Lots of Love,

-Dark-

"E, how am I supposed to breathe?"

"Slowly." Evie nods as she walks into her view, "In through your nose and then delicately out through your mouth. It keeps your lips just slightly parted and makes you look hella fabulous."

She rolls her eyes, "Yeah, okay, because I need to look hella fab-"

"Don't you dare finish that sentence." Evie glares up at her, one perfectly painted blue nail pointed accusingly only inches from her face. "I have worked so hard on this dress, and you're going to be the center of everyone's attention today, and damn it, Mal, just let my dress be admired even if you don't care about it."

She sighs painfully as Evie manages to tighten the strings to keep her shoulders pulled back.

She wanted to be mad.

She wanted to tell everyone exactly how little she cared about their opinions of her.

She wanted to not care about Evie's dedication to making this dress perfect, but even she'd never been that heartless.

She knew Snow White would be there with the other journalists on top of this being 'THE' event of Auradon.

That was why Evie was so painfully psychotic about making sure everything was just so today.

She just wanted to impress the woman who was adopting her and Dizzy.

And she couldn't blame her. Wasn't that the reason she'd gone to try and make amends with Jane?

She takes a slow deep breath before she lets it out. "Right." She forces a smile on her lips as she swallows her own thoughts and allows Evie to fuss.

Evie sighs, "I know you hate it," she looks up from her fussing, "but thank you."

A little smile twitches on her lips before she rolls her eyes, "Yeah, well, whatever. I just don't want to deal with you being a psycho all day." More like she was worried about disappointing her, not that she would ever tell her that. "So, ya know, just do what you need to."

"It's a good choice," Evie smirks, "because I totally would be."

"Don't we all fucking know it." Her snort is choked off when Evie puts a knee to her back and pulls the strings so tight her ribs creak. "E. Breathe. Need."

"Perfect."

"I-" She struggles to take a breath, "Really hate you." She glares.

"That's how I know it's perfect, M." Evie pouts up at her, "Beauty is pain, and for you, that means hating me." She sighs before she pokes her quivering lower lip out, "I'll find a way to live with it."

Ugh. "Fuck you." She manages to breathe out.

Where the fuck was Jay? He'd know how to loosen this damn thing.

"Carlos better be back soon," Evie's eyes narrow before she guides Mal to the vanity, "because he's going to join you in hating me if I have to go hunt him down."

"It's the pup." She waves her off. "He probably got distracted with something, but he knows better than to piss you off. He'll be back before you finish painting my face."

"Distracted is what worries me. And I know Hiro is lurking around here just waiting to get him covered in oil and grease."

"Even Hiro doesn't have the balls to do that to you today." She rolls her eyes. "He thinks you're the scary one."

Though after being waved off by Evie the last four hours… She was starting to question her own ability to intimidate.

"One can only hope." Evie glowers.

She turns to place a hand on Evie's shoulder. "You need to just fuckin' breathe. We're all going to look wicked today because of you. So just, ya know," She glares into Evie's worried eyes, "Breathe. And stop freakin'."

Evie studies her for a moment before she takes a slow, deep breath. "Right." She nods. "I know you will all look Fabulous. It's just-" She sighs as her eyes drop to the floor.

"I know." She shakes her head, "I get it. But everyone is going to be drooling and humping your leg for their own E original after today. Even the fucking Queen lost her shit when she saw this-" She gestures to her gown. "So, just, ya know, chill."

Evie bites her lip for a second as she scrutinizes her before she curtly nods her head. "You're right. You look wicked, and so do the boys."

"Exactly," She sighs in relief. "Now do my face so I don't look like a troll."

"Of course." Evie smiles brightly before she finds herself shoved into the chair, draped with a towel and choking on the dust of foundation.

Ugh.

The things she did for Evie.

Still, she can't help her smile when Evie starts humming the way she usually did when she was happy.

"Carlos." Evie greets knowingly when the door to the room slowly opens, the brush she was applying the shadow not even pausing. "You are very late." She tuts.

"I know." Carlos apologizes.

She's happy when Evie turns at the distracted tone. She didn't want to be yelled at or mess anything up, but damn it if Carlos didn't sound off.

"S'wrong, Pup?" She frowns as she eyes the younger boy, who was already dutifully pulling off his shirts to change into the suit Evie had painstakingly sewn for him.

Her eyes narrow, as they always did, as she catches a glimpse of the fading scars covering his back before his hastily thrown-on undershirt covers them.

She still couldn't name all the emotions she felt when she caught sight of them; she just knew it always left her torn between punching something or hugging Carlos to her and crying.

"I um, I think someone was yelling at Audrey or something." Carlos slowly admits, his eyes far away as he absently turns for the bathroom with his suit in hand.

That was strange.

People rarely yelled in Auradon. Let alone at the perfect pink princess.

So who the fuck would dare? Especially today?

She frowns as she looks up at Evie, who was busy looking at the bathroom door in concern.

"I can trust you to handle the gloss, right?" Evie asks her, already following behind Carlos.

No. There were like fifty tubes of gloss arranged on the vanity, and not a single one was clear.

But she nods, willing to deal with the lecture if it meant Evie was able to focus on taking care of the pup.

He vaults over the banister to the stairs before he takes the steps two at a time.

He knew he was grinning like an idiot. Just oddly enough, he didn't care.

Everything was coming up Jay today.

It was still weird to look at Nani and David and see parents.

More specifically, his parents.

Real parents.

But they were so awesome at making it not weird. They reminded him daily that being family was automatic, but he could take him time adjusting to the idea.

They would be a family on his time, and it was okay for him to need time.

Seriously, how fucking lucky was he?

His grip tightens around the box in his hands before he groans and takes the time to, again, wipe his palms across his pants.

Not hunting nerves were the worst.

Lonnie was going to love the dagger. He just knew it.

So then why did his stomach feel like it was taking falls off of five-story buildings?

His eyes narrow when he hears a faint sound.

Not faint because it was soft. More like a loud sound that was muffled.

Muffled by a door?

He turns in confusion when he hears it again—the sounds of a raised voice.

Coming from Audrey's room?

His brow furrows. That didn't sound right. Audrey could be snippy and haughty, but he couldn't remember a single time he'd ever heard her raise her voice-

He blinks before dodging to the side when the doorknob turns, quickly tucking himself behind a suit of armor before Queen Leah walks out of Audrey's room.

Weird.

Why would the bitter old woman-

Oh wait, that's exactly why. Bitter. Old. Woman.

Still, it was weird to see Queen Leah sigh before straightening out her skirt and walking off.

He might not have been the biggest fan of Audrey, but having been on the receiving end of that woman's anger was scary.

He felt kind of, bad for Audrey.

He shakes his head as he waits for Queen Leah to vanish down the stairs before he continues walking to Lonnie's room.

He could talk to David and Nani about that later. Right now he just wanted to give Lonnie the dagger before his palms ruined Nani's pretty wrapping.

He takes a deep breath when he gets to her room, but before he can knock, the door opens.

"Hey Jay," Lonnie greets brightly as she steps out of her room.

"Hey, Lonnie." He smiles as he shifts to hold the package behind his back.

She looked- He blinks as he takes a step back to fully admire her dress, "Wow, you look-"

"Like one of the triple Ps?" She chuckles with a pretty blush dusting her cheeks. "Yeah, I know, my dad insisted." She rolls her eyes, "But check it-" She lifts the skirt to reveal her beat-up sneakers. "Mom got me a long dress. Heels suck."

He blinks, "Uh, well I was going to say great, but now I'm afraid that's an insult or something."

"Oh," She grins sheepishly as her blush intensifies. "Thanks."

"An' 'sides," He grins as he leans against the wall, "all the triple Ps wish they could pull off looking as good as you in anything. Even work out sweats."

Her smile widens, "You're looking pretty damn good yourself. I've never seen your hair pulled back."

"Yeah, well," He freezes before he can rub the back of his head, "Evie is a force to be reckoned with on a normal day." He explains with a chuckle.

"She doing okay? I know how stressed she's been..."

"She's E. High strung and stressed is kind of her speed." He shrugs and crosses his arms over his chest before he remembers the box in his hands, "Oh, uh, I um-"

He holds the package out for her.

She blinks in surprise as she looks between him and the box.

"I heard that it's like, normal or whatever for a guy to get the girl something, you know, but I uh, well, you're not like the other girls, so I didn't really know if the normal was good enough, so I, well here."

She grins widely as she takes the box, "I've never really done this before either, if it helps. I totally wasn't expecting-"

"Really?" He takes a slow breath to curb himself from sighing in relief.

"Really," She nods with a shrug.

"Guess I forget that your awesomeness isn't as cool to the others in Auradon." He chuckles. Not that he was going to complain about it.

It was their loss if they couldn't see her the way he could.

She chuckles, "Not even a little." She turns her attention to the package with excitement as she pulls the ribbon free before she starts unwrapping the box. "'Sides I'm like one hundred percent sure I'll-"

He grins at the way her brown eyes light up, the soft pinks of her eyeshadow highlighting the hints of copper as she looks back up at him in excitement.

"This is the prettiest dagger I've ever seen." She smiles up at him. "Thank you."

"You like it then?" He asks with a small smile before he launches into an explanation, uncertain why he felt the need to explain the why behind his thoughts, "I mean, I know it's not the sharpest, and the balance is a little off-"

Suddenly he wasn't sure a dagger was the best gift to give her for their first thing together.

"I just, you always draw those flowers, like on everything, so I thought it was kind of cool that someone on this side of the barrier was like, personalizing blades like that. Maybe we can take some time to fix the problems so it will be a really good dagger?"

Her laughter fills the hall, "I love that you're worried about the quality. But seriously, it's gorgeous. I've never had a decorative blade before, at least not this kind." She smiles up at him prettily. "I love it." Her eyes shine brightly before she turns back to open her door. "Come on, this shouldn't take long," She pulls him into her room before she rushes to her dresser and starts digging through the top drawer.

He blinks as he looks around her room.

He wasn't surprised to see her swords and sports equipment slung on the back of chairs or tossed on the small couch, just like he wasn't surprised to see books in small piles around the room.

Lonnie was, after all, a really cool balance of brains and brawn.

But what did take him off guard was the fact the room was still very girly.

Mal and Evie still hadn't really altered the room they were given, but Lonnie's room was filled with posters and magazine cut-outs, small plush toys, and lots of pink, gold, and blue.

"Ah-ha!" She exclaims as she wraps the blade in a strip of leather before she holds it in her teeth and rips the tie from her hair, only to take the dagger and twists it in place. She turns to a mirror and adjusts the pommel slightly before she turns back to him, "It's perfect." She grins before she bounces over and pounces on him. "Thank you!" She hugs him tightly.

He chuckles as he looks her new hair ornament over, "Huh, you just made that a deadly hair accessory." He nods, "Cool."

"Right!?" She smiles brightly. "Thank you."

Why the fuck was he always so nervous about things with her when he wasn't with her? He snorts as he shakes his head before he holds his hand out, "I'm glad you like it."

"Very much." She nods as she takes his hand and leads him back out of her room. "Now, let's go meet the others." She locks the door behind her. "Don't need Carlos and Roy working each other up."

"Oh, I warned Roy to stay away. Evie is still pissed at him for not letting her get his measurements."

She snorts, "He'll learn eventually." She shakes her head.

He gently pulls her closer to his side, "My argument is that Roy obviously isn't dating Carlos, so he didn't need an Evie exclusive suit." He chuckles lightly, "And honestly, after we um, talked and everything, I didn't want to like, see you have to deal with E with so little time before the ceremony."

"I appreciate that." She smiles as she wraps an arm around his side and presses closer to him.

"Hey man, you look good."

He grins as he turns to find Doug walking towards the girl's dorms with a similar box in his arms.

Evie clearly had gotten a hold of him too. But he had to admit, Doug looked very sharp with his jacket the deep blue Evie favored. And his pocket square was a perfect small hint of apple red.

He was completely clueless when it came to fashion, but even he could tell Evie was good at her job.

"You too. I think the blue suits you well."

"Thank you," Doug nods with a dopey grin. "I have no idea where she found the time but-" His cheeks flush as he plucks at the sleeve. "I love that she made them in her colors."

He could only imagine the step this was for both of them. After his conversations with Mal he knew the significance of Evie crafting Doug's suit in her colors.

Knew it was a claim.

Did Doug?

He smiles before he holds the door to the dorm open, "You here to pick Evie up?"

"Sure am." Doug nods. "Can't have a princess go to a ceremony unattended."

"True." He pats Doug on the back as they walk towards Mal and Evie's room.

And if they were walking faster than normal, neither of them seemed willing to admit it.

"Would you like the honors?" Doug asks him with a grin as they stand in front of the door fiddling with the box in his hands.

He chuckles before he knocks on the door. "I'd brace if I were you."

"Brace?"

"You two are late!" Evie snaps as the door opens, and they're pulled into the room.

"Sorry," Doug blinks before he shakes his head. His eyes sweeping over Evie. "Hi-ho." He breathes, "You look…" He stares at her in awe. "Stunning."

He chuckles at Mal's small look of relief, clearly happy to no longer be the focus of Evie's perfectionism.

But his breath hitches as she comes fully into focus.

She was-

She was beautiful, except that didn't quite do her justice.

Regal. She looked regal.

Like the Queen he knew she could someday be.

He was suddenly happy to have the excuse of not interrupting Evie; he wasn't sure his voice would have worked.

Mal snorts as she eyes them. "You're both ridiculous." She shakes her head before she turns to Evie, "E, they look great, stop tugging and straightening. We don't have time for you to chip your polish." She rolls her eyes, "an' 'sides, you're about to have the dwarf aneurysming on our floor if you keep sweeping your hands over him like that."

"Mal." Evie turns a glare on her, "Every. Single. Evie. Original. Is. Going. To. Be. Scrutinized today-"

Mal holds up her hands. "Right, mother, calm your shit. Or it'll be both of you twitching on the floor."

"Okay," He holds his hands up as Evie inhales, surly to release another round of scolding on them, "Evie, thank you so much for the suit. It looks and feels amazing, and I am at a loss as to how I'll ever be able to thank you enough for helping me look my best today."

"By not wrinkling your suit of course, don't be ridiculous." Evie waves her hand.

"Done and done." He winks before he turns to Mal, "Luckily, we just have a carriage ride to worry about before this is almost over."

"Thank goblins," Mal mumbles before she leaps to his side, "get me the fuck outta here." She whispers in an urgent hush.

He chuckles before he carefully opens the box in his hand and pulls out the wrist corsage he'd had made especially for her. Thankfully with the help of Evie's fabric swatches and a talented florist by the name Lumiere.

"Oh." Mal blinks as he slips it over her wrist. "I didn't know roses could be purple."

"I mean, a few varieties of roses have purple tones to them, but these were originally white." He trails a finger over one of the blossoms before he lifts the edge of the greenery, "Though my favorite part is this fern kind of matches your eyes

"Huh." Mal's lips twitch into a small smile before she looks back up at him. "Ready?" She asks desperately.

He holds his arm out for her, "Of course."

She sighs in relief as she slips her arm around his, "See you two later. Luck Doug."

"Make sure Carlos is not getting dog hair on his suit," Evie calls after them before Mal can pull them from the room.

"Of course," Mal waves her off. "Like he would dare right now." She mumbles under her breath.

He chuckles as the door snaps shut behind them. "He wouldn't dare today, or are you simply reassuring her?"

"Both? Fucking psycho." Though she couldn't hide the smile.

"I believe the term is perfectionist." He amends as he guides her down the stairs.

"Usually, sure. That's what I would call it. Today though?" She snorts, "Not so much. This whole Snow shit is having her bug the fuck out." She shakes her head.

"Speaking of the adoptions. My father said the paperwork has finally been presented to the Board of Child Welfare."

She bites her lip as she studies the floor for a moment, "Well, that's good, right?" She asks a moment later.

"Yes." He frowns as he holds the outer door open, "It is. I just find the timing to be funny is all."

"Funny like haha or funny like of fucking course?"

"Of fucking course." He grins, knowing it usually amused them when he swore in front of them.

A smirk pulls at her lips, "Oooh. That's got to be the fifth time you've said fuck. Maybe we are bad influences."

"You'll get bored of it if I do it too often." He teases.

She beams up at him. "Fair enough." She squeezes his arm affectionately. "'Sides, the last thing we all need is for it to become normal for you to slip into conversation." Her eyes narrow, "Then again, good luck pinning it on us when we've been spending so much time with Hiro." She chuckles, but when her attention is suddenly drawn across the yard, a frown replaces the soft smile. Her eyes flash neon green for the barest moment before she turns away.

He frowns as he searches the direction she'd been looking, but the only noteworthy thing he could find in that direction was Jane's new chunk of bubblegum pink and deep blue hair. And the only reason he'd even noticed it was because she was playing with it as Audrey whispered beside her.

Jane had been hanging out with Audrey more and more of late, but that certainly wasn't something he thought would bother Mal.

He tilts his head to the side as he continues to walk with her silently.

"You okay?" He asks softly, turning to face her once he realizes they only had a few more moments of quiet before being thrust into the growing crowd waiting for them around the carriage.

Mal shakes her head, "Yeah, just-" She frowns. "It doesn't matter." She sighs. "I'm just, I don't know," She shrugs. "On edge, I guess? The energy today is crackling."

He smiles sadly at her description before he gently squeezes her hands, "I feel it too. But I promise this time all you have to do is what you're already doing."

He lightly pulls her hand up to brush his lips over her knuckles, "Show your support, look beautiful, and be yourself. No problems there." He smiles down at her.

She sighs even as she tightens her grip, "Sure." She rolls her eyes. "No problem up until one person too many stress me out and my eyes do that stupid flicker thing."

"Nothing bad happens when your eyes glow, Mal," He furrows his brow and lightly runs a hand over her hair, "when it happens enough, and people finally realize that they'll see how stupid they've been."

She huffs as she looks away with a small pout before she looks up at the bright sky above them. "I'm sure you're right," She shakes her head, "And look," She nods towards the sky, "Even the weather is behaving today. It's like even it knows greatness when it sees it."

"I very much appreciate that vote of confidence, Mal."

She turns back to him, "I know you're going to make a great king one day."

"One day," He grins as he pulls her closer to his side, wrapping one arm carefully over her ornately embroidered dress artfully clinging to her shoulders, "but thankfully, today is not that day."

Mal snorts, "No shit. High School and all your Council meetings are dumb enough without adding ruling a shit ton of kingdoms to your never-ending responsibilities." She turns to boop his nose. "You space out enough already. Fuck only knows how deep you'd get in there if they added that right now."

He blinks before he slowly grins. Damn, how he loved the fact she knew him so well.

He did space out every time he chased an idea or concept. And as King, he could only imagine how many ideas he would have to give attention to daily.

The idea fascinated him as much as it terrified him.

"Well, can't have me going too deep, can we?"

"At least not in front of your people." She chuckles "they might get a bit concerned."

He chuckles with her before he offers her his arm again, "When you're ready. I must say I'm looking forward to a carriage ride with you."

It was one of the only things he was looking forward to today.

Well, that, and the after-party on the castle lawn.

"Is that right?" She grins. "Not gonna lie, pretty sure I already prefer the privacy of limos. Then again, never thought I'd say that either." She admits with a frown.

"I will keep that in mind for our next date." He promises.

"Always so thoughtful." She rolls her eyes, though she couldn't hide her smile as she squeezes his hand. "Do you ever do anything selfish?"

"Oh, I'm selfish a lot. Luckily it's always also been the right thing to do too."

She eyes him over skeptically before she snorts. "Couldn't have been that selfish then."

"As soon as I was able to make my first decree, I brought you and your gang over by declaring that the children of the villains banished to the Isle of the Lost be given a chance at lives here in Auradon."

Her brow furrows together. "That's not selfish. That's just ballsy and a great way to scare the piss outta your people."

"Scaring the people or not, I do believe starting off my path to ruling by righting a wrong is the best way to go."

"Ha!" Her eyes shine brightly, "How the fuck is that selfish?"

A smile slowly claims his lips.

It was as if she was setting it up for him.

"I got to meet you." He points out simply.

She blinks as a blush dusts her cheeks before she looks away. "You're so fucking weird, you know that?"

Fucking corsets.

Anyone else have a love hate relationship with them? I mean sure they make you slimmer and shit, but fuck at what cost?

LoLz, Mal knowing Jay is so much of a slut he'd be able to help her loosen it.

JFC Leah is such a bitch.

Wonder what she was yelling at Audrey about?

Are you concerned that Jane is hanging out with her still?

Cause there is a super subtle reason as to why Audrey graviates to her. Any guesses?

Anyone wanna know?

Aw. Jay's so fucking awkward with his gift giving. Luckily he wasn't T level though. Still pretty damn cute.

Love that Lonnie immediately turned it into a hair accessorie?

Do you guys think it's cute Jay started stumbling himself about the quality?

Poor E. The little psycho.

Oh random as fuck question, but not really.

Would you rather face an angry Mal? Or an angry E? Dying to know which is more scary to you guys.

*Cringes in the most oof way* Poor fucking C. His back is just so- Fuck Cruella with the muffler of her hell mobile. Fucking bitch fucking with our cinnamon roll. I love it when she gets all up in arms about their pup. What about you guys?

Ben's thoughts are always so interesting to write, and I think Dark is just amazing with getting his dialogue just right. He's the only character we share so evenly. I love writing his introspection as much as Dark loves making him a mix of political while still maintaining his essence. But more importantly what do you guys think about the balance?

Dudes.

What do you think about the boys, Doug and Ben, seeing E and M?

Was it everything you wanted? Or were you guys hoping for more?

What about Doug loving E's claim on him? Was that Doug or was that Doug?

Any ways,

Hope you guys are having a great week!

Fave line:

"Both? Fucking psycho." Though she couldn't hide the smile.- Mal

What was yours?

(Sup… Dark here, I just wanted to add my own fav line!)
