but skeleton
Occult General: Arise!
OST: Zombie Army Trilogy OST – The Occult General
Jean: Marco!
Hermann: What the hell is that?
Karl: Shoot the damn thing! Now!
All of the survivors unaffected by the blast earlier started shooting at the unholy figure but it absorbed the bullets and was deemed unscathed by it, as it started to maniacally laugh at the survivors' puny attempts
Occult General: Join us!
The Occult General, using its supernatural abilities, has risen dozens of zombies on behalf of its command
Karl: Hit 'em, hit 'em!
Eren: What is that?
Boris: Screw that question, just kill it!
As the survivors desperately try to annihilate the unholy general, Efram regains his consciousness after that explosion and sees an unconscious Marco beside him. Efram started to see what was going on and tries to wake up Marco from it
Efram: Wake up, wake up! Scheisse
Efram couldn't wake up Marco, despite yelling for his name several times. He tries to check for a pulse but nothing comes up
Efram: Forgive me
Efram finally gave up and instead, landed a punch on Marco's chest. It proved effective and Marco was wide awake
Marco: *coughing* Wha- wh- what?
Efram: Get up, come on!
Jean: How do we kill this damn thing?
Karl: Where the hell's Efram?
Efram: I'm here!
Boris: Care to explain what bastard is this?
While the zombies continue to pile up, Efram notices some details. He sees three floating skulls surrounding the general and when it's being shot at by other survivors, the general simply brushes it off. He thinks that the floating skulls act some sort of protective barrier for the occult general, so he grabs his Gewehr and starts aiming for the skulls. He managed to destroy all three of them, and leaves the general vulnerable to any attacks. Before it could recover, Efram quickly reloaded his rifle and spent the entire magazine, sending all of the rounds into the general's face. This caused the general to groan in agony, which all of the survivors noticed
Efram: You aim for the skulls. Without it, the bastard will have nothing to protect himself
After the survivors take Efram's word of advice, the general recovered, this time having four skulls around it instead of three. The general summons more zombies to aid in the battle
Karl: Eren, you and your friends deal with the horde. We'll take on the general ourselves
Eren: Right!
Jean: Marco: you still remember me?
Marco: Yeah? Why?
Jean: Just making sure you didn't lose your head after that bit
Marco: Whatever, I'm fine
Efram: We should take the ledge above us, it'll give us a better aim on the general
Karl: Alright, you take point
The cadets get busy on killing all of the zombies in front while the veterans rush to the next floor above. They reach themselves into the ledge, Efram's intended vantage point
Efram: First, we must destroy the skulls, then we throw everything at that thing, yes?
Hermann: Whatever you say
Karl: Let's get to it
After the veterans reload their weapons, under the instructions of Efram, they started targeting the occult general's skulls. Karl destroys two, while Boris gets the third and Hermann the last skull, the plan worked and the general was left without any form of protection. Efram took advantage and opened fire, targeting the general's head. After successive shots, the general once again cried in pain and anger
Occult general: Damn you all, DAMN YOU ALL!
The Occult General has summoned more zombies and has recovered with six more skulls protecting him. The zombies now are in even bigger numbers than before
Jean: Hey! It's those huge things with the guns
Eren: Just keep them off of Karl
The cadets fend off the zombie wave as much as they can while the veterans maintain ground and snipe off the general. Karl destroys three skulls and Hermann gets two
Karl: Last skull, make it count
Karl loads in a new round on his rifle, he scopes in on the final skull, making sure to time the shot and speed precisely. He squeezes the trigger and the round lands dead on the skull, leaving the occult general weakened for the third time
Karl: Quick! Hit it with everything you've got!
When the veterans were about to land a fatal blow to the general, one of the heavy gunner zombies opened fire at the group, causing the veterans to stumble and Karl dropping his rifle to the ground
Karl: Damn it
While the general is in its weakened state, Efram shouted at the cadets to finish the job now
Efram: Quick! Shoot its head now!
Eren: I got it
Using his STG-44, Eren fired as many shots as he could control, nailing most of it on the general's head. Efram pulls out his Webley and he too started opening fire on the vulnerable general. After far too many damage sustained, the general has finally been broken and screamed in so much excruciating pain, that its voice sounded human-like. Regardless, all of the zombies in the cathedral died suddenly and the general is slowly being dragged into the ground by an unknown force, almost as if it was being dragged into Hell. Before it could be completely sent into the underworld, the general uttered its last words before damnation
Occult General: NO! CURSE YOU ALL!
The Occult General has been banished into the civilizations of Hell and the survivors once again lived through another hour of judgment
Efram: You children okay?
Eren: Yes, we're good here
Jean: What just happened?
Mina: I have no clue, but I'm glad we're still alive
After the survivors recover from that battle, Efram tries to come up with their next plan
Karl: So, care to explain what's our next move?
Efram: Well, one thing that we can be certain on, is the fact these demonic things now apparently have a commander that can lead them in battle
Karl: Zombie generals, those are definitely eye candy for us
Marco: So, have we got the thing that we're looking for?
Efram: Well, there should be more than this. I think our best option sadly is if we keep going further into the city, we're the only fighting force left in Berlin, so now's the chance to find a way to get rid of the undead bastards
Jean: Wait, you want us to keep going in this hell just because of your "research"?
Efram: If we just surrender ourselves to the Allies, what if the zombies somehow break out of Germany. And none of us know how we can permanently eradicate the threat. Even if the Americans, or the British, or even the Soviets have millions of bombs, it's still not viable enough to wipe out the dead and save Germany. I know it sounds nonsense to you but trust me, it'll take more than guns and bombs to destroy an evil force of this magnitude
Karl: You know, it sounds gibberish to me, but I guess he's right. The Allies have no idea what's waiting for them and we're the only ones who can put a stop to this
Boris: Hey, before you turn this into an opera play, I found something here
The survivors approach Boris near the altar and find a manhole, which must've been concealed under the altar before
Boris: Ladies first
Jean and Marco teasingly look at Mina
Mina: I'm not going down there
Efram: I suppose this is our best option
Karl: Right
Hermann: So we're going in?
Karl: If it's all we've got, I guess this is it
Efram: Alright, let's go
The survivors enter in the manhole and drop down below, hoping to navigate through the underground system and find salvation in this destruction
