It was a very typical night of Chrono and Tokoha usual tutoring sessions. Today, they went back to their roots of the first reason why Tokoha began tutoring Chrono, teaching him English. It had evolved into teaching him other subjects since he was struggling in certain topics and it was going pretty well. They haven't practiced in a while, so they thought why not practice a bit of English.
[How are you doing, Chrono?]
[I'm doing great Tokoha, thank you for asking.]
Chrono was really proud of himself, he was at least able to have a casual conversation with someone else, but to Tokoha, he still had a good way to go. They've been using an English textbook which they've been reading off of to help him with his conversational skills. So far, so good. They just finished one of the pages and they were on to the next.
'Hm, questioning and answering, doesn't seem too hard," Tokoha thought to herself as she reads ahead.
Chrono meanwhile reads the textbook in front of him, attempting to understand the topic. He was amazed the he is actually learning another language. All thanks to Tokoha, of course. Without her, he would never be able to be this fluent this fast.
His eyes wandered to the computer screen, currently with the green haired girl on it. She's wearing her glasses, something that he only began seeing once they began their tutoring sessions, the only reason why was because she wanted to better fit into the role of "teacher". Not that he was complaining, it looks really cute on her. He could watch her all day with them on and never get tired of them. Thank goodness for tutoring!
Just as Tokoha raised her head from the book, Chrono immediately looked back down to his textbook, hoping that she didn't see him staring (she didn't).
"Alright, so I'll start and you follow after me…" she explained. After a while, it was going well, but Chrono was getting bored. Not that it was Tokoha's fault that it was boring, if anything her cuteness in glasses was the only thing keeping him from dozing off.
"Chrono, are you getting bored?" Tokoha grumbled, knowing him all too well.
The moment that question slipped out of her mouth, he looked like a deer in headlights. "Heh.. what are you talking about…?"
"It looks like your mind is somewhere else…?" She looked so disappointed.
"Oh, it's nothing honest, I'm just thinking about something. Not worth mentioning." He was thinking about something, though it would be the last thing he would want her to know.
"But is it worth enough to think about it in our tutoring session?"
"Eh, really, it's nothing!" He was sweating bullets at this point. Come just change the subject. "How about we just move to the next section?"
Reluctantly, Tokoha agreed and turned the page with him, both instantly regretting their decision. On the next page, in bold pink letters, reads "Romantic Interactions". In it read lines of want (presumably) would say to each other. Normally by themselves it's no problem whatsoever. But with how they've been practicing, they don't want to even think about it.
To Chrono, even though he didn't want to do this, he saw no way out of it. She'll probably think it would be too suspicious to why he wouldn't do it. She'll think he likes her. [A/n: absolutely true] There's no way he can let that happen! [A/n: he's thinking way too hard about it]
On the other hand, Tokoha was wrestling with her feelings. Why would it matter so much? They can both go through this no problem, no romantic feelings here. [A/n: she's lying to herself]
"Alright let's go through this," she said blushing. Defeatedly, Chrono followed.
[I like you.] Chrono started. He could feel his heart wanting to crawl out of his chest.
Tokoha meanwhile is suppressing a smile.
[I like you too.]
[You looked cute today.]
"Do I?" She thought.
[Thank you! You look cute too.]
[You look so pretty.]
She could feel the heat in her cheeks and ears. [T-thank you! I appreciate you!]
He notices how she blushed at the compliment and couldn't help, but smirk, annoying Tokoha.
She looks at the next line and decides to read next. "So let's see how you like it!"
[You look so handsome today.]
Chrono could hardly suppress the smile on his face, not everyday that he gets a compliment.
"Did he really like that?!" She pouted.
[Thank you! I appreciate you.]
They both looked at the next line and they both had a full stop, at this point they were questioning why this section was even in a textbook. Chrono didn't know what came over him, but he decided to read the next line.
[I love you.] He said with all his sincerity. He then blushed when he realized what he had done and he looked down to his book. There's no way he gave away his feelings with that, right?
A couple of seconds passed in silence, he wonders he hadn't why she hadn't said anything. He gathers his courage and looks back to the screen, only to find Tokoha in a blushing mess, cupping her cheeks with her hand as a failing attempt to hide her red face. Did he cause that?
Tokoha couldn't get what he said to her out of her mind. It repeated over and over again, each time getting louder and more intense. It's not even what he said, but how he said it. Like he actually meant it. But there's no way, he couldn't possibly like her like that.
[I-I uh…] She can't even say it back. It's a phrase only four words long and yet she can't say anything. She doesn't have any feelings like THAT though. No way, no way, no way no way, no way, no way, no way, no way, no way, no way!
She slams the book shut looking almost hysteric. "Hahaha! I think it's time we call it a night, huh?! Seems like a good enough time to finish, right?!"
"Haha! Absolutely!" He does the exact same thing. "Yelp, time to hit the hay, I guess!"
"Goodnight!"
"Goodnight!"
They end the call, both taking in what just happened.
Chrono slammed his head on the table with a loud thud. "I fucked up, didn't I?"
Tokoha in her room gets up from her chair, lays face up in her bed, grabs her blanket, rolls up in a burrito blanket, then she screams into her cushion. "I just needed to say it!"
