CHAPTER 1: THE NEW WORLD
╚═══━━━─── • ───━━━═══╝
"Lady...?"
"Lady..."
"Lady, you need to wake up."
Immediately, she woke up, eyes blinking as she was behold of what she encountered and trying to get used to the amount of light until she could see clearly. She was somewhere urban, with buildings and houses around her. It might have been awfully similar to Kansai back to her world, except that they are not as technologically advanced a little bit.
She kept on looking around herself and realized she was lying down on the cold pavement and that an old lady was waiting for her to stand up.
"Are you alright, young lady?"
She only chuckled nervously at the old lady as she stood up like a drunkard, which did not help her case. The old lady instinctively held her as she tried to keep her balance.
"It seems that you need help, what's your name by the way, young lady?"
"Uh, Swi- I mean Sagi, Onako Sagi." She was about to utter her alias due to a forceful habit but luckily she managed to cut off her thoughts in the meantime and that the old lady wasn;t suspicious about it at all.
"Onako-san, if you please I will have to call for help." The old lady was already holding her phone.
She was alarmed, courtesy of being new to this world and not wanting to get caught, especially her time as an Akudama, she was triple wary right now for some reason.
"N-no, it's totally ok I'm fine! No need to call for an ambulance!" She exclaimed.
Immediately, the old lady looked dazed for a moment and then recovered as if nothing happened.
"Haha, of course, you are totally fine just the way you are, young lady." The old lady said jubilantly, before she put her phone back in her bag and walked away without ever a second thought as if she forgot that she was there.
"W-what just happened." Sagi wondered as she patted her skirt. She has decided that her name would be Sagi from now on because that's the first thing she thought and it doesn't feel like a made up name. Although she was in a different world, she felt that identifying herself as a Swindler once more might bring up more misunderstanding.
Wait. She's wearing different clothes and it's definitely not hers. Sagi knew that this was not the best time to act surprised. For now she must search for a safe place to live in this new world.
Sagi was excited to live again once more, but this time as an ordinary civilian in this not-so-ordinary world. She took her first step outside the alley where she found herself unconscious and not even a moment her mouth was now open wide.
She did expect people to walk along the sidewalk thru and fro with occasional cars passing the street. What she didn't expect is that most of the people here are drastically… unique. Sagi could tell whether they had surgery or not, similar to how she witnessed people back there radically change their face aesthetically through various surgeries. People with unique appearance here all look too natural and are not aimed for fashion.
It is as if that's how they looked already.
"Amazing..." that's what Sagi whispered to herself upon seeing most of them. She remembered that the Entity mentioned her about quirks and she never thought that quirks can also affect the way they look.
No doubt that discrimination might also be a constant issue here but that's for another story. Sagi then proceeds to walk along the sidewalk, joining multitudes of people. Her head swirling around, trying to greedily look around her surroundings with marvel.
Sagi ended up in front of a particular building. She kept looking up and down, scrutinizing the details of this restaurant. She found this building after deciding to enter an unfamiliar path that was branched away from the main road.
The road was rather lonely, and on either side were the backside of bland, gray tall buildings. It was rather dark here even if it was clearly morning due to those buildings that overshadowed this path, making it a little scarier to venture in this street. She spotted this building after smelling that sweet aroma.
Sagi admitted that she was hungry and her stomach was rumbling so she had no choice but to follow that scent, which she ended up in front of this particular building. Her stomach rumbled once more, much to her dismay.
Upon ensuring herself that this was a small food store, she checked her available pockets, digging each into until she reached upon her back pocket.
She has a wallet, yay! A small one. It was shaped in a circle with a face… which reminded her of those floating drones owned by Hacker…
…
…
…
Welp, there's no use reminiscing the past right now for she was very hungry. She opened the wallet and found a ten thousand bill. Sagi looked up the building and then to her money with hesitation, it could be possible this is the only money she has on her. Sagi at least thought of an idea and went in immediately.
The door creaked and in came Sagi. The mouth-watering aroma persisted in her nose and now she was literally drooling. She was quite relieved that she entered a house that serves meals with multiple tables and chairs aligned. She wondered why the house was empty all the time as she expected it to have an occasional customer right now.
"Welcome, welcome!" A woman of middle age came out of the door and greeted her. Sagi immediately approached the woman and thought of a simple ramen, which was the first thing she thought of.
It was particularly Hoodlum's favorite food and she quite remembered that time when the magical container didn't produce his favored meal, much to his dismay. Well, it's a long time since she has tasted that food so why not give it a shot?
"Can I have ramen? Please?" Sagi asked as she pointed to the poster by the wall that was designed with an assorted menu of food items.
The woman immediately nodded in enthusiasm. "Of course, please have a seat for a moment...I'll be right back." She sang before she went back to the kitchen.
Sagi hoped that the woman wouldn't take too much time. She eventually chose the table nearest to the door leading to the kitchen and sat on one of the chairs. She tapped the table for a moment, trying to liven up the atmosphere by herself.
"It's here!" The woman happily exclaimed as she opened the door with the prepared ramen on her left hand as she beelined to Sagi's area. She then expertly placed the ramen including its assortment in front of hungry Sagi.
"Enjoy your meal!" She said as she bowed down before Sagi and went back to the kitchen.
"Thank you for the meal." She prayed with the chopsticks between her index and thumb.
Sagi has no problem diving into her first meal in this new world.
**SLURP** **SLURP**
It was delicious indeed and Sagi has no qualms as she eats her way in.
**SLURP** **SLURP**
At last, Sagi had her fill and waited for the woman. Who just in time, arrived at her side for some payment. This is the moment Sagi immediately stooped down the ground and kneel while her forehead was firmly planted on the ground.
"Thank you for the mea!" Sagi exclaimed, much to the woman's shock and confusion. Her typical customers don't even act exaggerated as her first customer in the afternoon so imagine her surprise.
"E-eh? I'm just here to collect your payment, customer-huh?!" The woman, who was already in a state of confusion, was further flabbergasted.
Sagi immediately revealed the ten-thousand bill in front of the woman while remaining steadfast on the ground. "Can you please let me sleep here temporarily?! I promise to work hard!" Sagi pleaded and definitely the money wasn't for bribery purposes but she intended it to give it to the woman.
The woman was terribly scared by now, and no matter how tantalizing Sagi's bill is, she just can't let her live here from now on. "I'm so sorry but I can't allow it." She decided.
"P-please, madam, please?" Sagi further pleaded. Call her crazy but she can't take another chance venturing outside without any further information.
The woman once again tried to deny her plea when the door creaked again once more.
"What's the commotion here, huh?" A deep, threatening voice surprised Sagi that she immediately stood up and looked toward the owner of the voice.
It was a buff-looking individual with bulging muscles with two more individuals trailing behind him, maybe his measly bodyguards. For Sagi, they looked like a typical thugs, with those stupid looking tattoos on their arms and considering hairless, but not as awesome as Brawler though. They looked intimidating and the way the woman looked horrified upon looking at them, Sagi concluded that they might not be a typical customer of hers.
Oh, such bad luck, as she remembered, she never picked up any five hundred coins somewhere… or is this one where the Entity was trying to screw with her just to be entertained? Perhaps. She has no room to think of any silly ideas.
"Woman, you know what's today, right?" The assumed leader spoke, and immediately produced a bat, just to make himself more threatening.
"N-no, I don't have any here right now!" The woman gasped in fear. "I promise, I will pay you tomorrow, not just now!"
"Too bad, but the deadlines today!" He sneered as his whole body was suddenly adorned with spikes. A Quirk. Sagi kept on reminding herself that she was in a world where 'Quirks' were prevalent.
The leader of these thugs then tried to approach the woman, knocking down the tables and chairs that were an obstacle. The woman was clearly afraid.
Being experienced with the near-swipes of Death. Sagi has no qualms facing the leader with no fear, while the woman was behind her. Sagi couldn't just let the woman be harmed by these nameless thugs… no, she can't, under any circumstances, ignore the obvious harassment that was currently happening in front of her. The leader of the thugs was seemingly hesitant for a moment.
"Don't you dare intrude our business, Missy." The gruffy voice of the leader almost scared Sagi, almost, but she relentlessly stood her ground. "Now get out of our face!" The leader didn't expect that one of the woman's customers wasn't afraid to face him. He expected her to immediately walk out of the establishment once they were here, so he was in for a surprise.
"I can't just let you do what you want… you clearly intend to harm her!" Sagi exclaimed, with her arms outreached to either side. It might have been a moment when she had killed individuals back at the Kansai but she would readily do the deed again just to protect the woman.
The leader then just sneered wickedly. "Very well then… don't you dare regret this!" The leader warned before his spiked fist toward Sagi.
Sagi was well prepared for this situation, as her short-lived occupation of being an Akudama as one of the proof, she intended not to give them a chance either.
Even though the leader looked threatening and scary at the moment, with those spikes adorning his skin, Sagi was sure that she could find a way to defeat him. It doesn't matter if she was hurt or not, as long as she can protect the woman.
The woman who provided her with her first meal in this world.
...and all hell breaks loose.
