Kakashi tilted his head as Satoru made an annoyed face. "You're Fushiguro Megumi, right?"
Kakashi took in the little tike's bored expression, but sharp gaze. Yup. This was definitely Toji's kid. How…strange. It was like looking at a carbon copy. He thought back to Naruto and scratched at the back of his head. Genetics were an interesting thing.
"Who're you? And why are you looking at me like that?" The kid questioned. Kakashi glanced at his brother and he couldn't blame the kid. Satoru was making quite the expression.
"It's just you look exactly like him." That just seemed to confuse the kid more. Kakashi chuckled uneasily.
"Sorry. We're talking about your father." Kakashi scratched the back of his head with a smile. "I suppose you don't realize that you belong to a sorcerer family? A pretty influential one. The Zenin clan." Kakashi wanted to start off small. No need to overwhelm the kid. However, Satoru had other plans.
"Ah even if he did know that doesn't mean his dad isn't a loser. I mean seriously, he dumped you and the clan. Pretty pathetic if you ask me." Satoru spoke up, making Kakashi pinch the bridge of his nose. Ah yes. Satoru's infamous lack of tact.
"Anyways you got powers and you can see them, right?" Satoru leaned forward the slightest bit. "I bet you already have manifested your technique."
Kakashi stuck his hands in his pockets and studied the boy's lackadaisical posture. Kakashi would bet that the boy could care less. He snorted as Satoru went on about the Zenin clan and how it was pretty greedy. Unfortunately Kakashi couldn't refute the claims. Most of the clans were power hungry monsters. If anyone would want proof they could look at Satoru and Kakashi's poor childhood. If they could even call it that.
"Sucks, doesn't it." Kakashi watched as Satoru crouched. "Your dad. I ki-"
"What does it matter?" The boy cut off Satoru, surprising the twins. "I don't care what he does or where he is. I haven't seen him in years. I don't even remember what he looks like."
Kakashi looked away, "Well just look in the mirror, kid." But he kept that thought to himself.
"Tsumiki's mom hasn't been here either. That means they're done taking care of us. They're living happily." Kakashi raised an eyebrow at the assumption. This kid was…on the stranger side. Not that he was one to talk. He remembered the clan always saying that he and Satoru were strange. Even when he was a Hatake, Kakashi was seen as weird.
"Are you sure you're a first grader?" Satoru tilted his head with an exasperated tone. Kakashi snorted at that response.
"You have a choice, Fushiguro." Kakashi cut in deciding Megumi was probably weirded out by Satoru. Which was a fair judgment call. "The Zenin clan will most likely love to take you in. But you'll be living by their rules and their motivations for you."
Fushiguro looked away. "Would Tsumiki be taken care of with them?"
Kakashi's gaze softened. As much as this kid tried to play it cool, he cared. "I'm afraid I couldn't answer that. But I can't say I have high hopes." Kakashi admitted. Satoru glanced up at his younger brother. Kakashi was always so kind and understanding. Even to a boy he had just met. No wonder everyone asked how they were related. Even Satoru questioned their relation on occasion.
What Satoru didn't know was that Kakashi saw a little of himself in Megumi. The lazy posture. The carefree and nonchalant attitude. And maybe a little of another black haired boy that seemed too mature for his age.
"Don't worry about it." Satoru stood up and ruffled Fushiguro's black locks. "We'll take care of it."
Kakashi sighed and ruffled his own messy hair with a bored look on his face, "Take care until we see you again, Fushiguro." Kakashi smiled and waved. Kakashi and Satoru would make sure that Fushiguro stayed out of the Zenin's clutches. Fushiguro didn't deserve to be thrown to the wolves.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow as he poked his head in from the kitchen. "You want to teach?" If Satoru wasn't telling Kakashi his ingenious plan he would have been whining about dinner taking too long. He could smell the katsudon from the living room. Not to mention the sweet smell of dango. Kakashi truly was blessed in the culinary arts. Satoru wanted to cry with gratitude to every deity on the planet for a chef in the form of his brother.
"Think about it!" Satoru said with excitement in his hopping form. Kakashi was reminded of a bunny as he watched his brother bounce. Kakashi was still leaning backwards with impressive balance as he looked at his brother from around the corner. "The old fools at the top! If I get rid of them what will happen?"
Kakashi sighed and looked up at the ceiling. He and Satoru were in casual wear. Kakashi wore a warm cream sweater with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black jeans, and white socks. Satoru was wearing a blue long sleeve, black sweats, and his bare feet.
Kakashi thought back to his past life. He had wondered himself what would happen if he would just bite the bullet and kill Danzo. He would be doing the world a favor, but it wasn't the right way to go about it. His own lackeys would simply retaliate or put someone even worse in his place.
"They'd just be replaced. What's your point?" Kakashi tilted his head. His hair moved at the gentle motion.
"The answer is to not start from the top down, but rather the bottom up! If I can raise up allies in this new generation then we can enforce change as a unit! It'll be a healthy new beginning!" Satoru said with vigor as he continued to bounce on the balls of his feet.
Kakashi hummed, "that isn't a bad idea." In fact it was a great one. It is what Konoha shinobi called passing on the will of fire. Teachers would pass on ambitions and dreams. Ideals and hopes. The next generation would then carry on those dreams to give hope to the generation after them. It was one of the reasons why the Hokages all have had a similar dream for Konoha. From teacher to student.
"Right?! Your nii-san is a genius!" Satoru tapped his forehead with a forefinger. He waited anxiously for Kakashi's reply. While he was a genius, Kakashi was the tactician. The strategist. He read people and found weaknesses that Satoru would eventually find, but Kakashi did it so effortlessly. It was like he was bred for espionage. With this in mind he had hoped Kakashi would agree with him.
Kakashi snorted and placed the Katsudon on a serving plate. "That is true, but do promise me that you'll have the kids' best interests in mind. Not just as a means to an end. Because trust me there is a lot there we could exploit without dragging in children." Kakashi gave Satoru a look. The nonchalant manner with which Kakashi was casually threatening the higher ups made Satoru grin. Kakashi truly was a fearsome enemy. Those old coots won't know what hit them when Kakashi decides to play for keeps.
Satoru raised his hands in surrender, "Come on Kakashi! Have some faith in me!" Satoru pouted.
Kakashi walked over and put the food on the table. "I do, I do." Kakashi ruffled Satoru's hair. Satoru pouted, but didn't move away. He hated admitting it, but he craved Kakashi's physical touch. It was a comfort that he selfishly hoarded and fought for since they were little.
Who was older again?
Ring ring. A black phone with a dog keychain vibrated on the table. With a sigh it was picked up, "Oh? Megumi?" Kakashi, now 28, placed the phone to his ear. Kakashi was freshly returned from a mission. He wore a black long sleeve, black techwear pants, combat boots, and a sleeveless blue hoody. "Yo."
Satoru, who was standing beside him, tilted his head. "Why'd he call you? I'm the sensei." Satoru pouted. Kakashi rolled his eyes and ignored his brother. Satoru whined and draped himself over Kakashi's shoulders.
"What do you mean it isn't there?" Kakashi tensed underneath him and Satoru lifted his head to listen more carefully. They both listened to Fushiguro intently. "Alright. See what you can find out. Let us know if you need back up." Kakashi said his farewell and hung up.
"That isn't just something that can be lost." Satoru spoke his voice humming through Kakashi since he was practically bear hugging him. Kakashi nodded in agreement.
"We should probably head out to see for ourselves." Kakashi agreed.
"Really?! You'll come with?" Satoru pulled away and began to bounce with excitement. It had been so long since they had done a mission together. Nowadays they were so split up it wasn't even funny. It was killer on Satoru's mood.
"This is a finger of Sukuna. You'll probably need the help to track it down." Kakashi jammed a thumb to his own chest. "Who better than the best Jujutsu Tracker?"
Satoru proceeded to glomp him.
Fushiguro slapped his hands together in a familiar sign. "Yuji Itadori! I will now exercise you as a curse!" How could he let this happen? This was all his fault. He shouldn't have let Itadori get stuck into this. He should have just left the other boy at the hospital.
And now…
"Shouldn't we see a doctor or something?" It sounded like Itadori. But that didn't mean anything. Curses were tricky. Especially the king of curses. Could he do this?
His heart began to pound and his wounds were pulsing with pain from the quicker pounds of his heart. "What's the situation?" He never thought he would be relieved to hear that voice, but he was.
"Megumi. You're losing a lot of blood. Hold still." A softer voice made him slowly turn to look at his rescuers. Kakashi was crouched in front of him. A soft gaze on his usually lax features. He felt Kakashi take his hands and ease them apart. Fushiguro's body tensed, but with Kakashi's gentle persistence he dropped his hands.
A familiar green glow appeared above his eye and he closed his eyes as he took in the familiar itch and comforting feeling of his wound being stitched closed. "Well I ate that thing." Fushiguro grimaced as Kakashi stopped abruptly. He and Satoru were staring at Itadori with obvious disbelief.
"Tell me he didn't." Kakashi pleaded.
"Really?" Satoru asked flatly.
"He did/I did." At that reply Kakashi sighed and his eyebrows pinched together. He groaned and continued taking care of Fushiguro.
"It really did combine with you." Satoru was leaning in and observing Itadori. Kakashi held out a hand without even looking back to take the pink bag from his twin. Satoru beamed and began to stretch now that his hands were free. Kakashi placed Fushiguro further away and continued his first aid.
"Don't worry. I'm the strongest." Satoru spoke with confidence. Fushiguro rolled his eyes and Kakashi shook his head. Fushiguro watched with fascination, but he tried to act unimpressed. It was always amazing to see one of the twins in action. Both brothers were talented and so strong.
Kakashi noticed Fushiguro's rapt attention to the battle and smiled softly. Fushiguro looked up to Satoru in a lot of ways. The boy soul never admit it, but Satoru was the parental figure he needed. Kakashi was up there as well, but Satoru was always there for the boy.
Fushiguro had latched on and Satoru had latched on right back.
As the fighting got worse Kakashi grabbed Fushiguro and was quickly behind Satoru. Still with the pink bag dangling on his wrist. "3…2…1." Having finished up with the most pressing injuries on Fushiguro he appeared next to Satoru as he knocked Itadori out.
Satoru eased him over to Kakashi. Kakashi took the boy with gentle ease and began to run a diagnostic check. Kakashi listened as the two began to discuss Itadori's fate. Kakashi's interest was peaked when Fushiguro said he wanted to save Itadori. This was a first.
Huh. Maybe the boy had made a friend. Good for him.
Kakashi rubbed at his neck with a sigh. Missions sure could be annoying. "Uh oh!" Kakashi was suddenly bowled into from behind. He groaned and looked up.
"Ah! Sorry Gojo Sensei!" A familiar voice panicked as the person hopped off of him. Kakashi pushed himself up off of the ground. He was wearing a loose baggy green t-shirt, black cargo pants, and combat boots. He looked up to see Yuji Itadori holding a hand out to him.
"Oh! Sorry! I just assumed with the hair you were…wait! Don't I know you?" Itadori tilted his head.
Kakashi chuckled and got up off of the ground. "Kakashi Gojo. It's nice to formally make your acquaintance. We really didn't get a chance to talk that night. And I had to head back to the school before you woke up. Someone had to escort Megumi." Kakashi dusted his pants off. It was like watching someone flick a switch on the boy.
"Oh yeah! You're Sensei's twin! Apparently you're- like- super strong too! Or at least that's what Fushiguro told me. I'm super sorry I ran into you!" The boy was flapping his arms with excitement. Kakashi was reminded of an excitable blonde that he once knew.
That thought warmed his chest as he reached out and ruffled the boy's pink locks. "Don't worry too much, Yuji-kun. Why were you in such a hurry anyways?" Kakashi tilted his head.
"Oh! Kugisaki wants to go shopping!" Itadori stuck out his tongue with disgust. "If Fushiguro doesn't have to go then I don't want to go. I'll be the only one that has to carry the bags."
Kakashi blinked and then laughed, "I could see where that would be frustrating. Maybe you and I could spar instead? I want to see what Satoru-nii has been teaching you." Kakashi offered. He honestly did have his interest piqued. Was Satoru taking the time to ensure that Yuji could handle himself alongside his peers? Yuji was a boy that had been thrown into this life with a decision he made to save others. He should be catching up with the others.
"Really?!" Itadori grinned and was hopping up and down. "Yeah! Anything is better than shopping!"
They went to an open field on school grounds and they were separated by a stream. "I gotta warn you, Gojo-San. I throw a nasty hook!" Itadori grinned.
"Maa don't worry about me." Kakashi waved his hand dismissively. Itadori huffed and lowered himself into a crouch and moved to the balls of his feet. Kakashi eyes this action.
"Not a bad stance all things considered. While keeping himself low he allows the attacks to start at his base. By staying on the balls of his feet he keeps mobility without sacrificing the power of the stance. Not bad at all. He has definitely fought before." Kakashi thought with an analytical eye.
Itadori launched himself forward. He let out a battle cry and drew back a fist, but he was surprised when Kakashi sidestepped and grabbed his wrist. Then he used Itadori's momentum to flip him onto his back. Just as fluidly Kakashi made him roll onto his stomach and pinned his arm behind his back. The dust clouds from the scuffle sat in the air, but began to settle around Itadori.
"So hasty. I haven't even said start yet." Kakashi mused allowed this time. Itadori blushed and poured. Kakashi snorted at the similarities to Itadori and Satoru. No wonder these two got along swimmingly. Both too energetic and chaotic for their own good.
"You didn't say that I had to wait for start." Itadori grumbled and huffed. This action sent dirt and plucked grass into the air. Kakashi chuckled once more.
"Perhaps I didn't forgive me. Let's try this again then. Start." Kakashi was suddenly on the other side of the stream now with his hands in his pockets.
Itadori quickly scrambled to his feet and rushed Kakashi once more. Kakashi angled his body away from the first swing, then moved the other side to avoid the next one. "Ah. The good ole one two combo?" Kakashi questioned. Itadori growled and began a spin kick, but Kakashi squatted to the floor. Itadori hissed and Kakashi was suddenly behind him. Deciding to save the more lethal jutsu (A Thousand Years of Death) off the table, he simply kicked Itadori on the rear making the boy fumble and face plant.
"My, my. You're becoming quite acquainted with the ground today, Yuji-kun." Kakashi chirped in a sing-song voice. Itadori somersaulted and then flipped to his feet. Itadori began to throw as many blows in succession as he could. It was really quite impressive the smooth chaos of his movements. Itadori was quite unpredictable and that showed his genius in close quarter combat.
However, it would appear that the boy wasn't tapping into his cursed energy. Perhaps his body hadn't acclimated and he couldn't access the cursed energy yet. That was always a possibility. In that case…
Kakashi ducked under a swing and swept Itadori's feet right out from under him and then pinned him once more. Itadori fought for a few seconds, but when he discovered he couldn't overpower Kakashi he sighed and ceased.
Kakashi relinquished his tight hold and held out a hand to the worn out and dirty boy. "I didn't land a single hit." Itadori whined as he took Kakashi's hand. Kakashi hoisted the boy up and smiled.
"That's because I didn't want you to." Itadori folded his arms and pouted in response. Kakashi smiled and ruffled his hair, "You did good today. You have a real knack for close quarters combat. It was just too bad that I am better at it." Kakashi laughed as Itadori batted away the hand in response.
"Tell you what. After this next mission of yours I'll start showing you some stuff. If Satoru is okay with it. I think I could really pull out the cursed energy in you. With some time of course. For now, here." Kakashi reached into a pouch on his belt and held out a kunai with markings on the blade. "That has my sealed cursed energy. It should help you fight curses."
Itadori's eyes widened, "Really? Are you sure?"
Kakashi nodded, "I heard that you were having some trouble, so I was going to give this to Satoru-nii anyways. I made it with you in mind." Kakashi shrugged and he watched as Itadori's face lit up into a grin.
"Thank you, Gojo-shishou!" Itadori bowed. Kakashi blinked and the title and then smiled at the boy.
"Sure. Come and find me when you finish your next mission."
"You bet! See ya!" Itadori waved and bolted off to who knows where. Kakashi smiled to himself and looked up at the sky.
He turned and began a long walk into the tree line. The sun was beginning to set and lit the world with beautiful hues of purple and orange. The sounds of the nightlife filled his ears and the smell of trees filled his nose. The soft padding of his shoes in the dirt was light. Almost nonexistent. Which was to be expected of a once assassin.
As he reached his destination he knelt to the ground. He pulled off some vines and moss that hid carved names into a tree.
"Sakumo Hatake
Obito Uchiha
Rin Nohara
Minato Namikaze
Kushina Uzumaki
Asuma Sarutobi
Jiraiya
Tsunade Senju
Kurenai Yuhi
Tenzo
Sai
Maito Gai
Sakura Haruno
Sasuke Uchiha
Naruto Uzumaki
Konoha."
It was a good list. A list of many precious people that he had left behind.
"Yuji Itadori…he's a lot like you two. Naruto…Obito. You would have liked him." Kakashi smiled and his voice was so somber. He closed his eyes in remembrance of two bright smiles that annoyed him at some point in his life. However, he couldn't see how that could have ever been. Those two had become beacons. Turning points for Kakashi. They had saved him.
"Whatever the village may say…I think you're a great jonin."
"I never forgot what you taught me that day Kakashi-Sensei. Those who break the rules are scum. But those who abandon their friends are worse than scum."
Kakashi reverently traced the names. "Wherever you all might be. Help this next generation. Times are going to get hard again. I'm not strong enough to stop it. But they could really use some of your guts." Kakashi smiled to himself as he thought of Jiraiya's book. A favorite of his, but then again which book wasn't?
Evening turned to night and his mind told him that Satoru was coming. With this in mind he covered the tree back up and began his meander to meet his brother halfway. "Kakashi!" The older Gojo hugged him. "So I heard you sparred with Yuji! Whaddya think?"
"He's got a lot to learn." Satoru whined at that, but Kakashi continued, "but he has potential."
"Right? So I was thinking-" Kakashi smiled as he listened to his ecstatic brother.
"I'm doing alright guys. Keep watching over me for now, okay?"
A shrill cry escaped a purple monstrosity. With slick skin that had holes marring its body. Its razor sharp teeth were bared at its cry. Raising it's elongated limbs it slammed down on the building's floor.
"Maa…you are so noisy." A hand was placed on its back as purple lightning surged from the palm. The monster burst into pieces as its remains turned to ash.
Kakashi let out a sigh and ran a hand through his hair. He wore a green bomber jacket, white baggy shirt, black mask, brown cargo pants, and black combat boots. Thankfully this mission he didn't get a scratch on him. He wanted to sigh with relief, because Satoru could be such a mother hen.
Satoru would hound and whine at Kakashi to go get checked out after assignments. In dire times, (Dire in Satoru's mind), he would drag Kakashi to get checked out the minute he stepped onto Jujutsu Tech land. He hummed and checked the time on his phone to ground himself back into the world, "Time to hitch a ride." He was about to click on Ijichi's name when his phone blasted.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "Oh. Ijichi. Just in time. I was just about to call-"
"Ah! Kakashi-San! Where are you?" Kakashi's gaze narrowed.
"Why did you run earlier? Kind of a waste of your talents." Sukuna raised a clawed finger.
Fushiguro glared at the curse with frustration. He ignored the blood streaming down his bruised face. He ignored the ache in his chest. He ignored the way he wanted to scream at his failures.
"Sorry. Am I intruding?" A familiar voice made them both look to the side. White hair fluttered in the wind as he landed with grace. He had his hands in his pockets and his knees were slightly bent from the landing. He straightened to his full height and looked up with his sharingan spinning. "I hate to interrupt, but I'm here to get Itadori back."
Sukuna made a face, "You like that other annoying sorcerer." Sukuna observed with annoyance.
Kakashi tilted his head and smiled, "Oh? You mean Satoru-nii?"
Fushiguro let out a breath of relief. Help had arrived.
"So you're the whelp's younger brother. Guess you got the worst luck to have a brother like him." Sukuna smirked.
Kakashi's lazy gait never wavered, but his head tilted up just barely. It was obvious he was looking down on Sukuna from that angle. "Maa…I'd rephrase that if I were you." Suddenly a hand was on Sukuna's ankle. Sukuna looked down in shock when he was suddenly yanked into the earth below.
The earth was confining around him. How was he doing this?! These brothers are annoying! Sukuna thrashed and broke the ground escaping from the prison. A growl erupted from his throat as he landed. Kakashi lifted himself from the ground and proceeded to dust himself off leisurely as if he wasn't facing the king of curses. "Hm…I suppose I should have known that it would take a little more than that."
"What is with you sorcerers? So annoying!" Sukuna rushed Kakashi. Kakashi simply stood in place as Sukuna slid right through him. The wind swayed Kakashi's hair just a bit as the sharp whistle of Sukuna's movements pierced the air. Kakashi looked unphased as he turned his gaze to Sukuna. Sukuna refused to admit the cold sweat that might have broken at that gaze. It was the same as the other one. Same piercing disinterest. It was really pissing him off.
Sukuna hissed as he whirled on his feet to meet the fist of Kakashi, the man finally having moved. Sukuna was shocked at the pure force this human had. He really was like his brother. He went flying back and crashed into a concrete wall. Debris clouded his vision, but he could see the terrifying glow of the Sharingan. The dust cloud did very little to mask the animosity and killing intent radiating from the sorcerer.
"So King of Curses…" Kakashi's hand was sparking with lightning. "Is that all you've got?" Kakashi's sharp and cold drawl was terrifying, but Sukuna held his ground and snarled. He wasn't going down because of a geezer wannabe.
"Itadori!" Sukuna and Kakashi hesitated to turn facing Fushiguro. "Just so you know…"
Kakashi glanced at Sukuna wearily. But he wasn't going to stop Fushiguro.
"I didn't have a logical reason for saving you that day…I did have reservations, but…those were selfish and emotional ones." Kakashi's eyes widened when he saw Fushiguro with a smile. A pure one. Then his gaze softened. The sharingan capturing the moment unintentionally.
"I'm a jujutsu sorcerer. I never once regretted saving you." Kakashi turned to Sukuna just in time to see the markings slowly disappear from the boy's skin.
"You've thought this out a lot more than I have." Itadori smiled and rubbed at the back of his neck. "Oh…I'm sorry. I don't have a lot of time left." He looked at Kakashi. "Thank you. For stopping me…Gojo-shishou…guess I won't get to learn those awesome moves…after all…"
He turned to Fushiguro once more. "I won't be here to worry about you…or Kugisaki…or Sensei…I hope you all have long and happy lives…" Itadori fell forward as the life drained from his eyes. Kakashi was there in seconds holding the boy's corpse from splashing into the muddy dirt below.
Kakashi took off his bomber jacket and laid it on the ground. After doing so he placed Itadori on it with reverence. He could hear Fushiguro struggling to hold in the tears. "It's okay to grieve…Megumi."
Fushiguro sank to his knees and Kakashi heard the splash of water on concrete. He closed his eyes and turned his head to give the boy privacy.
"Obito…Naruto…Sensei…everyone…watch over Yuji for me. He's gone to be with you all now." Kakashi bit back the bitterness in his mouth. He felt a lump forming and he fought the sadness that ate away at his very soul.
Kakashi stood in the morgue on the other side of Satoru. He now wore a black leather jacket instead of the bomber jacket. "I'm sorry Nii-san. I got there too late." Kakashi's voice was somber.
He was too late. Just like he always was.
The room felt too stuffy and Satoru's underlying rage was bubbling underneath the surface. Kakashi was feeling suffocated, but he refused to leave Satoru's side. "Don't apologize Kakashi." Satoru's tone was softer than Kakashi expected. However, just as quickly as the softness came, Satoru's hands tightened.
"…maybe I should just go kill those fools." Satoru suggested with barely controlled ire. Which Kakashi understood. Satoru never could admit it, but these kids became family. Kakashi should know. He thought of three adorable genin that worked their way into his heart.
Kakashi saw Ijichi flinch at the corner of his eye. This made him sigh, "You shouldn't stoop to their level, Satoru-nii." Kakashi rubbed the heel of his palm into his eye absentmindedly.
"And why shouldn't I?" Satoru huffed, "I became a teacher to raise up strong allies, but what good is it if those old conservative fools kill them off."
Kakashi ignored the way his body wanted to tense at Satoru's killing intent. Instead he placed a hand on Satoru's shoulder. "Because you're better than them. That's why you'll succeed and they'll fail. We need comrades nii-san. They are the ones who lift us up when we fall, so that we can succeed. Don't try to shoulder it all on your own. Keep doing what you're doing. You're what these kids need."
Satoru's killing intent wavers, before dissipating. "Aw! My Kakashi is so wise!" Satoru grinned. Ijichi let out a sigh of relief and Kakashi rolled his eyes. Satoru glanced at Kakashi and gratitude swelled in his chest. Whatever he did in his past life must have been good, because he was truly blessed to have him as his twin.
While Satoru could be impulsive and chaotic more often than not, Kakashi was calculative and calm. They were each other's natural opposites. Both being nonchalant of course. But Kakashi's natural calm could ease the fire within Satoru. While Satoru's chaotic fun would lighten the dark calm that often plagued Kakashi's mind.
They were each other's anchors.
"Well. I'm going to get started." Shoko caught their attention. "Are you guys going to stay over there the whole time?"
Then as if out of some horror film Itadori sat up. The hole that was once in his chest was noticeably absent. Kakashi's eyes widened as Ijichi began to panic. However, Kakashi only released a sigh as Satoru began to chuckle.
"Yo! Yuji! Welcome back!" Satoru walked over and high fived the boy.
Kakashi's gaze softened and he looked up at the ceiling, "Thank you." He hoped that his family heard.
Kakashi hummed as he leaned over the couch and read through the movies that Itadori was sitting through. "Interesting method, but effective." Kakashi agreed with a nod.
"Because I'm a genius." Kakashi rolled his eyes and Itadori snorted.
"Maa you should start with that one Yuji-kun." Kakashi pointed to Pride and Prejudice. "It's a sweet story."
"I knew you'd pick that one." Satoru grinned as he peeked over Itadori's other shoulder. "You've always been a sucker for romance."
Kakashi shrugged, "The plot is good and the character development is outstanding. No complaints here."
Itadori made a face and Satoru snorted, "Itadori doesn't care about that stuff yet. He wants an action movie! Like Mission Impossible!" Satoru bounced with excitement and anticipation.
"I can understand action, but you shouldn't snub a whole genre. Romance is just as good." Kakashi shook his head with a sigh. "How could my brother be so misguided?"
Itadori rolled his eyes, "I'm gonna start with Star Wars. Can't go wrong with that." Itadori said as he pulled out the disc. Kakashi picked up the corpse and placed it in Yuji's hands. The boy huffed as the corpse was already fighting him.
They all became enraptured by the movies being played until Itadori nearly died because of soda. Kakashi shook his head, "Didn't I tell you that you should just watch and not eat? Soda is so fattening anyways." Kakashi picked up a can and shuddered at the list of ingredients.
"Yeah. Just don't eat." Satoru grinned from his leaned posture.
"You can't watch a movie without popcorn and soda!" Itadori glared at the twins with indignation.
Kakashi rolled his eyes and Satoru responded with, "You got a point there."
"We should get going. Ijichi just arrived." Kakashi looked at the text on his phone.
"Well! Gojos gotta get going. Keep working hard!" As they were leaving, Kakashi stopped to listen to Satoru's questions. The fact that Itadori couldn't remember what had happened was concerning. More than likely this would become an obstacle that would need to be handled. Hopefully something that they could manage.
As they were driving along Kakashi glanced at Satoru. His energy had begun to search around them and Kakashi glanced out of his own window. "Stop here."
Ijichi did as requested and Satoru stepped out. "You guys just go on without me." Satoru grinned at Kakashi specifically.
"I'm sure you have it handled. Let us know if anything fun happens." Kakashi folded his arms.
"I'd never keep secrets from my little brother!" Satoru acted wounded. Kakashi flicked his nose playfully in response.
"Is this some sort of test?" Ijichi looked to the more trustworthy Gojo.
"Go on Ijichi. He'll be fine." Kakashi eased the man's concerns. Before he annoyed Satoru.
Better for all parties if Satoru wasn't annoyed.
Kakashi sat in wait with his arms folded. He was leaning on a wall with Ijichi sweating buckets. He couldn't blame the man. Yaga Sensei had a mean glare.
"He's late!" Yaga growls out sharply. Kakashi pitied the man as Ijichi yelped.
A few minutes later Satoru pops in, "Hello!"
Kakashi sighs and pinched the bridge of his nose. Satoru simply grinned. "You won't believe it, but a special grade just tried to kill me!" Satoru said with glee.
Yaga, Kakashi, and Ijichi looked at him with varying degrees of exhaustion. "That isn't all is it? A special grade is nothing to you." Kakashi folded his arms and Satoru preened under the praise.
However, Satoru quickly became more serious as he folded his arms and sat down. "This cursed spirit…could clearly communicate. It also…was saved by another curse. A much more interesting one as well."
Kakashi pressed his back further into the wall behind him. Unease settled in his stomach, "Curses with that high of a level of intelligence working together is worrisome." Kakashi came to the same conclusion as Satoru.
"Curses just seem to be getting worse by the day." Yaga sighed.
Kakashi looked at Satoru and they seemed to have a nonverbal conversation.
After concluding the meeting Satoru and Kakashi met on top of the roof. "There's a spy." Kakashi hummed with disdain.
"But the question is who is it?" Satoru held his chin with his thumb and index finger. Kakashi took note of the midnight sky and the darkness surrounding them. Kakashi stuffed his hands in his pockets.
"I'll investigate the other sorcerers. You can take care of the students. I hate to think that it could be one of them, but we can't rule them out." Kakashi spoke his plan with a sigh.
Satoru hummed and nodded. "What about Kyoto?"
"Utahime's teaching there now, right?"
"Oh right!" Satoru snapped his fingers. "Glad you are volunteering." Kakashi could tell that Satoru was wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
"I'm not. Why don't you do it? She likes you." Kakashi shrugged.
"Likes me? Kakashi, are you feeling alright? She's always liked you." Satoru vehemently denied. Both twins looked visibly perplexed at this conversation. Apparently both were under the impression that Utahime liked the other.
"Well I remember the one time where she blushed talking about you." Kakashi offered his piece of evidence. He was sure that Satoru would understand.
"Did she really say me? Or Gojo?" Satoru challenged. Kakashi leaned back in surprise that he caught that.
"Oh come on. She used to hound you all the time. That has to mean something, Nii-san!" Kakashi argued.
"That's because I was trying to annoy her! She is just so easy to rile up!" Satoru defended himself. The two began to debate with each other in over who she liked and who would talk to her.
They ended up deciding over rock-paper-scissors.
Satoru lost.
