Hey Descendants!

Sorry I'm a tiny bit late getting this out. I was coming out of anesthesia yesterday and it took longer than I thought it would to regain all my senses.

Anyway-

What do you guys think so far?

Let us know after the chapter, we look forward to hearing from you.

Enjoy!

-Dark-

Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my fucking god!

She looks around frantically.

What should they do?

It's not like she could use the wand.

She turns to glance at Carlos, who was looking right back at her.

Looking as lost as she felt.

Right.

With Jay and Mal out of commission-

Like it or not, that left her 'in charge.'

And right now, she did not like it.

She had no experience with this.

Like at all.

Fabric. Make-up. Make-overs.

Those were emergencies she could handle in her sleep.

But this?

"You took the space ship here, right? Do you know how to get the Baymax?"

"Uuuh, yeah, but why- Oh!" Carlos grabs her hand before they race to the tall double doors.

"Oh no!" She cries when they all but smack into the doors. "Break a window?"

"I mean, if the doors are sealed like this, there's a good chance Maleficent did- you know what, let's just- Right." He looks around before he grabs a sword from one of the guards, "Sorry, I uh, I need this."

She sighs when the sword ricochets off the window without so much as a scratch. "Of course not." She sighs before she looks around.

There were so many people here.

Innocent citizens who had nothing to do with any of this. People who'd just come out to support Ben.

Then there were also people she cared about.

People they were never going to see again because of this.

There was no way they weren't being sent back to the Isle after this.

She blinks back tears.

"We can't get out, and even if I could call him in, I doubt he could get in through that." Carlos frowns as he hugs Dude to his chest and looks around, "What do we do?" His lower lip trembles, "I- I don't want Hiro and Lilo to get hurt. I don't want any of them to get hurt."

"I know." She nods. "Same. I don't want to lose anyone we care about." She frowns.

Carlos sighs as he sets Dude down next to the door, "Stay buddy. Stay."

Dude whines, but eventually sits before laying on the floor.

They both jump at twin roars.

"Did you know Mal could turn into a dragon?"

"Ha!" She snorts inelegantly. "Did Mal?"

"That's what I thought." Carlos bites his lip as he looks around, "So, Jay looks like he's trying to pull people out of the way."

She turns to find Jay, "That's going to take forever…" She frowns. "But out of sight, out of mind, right?"

"It's that, or we become distractions so Mal can fight." Carlos grimaces.

"She can't fight in here. Not without hurting people. Her mother isn't going to care."

"Then we need Maleficent not to be a dragon anymore because that's the only way Mal will stop. And unless you've learned how to do spells-"

"Oh! spells!" She claps, "Good job, Pup!" She smiles brightly before she rushes to the door again. "What was that spell Mal used?" Her eyes narrow, "Make it easy, make it quick, open now without a kick." She frowns when she tries the door, only to find it still stuck fast.

"Or you could try to spell the bad dragon." Carlos offers hesitantly.

"What!?" Evie turns on her heels and stares at him in confusion. "I couldn't even spell a door open."

"I mean, I'm a science person, E, but even magic has rules. Maleficent has a spell on the door, so that's probably going to be harder to do."

She bites her lip. "But I-" They both scream when the whole church shakes.

"Something else, E!" Carlos begs, hugging her tightly as the building rumbles and groans around them, "Anything else!"

"Right!" She nods, "Go help Jay!" She pushes him in Jay's direction, "I'll figure something out." She nods before she runs, against all instincts, closer to the center of the church. Closer to where daughter and mother were fighting.

She can't help the falter of her feet as fear rises in her chest at the sight.

Maleficent had always been terror-inspiring. But this?

She glances around the room, overwhelmed and directionless on how to help.

But then her gaze settles on Doug.

She swallows hard as she stands straighter.

Doug.

He was one of the first people to actually get through to her. Show her who she was, or could be, if she would only give herself the chance.

She wasn't some dumb, helpless, airheaded princess in distress.

She was-

She was smart.

She was creative.

She was quick.

She turns to the green-bellied dragon with a glare.

She wasn't going to run.

She didn't need to wait for some prince to save her.

She just needed to think.

To breathe even though her lungs couldn't remember how.

Spells had rules.

They needed thought, intent, and rhyme.

She takes a deep breath.

She was going full T.

Trial and error.

Hopefully less error.

Because she had to do something.

Something was better than nothing.

She had to try.

Something.

Anything.

Right.

Right.

The building was damaged, and with every roar, more was breaking off to rain down on the people stuck inside.

That seemed like a good place to start.

She nods curtly before she braces her feet wide and throws her hands above her head.

"Proud church standing tall, do not let your structure fall!"

She blinks as she watches the ceiling around the gaping hole, laughing hysterically when the next shake of the building doesn't set anything else tumbling down onto the crowd below.

"YES!" She shouts in triumph before she suddenly staggers.

Oh no.

One hand drops to press against her aching, growling stomach.

She hadn't done that in months, more than months.

She hadn't felt light-headed since the last time her mother starved her.

Why had- Her eyes widen.

Big magic.

Big effects.

Big consequences.

She groans as she leans against a pillar.

One more.

She could at least do one more.

She had to.

She screams as green and purple fire fights for dominance above her.

The heat was overbearing.

She could do this.

For Mal.

Her leader. Her best friend. Her sister.

For Jay.

Her second and big brother.

For Carlos, her fellow lover of science and little brother.

For her foundation.

Waterproof it was, heatproof it was not.

"Dragon fire burning bright, take away the heat of your might!" She cries out brazenly, holding both of her arms up between herself and them.

Wind whips through the building, swirling around her before she suddenly finds herself on her back, staring up at the two dragons.

If it wasn't so terrifying, it would have been beautiful.

Or at least in her daze it was.

But then her heart freezes at the sight of the green dragon hurling the still frozen king.

No.

No, no, no!

She shivers at Mal's roar before she weakly pushes herself back up.

She caught him. That was all that mattered.

Being frozen meant that they couldn't help themselves.

The king-

One more.

She could manage one more.

They couldn't afford to let the people get hurt.

She stumbles as her eyes flick to the door.

She hadn't been able to open the sealed door. What made her think she could affect everyone under a spell.

Unless-

Unless she didn't try to free them from the spell.

Her eyes narrow as she struggles to string together a spell.

"People frozen where they stand, let no more damage land." She calls out forcefully.

She couldn't free them, but maybe she could help keep them safe.

Something pulses away from her, like a ripple from a drop of water, as she falls to her knees.

She watches as a soft royal blue light settles over all the human statues in the building.

It wasn't much, she could tell.

Maybe thinking she could handle three spells had been a little too ambitious.

She sighs softly before she smiles.

What was she, if not ambitious?

A roar of rage quickly washes out the sound of her name being screamed before the world fades with the beat of her heart.

Four hearts.

She smiles at the silly thought.

Her pack's hearts, finally beating as one.

Perhaps a little too late.

He narrows his eyes as he rips them from Evie's fallen form, "Go protect her, C," he barks

"On it!" Carlos nods before he bolts.

A smile twitches on his lips.

He knew their pup could run, especially when it came to self-preservation.

But seeing how quick he was to get to Evie?

Even he was proud.

He sighs before he looks over at David and Nani, the sight of them frozen a dagger in his side.

"I promise I won't even complain about being grounded." He teases, doing his best to shoot them a grin before he weaves around people to rush to Mal.

It was the best he could do with them frozen like that.

He wasn't even sure they could still see anything. Or hear.

He shakes his head, not that it mattered.

"Hey," He waves his arms, hopefully making himself a better target, "you think you're all big and bad? Seriously, we've been laughing at you since you had to lock T up." he forces himself to chuckle, "Like a weak ass bitch."

Maleficent turns with giant narrowed eyes before he finds himself standing amidst green fire.

He hadn't even had a warning.

Time to flinch.

Nothing.

He was just suddenly surrounded by warm, green fire.

Oh, thank fucking Kai he heard Evie right.

At least he wasn't going to get grounded, though if David and Nani were able to see this, he was pretty sure he'd get grounded just for the heart attack.

"Wow, you suck." He sneers.

Mal roars before she lands in front of him and extends her back paw to drop the king in front of him.

"Pathetic Mal, saving the very fucking person who banished us all to the Isle. Oh, it's like I don't even know you at all."

A puff of smoke leaves Mal's snout before she whips her tail in her mother's face.

"Yeah, you tell her, Mal." He snickers before he drags the King away from the beast battle, carefully setting him behind the pillar with Queen Belle, Fairy Godmother, Jane, and Ben.

Ben.

He still couldn't figure out what was different, but despite the chaos, something seemed off.

Not that he had the luxury of figuring out what at the moment.

Fuck if their future king didn't know how to snarl.

He rushes back out, "Come on, Mal, fighting her like this isn't going to get us anywhere, and E's down."

Mal turns to glare at him as she puffs another whiff of smoke and stomps her clawed paw in indignation.

"I mean-" He grimaces, "If you even know how to turn back into Mal."

She huffs as she turns away.

Maleficent roars before she soars back into the air, her eyes deadly set on him.

"Fuuuuuu-" He turns and starts running away from the crowd, towards the back of the cathedral.

Mal's screech fills the air as she tackles her mother into the side of the church.

"Nice-" He grunts in pain as the tip of Maleficent's tail sends him into the opposite wall.

He coughs as he hits the ground, unsure of how many more trips like that he could handle.

Hopefully, as many as he needed to.

Maleficent's laugh once more spills into the room as the ground shakes, and Mal lets out a cry of pain.

His jaw drops at the amount of blood on Mal's-

Snout? Face! Whatever.

It was a lot of fucking blood.

He shakes his head as he pushes himself back to his feet, one hand pressed against his ribs to ease the ache there.

With an evil grin, the green bellied dragon turns her eye on-

"Oh hell no!" He starts running at the same time that Mal forces herself back into the air.

Not Carlos and Evie.

"MAL!" Carlos cries out in terror as he pulls Evie closer and curls around her protectively.

He grunts in pain as he trips over someone, landing hard on the blue rug.

Too far away to be of any help.

"Mal!" He screams hoarsely, fighting the urge to throw up as he struggles to breathe.

Maleficent screams out in pain as Mal's teeth wrap around her neck, forcing her off course before Mal quickly lands hard in front of Carlos and Evie.

Purple smoke condenses around the purple dragon before Mal, her dress still smoldering, stands up.

"C!" She holds her hand out.

"Wha-oh-YEAH!" Carlos scrambles to hand her the wand.

He forces himself to his knees, fighting to pull in breath with lungs that felt like they were on fire.

He had to get to them.

"Try it again, you stupid fucking cunt!" Mal seethes as she holds out the wand threateningly towards Maleficent, "You are nothing. To Auradon. To the Isle. To my friends. And most of all to me. You don't scare me! Fuck, you're not even my mother anymore!"

"What?!" Maleficent's large green eye blinks down at her.

"Yeah, that's fucking right 'what.'" Mal spits.

Maleficent's eyes flare bright acid green, "I've had enough of this teenage rebellion phase-"

"And I've had enough of you!" Mal shouts back, her eyes the same acrid color.

He watches the new battle, recognizing the willful struggle between the two.

It happened all the time on the Isle.

This time was just a lot more intense.

"My pack is my family, and I fucking love them, mother. Fucking. Love. Them. And you know what? I love the fucking prince too. I think I might even be able to love my new family too. So choke on that bitch."

Maleficent makes a strange squawking noise before her eyes widen.

And then she vanishes in a literal puff of green smoke.

He gasps in surprise as he squints, trying not to lose the dragon in the smoke.

But what he saw in the shifting mess didn't make sense. "What the-"

"The fuck?" Mal walks through the plume before she kneels to poke an itty bitty lizard with the wand. "Huh." She blinks when the thing tries to bite it.

A tiny dragon? His brow furrows as he finally pulls himself to his feet.

Was it over?

"Hmm," Mal rolls her eyes as she takes the wand and forcefully rolls the lizard onto its back and rocks it several times, "yep, suits you."

He jumps when Fairy Godmother walks around the pillar he'd left her behind. "I think-"

"Shit!" Mal drops the wand. "We didn't-" She holds up her hands as she walks back, "I didn't- Fuck, run!" She barks at him before she races towards him and hooks her arm around his.

"What? Wait!" Fairy Godmother calls after them.

"C- E!' Mal calls out.

"Mal!" Fairy God Mother calls out again in concern. "Jay!"

"Jay!" Carlos frowns as he stands with Evie in his arms.

"I got her." He assures them as he pulls Evie into his arms as they continue to run, thankfully to doors that open.

He glances back over his shoulder, catching Fairy Godmother's look of confusion as she stares down at the wand in her hand.

Sure, she seemed confused now, but Maleficent let it slip that they'd initially been allowed to come here to get the wand.

And even if she-

He swallows against the lump in his throat.

David.

Nani.

Hiro, Lilo, Coach Jenkins, Mrs. Potts.

Ben, Doug, Roy-

Lonnie.

Each name was like a stab in his heart.

Even if they could move past this, how long until the council decided they were too dangerous?

How long until Evie and Carlos were sent back to the Isle?

He swallows hard again, unable to move the knot in his throat.

It killed him, knowing he'd put so many people in danger.

Everyone had been frozen, unable to dodge or protect themselves from attack or falling debris.

Blood.

How much blood was on their hands? On Maleficent's hands?

Did it really matter that it wasn't their fault?

Auradon had just been reminded of the reason they'd sent the villains away in the first place.

He holds Evie closer as he runs, blindly following behind Carlos as Mal half dragged him behind her by his hand.

He had no idea where they were going, but he didn't care anymore.

He had to leave people he loved behind.

Again.

This time he just understood the anger and the sadness.

This time he knew exactly what he was giving up.

All of it.

He was giving up all of it.

The family he could have had with David and Nani, Hiro and Lilo.

Hell, even Fairy Godmother and Snow White had opened their homes to them, knowing that they were all a packaged deal.

But, more painfully, the people that they could have saved from the Isle.

T. Deez. Harry. Gil. Uma. Dizzy-

All of them.

Fucking Maleficent.

Evie freaking out cause she realizes she's now the head bitch in charge is just life. Like me too. Me too.

And JFC if E isn't a Slytherin.

Cunning.

Sly.

Quick.

Ambitious. Hopefully not too ambitious in this case… That was a fuck ton of spells. Powerful spells.

Fuck.

Worried?

Good. You really should be.

We're going with magic costs energy. And she is fucking spent.

I know we switched it up making Malificient Green and Mal purple, but to us it just made sense that she would be the acrid green one. Side note, they totes look more like the dragons from the OG sleeping beauty in our heads.

Fuck if this whole chapter wasn't intense.

What do you guys actually think of Evie's spells. Of her being to cast?

Of Mal using the wand?

Of Mal saving the king? Anyone worried she punctured him her giant ass talons?

These poor fucking kids man.

This is a lot to deal with.

Can you blame them for running?

No seriously, how do you feel about them seeing the 'scene of the crime'?

What do you think is going to happen next, because at this point, I don't remember…

Fave line:

"Did you know Mal could turn into a dragon?" -C

"Ha!" She snorts inelegantly. "Did Mal?"- E

What was yours?

Much love and appreciation
